How Today’s HUGE NBA News Impacts The Philadelphia 76ers | Giannis Antetokounmpo To New York Knicks?

Could Yiannis Anttompo be headed to the New York Knicks sometime this season? Early this morning, Sham Shirani reported the Knicks and Bucks did discuss a Giannis trade this off seasonason. I’ll tell you what, if Giannis were to get traded to the Knicks, that’d be really, really bad news for the Sixers and for Philadelphia 76ers fans. Could it really happen though? We’ll get into everything that Shams had to report here on today’s show. But before we do, are you a true Sixers fan? I know last year was rough and a lot of fair weather fans jumped off the Sixers wagon. But if you are a true Sixers fan and you’re ready for the start of this season, show me, show the hype. Go down to the comments section, scroll to the right of the comment section. There is a new YouTube feature where you can hype the video. So, show me that you are a real Sixers fan. Hype the video and let’s get into today’s 76ers now. [Music] Giannis to New York. We’ve heard a lot of these Giannis Nicks rumors really the past several years, but it’s all been rumors, right? We haven’t heard any concrete details of any conversations happening or any trades being offered one way or another until this morning where according to Sham Shirania the Knicks and Bucks did engage in trade talks surrounding Giannis Antmpo and Shams also reported that the only team Giannis desired outside of Milwaukee in the offseason was the New York Knicks. Crazy to think that these Giannis trade rumors have even even gotten to this point considering the kind of player that he is. Now, let’s get to some more of what Shams had to say because I was surprised this came out early this morning. You might have missed it. I was shocked when I went through this story. The Bucks insisted to the Knicks that they preferred not to move Giannis, but those in Milwaukee believe New York did not make a strong enough offer to continue even discussing a trade. It’s unclear how the Bucks would have responded to an all-out chase by the Knicks. The multi-week process was described by one source with direct knowledge of the talks as an exclusive negotiating window. New York, for its part, believes the Bucks were never serious about entertaining a Giannis trade. The Knicks have had an eye on Giannis for the past couple of years under President Leon Rose. people in league circles, including some in New York, had believed since 2024 that Giannis would eventually want to come to the Knicks if he ever explored a trade. And then, of course, Shams added that the only team Giannis said he would want to go to if he did leave was the Knicks. And I know Shams said that they didn’t quite get to the point of true conversations with an offer being on the table from New York, but it seems like New York wasn’t quite to the point where they were making an all-in offer. If they did, could that deal have gotten done if they’re willing to offer a big package? And could that happen this season? To me, I’ve believed over the last few years that Giannis will stay in Milwaukee his whole career. I didn’t think he was really ever going to leave the Bucks and he was going to stay there and be one of those lifers. But it’s seeming more and more, especially over the past calendar year or so, that Giannis is going to end up leaving Milwaukee, possibly sooner rather than later. maybe even as soon as this year’s trade deadline if things go south for this Bucks team. And when you look at some of the things Giannis has said over the past few years and even as recently as media day, you can see why some of this stuff is really starting to boil up now. Giannis has said, quote, I want to be on a team that allows me and gives me a chance to win a championship. Is that this year’s Bucks team? I don’t really think so. Legacy is very important for me. You play to win. I don’t play to just be around and get paid. A lot of players in the NBA seems like they do just kind of hang around. They play, they just want to get paid. Giannis is all about his legacy. He wants to get paid. And just at media day, this happened what just a few weeks ago when we were at media day, the Bucks general manager and managing partner had said that he met with Giannis during the offseason in June or July discussing a meeting and telling Giannis and Giannis telling him that he wants to be in Milwaukee. And then at media day, Giannis said, “I don’t recall that meeting ever happening.” Pretty weird if you ask me. Seems like things aren’t the greatest between Giannis and the Bucks. And look, we know Giannis is very spent and and really focused on wanting to win another championship. Of course, he has one ring with the Bucks, but he wants to win more. Can he do that with this roster? Kevin Porter Jr., Gary Trent