Blue Jays have the Yankees ON THE ROPES! Is it over!?
You watch what the Blue Jays did in dismantling the Yankees. You watch Max Freed, their best pitcher, who’s healthy right now. Although people argue with Schlitler, people say, “Well, Rodon, how about him?” No, Max Freed has been their best. And the Blue Jays offense at their best, they just got the better in a short series. When an offense scores this number of runs, think about what the Blue Jays did. Forget the fact they actually scored 20 runs in a row over the two games, which is staggering. Just think about the number of runs they scored in two games. When playoff games like the Mariners and Tigers were 32 both games, you’re used to two ones, 31s, the Blue Jays offense just obliterated the Yankees pitching. Moral victory is something that uh this weekend was a step back in my personal situation with my daughter and it was uh there are little moral victories that I am supposed to be taking for little things that have happened and I have been thinking about it all weekend and I didn’t know again thank you for your flexibility as a matter Matter of fact, this week, Tuesday and Thursday at I think we’re going to do 9:00 a.m. shows. We can’t do 7 a.m. shows is I will be doing overnight shifts to try to be as helpful as I can to my family. And I just cannot start at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Uh and I don’t know how long that will be. We don’t know anything as you know. But the moral victory is something that I want to believe in. I want to believe when there’s one positive thing that you can latch on to that and I’ve been learning a lot about latching on and all the other things. But it my problem with it is that if the destination is going to be what the destination’s going to be, where do you stand with the moments of positivity? It’s a defense mechanism by some people where you have to latch on to it and be positive and think to yourself, “No, no, this could be 2017. The Yankees can win three in a row. It was the Guardians.” And then when you move moral victories out of the sports world, into the real world, out of the world of on the- field games, into the world of of your life, the question is, does that change how you think about what a moral victory is? So, I was pondering this during the course of the weekend and more so last night as I was not watching the amount of sports that I would normally watch over a weekend and I was pondering to myself, is there a way that I can change? Because it occurs to me that the moral victory people are way happier than I am. It occurs to me that the moral victory people are able to take a moment and expand on the moment in a way that I’m not able to do because for me it is so hard not to focus on the reality of a situation. I would much rather be like somebody else. I’d much rather be the person who analyzes the Yankees series and says, “Oh, we’re good. We’re fine.” I have not been able to get there. The other thing that happened this weekend is that uh I got the flu and COVID vaccine which I was asked to get in order to not be sick and to do the things that I need to do to be helpful where I need to be helpful. What the people who told me to do it don’t realize is whenever I get the COVID vaccine and the flu vaccine or just the flu vaccine by itself, I get sick as a dog. And this weekend I got the flu for sure and I was positive that I had it. But it turns out uh at about 4:30 this morning, which was hour 36 post vaccine, I was fine, which means I didn’t have the flu even though I was sure I had the flu. So all in all, Kok, it was a crappy weekend. And uh so I am going to try to get you through the things that I noticed this weekend in sports. Kok is going to fill in on some things that he noticed in sports. There are some stories because, you know, you don’t come to us for recaps anyway. We’re not going to recap the games. Go figure out another way to recap a game. But there were some things that happened that fascinated me. So, were you aware with the Blue Jays and Yankees that Max Scherzer and Chris Basset are not even on the wild card roster? And when they were not put on the roster, I assume you were thinking to yourself, well, that’s strange. Who are the top three starters? Who is going to pitch for the Blue Jays? And you may have said, “Oh, is it Berios?” And then you would realize, “Well, no, what about Bieber?” Well, I guess so, but Bieber’s not a number one starter. So, they go with Gowsman as the number one starter. And the reality is that the number two starter was no one anyone had seen or heard of. So I will tell you because I’m not going to lie to you ever. I didn’t know who Trey Yavage was the starter for the Blue Jays. I had never seen him pitch. My assumption was there was when Sherzer and Basset were left off the wild card roster, the assumption would never be, wow, those people know more than I do because that would go against my ego, which of course is the way to look at it. But none of us look at our executives or the teams we like ever saying that. We always look at the executives and say they don’t know anything about anything. So Trey is Savage gets the ball and I’m watching and then I’m thinking, hm, he’s got some nasty stuff here. Is he a retread? Like what do we got here? So I did some work on him and it’s true. I’m not going to be the guy who tells you, “Oh, I saw him in