Needing Kirk and being able to afford Kirk are two different things! If a team is in the position where a QB is all they need, they're probably not trading away $40 million worth of contracts to get one. Face it, we are stuck with him.

  1. At this point, we are keeping him.

Also, at this point with the right draft pick attached we would eat the money. So the cap space kinda moot point.

  2. We’re getting rid of him at the end of the season.

It’s almost certain he stays until the end of the 2025 season and is not extended as per his contract terms at the end of the season.

I accepted this reality. It’s fine. We have a good backup in the event MPJ goes down.

  3. Again, for the kids in the back:
    1) A team that trades for him is negotiating how much of Kirk’s contract is picked up. They don’t need to be able to afford the whole contract.
    2) We might not trade him.

  4. We’d be eating the contract though not them. So lile moot point but I dont think hes going anywhere this season anyways.

  5. The only possibility I see is the cardinals who have some free cap space plus they would need to send us a cap dump don’t know who is under performing on a mid-big size contract over there but I’m sure they have someone
edit: extremely unlikely but like budda baker for Kirk and a second is the most likely thing I see and that is comfortably at around 2% chance to happen

  6. The team trading for him doesn’t have to pay him so this thread is pointless.

  7. It’s too early to know if a team is playoff bound. You don’t want to trade for Kirk if you aren’t making the playoffs.

  8. I’m fine either way. We are already paying him the money so either he gets traded for a better pick, or we have solid depth in our QB room.

Factoring in our total QB room cost we aren’t completely out of pocket vs other teams cost wise.

  9. I’m totally fine with keeping him because as we’ve seen in today’s nfl you need at the very least a competent backup because injuries happen

  10. You can manipulate the cap if you really want to. Looking at the face value of the cap says nothing.

But Kirk is not good or young enough for anyone to justify doing it

  11. Im still gladly on the keep Kirk train. No sense in trading him away (obviously unless there was some crazy trade proposal) but to trade him for a bag of chips and have no backup this year would be super risky. If Penix goes down for a game or even a number of games, we should still be very competitive with Kirk. Emory jones is on IR (and nobody would feel confident about that anyways) so we do what exactly? Elevate someone from the practice squad to take over our team?

  12. Alright i know its way too much money for a backup qb. But at this point even if we get rid of him, we’re still gonna be paying a lot of his contract if not all of it. So if we’re paying him anyway id rather have him as a backup than easton fucking stick if (god forbid) something happens to penix

  13. We 100% take on the bulk of his contract if traded. It’s essentially a free year for the other team, unless contract relief is part of negotiations. When the other team pays more on the contract, the compensation goes down.

2nd or bust if I’m the GM

  14. I never thought we’d get out of this year’s cap hit. But a trade sames us like $10m next year and would probably come with a 3rd or 4th in exchange for a free Kirk for this year.

  15. wow it’s almost like this was immediately obvious back in April and Elite Posters have been needing to tolerate a mass psychosis that a trade was going to happen.

  16. Pats spanking Buffalo with 54 mil in cap space bodes very poorly for all non Bostonians

  17. Yeah I feel the same way I always think to myself why in the world would anybody take on Kirk cousins when he has such a large contract even if we cut it in half and pay half of his contract I don’t think anybody wants to deal with it I figure that Kirk cousins probably going to stick around just for this season and then we’re going to cut him and just eat the dead cap sucks too because we could have really used that money since Michael is on a rookie contract this is why I’m scared that we’re not going to be able to keep Drake London or bijon Robinson when their contracts are up.

  18. We can say some of these things. But there are teams like the Ravens tossing away their season by not having a QB

  19. I mean the awful falcons deem him not good enough to play.. and they’re the ones paying him
