🚨Celtics Starting 5 REVEALED? Boston Celtics Training Camp News

[Music] We are so so close, Celtics fans, to real C’s hoops being back out there on the court. But, you know, in two days, we at least get a little bit of an appetizer with the preseason. On today’s show, we’re going to talk about the Celtics starting lineup for that game and potentially the opener against the New York Knicks in a couple of weeks being revealed here just two days before the preseason gets underway. Before we get into that and more, first make it known if you are fired up for the Selers to get back out there on the court with a new look roster this season. I know a lot of uncertainty, people calling it a gap year. I’m still fired up for the boys in green to get back out there. If you are too, go down below, smash the thumbs up icon, and let’s try to beat the most likes we’ve gotten in the last month with 260. See if it’s 300 dieh hard Celtics fans. Go get fired up for this new look roster. All righty, the NBA preeason is on the horizon, just two days away. A lot of teams have already gotten into their preseason here, but the Celtics getting a little bit of a late start. Traveling to the Memphis for a matchup with the Grizzlies here. Now, Joe Missoula is going to trot out basically the entire Celtics roster here, including the two-ways, the exhibit 10. They’re going to get some run as well. Um, so we’re going to see everybody out there. And I’m not necessarily sure if the starting five that we see in this game is going to be the one that we end up seeing uh in in a couple weeks against the New York Knicks, but we are going to get a good idea of what this Celtics rotation will look like, at least for the start of this season. Now, as far as guaranteed starters in the Boston Celtics lineup for this year, two are guaranteed and and that is all we know as of right now. Jaylen Brown will be taking the mantle of the number one option offensively and defensively this season as well. Derek White will be starting alongside of him. And after that, we really don’t have much of an idea as to what the starting five will look like, but we have some inklings. We’re going to do some detective work on what it will be in just a moment. Let’s hear from Jaylen Brown, though, as he is kind of stepping into this new role and what it’s going to look like with a new look Celtics team. He said, “I’ve never not been in the playoffs. I have more playoff wins than 15 or 16 teams. I know what it takes. I know this group has it. I know what we can accomplish. We’ve been spoiled to some degree to have a bunch of talented players come through. This year is a little bit different when we lack when we lack an experience with size. We got to make up with speed and mentality. And that’s kind of been what the Selies have been rocking with here over the past few weeks of training camp, right? They want to be one of the fastest teams in all of basketball, if not the highest paced team in the sport. So that that that is something that is new compared to what you looked at last year when you had you know older veterans on the team like Drew Holiday we know can get out and run but Al Horford, Chris Esporing like guys who aren’t necessarily supposed to be sprinting up and down the floor all all day long. No, that’s that a different little bit of a look that the Celtics have on their roster this year with guys like Josh might not and couple more athletic younger centers in the mix. But Brown is talking about training camp and it has been insane. I don’t know if you guys saw the photo of Peyton Pritchard with the gash on his neck. I mean, they’re they’re going to to playing prison rules out there in the Arabback Center. Brown said, “Man, it’s intense. I think it’s probably been my hardest preseason that I’ve had.” And he said that it’s good that that’s necessary for this Celtics team here. I’m really really uh excited and intrigued by the leadership qualities that Jaylen Brown is going to get to exude here without Jason Tatum in the lineup. Now, as far as where the Celtics go at the opposite guard, opposite Derek White here, um we have a little bit of a battle, per se. Um is it a battle? I don’t know. But Peyton Pritchard or and Anthony Simons are going to be your two names that are up for grabs here at that starting guard spot opposite D White. Now, we’ve heard from both guys at media day and in the early days of training camp that neither one of them necessarily care who is going to be in the starting lineup. Simons has been stressing that he just wants to do whatever it takes to be a winning player, you know, contribute to a winning culture here. And Pritchard has kind of shared some similar sentiments here. He just knows that whatever his role is from Joe Mazula, he’s going to take it in stride. That is what a true leader does. A true leader isn’t somebody who is, you know, in the starting lineup, vaulted on the on the on the programs and all that stuff for the fans when they walk in the arena. No, it’s someone who puts their head down, does the work, and just straight up grinds and and does whatever job he’s being asked to do out there on