New Phoenix Suns offense. #thetimeline #nba #basketball
All right, here’s a great example of what Jordan’s trying to do with the Phoenix Suns this year. This is a dribble handoff. These players are going to come around screens here. Royce O’Neal’s here in the corner. Colin Gillespie’s here. These are two shooters. As the dribble handoff comes around, Royce O’Neal is going to cut across the basket. A lot of what we’re going to talk about this season is the fact that even a player without the ball has to be guarded as they go towards the basket. Meaning, Lorravia has to cut down. This dribble handoff is going to be here. There is currently a player occupying the corner, but as the handoff happens, the help has to come off of Colin Gillespiey’s man. So all at the same time, the handoff’s going to happen. The onball action, the two offball actions are going to be Royce O’Neal exits the corner. Colin Gillespie sinks into the corner because you have to be guarded as you come across the basket and the help for the handoff is going to come off of Colin Gillespiey’s man, meaning the corner is going to be empty. Now, a lot of times pick and rolls just have stagnant corners. Handoffs have stagnant corners, but the Jordan offense that we’ve seen in Cleveland requires the players to exit the corner and enter the corner. So, we’ll see that here. Cut. Sink. Pass.
