Is Rich Eisen Finally Concerned about the 2-3 Kansas City Chiefs?? | The Rich Eisen Show

didn’t look pretty last night. They are playing like a 500 team right now, which is tough to see. And they are not playing consistently enough to win games against opportunistic teams that are full of talent and confidence. And they go down in Jacksonville last night to be despite being up 14- nothing. Usually it’s a wrap when this defense takes the field with two minutes to go and the other team needs a touchdown to win. Usually it’s a wrap and it wasn’t last night. And the Chiefs are making way too many mistakes right now that you’re not used to seeing. 13 penalties including two on uh on kickoff. They’re making like that last penalty, the last holding penalty on the kickoff that put them back deep in their own end as opposed to on the 30 yard line with a couple with some timeouts left and enough time on the clock more than with all due respect to our according to producer doesn’t want to hear it than they had against the Bills years ago needing a field goal. So to force overtime and they just made too many mistakes. Harrison Buter missing kicks kicked one out of bounds. defensively. Everybody’s pointing out Chris Jones today in Brazil. It was a mistake uh mental mistake of taking the wrong path to Justin Herbert. He goes and takes advantage and slides and takes the time off the clock to beat the Chiefs. Last night, everybody’s pointing out how he hardly, as we talked about with Chris Long in hour number one, he hardly gave a lick of effort on that play in which Trevor Lawrence fell down, stumbled around, and then got up and got for a touchup. Normally, Chris Jones is so far in the back field. Lawrence is touched, no timeouts remaining. They’re not going to win that football game, most likely. Yeah, Mahomes throws a pick six right over the middle. Devin Lloyd takes advantage, flashes in. Good defensive play. These things happen and normally the Chiefs can slough that off because they come up with a turnover on their own goal line where Trevor Lawrence comes up tries to put it across the goal line and he’s the latest person to fumble inside the oneyd line trying to go in that we’ve seen this year. It’s been a rash of those. Normally the Chiefs, you do that to them after they’re up for, you know, up up a score. That’s a wrap. But not this time around. They’re two and three. And Patrick Mahomes was pointing that out last night. Yeah. I mean, it kind of just talks about our our whole entire season. I mean, we um I feel like we have we have the guys and we we’ve executed at certain points of game and looked really good and then we we kind of we crush ourselves with penalties and mistakes and interceptions and and fumbles or whatever that is. is I mean it’s just we’ve kind of we’ve kind of done that to ourselves all year long. Um it’s kind of been one guy here or there and in this league it’s so close that those those change games and so um we got to be better. You know we we we’ve lost too many games already. Um and so we got to find a way to to be better as a team and um come together and uh play better throughout the rest of the season. Yeah. That’s how you go from not losing a single one-sore game last year or going back two years 17 straight one-score games you win to losing three of them this year. That’s how you do it, by making these types of mistakes. It’s their first loss after leading by at least 14 points in four years. So, that’s what happens. Andy Reid pointing out the penalties being so difficult to overcome. My hat goes off to Jacksonville. They did a nice job. Uh we we obviously had uh 13 penalties to their four. Whether I agree with them or don’t agree with them, it doesn’t matter. They called them. And so, uh, you have that many penalties, you give up field position, you can outstat them to death, uh, but it doesn’t matter. It’s the score that matters. And, uh, we’ve got to take care of business there. They sure do. So, here’s the scoop. Um, are are they looking differently than they have in the past few years? You bet. 100%. The last time they’ve started two and three or worse was 2021. and they finished 12 and five, made the AFC Championship game in home and lost to Joe Burrow. So, can they turn it around? Absolutely. As a matter of fact, the time they started 2 and three before that, they made the playoffs as well in 2015. Andy Reed’s been there, done that. Mahomes has actually even been there and done that. Second time in his career that he’s under 500 through five weeks. The other time, as I mentioned, he still hosted the AFC Championship game, lost to Joe Burrow. So clean up the mistakes and and and somehow rally these troops because the division’s still winnable. Couple weeks ago they’re 0 and2 and the Chargers um were looking much healthier than now and they’re only a game behind them right now and only a game behind Denver who they’ve yet to play. The Raiders, unfortunately for them, don’t look like they’re going to be able to pull anything together to try and make a run to join these three at the top of the AFC West. So, the division is still within reach. The wild card race, you take a look at that, if you will. Um, and they’re only a game behind that. And and they, you know, Mahomes is playing at the top of his game. 49th career game with 300 pass 300 uh pass yards in the game. And um first 11 seasons in NFL history, only Matt Ryan and Drew Brees have had more. And um and uh he’s now alltime in third place with the number of 300yard pass games in his career. How about that? In his first 11 seasons, just passed Curt Warner on that list. More than Pton Manning. I mean, Mahomes still Mahomes. Kelsey scored a touchdown, albeit, you know, Russell Jük thought there should have been a penalty on that one. Um, I disagree with that call. Uh, that that it looked close enough to that one yard line to be honest with you. Um, and um, the season’s not over, the division’s not over, the wild card certainly isn’t gone, but they do not look like the team we have seen for the last few years. They just haven’t last two weeks la you know against the Ravens they did and the Ravens didn’t look like a mass unit just yet. So the problem is as well the team that’s playing the best football over the last month is coming into their house ready to try and put their pelt on their wall again just like they did on a banner raising night a couple years ago. Here come the Lions and even if they’re two and four after that home for Vegas. There’s a Monday night at home against Washington which is not going to be easy. They visit Buffalo, which we all know the train whistles will be going nuts on that night. They just have to beat Denver. If they can sweep that season series, great. They can sweep the season series against Vegas. Take care of the business against the Chargers when they see him there. Have a winning record in their own division. Win the division and go to the playoffs and make some A and you’re you’re the ones that are going to have to one and done. Patrick Mahomes and crew good luck. That that’s the way through all this. But right now, it doesn’t look good. You got to tip your cap to Jacksonville. But that one was a shocker. Up 14 nothing and then up again with 2 minutes and change to go. Those are the ones that you you’re like, “This thing’s on ice. Good luck. It’s over.” But they keep making too many mistakes on on special teams for sure. Um, but I I’m I’m I’m u somewhat concerned. I’m not I’m not terribly concerned. Hey, you made it all the way to the end. Thanks for that. Check us out every single day streaming live on Disney Plus and the ESPN app 12 to 3 Eastern.