college and high school and I knew what he’d be. Never heard of him, 22 years old.” And I’m looking at I’m saying, um, this looks a lot like early of the Red Sox. This looks a lot like Schlitler, though the stuff is different. But another rookie who comes up where the baseball people look at him and say giving him the ball makes the most sense cuz his stuff is just better than what we’ve got. Not only is your Savage’s stuff better, and we talked with Blair and Barker on the show in Canada. I haven’t done that show in several weeks, which I’m sorry for. I want to get back and do it again. and I don’t know when I will, but that the Blue Jays do not have an ace. They didn’t have a clear 1-1. You know, Freed, I would argue for the Yankees is Scooble for the Tigers definitely is. You could argue Castillo for the Mariners, but there’s arguments in almost every case other than when you’ve got an ace, and that’s of course what Scooble is, and we’ll talk about the irony of Scooble and what happened in the Tigers and Mariners game. But when you Savage comes in and he goes five and a third, no hit and strikes out 11, the next thing that your baseball people and PR people tell you to do when you get it shoved the way they got it shoved is to make sure that everyone knows, hey, we had not seen this guy. We were flumxed and baffled, but we’ll study it and we’ll catch up and we’ll figure it out. And that’s a bunch of horse hockey. The way baseball works is that when you’ve got a pitcher you have never seen, you get video. You get to get into a batting cage and look at pitches coming directly from that pitcher. It doesn’t replace actually facing the guy. But the truth of the matter is that the Yankees offense got dominated by the Blue Jays pitching in the first six innings of the game. Now, why is that interesting? Because we’ve told you that pitching’s going to win. Pitching and defense will win championships. It’s not that the Yankees couldn’t score because once someone gets out of the game who you can’t touch, the hitters are always so happy to see anybody else. They’ll start hitting and the Yankees scored seven runs and you’re thinking, “What a great finish to the game. It sets them up perfectly for game three.” That is not the reality of the situation. The reality is that their best starter, Max Freed, gave up seven earned runs. Their mop-up guy, Warren, who you could say to yourself, mop-up guy, he was eligible to be a starter. He may have to start at some point this postseason. But when I say mop-up guy, what I mean is a guy who’s going to come in after a starter doesn’t pitch your long guy, if you will. A guy who will go 84 pitches because someone’s got to get innings in. The other thing about that game that’s going to be talked about, just so you’re aware of it when it comes up, is my main man, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., hit a grand slam. That was the most important hit of the game. It just put the game out of reach and he he did a bat flip from the batters box where he stood there and Koke and I did not put together and scratched together the Pablo-like funds in order to get highlight rights. But just take my word for it. Picture a guy who gets into the batters box, hits the ball like a missile to blow a game open knowing you’re about to take a two nothing commanding lead over your dreaded hated Yankees. Stand in the batters box, flip the bat, and then jog around. Now, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., that’s how he goes. He joged around. Outstanding. If I’m the New York Yankees and I see Vladimir Guerrero Jr. do that, I’m popping the next guy. Hard stop.

David, just remember that God is good all the time, even when our lives are not going well. Look for God’s blessings in your situation every day and you will find it. I pray that you and your family receives all of God’s blessings for you all from this season of life. I can see how God is growing you through this difficult challenge already and I am sure others see it too. God bless you and your family receives!
The stars have really aligned for the Jays at this point. Nobody expected to get production from the B players which has made the difference. That batting coach they picked up from the Twins seemed to have an impact. Rocking with who is hot is the working strategy.
Yanks are so desperate they need to break out the torpedo bats and swing for the stars.
I think that you need to take a bit of a step back and realize how much your perspective and self-identity, from identifying with your work most to identifying with being a father most, have changed so quickly. You were forced to reprioritize everything in your life, and I think that you are doing the right things.
Can I try to reframe what you're feeling, on an existential level? You struggle to give yourself credit, in general. The "moral victory people" are just people who, instead of immediately thinking what the next move is during a business negotiation or electing a commissioner or whatnot, can take a moment and enjoy victory. Whether that victory is someone telling you they really like your beard (it looks fuckin' fantastic) or Jerry Reinsdorf looking at you with disdain because you just owned him or a doctor telling you that today isn't worse than yesterday.
I think you just need to give yourself some more grace and accept that sometimes consequentialism doesn't apply.
