New York Jets at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Postgame Show | NFL | Week 3 | Jets Overtime
Hey, hey, hey. [Music] Welcome in to Jets overtime presented by SiriusXM. Caroline Hendershot, Quincy Anunwell. We’ll hear from Eric Allen and Bob Bushen later in this show. Quincy, the Jets fall to the Bucks 29 to 27, but man, that fourth quarter was that crazy. What are your initial reactions coming off that game? Well, I think the team really showed a lot of fight today, right? 21 points in that fourth quarter. I think the first three quarters were disappointing. It really felt like the Jets didn’t come out hot and it was a hot day out there. They didn’t have a they couldn’t find a way to bring that energy. They found it in the fourth quarter, but it just wasn’t enough. Baker Mayfield has had two straight games where he’s pulled it out in the fourth quarter and did it again against the Jets. Now, something that Terrod Taylor was saying in his uh press conference after the game was that they didn’t start fast enough in the first half, but they shifted more to on the ball stuff and a NASCAR style. Can you explain to me what that means? And and obviously worked in the second half. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, I think the biggest thing that you think about when you’re playing offense is how can we make sure the defense can get into their sets, right? Their base sets, their their nickel sets, all those different things. And the best thing is to go fast, keep them off the field. That’s what the Jets did. They made it they made sure that they were calling all their plays at the line. Didn’t go into a huddle. Really slows down the defense. Makes them have to go into their vanilla defense. And that’s where it’s easy to read. And you saw that Tyler Taylor was continuously picking them off, finding the outside lanes, finding all those different spots. Now, the run game obviously suffers when you do stuff like that, but allow them to score those two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Yeah, and we saw that rhythm come from Terrod Taylor as that started to develop. Let’s hear from head coach Aaron Glenn and his immediate thoughts at the podium after the game. Maybe anything different things we got to get better. that show us We just have to correct it when it comes to huge thing. AG mentioned that this game was not won or lost based on penalties. There were 15 penalties in the first half with both teams combined. It was very sloppy in the first quarter on both sides of the ball. What did you think of what AG had to say specifically about? I really liked the line of this showed me a lot of who we are and who we’re going to be. Yeah, we talked a little bit in the first in the first show about grit, right? Baker Mayfield has grit. He goes out there and he does these tough things. I think the Jets showed a lot of grit today, right? I think ultimately they could have scored more. They could have done so much more offensively, defensively. Special teams did a great job. They scored points, not only on a touchdown, but also with field goals. But I think they showed a good job in the second half of, okay, listen, we didn’t have a good first showing, but we have something within us to pull out a win. And they almost did it. You know, they have to try to carry that over to Monday night now. Yeah. Let’s take a look at our game scoring summary because this first quarter was very low scoring. It was 3-3 by the end of the first quarter. And you can just tell even in the first half here if you’re looking at this, it was 6 to13 going into the second half. And honestly, it was it was all good things. They did have two turnovers, the Jets. And it was a little bit of a slow start, but then you see as the game goes on, you get to you start picking up the pace and this is where that interception that was returned for a touchdown started to widen that score for the Jets at 20 to6. And then the fourth quarter starts and that’s when the Jets really started to get rolling. They had the Garrett Wilson touchdown. Then the Bucks came back with a field goal and it ended up with that Will McDonald blocked field goal returned for a touchdown which was I mean it had me and Quincy screaming in the back room watching it and but it was it they did really truly start to find their rhythm. So what was was this just a testament to kind of the Jets figuring out their rhythm, the play calling, or maybe it was just a little bit, you know, the Bucks offensive line, they had a lot of pieces missing, so they got called for a lot of penalties in the first quarter. What was that? Yeah, I mean, I think the Jets really are struggling in and protecting their quarterback against the Blitz. And that’s something you really saw in this game was that they couldn’t really figure out how are we going to protect our quarterback, keep them upright, and really get the ball moving down the field. And when you can’t throw the ball, it’s obvious when you’re going to run it. And so then it’s even more challenging