FANTASTIC NEWS FOR THE CANUCKS, RED WINGS, OILERS & MORE: THE BEST OF THE PRE-SEASON REVEALED

Oh man, do I absolutely miss Smash Bros. 13, who would go out there throughout the course of the past few years and frequently post the NHL’s team of the week. No, the team of the week wasn’t a hockey Ultimate Team EA Sports thing, but the team of the week was the post of who would be doing well in the NHL. the previous seven days. He would do the team of the week in certain weeks and then he’d do the team of the months and then he’d do a bunch of other stuff. So, big shout out over to Smash Bros 13 for being one of the coolest Reddit accounts out there. But they went out there and finally gave us a new team of the something. This time it’s the best and worst team of the 2025 NHL preseason. And I wanted to use this as an opportunity to start talking about some of the teams that are featured on both of the lists and dive into the players at hand. Because wowers, we can already see when it comes to the best team of the pre-season, there are a number of very notable names that we can look at from some of my favorite teams. The best team of the preseason goes as follows. The top fours based off of what’s the website that does these hockey stat cards? That’s what it is. hockey stats game score metrics over the course of the preseason. Wyatt Johnston was the best player in the NHL with a 10.7 rating. Jason Robertson was up there as well. And then you had Tae Thompson from the Buffalo Sabres. Second line, you had Yanni Newman from the Seattle Kraken. Yeah. No, he was amazing. Like he scored a heck of a ton of points. He torched the Vancouver Conucks. Seattle has a really good one there in Yanni Newman. But this is where we start to see the Detroit Red Wings come through because the second best center in the NHL the pre-season stint was Dylan Larkin. He also had Michael Brans Nugard tied with Jason Robertson as one of the top forwards. Not to mention Lucas Raymond who was right in there too. Buffalo’s Josh Norris and Tyler Sean of the Dallas Stars round things out on the third line. And then on the fourth line, EMTT Finny was good enough to be placed here as one of the top, let’s just say top 12 forwards in the NHL during the preseason. Morgan Frost and Dylan Gther round out the ranks. So obviously this is kind of the trend that we see with this list. If a team does particularly well, you will generally see patterns emerge on the best and worst teams of the week or preseason in this case because you got three Dallas Stars guys, two Buffalo guys, and four Detroit guys all out there on the team of the week. On defense, it’s kind of a similar story. The best defenseman in the NHL in the preseason was Jackson Lome out of the Anaheim Ducks. Follow that up with Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Conucks, plus Darnell Nurse, Philip Roberg, Thomas Harley, and Darren Radish of all people. The best goalie in the preseason was Jordan Bennington, and the second best was Yonis Johansson of the Tampa Bay Lightning. So, right away, there’s a lot that we can cheer for when it comes to the guys who made the team of the week list. Larkin, Brans, Newugard, Raymond, and Finny all being a staple of the top forwards of the preeason. I mean, what else is there to say? You’ve got two of the leaders in Detroit, the two guys that have led the team in points the past few years, still finding ways to get on top, and you’ve got two young guys that have absolutely dominated. Michael Brian segard led the preseason in points and EMTT Finny was the seventh round pick that could that nobody thought would be anywhere near this good two years after getting drafted by Detroit. The fact that they have this amount of talent on the team at the moment is astounding. And when you think about Branson Neward and Finet Finnet emit Finny, excuse me, being under entry level contracts providing more value to the Red Wings and guys like Dylan Gensther and Morgan Frost and literally every other NHL forward that is not on this list. McDavid, Dryidle, McKinnon, Matthews, EMTT Finny, and Brans Nugard gave more value to their teams in the preseason compared to those guys. And I get it. There’s some sort of a fallacy going on here. It’s a feedback loop where young guys that are trying to make their NHL teams play the best they can and they end up leading the preseason in points. Whereas a guy like Austin Matthews doesn’t really need to try. He’s like, “Yeah, my spot’s guaranteed. Just try not to get hurt.” So, I can totally understand why this preseason thing isn’t really all too indicative of the talent level of the players compared to everybody else. We’ve got to wait until the actual regular season begins and then the weekby- week segment comes and goes. If Bransard and Finny are still on this list by the time the regular season is halfway through January, then we got ourselves a case. Meanwhile, on defense, Vancouver’s Quinn Hughes being the number one guy. Yeah, that is not surprising here. He is so good. Okay, not number one. He was number two. Jackson Lome was there at number one. Anaheim has a really good gem out of that guy who happens to be making more money than Quinn Hughes. I do think that Quinn is in a spot where if he just does what he has been doing the past few years, as long as he stays healthy and as long as the rest of the Vancouver Canucks around him are able to do their part, this guy will probably be in a lot higher contention for the Norris again this season. And he’s so good that I can confidently say that. like he should always be in the conversation, if not always, get nominated. I’m the biggest Quinn Hughes Homer there is. I’ve been a fan of this guy since before he was drafted, and I’m just so happy to see him be this good and be the most talented Vancouver Conucks player the team has had, literally since Pavl Beret. But Jackson Lome and Quinn Hughes aside, hey, guess what? Darnell Nurse is also on the team. You talk about McDavid and Dryidle not being on the team of the week. Well, guess what? Darnell is he’s 30 years old. Former top pick by Edmonton 12 years ago. He’s making a lot of money, too. 9.25 million bucks till the end of 2030. I mean, you’re never going to get point production to the same Mar and Hughesque magnitude from Darnell Nurse. But if he’s going out there and providing game score stat sheets that are this good where he is consistently providing this amount of value for Edmonton, maybe the best defense that this team needed was there all along. Who knew? And they made the finals twice in a row with this guy. That’s not Evan Buchard. That’s Darnell Nurse Buddy. If any Oilers fans are going out there and watching this video, hey, let me know in the comments. Has Darnell really been that good where it’s like, yeah, he’s way above and beyond everybody else. Philip Broberg also happens to be here too, which is kind of interesting. Former Oiler right there. But just for crafts and giggles, let’s end this video off by going over to the worst team of the preeason because there are a bunch of guys here that we probably don’t need to talk about. The worst forward in the NHL in the preseason was Columbus’s Jack Williams, followed up by Hunter Macau and Luca Panelli. The only guys to reach -4 point something. Oh, actually, nope, that’s wrong. Casey Sazikas of the New York Islanders also reached a negative four. Again, patterns. A bunch of Minnesota guys, a bunch of Columbus guys, a bunch of Calgary guys. And then on defense, where Jackson Lome was the best defenseman in the NHL in the preseason, you have Jacob Trouba, who was literally the worst. So that’s really poetic how that works out. Guom Rishard and Maxmleonian Zuber were also listed here as well as Ethan Delaestro. Devin Kulie is listed here as one of the worst goalies in the league because he had a terrible game against the Vancouver Conucks. And ultimately, you know, we shouldn’t really be too surprised about this because there are going to be a lot of AHL caliber guys getting NHL minutes in the preseason. That’s kind of what we were expecting. But the guys on the good side, the best team, they’re looking pretty good. So, I want you to let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. If you’re a fan of the Red Wings, the Canucks, the Oilers, what are your opinions on all of these players making the best team of the week in the preseason? Team of the preseason, excuse me. And what are your expectations for all of them heading into the regular season? If you enjoyed this video at any point, feel free to hit the like button.
