  1. That’s my hero! Happy to see this. Love you AI thanks for making my childhood awesome

  2. You can tell in his voice he’s for real. So many times he’d be at the games and just be obliterated drunk

  3. I hope he knows that if he stays on the straight and narrow, life will and should ultimately just get sweeter and sweeter. I’ll have 1 year of sobriety in November after a really hard 4-5 years of drinking a fifth a day. Can’t believe I was actively foregoing food and just drinking instead during my weeklong benders.

  4. Can do no wrong in my eyes. Favorite player ever. Glad he’s doing better 💪🏿

  5. That dude’s been through a lot, so far as I understand it. I’m glad he’s getting himself together.

  6. Great to hear. He always cries on podcasts and I’m sure some of that is being the emotional drunk.

  7. I feel like the new generation of kids looks at the prior generation drinking alcohol, the same way our generation looks at our parents generation smoking cigarettes. like, why tf would you intentionally do that to yourself?

  8. Good on him. It’s true bout seeing other people drunk, at least for me. I went through a rough period of very heavy drinking and have been 2 years sober now.

Every time I see anyone drinking/drunk these days I am reminded of how stupid I used to get and am so happy I don’t partake anymore. I can’t even drink certain sodas or juice anymore bc I used to use them as cheap chasers and I immediately want to puke.

  9. GREAT timing. If I recall correctly, his Rebook contract starts paying him $1M a year when he turns 55, and he’s 50 now. As a recoveree myself, I worried he wouldn’t make it to 55.

If he’s still alive and sober then, he will start using money wisely for the first time in his life. Could have a pretty rewarding third act in his life.

  10. I have a friend struggling with addiction and it really makes me happy seeing stories like this. Hope he keeps it up 🙏🏾

  11. It’s always uplifting to see childhood heroes beat addiction!
Makes me think of my older brother—after his divorce, he spiraled into heavy drinking, lost his job, and wrecked his liver. But when his daughter said she wanted him at her elementary school graduation, he fought like hell to quit alcohol and get healthy. Sometimes, the best reason to heal is staring right at you.