EDIT: Getting to good and fine starts with giving yourself credit for doing everything you can, and not blame yourself for what you can't do.
Sending love from Canada my friend.
Go Jays!! 🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦
Nobody cares about ur personal life. We came here to listen to u cry about Yankees
* NEVER HEARD OF HIM *
Well now you do 😂😂
the introspection on moral victories was the real deal, thanks for sharing that.
The Jays are just a different calibre of team than the Yankees are. They PLAY BASEBALL.
The Yankees don't play good baseball. They have a sloppy, entirely home run centric offense that punishes underperforming teams with high run differential blowouts. That's why the Jays and the Yanks have the same regular season record with such a different run differential.
Where’s Vlad supposed to run to when the bases are loaded.
Calls his show nothing personal, talks about personal issues anyway. Trash 👎
Stop being such a crybaby! That was hardly a bat flip. What did you want him to do after hitting a grand slam, bend over all prim and proper and place the bat down like a gentleman?
Judge who rarely ever chases in the regular season, in his only at bat that mattered, struck an out on a pitch a foot out of the zone that would’ve been ball 4. To the surprise of no one with any experience watching him in the postseason. That at bat right there was when the season ended
"Moral victories" do work in normal life in areas where results aren't zero sum (in other words things outside of sports, war, elections where if you don't win, you lose lol).
So sorry to hear about your daughter ❤
Are The Blue Jays Going To Beat The Yankees???🤔
Yes!!! Yes!!! And Yes!!!
The Jays are not the red Sox, Yankees beat up on bad teams but cannot do it vs the elite teams , Yankees are a good team but they only rely on the long ball , blue Jay's just put the ball in play , not saying it's over but taking 3 straight ain't looking good right now , Yankees got exposed
David – I'm probably about half your age but hopefully you know that you are NOT alone in these things. I'm also someone that is too caught up in "reality" to be able to enjoy the moral victories and small wins. And I share the same feeling of jealousy wishing I could be more like "other people" because it does seem like a happier way to live. Thinking of you and your family – one day at a time is all we can do.
Nobody had heard of Trey Yesavage yesterday, and today he is a national hero!
These players with the bat flip ,staring at homeruns ,dancing while running to home plate is ridiculous and disrespectful, nobody does nothing about it ,if this was the days of roger clemons , randy johnson , nolan ryan , pedro martinez ,curt schilling , doc gooden believe me duds would get plunked , theres no room for that ,bunch of unprofessional imature young players ,what vladdy did was not necessary, i hate the yankees but come on now ,dont poke the bearthats alli am saying ,you k ow if chazzhits one he's gonna do it worst
As if you had an issue with that bat flip. That was nothing.
Why do the Yankees have to hit the next batter after Vlad bat flipped? How about you pitch better and get the batters out? Beaning a player because you’re mad that the other team bat flipped is so weak.
Stop the pitching will win championships mantra.
The Jays won the world series twice with hitting more than with pitching.
What the fuck are you talking about
Moral victory: keep getting jabbed, and you will have no worries at all. #DiedSuddenly SMH.
Poppin' the next guy hard stop? You're a dinosaur. You are 1000% right if this is 1996. It's 2025 and the stare and the bat flip is here to stay. I'm not a fan of it either, believe me, but that's the way she goes now David.
Covid vax 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
I'll tell you how. 🇨🇦
The Toronto Blue Jays are good at baseball, and the Yankees hit home runs sometimes.
baseball is random….the best teams in the league won 20% more games than the very worst.
Ah, the yankees losing to a good baseball team. Where have i seen this before? Oh, right. The first good ball club they saw last year in the postseason happened to be the dodgers. Do yankees fans realize that their team only looks like a world series world stomping team when they play against the weak AL central? Let's take a step back and realize just how many free wins the yankees get off of the central teams. The twins are a literal meme. The royals lay over. The whitesox lay over. If it weren't for the central division, this 300m yankees team would be regularly missing the playoffs, and that's a fact. They played terribly against their own division and don't look like worldbeaters against the western division. They make all their wins when they take trips to the central teams.
Why is it only bat-flips that people whine about? How come no one ever calls out the pitcher when he starts yelling & screaming, going into convulsions, or dancing back to the dugout after a big strikeout? I don't get it 🤷🏻♂️