  1. "The New England Patriots, they're not good anymore!" -Matt Hasselbeck, shortly before the Patriots won 3 of the next 5 Super Bowls. (And should have won 4 if the NFL didn't steal 52 from them.)

Now of course no sane person would ever say Patrick Mahomes is anywhere near Tom Brady's caliber, but he is the king in this league right now.

  2. Are they out of the playoffs? Obviously not.

Should they still be concerned? Yes. Last year they were 11-0 in 1 score games. They're now 0-3 in 1 score games this year. They can't let this trend continue. You can still be concerned about a playoff team, and to ignore it is just inviting trouble to take you out before the Superbowl.

  3. Call me a cynic or old-fashioned, but I was not sold on this whole dynamic kickoff thing. I thought it just more useless tinkering. But I'm slowly coming around. It does introduce some uncertainty and stress into a portion of the game that was somewhat dormant, except for an occasional breakout return.

  4. Chiefs are a 9-8, 10-7 team at best. This game proves they aren't as good as they get credit for when the zebras don't play on their side.

  5. I still believe in my Chiefs. They won a SB on an 11-6 record. I am disappointed with the haters in the comments that continue to whine about refs even though the Chiefs got THIRTEEN penalties and LOST the game. Good lord, people. Give that argument up already.

  6. Chiefs are the only team that can have a losing record and fans be like "Chiefs got the nfl right where they want them"… Bad teams lose games like this.. plain and simple.

  7. The refs called a bad DPI on 3rd and 15 on the Jags first scroing drive that was BS. Missed an offensive blocking against Bolton on forst and goal that should ha e made it a 10 yd minus play. The Jags only got called for 4 penalties. And 2 of those were false starts on the same drive. Give me a break. Glad to see the Jags fans celebrating their Superbowl win. Can not wait for KC to eliminate them in the playoffs, AGAIN!

  8. I'm not all worried until we have 5 losses before last qtr of season or we keep throwing games away after Rice returns. Not remotely worried. It was ALL fixable last night. All mental errors.

  9. It’s the mistakes and penalties. Other than that, they looked the best they have so far this year. MaHomes has plenty of time. The running game was getting many plays over 5 yards, Kareem had one for 37. Quite a few completions over 10 yards, even 20 yards. The defense could have been better for sure and Butker is a huge question mark but they can still get to the playoffs if they clean up the play.

  10. I was sad that I didn’t get to laugh out loud at Butker missing during the game. And then that god awful kick off happened and I got the biggest laugh yet. Beautiful.
