Tarrik Brock Almost Quit Baseball—Then Made History in Japan
I remember I was at the point where I was debating like, man, should I have, you know, played football? You know, can I go back and play football? And I remember sitting on the couch and I’m going, I’m sick of struggling. I’mma quit. And she was like, well, I got to go back to school. So, if you’re going to do that, let’s just go ahead and do it and let’s drive all the way back to California from Jacksonville, Florida. So, I get up and I go, “Yep, I’m going to quit. We we we’re going to leave today.” I get to the stadium and I I thought I was late. It was a rain delay, right? Nobody knew I was missing. I looked at the lineup. I’m batting six, playing right field. Long story short, I go two for three with an RBI. I drive home. My wife meets me at the door and she goes, “Oh, I guess we’re not quitting.” I said, “No, we’re not.” If I had quit, I wouldn’t be here talking to you guys today and I wouldn’t have had that chance to get my first major league hit in Tokyo, Japan or be a part of this team for the last six ears.
Tarrik Brock made history in Japan in 2000 when he became the first player in MLB history to debut on foreign soil, a debut that almost didn’t happen.