to run the ball. So they had to figure that out. Once they were able to figure out how to kind of get the ball going a little bit. You saw that offense start to pick up. You saw defense starting to do a little bit better. One thing I do applaud with the defense is that they really held that team to a lot of kickoff, I mean, excuse me, field goals, which allowed the Jets offense to stay in the game. Right. As much as we would have loved to see them make more tackles, not let Baker Mayfield rush for 33 yards on one rush, right? There were so many different small things that they could have done better. I think overall they they kept them from getting in the end zone. Yeah. And that that blocked uh field goal was just absolutely insane from Will McDonald. We saw him come from the outside on a field goal earlier in this game and he actually made contact with the Bucks kicker and then we then saw him come over the middle or maybe I should say over the top because that he just hopped the entire offensive uh front from them and then proceeded to pick up the ball and score. Yeah, play. Yeah, it was it was an athletic play, but it was also just good timing from Will McDonald and I think that is the overall thing. Now, with the defense, you mentioned it quickly. I know you liked obviously people would have liked a little bit more, a little tighter, a little better on the details, but Quincy Williams, he ended up leaving the second half with a shoulder injury, but also Quinn Williams making a big game for himself as well. What do you like from the combination of those two and everyone else? Yeah, I mean they took advantage of the Bucks O line not being complete, right? There was a lot of injuries on that O line. We knew that the Jets defensive line had to dominate and they did a good job of getting back there. They just could not sack Baker Mayfield on that big run. It was man across the board and one thing that they’ve been really really challenged on the last couple weeks is keeping contained, right? The quarterback gets out of the pocket. How are you going to stop him? Because these guys are all playing man trying to make sure that they’re doing their job. We have to make sure we’re doing our job on the defensive line as well. And so that was a challenge today. They couldn’t get back there. They couldn’t slow him down and so even though they stopped him from scoring touchdowns, they still had at least a nine-minute drive in that third quarter that allowed him to kick a field goal and stretch the wide stretch the gap more. I know everybody wanted to see the Jets get back to that week one run game, especially from Bree Hall when he had over a 100red yards, but with a second ranked run defense in the Bucks, is that why they kind of shifted into that offense that we saw in the second half where it was faster paced? Yeah, I think that’s a big part of it. I mean, they have some big guys up front for the for the Bucks, right? Vita, we talked about him. Levonte David is a guy that’s been 100 yard 100 touchdowns, excuse me, 100 tackles every year. He’s a pro bowler, an allp pro, a future Hall of Famer possibly, right? So, they’ve got a lot of talent in that front seven that stops them from stops people from running the ball on them. And so, you have to find a way to pass the ball. But the thing about Todd Bose is he knows that. And so, that’s why he makes it difficult. He tries to confuse you with a lot of different looks and also different blisses. And so that’s why it was a little bit challenging that first half. Yeah. Well, okay, everybody who is tuning in for next week, they’re obviously going back to Florida Monday Night Football against the Dolphins. So that will be another competitive game. But then week five is when the Jets return to Metife Stadium and face off against the Cowboys on October 5th at 1 p.m. presented by Atlantic Health System. Get your seats now at nyjets.com/tick. That’s nyjets.com/tick. All right, let’s go into the film room and see your film breakdown. Quincy, presented by Microsoft Surface. Now, this was a play that came later in the game for uh the Jets, but it nonetheless it was still a positive play from them. Yeah, absolutely. It kind of got them going, right? We talked about how in the second half they were able to score 21 points. The offense scored two touchdowns and this was that first touchdown here. This is a great job by the offense because they knew that the other team was going to be in man. I appreciate that they got it to their guy because Garrett Wilson is somebody that you have to feed early and often and they did their best to get that done. So, let me do a little bit of drawing up here real quick for you guys. So, this is an easy play. It’s a it’s a base play. It’s basically drive, but instead of a corner, you have a basic route here. On the backside, you have a go route. On the inside of that go route, we’re going to run an out route. So, that was also another option. Aaron Smith might have been able to get his first touchdown as well. Then, we got the