leading your back court. That’s not getting it done. Kyle Kosma, Miles Turner, and then a bench of guys like Cole Anthony and, you know, Bobby Portoris, solid players, but is that a roster that’s going to lead the Bucks to a championship? I don’t think so. As good as Giannis is, you need more pieces than just Giannis and some other solid players, right? You need depth. We’ve seen that. And Giannis is great. That is not a championship level team. So, I think it’s very likely Giannis could maybe ask out at the trade deadline this year, maybe in the offseason next year if things inev inevitably do go south. So, when you think about the Knicks, right, bringing them back into this and what a potential trade might look like, you know, obviously they’re going to have to give up one of their top tier players. I think that ends up being Carl Anthony Towns. Outside of that, I think they hold on to Brunson, OG Anobi, Miles Bridges, Mitchell Robinson. They probably add in a Miles McBride and then the Knicks have a decent amount of first round picks they can add. I think Milwaukee could be interested in something like that, especially if you have to remember New York’s the only place Janna said he wants to go. So the Bucks hand is really kind of forced. And now bringing this back in a little bit more towards the Sixers, right? And obviously this affects really every team in the league, especially in the East with a trade like this because the Bucks are a bad team even with Giannis. The Knicks are a good team without Giannis. Giannis is obviously one of the best players in the league. I don’t need to tell you how good he is. MVP, defensive player of the year, NBA Finals MVP, NBA champion, guy that can put up a triple double on on any given night, dominates on both ends of the floor. An absolute physical freak. They call him the Greek freak for a reason. The Knicks are already a really good team, but the Knicks are currently, as constructed, they’re an offensive juggernaut. They have a tremendous offensive basketball team, but their problem has been on the defensive end of the floor. If you can flip Carl Anthony Towns for Giannis, give up Miles McBride, maybe a young player like a Tyler Kick and however many first round picks you got and send him to the Bucks. A lineup of Jaylen Brunson, Muel Bridges, OG Anobi, Giannis, and Mitchell Robinson. One, I don’t know how you score on this starting five. I know obviously it’s more than just a starting five as we’ve seen over the past couple of years, but I don’t know how you score against these guys, especially Bridges and Anobi, Giannis, and Mitchell Robinson. and this offense, the twoman game with Jaylen Brunson and Giannis. It I it would just be hard to see how a lot of other constructed teams could beat this New York Knick next team, who again, they already are such a good squad. And obviously, if he does go to New York, that would change things for Philadelphia. Not just because the Knicks get a lot better, but I think it might have to change the way the Sixers operate and sort of what their ideal outlook might be for the next few years and the direction they might end up taking. And we’ll get to that here in just a moment. But before we get there, got to tell you guys about today’s presenting sponsor, and that is Prize Pick. You and I make decisions every day, but on prize picks, being right can get you paid. Don’t miss any of the excitement this football season on prize picks where it’s good to be right. I love using prize pick so much because it just gets you so much more invested in game days because you got some cheddar on the line and it really gets you excited for these games. And it’s super simple to play. All you do is pick more or less on at least two player stats. If you get your picks right, you can cash in. And another reason I love Price Picks, they have so many awesome features, including stacks. Price Pick is the only app that offers stacks, meaning you can pick the same player up to three times in the same lineup. So if you wanted to pick more on Jaylen Herz’s pass yards, rush yards, and touchdowns, you can pick all of that in the same lineup only on prize picks. Coming up in just a couple of days, Eagles taking on the Giants on Thursday night. These are the picks I’m rocking with. AJ Brown, I’m sticking with him through the struggles, more than a half rushing or receiving touchdown. Jake Elliot, less than one and a half field goals made. I think the Eagles score a bunch of touchdowns in this game against the Giants. And then Jackson Dart, Giants are going to going to be behind all day long, more than 30 and a half pass attempts. It’s as simple as that. So download the Prospects app today and use code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. That’s code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup