#Cowboys Fish at 6 LIVE: LINEUP CHANGES COMING? The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

I cannot guarantee you yet that what the Dallas Cowboys did against the New York Jets on NFL Sunday, week five, that that guarantees major changes in the way way they use their personnel. I will suggest that we might at least privately, not publicly, sense a depth chart, depth chart change or two and maybe even a lineup change as we go forward because of what happened in that game. Get on. Be get in. Get in. Get on. Be good. I’m Mike Fischer, your trusty and trusted reporter. And the way we’re going to steer this is to names, new names. Nate Thomas, Ryan Florenoi, Maris, Leo, Shamar, James, James Houston, Young Wilson, Young Wilson, it’s been a while. Ah, that’s a little much for me. It’s a little much for me. Uh, because first of all, culture is so vague and undefinable. You can’t how do you really get your hands around it? I know that it’s Shotti’s big thing. Uh, I just think they won a football game. And they won a football game in large part, not just because Dak Prescott played at a high level and other guys that that are paid that way did, but because of I called him Jags the other day and that offended a few of you guys. That doesn’t mean Jag off. That means just a guy. J A G. He’s just a guy. But you give a Jag a chance and he does what some of these guys do. Okay, fine. There’s some good. There’s some bad for the people they might replace. And there’s some ugly for the people that maybe need to be replaced. Let’s do Ryan Florenoi. If you know, and we’re going to we’re working on a big project on him. Uh you will remember some of the stories when he first showed up here. you know, he he he went to a a skill in different schools, just trying to find his way uh to some degree, trying to find somebody to believe in him. And it finally happened to the point where he gets a cowboy uniform. And then on Sunday, it happened to the point where, hey, we we need him. Former six-round rookie. He gets six catches for 114 yards. He’s Dallas’s leading receiver. He looks like he understands what he’s supposed to do. Papa Savage reminds us, Uncle Fish Premium, he flashed his purse preseason. And don’t they all at wide receiver? It seems like it’s the easiest thing to do is to look good in preseason at a wide receiver. Now, is Fenoi is he CD Lamb? No. Is he Kamonte Turpin? No. Different different deal, different guy. Toddloo, fish, you gonna eat crow? I Yeah, I’ve already eaten it because I I did pick the Cowboys 28 to 27. Uh I I I I did not envision a blowout and I’m giving them full credit for a blowout, especially because they did it with guys like Ryan Fenoy. Troy Z points out good run blocker, too. Sanities, how about Fenoy over Tolbert? And now at this point, it’s not you don’t have to decide which one you’re going to keep. It’s not keep over to. It’s which one’s going to get the reps. CD Lamb still not going to be right this week at Carolina. I’m quite sure. We’ll monitor Turpin. There’s got to be room in the rotation for Florenoi. There’s got to be. And is that an indictment of Tolbert or is there something that Tolbert did wrong? No. Are we looking at the possibility that Tolbert’s got a higher ceiling or a lesser ceiling than Florenoi? Is that possible? If Florenoi has a higher ceiling than Tolbert, then this is a big week for him inside the Star. We hear you, Cat. Um, while we’re at it, let’s start throwing out some of these other names. James Houston, he’s not a kid. He was a scrap he scrap heap free agent. Couple years ago, he did some things in Detroit. He gets one and a half sacks in that game. He’s got three and a half sacks for the season. Last week before this game, Ilflu said, “Yeah, you know, maybe we should play him a little more.” And we all kind of responded like, “You’re you’re you’re soft pedaling this, right? you. There’s no maybe. He’s He’s not a promising pass rusher. He’s an effective one and a proven one. So, more snaps for James Houston. That seems inevitable to me. And then Shamar James and a lot of this happened. Well, we’ll we’ll get into the bad and ugly, but between Shamard James and Maris Leufa, I think a lot of us have looked at the Cowboys defense and said, you know, it’s not just the quarterbacks, and it’s not just the defensive ends. Uh the safeties need to be better, run stoppers need to be better, linebackers need to be better, and along comes those two guys uh as playmakers. Let’s get to the bad. Bree Hall did get his season high 113 yards. Rico Dael is licking his chops. Except as we will discuss tomorrow morning, Rico Dao might not even start this game. I appreciate that he buckle up Cowboys. I’m going to explain all that. Breakfast at Fish and East 8 a.m. tomorrow morning. Shamar James team high 15 tackles in on 15 tackles. his percentage on on doing the job. He’s missed one tackle this year. So, he’s been in on 25 of them and missed one. That’s really good. Chucky Joe Fish, I’m watching you from 36,000 ft somewhere over Montana. Hello. I appreciate it. Up there. So, I’m not trying to say that Shamar James and Maris Lufo are going to magically make the Cowboy defense good. I am saying this. Jack Sandborn, he he he knows the playbook, but he has not been effective. Santities points out Shamar James allowed some catches to get those tackles. Valid. Absolutely valid. The coaching staff this week on those two guys needs to make sure the first thing Do they completely understand what they’re supposed to do? Because I think, and this isn’t just linebackers, I think you’ve had