drive. I’m going to put it in red for you so you can see Garrett Wilson on the drive route on the backside. It’s a nice quick play. Here we go. And one thing that’s great for this play is the man coverage that we’re going to have all across the board. So now all the eyes are on their players, but it’s an easy pick right here at the top. You get the nice rub with the defensive back being off off coverage and it allows Garrett Wilson to get that easy touchdown. Okay, this is going to sound silly and I acknowledge that, but bear with me. That looked so easy. So easy. So why why did it look so easy and why was it so easy? Because obviously people at home who are sitting on the couch yelling at the TV are going to be like run that play more. Obviously, right? And I think the biggest thing is again they were able to get into their NASCAR package, right? They’re able to go fast. So with that, the defense can’t really get into their exotic. So you saw there they tried to kind of mix it up a little bit, but it gets really difficult and that’s when you can just kind of go out there and kind of throw the ball all around the field, right? And it’s just that faster pace truly that changes the entire game. Okay, we’re going to hear from the quarterback that actually threw that ball. Terrod Taylor caught up with Babushen after the game. We’re going to hear from him now. The NFL fan of the year contest presented by Captain Morgan is back and the Jets are looking to celebrate extraordinary fans who will represent the team at Super Bowl 60 in San Francisco. Visit nyjets.com/fanoftheear to submit your nomination now. Now, Quincy, we just heard from Trod saying there’s something that you can learn from every loss. I know everyone says that, so people get really sick of hearing that, but he did say absolutely this is something we can build off of it. What is that thing that they can actually take from this game and build off of? I think the easiest thing is that they had no quit in them, right? I think as a player, um, when you’re able to see that kind of stuff, it kind of gives you a little bit more of, uh, confidence in your abilities, confidence in your coaches, confidence in yourself that, you know, no matter what happens, even when you’re being kicked down, you’re able to come back and score 21 points in that fourth quarter to almost win the game. I mean, Aaron Glenn said this in his press conference. He said, “We’re not the same. We’re not that same team. We’re not the same old Jets.” Because he hates that saying. And I honestly really believe that from this showing because there haven’t been a lot of games where the score is what it was going into the fourth quarter and the Jets come back and play that level of football and they have someone like Quincy Williams go out. It’s it was still competitive and they really put on the Jets. So while it might not have been the best first three quarters, they still were able to kind of show their brand of football by the end. Now we’re going to get into some report cards that you have for us. Q. We’re gonna start off with special teams and what your grade for special teams was this game. Yeah. So, uh, special teams, you know, when you get everything that you’re supposed to do, you kick all your field goals and then you get a touchdown. I got to give you an A+ right there. Right. So, I gave special teams an A+. What a great showing from uh the special teams unit as a whole, right? They did a great job of keeping the ball safe, scoring scoring field goals, scoring touchdowns. I love that call to bring Will McDonald over the middle. He had been going off the edge the last few games and I was really confused. I’m like, I’ve never seen a defensive end trying to block a kick from the edge, but they knew what they were doing. They brought him out there. They brought him inside. He’s an athletic freak. That’s the type of guy that you want to put out there to do those type of things. Not everybody can do that. So, a great job, great call, and it worked out for them. I will say, remember when he was hopping off over all of those cars before he was drafted? Looks like it paid off. That’s all I’m going to say about that. Good for him for showing that because Exactly. Okay. Report card for the offense. Yeah, so the offense um not a great showing in the first half. Um, but I I did give them a plus for what they did in the second half. Two scoring touchdowns, right? Two scoring drives. That’s huge. Um, I gave them a C++. Um, I think that they obviously could have had a better first half. I would have loved to see the run game really get going, but the pass game they did a great job of reading the defense and making those plays. One thing that they really got to fix on this as a whole, as a unit, as a receivers, is really attacking the football, right? You had opportunities, drops in the game. you had another opportunity possibly where that pick might have been something that you could have at least knocked down with your hands up there attacking the ball. Right? So, there’s a small