Mixed feelings reading this article. Deebo was my fav player and I would wear his retro white jersey to Levi’s from 2019 until last season. But it seemed like he disappeared in the Super Bowl because he couldn’t beat man coverage and short screens were well-defended. It didn’t seem like he could break tackles anymore and would go down after initial contact. I was bummed but I understood why the front office moved on from him after he requested a trade.
I haven’t watched Washington games this year. Is he actually getting open with honest route running and speed or is Kingsbury scheming him open?
“The San Francisco 49ers have somehow been able to pull off a 4-1 start, despite dealing with a number of injuries at wide receiver. But while the 49ers are looking under the NFL’s proverbial couch cushions for help at the position, castoff Deebo Samuel is having a remarkable bounce-back season in his new home with the Commanders.
Samuel continued his strong start to 2025 with his best game yet on Sunday, finishing with eight receptions for 96 yards and a late touchdown to seal Washington’s 27-10 win over the Chargers. That touchdown was his fourth of the season, matching the number of touchdowns Samuel tallied in his final year with the Niners.”

I’m glad he’s thriving.
How was he cast off? He left, we didn’t force him out.
Give it time he’ll be back to his old injured self soon enough /s. Seriously happy for him and wish he finds success there.
I think most of us expected him to do well this year since he’ll be motivated unlike how he’s been with us for the past few years
“Cast off”
He asked to be traded! Let’s be honest, his route running sucked but he was speedy with those lil chonky legs. Kyle’s system requires tight routes and he just wasn’t doing that. He got overweight and admitted his play had fallen off. Cast off…get outta here with that clickbait!
We love and will always cherish the memories with Deebo. Hes forever a 49er favorite for me.
Glad to see him doing well in Washington. I wish them luck on their journey.
I’m super happy to watch him playing hard again. I think the pneumonia last year was the reason for his decline
Good for him. Hope we beat the Commanders if we face em, but I am happy for them and their fans after all the shit they’ve dealt with under Snyder.
Happy for the guy, but having watched the Commanders game, he seems like the same old Deebo. Some good plays, some misses, not really beating 1on1, but can give you a few good runs. He’s far from the 2021 monster of legend though.
Deebo was good for us. His play dropped off the last few years. We did trade him. He was one of those players that just needed a change of scenery. He is doing well in Washington but maybe that’s all he needed. His play will start falling to where it was with us. But it is what it is. I hope he does well, he deserves it. But it sucks that he didn’t want to be here. But bun bye.
Sometimes a player just needs a fresh start, and he seems like a good fit there.
Good for him.
Cast off? He wanted out.
it was pretty obvious that deebo was lukewarm on the niners after his holdout so its not surprising to see him in shape and engaged in a new setting
Better to do it one year early than one year late. Happy for Deebo but he’s likely going to fall off hard this year/next.
To be clear, “Cast off by the 49ers…” was the headline written by the author from SF Gate, not by me. I just copied the link to the article. I guess a more appropriate headline would’ve been, “Moving on from the 49ers, Deebo is thriving with the Commanders”.
Happy for what he contributed to the Niners, he is a Commander now and thus the opposition. I say it all the time with folks on the baseball side, loyalty should be to the name on the front of the jersey not the one on the back. Players unfortunately in today’s sports come and go. That’s why I have my Niners Legends only rule when it comes to jersey purchases. Only current player I own is a Warner Rivalry and he damn sure is going into the Ring of honor.
He’s averaging 60 yards receiving and 10 yards rushing. I’m happy he’s healthy but that’s not quite regret territory for me.
For me, he was the heart and the soul of 49ers since 2019. I thought the trade was perfect timing since 49ers paid BA and Brock Purdy while having drafted Ricky Pearsall. Watching him play on Commanders is cool, and I’m glad he can be of help to them. When I watched Commanders last game, it seemed like Deebo was just a good player, but no longer holding as much charisma as he once did on 49ers. I can see why he felt cast off by some fans, but the organization has always stood by him.
“Cast off by”, Yes, having a meeting with leadership where you ask to leave the team with no hard feelings, is “Cast off”. Fuck some journalists.
He wasn’t a “castoff”, he asked for a trade himself at exit interviews.
In my opinion from Sundays game same old Deebo not young Deebo, he will regress to the norm, chargers had no pass rush with Mack out and Joey left to Bills
This was on the Chargers this whole game when they fumbled in the 2nd quarter and Greg Roman played like the 49ers days of yore on how to not adapt with no oline,.giving. The Commanders plenty of offensive drives in the day.
The late touchdown was meaning less score game was over.
Let’s see him against the Eagles twice this year as a real test
Was he cast off? Didn’t he demanded a trade?
Jordan Mason has 4.7 ypc with Minnesota so lots of players are doing well.
Miss him, wish him nothing but the best 🖤
Cast off?!? That’s a stretch. Is this a Cohn chode?
I’m happy for Deebo and glad to see him back to form in DC. He’s a 49er legend in my eyes. He Single handedly took over games too many times to not be forever loved by the Faithful
