Can mcdavid unsign his contract? Dont know how you can sign a team friendly deal just to watch them blow it all on a middle pairing D that doesnt improve the team in any sense. He left money on the table for the oilers to improve. Instead, they just reallocated the money

I don’t get it – when I originally saw it I I thought it was a seven year $7 million dollar deal
It’s funny leaving the Oilers sub (where people are pretty pleased about this deal) and seeing people ragging on it.
For a second-pair D-man who’s worked out well for us so far, this is a decent deal. Given Walman’s age, I *maybe* have some concerns about how it looks on the back end, but given cap increases over that time I’m not *overly* concerned about it.
Walman is a great fit for our team and works well here. $7M for a second pairing D-man with the cap exploding the way it is pretty average.
What an absolutely terrible deal…imagine all the money they saved on McDavid they just gave it to this guy…Jake Walman is severely overrated

This makes no sense to me. He had a decent year, and looked awful in the finals. How do you tie up this much money with a guy two teams punted on just last year.
Just reminds me of the Campbell signing. no multi season pattern of good play, who they tie up long term with a boat load of money.
What am I missing??! I wanted this guy gone, not given an anchor contract.

I like Walman at 7×7 Il think it’s an overpay, but I think it reflects where the market is headed and what’s even available. My guess is they will free up some cap space by signing Ekholm for much less, if at all. I’d like to see Ekholm for $4.5 x 4 or something, but I doubt his agent would. Shift him down to the 3rd line eventually. Still leaves us with a hole in the top pairing D.
Don’t you worry about St Louis just focus on winning a Cup to keep McJesus happy. Cause ya don’t he’s gone!
And with Walman not bad management obviously both teams seen something that wouldn’t keep him around. And if you think, he’s better than Broberg I don’t know what to say there.

Sanderson at $8M for 7 more years is looking more and more like a crazy steal
And McDavid took 2 years below market for this mess. Connor, tear up that contract before the ink dries!

The copium amongst Oilers fans is strong. No title winning team is going to play Walman on the second pair unless they have Hasek 2.0 in net.
7×7 is bad no matter what the cap for a puck moving defensemen that misses 1/4 of every season, doesn’t play defense, and is a locker room cancer.
At least he’s about to be old though.
Mcdavid signs for nothing and these smchuks still taking more than they are worth .
Not a bad signing given the rising cap. He played well last year, seems to be a decent enough dude these days, and has a chance to win with incentive to play well. Will it age poorly? Yeah, probably. Does it matter? No. Window is 3 years in EDM.
Walman is a stud. With where the cap is going and what Walman can bring to this team each and every day, it’s solid. He’s not a 3rd pairing D… He’s a top 4 D that can play top pairing minutes. Jake’s a beast and he’s going to be a big part of this team, which is why they signed him 7×7
He’s worth nowhere near that.
What is McDavid’s cap hit mid season and will Vegas or Florida get him at the deadline?