things that they can continue to improve on which is why it’s a C, right? You have an opportunity to get better each week. And those are small minor changes that you really can correct in a week, don’t you believe? Everything is correctable. I think right now you’re three games of the season. It’s easy for us to watch it and get feel like it’s doom and gloom, but there’s a long season. Uh, nobody wants to hear that. But as a player, it’s important for you to keep that in your head because then you can pull it out in the end. And we understand no moral victories. That’s what AG has been preaching. That’s what Terod Taylor was just saying to Babusen. But it’s still it’s steps in the right direction. And you have to remember that this is the first year under a head coach. Like there is time to grow and find yourself and build. So, while everyone has these very high expectations for Aaron Glenn and the team underneath him, which I think are completely valid, you have to give it time to develop and to kind of learn what that style is. Okay. What’s your grade for the defense? So, defense, I had to go back and forth here. I love that they kept the other team out of the end zone too many times, but there were so many different opportunities where they could have even gotten ps, turnovers, all these different things. So, I gave them a C. Um, I’m trying to figure out what they can change, but I think the biggest thing for me is the tackling. the tackling is just not where it needs to be. You saw it in the first half, there were so many missed opportunities, whether it was on a screen, whether it was on a run, they just could not bring the guy down. Now, obviously, they have some good backs, good ball carriers, but at the end of the day, you have to make those plays. Then on the outside, you know, they had some big catches, especially from Ibuka. He had some good passes, catches on the right sideline, the left sideline, right? The secondary, they have to figure out how to get the ball down. They’ve been in great position. That’s something that we cannot say that they’ve been doing a bad job of, but they just not have been able to then make the play on the ball. Right. And there were still some good plays. I mean, like you’re seeing on the screen now, like Quincy knocked the ball out of Baker Mayfield’s hands and saw broke up a what could have been a big gain. There were still really good plays and flashes where it looked all coming together, but it’s almost tackles like you just saw from Quincy Williams where it was just more immediate and and a faster takedown of that player cuz I feel like we saw some of these runs that they would the Bucks would get and it they would make they would still gain like four yards and so it’s almost really just kind of honing in on those details and bringing those guys down faster. Exactly. Getting off the field on third down. That’s one thing that really helped that hurt them and then getting on staying on the field on third down for the offense. So, what are those things that a team would practice specifically for tackles like that that you want to fix and what’s that drill in practice that you’re working on or the focus in practice? Well, the the idea that you think is that when you’re doing all that tackling in in the offseason that it’s going to help, but I think right now these guys are kind of playing a little bit outside of themselves. Everybody wants to make a play. Everybody wants to go be that big hit. They want to go out there and be the guy that can go celebrate. But I think right now you got to play as a complete unit and that involves staying within yourself, right? A lot of times they’re chasing these guys and they’re overpursuing, right? So that’s another thing that you can work on is the pursuit drills, right? If you stay at that back hip, right, then he can’t cut back and make those big plays. Yeah. And it’s it’s tough because when someone like Quincy Williams goes out of the game at halftime, you almost feel like, okay, I do have to overcompensate and make those bigger plays and and then it comes back to kind of be as a little bit of a cyclical cycle with them. Okay, so let’s go to back to Tampa Bay and we’re going to hear from EA who caught up with Will McDonald. We get to hear from Will McDonald there on the defensive side of the ball, but I want to bring us back quickly before we hit our final thoughts on the offense in the fourth quarter. Now, we we you obviously showed us the Garrett Wilson touchdown, but that Allen Lazar touchdown, we didn’t really get to talk about that one as well. What did you see from Terrod in just his decision making as the game progressed specifically in the fourth quarter? Because obviously the plays were being called faster, but what about his decision making? Yeah, I mean he did a great job. I think ultimately in this type of style of defense, your job is to get the ball out quick because they’re bringing a lot of pressure. He got sacked four times, so he knew that he had to get it get rid of the ball and he did a