Is Your Team Eliminated? Here’s Why the Milwaukee Brewers Deserve Your Support
Pick your poison. Brand new series on FT. So, your team’s not in it. Who do you root for? We’re going to highlight certain franchises and talk more about the organization and the people around them and see if you’re going to buy into rooting for them. We’re going to start with the team that had the best record in baseball this year and they have never put together a World Series title, the Milwaukee Brewers. AJ, why should some rogue fans switch allegiances temporarily from a team that’s not in it and root for the Brewers the rest of the way? Think about this here for a second because they’re fun as hell to watch and the crowd is awesome and they have the craziest manager in the game. Crazy like a fox though. and Pat Murphy says things does things that are a little bit off base, but his players get them and if you talk to him, he really knows baseball. Um, just the way they play kind of an old school baseball and if you’re into that and you’re into guys that bunt and guys that take first to third and guys that can cover ground defensively and and good pitching, then the Brewers are your team in one through nine that they’re a sum of parts over over stars. But for me, they’re just a fun team to watch. and Murf and the way he handles it. Did you guys see Murf the other day when they scored like nine in the first two? They showed him in the dugout and he just had that little I hate to say this little crap eaten grin where he was just like they first time ever you never see Murf smile during a game but he just had that little grin and then Craig Council was over in his dugout just stressing. So I just think they’re a fun team to watch and Murf is great and you know they got some gimmicks but they make them work. I’m going to say to follow this team because your team is not in the playoffs. Pirates, Reds, your teams are not in the playoffs right now. Cardinals, your teams are not in the playoffs. If you’re a small market, you need to follow this team. And this is the team you should choose because their organization year in and year out puts a team out on the field that can win and then they get behind them as an organization and say, “Okay, this is what you need. This is what you’re good at.” And they get the most out of their players. They don’t make any more money than any of the other small market teams. They’re actually the smallest TV market in baseball until Vegas comes into town. But that’s the way that you you can you can get on board with this team. Like you can get on board with how each of these guys were not necessarily the first picked by other teams. You can get on board with the fact that they got the DFA bullpen. I guess it’s not as much this year, but it’s a bunch of guys that have been put together and they figured out how to win. Oh, and they figured out how to win more than everybody else in big league baseball. It’s a great call. You know who I’m thinking about too in the mix here? Christian Yelich did sign one of those big boy contracts. So, if you’re a fan of a small market team and you’re like, “My team won’t sign up my dude for a long period of time because my owner’s complaining.” Then you look over at Milwaukee and you say successful, they win games. Attendance because they win games. Enough money to sign a franchise player. And that’s Yelich coming over from another team, right? If you get somebody early on like Jackson Cheerio who already looks like a star player in our sport at a very young age, then you can wrap him up for a long period of time. I think the Brewers make many other fan bases jealous, AJ. They even make big market owners very jealous. Why? Because then they turn to their front office executives and say, “How come they’re doing that with this and you guys get all the resources and you can’t beat them?” uh see David Sterns in the Mets at the present moment. Steve Cohen had sent out a apology letter after they didn’t make the postseason. By the way, it looks like there’s a lot of rims behind me, doesn’t it, with all the doors. But um and also, as Jeremy pointed out, it is the best tailgate city in Major League Baseball. I mean, they get there hours before the game and they have great and if you can just walk outside the stadium, you smell the BRZ and the and everything, grilled burgers on the grill, it is a great smell. So, they they also do that, right? And they have one of the best logos in the game. And they have two mascots. They have Bernie Brewer, the slide, but Barrelman gets very underrated as a mascot. Let’s not forget Barrelman and what they do there. I want to hit on Yelich because I played with him the year he won the MVP and then they locked him up after that. As a small market organization, you have to you ha you can’t miss on these types of signings. You can’t miss on spending $200 million on one player. So to me, it’s all about how that player is going to act when things are good and when things are bad. And Christian Yelich couldn’t be somebody who is more every single day ready to prove that this contract wasn’t a fluke, wasn’t a fluke, wasn’t somebody something that he shouldn’t have gotten. So when your small market doesn’t want to lock up a guy like Christian Yelich, you’re really you’re losing so much value for the organization. Yelli almost feels bad that he got the contract. He knows he’s a good player, but he almost feels bad that he’s getting paid this much and he wants to go out every single day and prove it. When he was hurt, he was like, “The worst part is that I’m not out