I'm watching Chicago play Florida, Chicago took a penalty. They cleared the zone at least 4-5 times, making frequent changes, and killed off the power play. Why have we struggled so mightily to do something that even the worst teams do way more easily than we do? Do you think it will improve this year?

They’re much too passive on both the PK and the PP. Guys stop skating and settle into their defensive alignment, so when a puck becomes loose they’re not in a position to get the puck
I’m not advocating for chaos, mind you. Just that you need at least a modicum of aggressiveness
And even make it look easy…
All the time. I especially the power play
Power play needs to emphasize shots , instead of trying for the perfect shot. I love Barzel but if he starts his twirling and dipping and turning only to turn over the puck I’m gonna be wrecking a lot of tv’s
And why has it been an issue for this team for my entire life lol
Because we haven’t had speed, grit, or any fiesty players on this team in years. Guys that aren’t afraid to get chippy in the corner.
No personality, no intimidation, no character.
Teams haven’t been scared of ANYTHING the Isles put on the ice, so it gives them confidence.
We’re on a good path towards building character and confidence, but still have a lot of work to do.
For reference, I’m talking about a guy like Gatcomb with a little more hockey IQ. Pageau could’ve been HIM if he was taller.
Look at our roster, no one’s intimidated by them. But, again, the future is promising and I’m confident in our GM
Bingo. You totally nailed it
Our PK was actually excellent down the stretch last year, top 10 (or close to it) from January 1st onward. Hopefully that was just them taking time to grasp the new PK system and it carries over to this season.
