Coming Home | Evander Kane
That’s obvious. I’m not going to give you any Yeah. He’s trying to get all this camera TV time, eh? NHL in the future right there. [Applause] Well, Vander, you settle into Vancouver officially and get ready for this season. How does it feel to just be getting ready for it? Yeah. Um, it’s exciting. Obviously big move coming from Edmonton uh bringing the whole family back uh into Vancouver and um you know I’m looking forward to getting on the ice officially with the guys and the coaches and and uh getting ready for this hockey season. Now when it comes to your off season, take me through what your workout routine was like. Uh well I’ve had backto-back short summers. Our workout routine was uh a lot of on ice stuff working with my dad um on the ice and and obviously training really hard off the ice back in Edmonton. It is a tough balance, especially when you go deep in the playoffs, back-to-back season, and and obviously a little uniqueness with coming off an injury during the course of the entire regular season. So, uh, for me, I thought the balance was there. Um, and I feel real good coming into this year. Are you as competitive on the golf course as you are on the ice? Oh, boy. Some some might argue more competitive on the golf course, but uh, no. Yeah, I’d probably say it’s pretty even. All right. So, where you headed next? Off to the golf course. Off to the course. Awesome. Let’s go. [Applause] Oh, delete that immediately. Immediately. That won’t make that it. You know, I’m excited to uh to be here um to be playing for the Canucks. And um you know, I think my kids are are looking forward to seeing dad play. They they didn’t get to see me much last year. So, um, being in Vancouver, I think it’ll be fun. Yeah. What are we playing? Uh, pot latch style with 50/50. So, not not pot latch style. No, that’s dead straight. That’s really good, though. I can hit like that all the time. Everybody hit really good shots there. Wow. Have the kids found any favorite spots to do? Um, grandma’s house. It’s probably their favorite. And then uh took him to Water Mania where I used to kind of go swimming after a hockey session last week. The wave pool. Yeah. And they kind of got a little little jungle gym in the pool. So, uh they love doing that type of stuff, which is fun. [Music] I’ll take that. Under pressure. Cameras are watching. Hey, Rooster. Get in. Oh no. Birdie, birdie, birdie, birdie. Start. This guy’s soaking in the camera right now. Holy cow. We’ve had really short summers the last little bit and you have four kids. It’s sometimes a little more difficult to get out as much as you’d like to. But I think, you know, the way I grew up in Vancouver is a lot different than how my kids are growing up. So, in a way, I’m seeing and experiencing things and they’re experiencing things that I never did as a kid, right? um whether it’s coming here and making putts over at the practice facility or or hitting balls of the range or horseback riding, you know, those are uh those are things that they’re very lucky to be able to do. So, um it’s kind of nice for me to experience that with them. Two decent shots here. We’re about to be 600 through six. My dad come closer. Dad, I’m coming to you tomorrow morning. They want to see us work together. It’s a, you know, very unique working relationship we have. The hell are you doing? Pass it back. All right. So, I’ll see you tomorrow morning. Uh, 6:15. I’ll be there. Okay. Bye. Bye. Come on, Nathan. Work on that stride. I’ve been working with my dad for the last number of years and you know the strictness of the discipline on the ice off the ice and just the work ethic that we kind of instilled in me. Nothing’s changed and you see continuing to instill that in his other students that he has two feet. This is how we find the guys are in shape. They got to skate for 10 minutes. Two hands on that stick when you’re going around the cones. Go hard. Move your feet. What is that? Move your feet. Carbon and turn. Move your feet. You know, his slogan was always embrace the pain. So, um, and push through that pain. Enjoy the pain. So, just that me toughness, I think, is really helps in in in all facets, but go. Let’s go. Don’t worry about it. Falling down is half the battle. That’s how you learn. They really take to my dad. I think he’s he’s built an incredible relationship with with all students. I probably play a bit of a a role in in that in terms of him gaining some true recognition of of his his skills as a coach. And you know, it’s great to see uh other students uh benefiting from that. You know, I’m sure it’s uh it’s neat for for the kids to kind of see what that top level looks like. Um, you know, and they I’m sure they’re watching and learning, you know, they do ask questions and and for help and, uh, you know, when I’m on the ice, uh, we’re working on different things. Even the battles of the point, I just try to give them little attempts to to help protect the pup better. I mean, they’re great students. Come on. We’re going to get a picture. Hurry up. An NHL and a future NHL right there. Squeeze in there. That’s how you get it.
