  1. i feel like that lightest team is kind of why we did so poorly under Rick Tocchet’s dump and chase systems. He keeps pointing to the Panthers and their success on the forecheck not noting also that they have some massive bodies who are all willing to drop gloves, each and every one of them. How the heck are we supposed to forecheck effectively when everyone’s a feather who can be pushed around?

  2. Sounds like skating was a much bigger focus than previous years. Fellas must have put in the work and burnt a few calories.

  3. Normally making the NHL as an 18 year old is a great sign for a player becoming a regular, and potentially one of the best in their class.

We as a fanbase should be thrilled

  4. Fifth youngest is actually an underrated part of this roster. Especially as basically all of our older veterans are signed short term. There are no big contracts given to old aging players whose play will fall off a cliff to worry about (other than that damned OEL buyout).

If this roster can gel there is sustainability built into the group.

  5. lol the canucks looked at all the successful teams that have been winning in the playoffs and decide to build a team the opposite of them. Lightest in the league. Perfect!

  6. Foote changing the system to a more aggressive defensive swarm coverage makes a lot of sense now. I don’t really look at the average of weight for the team, but it’s clear a “dump and chase” doesn’t work with this group since it won’t punish the opposition in the boards.

Going back to a skill, speed game is brilliant. I think management realized this and started to acquire guys like O’Connor and extend guys like Garland.

It’s also a reason why Boeser wasn’t immediately signed because he is quite slow. I suspect they wanted to get faster. That’s the same reason Canucks were tied to Rossi trade talks. He’s one of the smallest guys in the league, but in the top 20th percentile in terms of speed and can put up points.

Hoping Foote can really take advantage of speed and the defensive swarm works this year.

  7. This is interesting cause statistically the team with the most Canadians win the cup.

Def confirmation bias but im in

  8. Had to look this up as I wanted to understand the details. Most people kept talking about the first 9 games and in case anyone is interested and didn’t know the details like me:

If a player is 19 years or younger and is from junior hockey, his contract is a contract slide. Contract slides if Cootes plays fewer than 10 NHL games and it doesn’t burn the first year of the ELC. If he comes back at the end of the year, it will burn the first year of the ELC.

But one thing I didn’t realize, it doesn’t burn if we make the playoffs and he plays in the playoffs; it doesn’t count towards the 10 games

  9. Being the lightest gives me concern, and where we’re going to miss Joshua.

This team is going to get pushed around, Kane and Myers can’t be the only ones pushing back.