the court. And that’s what Pton Pritch is going to do. And I think that’s going to bode well for him when it comes time for Joe Mazula to reveal this starting lineup. Now, as far as we have the kind of the guards situated a little bit, Jaylen Brown there at the three. We’ll talk about the center spot in a moment, but what about that four spot? Because it’s a very interesting position for the Boston Celtics this year without Jason Tatum out there on the floor. Obviously, he was going to slide right in to the starting power forward spot, but without him, you have some like decisions to make based on matchups. Now, I I don’t know if either one of these two players, Sam Hower or Chris Buchet, is going to start, you know, the vast majority of games this season. I think based on matchups, based on the type of looks that the Boston want to throw out there, you could start either one of these two guys. Buché being more of a bigger player, lengthier, um probably a better low post or, you know, down low defender than a guy like Sam Hower is, but Hower more of your 3 and D on the wing, corner threat. He’s going to run all around the perimeter uh on different floppy actions to try to get some open looks there. Um so they provide different things for you here. So Joe Mazula had this to say about Sam Hower. Uh, and it tells me that he’s got high hopes for him this upcoming season. He says that he’s a great player. I think he’s a really good two-way player. Even back in summer league when I coached him, he’s a much better defender than people think. Oh, I I know, Joe. To trust me, I saw him clamp up Kyrie Irving in the finals. He’s a guy that makes people around him better with or without the ball. And he has an innate skill to shoot, but I also think his skill is when you can make people around you better. Can you make the situation better on both ends? when he’s involved in plays offensively and defensively, the efficiency outcome is great. I think he’s a well-rounded, balanced player and he impacts winning at a high level. Sam Hower, and I just like thought of this now after reading that Missoula quote. Sam Hower ranks so highly when you look at the last couple of seasons when it comes to um you know, net rating and and and plus minus out there on the court. Like whenever that he’s out there on the floor for the Celtics, the offense just seems to be a whole heck of a lot better just because of how big of a threat he is as a three-point shooter. the guy’s nearly a 40 5% shooter from the outside over the past few seasons because not because but that and that just makes the rest of the Celtics offense so so much better. And I think from Joe Mazula’s perspective this season, the familiarity with Sam Hower and how long those two have kind of been in lock step here favors him over a guy like Chris Bucher who was just signed in free agency here. But I think we’ll be seeing a good bit of Bucher playing the four for Boston and maybe some small ball five as well. Now, as far as that center position goes at the five spot, unproven names to be honest with you here. Nimas Kada, who Celtics fans are more familiar with, but also Luca Garza, who they brought in. And you could argue the more polished offensive player between the two. Both provide differing skill sets here. And at the end of the day, it seems like Nimas Kada is just going to get this starting job. with the work that he’s put in, with being a part of this rotation over the last two seasons, it would just make the most sense to start the season with Nemia Kada there at the five. And Brian Rob of Mass Live had this insight to say about Encada and Garza. He says that the Celtics did sign Luca Garza to a two-year deal this offseason. And while league sources tell Mass Live that he is getting reps at center in practice, it does not sound like he’s in the starting mix. Kada has been considered the favorite to start at center by most entering this year, creating a different dynamic for Boston’s offense. We’re going to talk about that different dynamic and the fact that the Celtics do not really have a stretch big on their roster outside of Chris Buchet really here that can be relied upon and I don’t even know how much you can rely upon Chris Buchet as a volume stretch big. Look, Kada performed really well this off seasonason in Euro Basket playing for his home country of Portugal. And uh I I from what I saw in those highlights, he looks like he is ready to take the next step as an NBA player. So with that being said, your starting five looks like this. Payton Pritchard, Derek White, Jaylen Brown, Sam Hower, and Neias Kada is the five that I believe will start the season for your Boston. Not only in the preseason here, but also in a couple of weeks when they match up with the Knicks on their opener. So, Pritchard, White, Brown, Hower, Kada, all five players who were members of the Celtics Championship team back in 2024. I think the familiarity favors this bunch and it’ll be a group that Joe Missoula feels comfortable with starting games to at least to begin this season. Fill in the blank for me. You guys just saw my starting lineup projection here