about enough of busts in defensive coverages. If Shamar James gets beaten by a a pass catcher who’s just more elusive than him, fine. But I want I at least want guys standing in the right place. And we haven’t had that enough over the course of the first month of the season. Jangle Echo, $5 pitch in the super chat. I know that San Burn’s a dud. Shamar should pass him in the depth chart. And then here comes Agent Zero. And then out goes Kenneth Murray and Wany Thomas. He should be starting over Donovan Wilson when everybody’s healthy. These are good names. I I understand fully why the coaching staff wants to see more of them on Sunday and and and so let’s go through the process. Let the cake bake as we say. But privately right now as Cowboys coaches are talking 100%. They’re saying, “Okay, and by the way, ownership’s pro general manager is probably saying, okay, what about that guy? Why didn’t that guy play more? Is that what’s that guy’s issue? What’s wrong with him? What’s right with him?” Uh, the Jerry Jones middle finger thing, which we mentioned this morning, uh, we will have a video for you on that tonight, so stay tuned. It’s just the wrong finger is all it is. Quarter of a million dollar wrong finger. Lot of secondary miscues as part of the bad over the course of uh the first month. But Leo Foul helps make a big stand stopping the run when he forces the fumble. The only turnover of the game. Glad you benefited from it. Uh now Rico last week 26 yards on 23 carries in the Panthers win over the Dolphins. They’re not sure it’s possible that Chuba Huard’s going to be healthy. He’s got a calf and he’s back. And Chuba Hubard was the number one running back before. Maybe they platoon. Maybe it’s all Chuba again. We’ll see. But when Rico says they better buckle up, that goes for the Cowboys defense. no matter who’s playing running back and no matter what week they’re playing. The question is which they days are going to be allowed to buckle up. And I think most of us are who have watched the Cowboys for the first five weeks are pushing a little bit uh to to go upside higher ceiling. What’s Jack Sanborn’s ceiling? I think you know I I think Chicago saw his ceiling. that that’s as high as it goes. Does Leo Fowl have a higher ceiling than him? Definitely. Does Shemar James? Maybe. And then the point about Agent Zero is absolutely true. Uh plan to come back after Thanksgiving. And if he’s really right, then that’s a that adds a different dynamic component to the defense. Now to the ugly. The 13 players who were on the injury report going into the weekend. Four of them starting offensive lineman. And yet it didn’t matter. The ugliness is the injuries. Uh Shanheimer said, “I don’t think I’ve ever had that. Never seen, you know, he’s he’s only been around football for a million years where we got to replace four starting offensive linemen. We’re gonna monitor the health. I I just I thought Tyler Smith would play in that game. For him not to play means that knee was bothering him. I I’m gonna do it again here. He’s going to rub some dirt on it this week. I predict again. And and I think he’ll play uh at Carolina. Of course, I said that last week, too. There the the ugliness is that you lose that many guys. You really shouldn’t be, I’m not saying you can’t win. You really shouldn’t be effective and in sync on offense when you’ve got a brand new offensive line that’s never played together before, might never play together again. But it it is to the credit of those guys. And that’s where that the guy I’m going to single out is Nate Thomas. In preseason, you remember they were talking about when Nate Thomas if if we don’t have Gayton back, remember he had the injury. If Gayton isn’t able to come back quickly, Nate Thomas, he’ll play left tackle. And all of us were going diddly diddly dink who late round youngster. Um I think when when they go through their grades, he’s going to be and I don’t don’t tell me about Pro Football Focus’s grades. Boy, have they missed the boat here uh this week again doing an impossibly hard job. The Cowboys and I’m going to find out more about this Wednesday night. I’ll be inside the star for a special project Wednesday night. I will probably not have fish at 6 Wednesday night. We will have Brexit fishing tomorrow morning. I I think inside this building they’re going to start looking at Nate Thomas and and seeing that he he might be the sixth starter here. He might be good enough that and and for a while that we don’t have injury worse. And again, uh, Brock Hoffman has already proven that. TJ Bass, you can’t get around TJ Bass, his numbers are good. But James Houston off the scrap heap and then Nate Thomas, Florenoi, Leo Fao, and Shamar. Complete revelations all in one game because they just had to be. Stephen Jones on the radio saying, “I feel like we can be a playoff team.” Absolutely. That’s what we’re in this for. For this one time. Listen, the idea the idea that that they’re going to have these kind of guys go win enough games to be a playoff team. That’s lofty thinking. This collection of guys making a name for themselves, creating a job for themselves and creating a bridge. Son of John, Deck haters are sure quiet. Yeah, they are. creating a bridge to where you’ve got a healthy group of talent around Dak Prescott. That’s what these guys have done for the Cowboys one time. Now they got to do it again because for one week all these scrap heap guys and all these kids and all these who’s he and all these Jags in terms of being able to dream about the playoffs. One time they looked apart. Fish out.