there with the boys.” When he wasn’t playing well, he was like, “You know what? It’s okay. I’ll turn it around cuz I’m out there every single day and they can see that I’m not 100%. But it means more to be out there every day and playing with the boys. And now he’s fully healthy or as fully healthy as Christian Yelich needs to be. And he’s a freaking lynch pin of that lineup right now. and they all kind of follow suit behind him and they all he’s that leader that’s not that you know maybe outward leader that some people think but in that clubhouse he sets that tone and he sets that environment. I’ll also give credit to the team for valuing their broadcasters. They have some really good broadcast talent and they stick around there clearly for a reason. Brian Anderson, Jeff Levering, and the legend in a class of his own, Bob Uker, who was a brilliant game caller, a brilliant ambassador of our sport. Funny as hell. And look, he spends a good chunk of his life calling Milwaukee Brewer games. So, there is a love. I mean, if you haven’t been to a game out there and uh I would definitely advise it. It’s it’s a really fun experience. The people that you’re around from a fan-based perspective are special. So, it makes sense. And it’s not like we’re just, you know, doing the Milwaukee Brewers Kool-Aid drinking session here right now, AJ. We’re going to do this for some other teams as well. But I think this is a good way to look at things. Oh, yeah. And they’re easy to work with. Mike Vasalo, their their PR guy is great, even though he, you know, he doesn’t show up sometimes because he had his appendix out. Like, come on, Vasalo. Be better than that. Um, right. But you forgot Rock. They’re they’re an analyst who’s there a lot. He’s great to listen to. Um, there’s just a lot of things that are good. Sophia Menard and one of their other, you know, that that translates for some of the Spanish g Spanish players is awesome. The people just are really nice when you walk through the ballpark. And plus, I mean, I I mean, there is I’m not quite on the crat, you know, full bandwagon with the Brewers, but I will say this, I’ve got to go down the slide. I’ve got to run in the sausage race. It it’s it’s a pretty cool place, Milwaukee. And and the town is sneaky good. If you know where you’re going, it is sneaky good. I was there last weekend and they were having October Fest. Let’s just say there might have been some some old beers thrown down by me. They have a few of those out there in Milwaukee. Yep. They got a lot of fest. They got a lot of fests in Milwaukee. Concerts. It’s a sneaky great music scene, too. Everybody goes to Milwaukee to do their concert. Mhm. That’s true. Sneaky Sneaky good golf, too, by the way. Sneaky good golf. For a little longer and then and then No. Yeah, but I’m not there in the winter, so I don’t really care about the snow. Yeah, they don’t have a great football team. I’m not a big fan of their football team, but the rest of If you like this segment, let us know in the comments. And if you want us to bring up another team in the postseason mix, then we can do that. FT fam, another reason why you should love Arena Club is the grading system. So, you recently pulled a slab pack and then you said, “Hey, it’s not graded. Grade it for me.” They give you an 8.5 out of 10 on your auto whitey Ford card and then they show you all the details of the grading system. It’s very interactive within the app and then you’re done. If you want to sell the card or you want to know what it’s worth, you’ve got it. Yeah. It’s like getting taken to school on cards. And I think that’s the coolest part of it. If you’re young or old, you understand, hey, this is how it gets deciphered all the way through. It shows you the numbers and how they went through it. I think that’s the coolest part about this whole thing. And then you can keep it traded or sell it to whatever you want. And it’s so much more efficient to do this through Arena Club. Whether you’re ripping a pack, there’s the slab packs, buying a card, selling a card, grading a card, it’s all there for you. We talk about it all season long. I'll definitely support the Brewers. I hate the stupid Dodgers. Anyone would be better than the Dodgers.
As a Braves fan, I definitely respect the Brewers and hope they beat the Dodgers in the NLCS
I am cardinals fan so we are out but always any team other than dodgers
As a Brewers fan, I haven't had this much fun watching them play since Harvey's Wallbangers. I absolutely love this team. Win it all for Ueck!!
As long as the Crankees and Dodgers AREN'T in the World Series…
Everybody hating the big bad dodgers for actually trying, damn.
As a White Sox fan, I'm also a Brewers fan now by defacto. Andrew Vaughn doing well for the Brew Crew is a bonus 😂
It's been such a fun season with the Brewers. I don't want it to end. They are playing like they did during the long winning streaks this summer and I am here for it! Go Crew!!!
I cannot support Milwaukee as long as Selig still lives
do you think he's for real?
This whole underdog narrative and that this is so cool for baseball is so overblown. Like let’s stop they won 97 games and had the best record nothing about that says underdog
As a lifelong Sox fan and Brewers always my #2 ever since Robin's rookie year, I love AJ (my late mom's fav player) revealing the great things about Wisconsin where I live now. The infield hits, the stolen bases, clutch pitching and big hits when they need them have made them the most fun to watch since 1982 Harvey's Wallbangers. GO BREW!
And thn tbere's Roll Out the Barrel!