prize picks. It’s good to be right. So as I was saying before that price picks break there. Look, if the Knicks do land Giannis onto TMPO, they obviously be a much better team. The Sixers might have to consider blowing things up, especially if this trade were to happen at the deadline. And look, I’m not one to say, “Oh man, the Knicks got this much better. Let’s just give up. Let’s just fold and let’s just look ahead towards next season, right? I’m not one to usually just give up like that.” Right? But you have to look at the reality of the situation for this Philadelphia 76ers team. We’ve been talking about them blowing it up for about a year now anyways. really ever since I guess the start of 2025 with all these injuries and the Paula George signing now looking great. Joel Embiid’s obviously older and injury-prone and he’s making a lot of money. We’ve been talking about the Sixers leaning into this youth movement of a Tyrese Maxi and a VJ Edgecomb and a Jared McCain, right? Some of these younger guys in the roster and going that direction. And if the Knicks get Giannis, it’s going to be very difficult for the Sixers squad to compete with that team. So maybe you usher in this new era of Sixers basketball sooner rather than later. You say, “You know what? The Knicks, man, they’re looking really, really good.” And maybe come trade deadline, unless the Sixers are really putting it together, which they could. I think maybe by the trade deadline, you say, “Let’s try to move off Embiid, move off Paul George, the Knicks can run the East for the next year or two. Let’s focus on this young core and let’s aim to be really good here in a couple of seasons when, you know, some of these Knicks players are getting older.” Now Daryl my I don’t think is the type of GM that would really be willing to do that. We know my he’s always star hunting and his job is on the line this year. Him and Nick Nurse they have to win games or else they could be gone after this season. So I don’t know and I don’t think he’d want to make some kind of big-time sell move at the deadline. But again if things don’t go well he could just be gone after this season. And so maybe by the end of the year if the Sixers don’t turn things around the Knicks end up getting Giannis. The Sixers go in a new direction. new GM, new head coach, maybe Nick Nurse is gone as well, and you do see Embiid going elsewhere, Paula George going elsewhere, and you really lead into your new young core. One of the reasons I like this direction so much, again, if things don’t go well this season, the Sixers don’t need a full-on rebuild, right? We’ve been through the years of the process, those early early years, 2013, 14, right? Like losing a bunch of games. This roster is not completely devoid of talent like that one was. You still have some really good young pieces already established on this roster. So, it’s not a full rebuild. It’s really a retool and a reset and a refocus on a new direction led by Tyrese Maxi. You just spent the third overall pick on VJ Edgecomb, Jared McCain on the roster as well. You have some other intriguing young pieces like an Autumn Bona, a Justin Edwards, right? You have young talent. So, you’re not just bottoming out and shelling out and going for the first overall pick every year. It’s just a little bit of a reset to get a new identity and a new focus for this organization. I I know, you know, me saying the Sixers might have to blow it all up just because the Knicks bring in Giannis, it sounds like some loser energy and it sounds like I have no faith in this team. I’ll tell you this, if you’ve been watching the show, you know that I do have confidence in this Sixers team this season. If Embiid can stay healthy, if Paul George can stay healthy, two big ifs, I really like the way this team is put together, and I think they can compete with pretty much any other team in the East, especially given all the injuries that have occurred to other teams this season. So, I do have a lot of confidence in this team, but I do believe in this team. But man, a Knicks team with Giannis, if they’re really only giving up cat, some bench pieces, and some picks, that is a really, really difficult team to see the Sixers matching up with, especially again given that people have already been talking about blowing this team up. So, that’s why I bring that up. We’ll see if it happens. Really does sound like Giannis could be on the move though, sooner rather than later. What say you? Do you agree with me? Do you disagree? Let me know. If the Knicks were to land Giannis this season, would you want the Sixers to just say, “You know what? Let’s just blow it all up, trade away our guys, and focus on the younger core.” Give me a yes, give me a no down in the comment section. As always, don’t forget to subscribe.