great job finding the flats, finding the quick and open guys. I think even on the touchdown, he did a good job of using his legs and we saw that in the first half. He was doing a good job getting out of the pocket, picking up first downs with his legs. And that’s one thing you want about your mobile quarterbacks is that, okay, if if it’s not open, find a way to find your man. He did that. There’s a great job with that throw to Alen Lazard. Yeah, that one touchdown to Alen Lazard, he he took his time in in the right way almost. You know, it wasn’t detrimental to the offense as a whole because he found a way to still stay protected while he uh looked for Allen in the end zone. All right, we’re going to look at our upcoming schedule because the the Jets are going back to Florida next week, but they have an extra day to prepare for the Miami Dolphins. That’s going to be Monday Night Football. So, that’s going to be week four. It’s going to be their second game in Florida backtoback. And then they come back to Metife Stadium for October 5th. That’s week five against the Cowboys. What are we expecting, Q from an AFC East showdown on Monday night in Florida? What do you What do you remember about playing the Dolphins? Well, first off, I think the Dolphins are also 0 and3, right? So, that’s two 0 and3 teams. They’re going to be pretty hungry. I think someone’s coming out with a win. Exactly. Somebody has to come out with a win, but I remember the Dolphins games all the time. I think our biggest rivalry obviously was always the Patriots. Tom Brady was there. But the Dolphins always had a lot of fun there, too, because you know, when you go over there, they actually have a stadium where they put you right in the sun. Oh, yeah. So, not only is it going to be 100 degrees, but you’re also going to feel the entirety of the sun on your body. Now, obviously, it’s Monday night, so they won’t have to deal with that, but it’s still there. They they still find a way to get their home field advantage. And, you know, this is an offense that one thing about the Dolphins offense, they get the ball out quick. They don’t allow you to get that pressure on them. So, they’re going to have to watch out for that. And it could look like a completely different team as well because they could be getting some names back. We don’t know where the Justin Fields concussion protocol will be and what stage that will be. We don’t know where Germaine Johnson will be. We don’t know if J2 Flee will be back in the mix. So, there’s a lot of different pieces that we might see or it could still be this team that we saw, but they will be able to build off it like you said. Now, let’s uh final thoughts before we wrap up. Yeah. So, I mean, I think the biggest thing for this team is to figure out what your identity is. I think they’ve continued to say and and verbalize what their identity is, but they’re not showing it on the field. They want to be a heavy run team, play action pass, but they haven’t found a way to get that because they haven’t done a good job of protecting the quarterback the last two games. blitzes have really torn them up and so they have to find a way to protect themselves against a blitz because teams are going to continue to attack that and then defensively they have to figure out how to get off the field on third down. You got to tackle these guys, man. You got to bring them down. If they can handle those two things, this team is going to look a lot different. Right now, it’s very small mental things that they have to get over, but it’s not scheme stuff. You just have to figure out how to figure this stuff out. And it’s fixable. It’s all fixable because I remember Aaron Glenn after last week’s game against the Bills too was saying, “I’m actually not feeling the same way that all of you guys are feeling right now because I know that we can correct them and I know that we will correct them.” So, thanks everybody so much for sticking around with us on Jets overtime. You’ll see us next on pregame central, not on Sunday, on Monday. So, enjoy your weekend full of football and we will see you on Monday night when the Jets take on the Miami Dolphins. [Music]

Same ol Jets. What do you expect with Mr. Fake Spike at the helm. And retreads for QB's
Making to much money at 1JD for such trash audio cmon man wtf
This team is dumpster fire 🔥!!!
3-14 here we come. We will get a top 5 pick and that will be a bust
For starters, any long time jets fan is watching the same ole garbage ! Different year, different head coach, same results ! But it gets better ! Glenn running and jumping around like a 5 year old on Xmas after the blocked punt tells us all we need to know ! The lack of professionalism starts at the top and it trickles down and the fans see it all ! Not only are fans laughing at Glenn, the entire NFL is ! The jets still can't tackle, still can't stop a run, still can protect the QB and still hire 1st time coaches that couldn't even be hs coaches ! A embarrassment once again !
Omg. The Ghetto Strut was amazing. DEI. Yess!!!!!!