after doing a good bit of digging. I don’t think it’s more of a projection. I think it’s definitely a very educated guess here. The Sullies have the blank best starting five in the NBA this season. Let me know what you guys think down below in the comments section. How good is this starting five? How good can it be? Coming up next, why is this a starting five? What is Joe Mazula’s rationale to put this fiveman unit out there? Aside from the familiarity, we know that all three of these, all five of these guys have at least some level of chemistry dating back a couple of seasons now. But what are the other reasons for this starting five being the one that it is other than them just, you know, being returners on this roster? We’ll get to that in just a moment. First though, I got to tell you guys about these awesome Celtics hats that are on sale right now. Love this corduroy one with the Celtics script there. Alrighty here. Let’s talk why did Boston or why is Boston going to go with this starting five unit? Well, in Pritchard’s case, I I just think that the way that he has put his head down, I mean, this guy was in trade talks like legitimate. He was requesting a trade a couple of years ago because he didn’t think that his role was valued. He didn’t think that he was valued as a player in Joe Mazul’s rotation. He believed that he was an NBA rotation player, which we know now that he is coming off a six-man of the year campaign. So, I think he has put his head down. He has done everything has been asked of him. And to not give him the starting nod here after, you know, Drew Holiday gets up out of town and you have an open spot open in the back court, I I I just think would be you got to do right by your guys. I I just think that would not be doing right by Payton Pritchard if he uh if he does not get the starting nod over a guy in Anthony Simons who many people expect to be dealt by the trade deadline. Now, more from Joe Mazuli here about his rationale through this whole lineup. He says, “Listen, everything comes down to how could we take advantage of the roster and the strengths that we have.” Now, I think this team has a good bit of three-point shooting. That’s why I put Hower in that five. If you take a look at our team dynamics over the past two years, these were easy because there were five guys on the floor that could always shoot. This is the first year we don’t have a stretch five. So with that being said, yes, we don’t have a stretch five this upcoming season, but at the same time, you know, Joe Missoula is going to want to get up a high volume of threes. Not only do they want to play fast, but they probably want to play fast and get up a similar number of three-point attempts that they did over the past couple of seasons. Now, do they have the personnel with Tatum and Horford and Porzingis and Holiday to be able to or without those guys to be able to do that this year? Well, time will tell, but I’m sure they’re at least going to attempt to be a high volume three-point team to start to start the season. So, I’m throwing Hower and Pritchard in my starting five. More from Missoula here. He says, “I think your shot profile is always going to match the strengths of your roster. And so, we have different types of strengths. We’re a little bit younger. We’re a little bit faster. We’re a little bit more athletic.” So, at the end of the day, we’re going to take shots that that defense gives us, and we’re going to look to find different ways to create twoon- ones. That’s been the number one thing that these Missoula offenses have been really honed in on more than the high volume three-point shooting, more than anything, creating mismatches, creating two-on-ones, creating advantages for the offense because Joe Mazul looks at this like a like he’s directing some sort of battlefield uh in a war. Um, so he’s just always looking for advantages over the opponent. That’s going to continue to happen here and the Celtics are going to get easy looks. All I’ve heard this this training camp is the Celtics want to play fast. They want to be the fastest team in the league. Well, time’s ticking. We’re gonna see if that is going to be a mantra that they play with uh in just two days here as they match up with the Memphis Grizzlies. Make sure you give me a follow over on Twitter, Tyler J. Smith, two H’s because the name’s common, but I am not. As that will do it for today’s edition of Sully Today by Chad Sports. Looks like we have a starting five here. Could be Anthony Simons, but I’m going to go with Pton Pritchard. Let me know who your starting five is down in the comment section. 2. I'm a big fan of Peyton but he should not be starting over Anthony Simons. Simon not a defender but he makes up for it on the offensive end. He can shoot the ball at elite levels and he can really good passer. Peyton is definitely deserves to play a lot and he's been great for the team he's definitely a great six-man and get and he should be getting his 20-30 minutes a game. Simon says an All-Star level talent. The numbers don't lie even though he was on a trash team they never brought in any talent to build around him.
