Minnesota Vikings News Dump (10.8.25) | Vikes 7-Seed, Thielen Shades NORV, Greenard Soon

What’s going on, Jeromes? Happy Wednesday. Uh, it is indeed a beautiful day. Birds are chirping and stuff. It’s time for another Vikings news dump from an undisclosed location. People here judging me now. Uh, but the by-week is upon us. And the Vikings, they got some questions. So, first off, we have no idea what this team is going to be, right? because all the injuries, so many minations, 10 offensive linemen playing snaps for the Vikings so far, you genuinely do not know what this team is going to be and notably what’s going to happen at the quarterback position because frankly uh outside of Wentz against the Browns, neither quarterback has really had any good protection where Carson Wentz’s been sacked 12 times, JJ McCarthy got sacked nine times, nine times in two games. Uh, so it’s going to shake out how it shakes out. And I think right now, and both of them are banged up, you know, JJ McCarthy on the men from the high ankle sprain, Carson Wentz with the shoulder as well as the ribs. I mean, when a quarterback can’t golf on a Tuesday, somewhere Kurt Cousins is shedding a tear, right? But, you know, the fact that Wentz couldn’t even golf last Tuesday, uh, when the Vikings were in London getting ready for the Browns kind of says a lot, right? But Vikes fan page, uh, Vikings quarterback talk per Bengling strip. I don’t look at this uh I don’t look at this ha as a horse race. Uh this season is still figuring out what you have in JJ McCarthy. I think it’s more about when he when he JJ McCarthy uh is healthy and ready to do everything you want him to do then sort of this is where he’s going to stack up in comparison to Carson Wentz. So basically our decision comes down to this and we said this a bunch. Can you win a Super Bowl Carson Wentz this year? If yes, start once. If no, JJ McCarthy show because not not only are these games valuable, but you do have that Super Bowl window with JJ McCarthy on his rookie deal where he can stack up uh an amazing steadly team around him. And you look at it this way, like th this is essentially his rookie season, you know, first year as a starter. And you look at what Drake May is doing now. I mean, Caleb Williams allegedly playing well. You know, Jaden Daniels probably had the best rookie season of all time. Uh, but so did CJ Strad a couple years ago. How’d that work out? Nah. Uh, you look at Bo Knicks, like these guys have to play to get better. And everyone’s swiping at JJ McCarthy. He’s like, well, I’ve seen enough in two games. No, you haven’t. No, you have not. And also, let’s not discount that FU comeback against the Bears. I feel feel like that is really demonstrative of what he’s going to be. Also, all right, so say you go with Wentz. Do you resign him or no? Right. and you’re basically back at square one with JJ McCarthy. And I I know people bring up the Aaron Rogers and Jordan Love comparisons. I feel like that’s antiquated, right? The the whole notion of a quarterback sitting three, four years for his shot, that’s out the window, right? Especially with teams that are built around the quarterback when healthy, knocking on all the wood like the Vikings. You start your quarterback, you have him learn on the job, you get out the gates fast, and you win now, right? And also, Jordan Love is a bad comparison because Jordan Love sucks ass. Thank you. Yeah. Uh, also I it’s going to see what what shakes out during the by-week. JJ McCarthy reportedly is going to have extensive work during the buy hopefully with Addison and Carson Wentz. I’m actually concerned about Carson Wentz. Like if McCarthy is not ready, I don’t know if if Wentz is going to be ready because with the shoulder, with the ribs, with everything. I don’t know. Plus, we’re probably not going to get any news about it because there’s no injury reports. And if they do put Wentz on IR, they can just wait until right before the Eagles game because it still affects the same number of games because remember, you miss games, not weeks. Could it be the bro show? Why the hell not at this point? Yeah. Also, at this point, if the season ended now, uh the Vikings will be in the playoffs as a 7C wild card on the road against the San Francisco 49ers. M. Jones who uh then you have the Bucks at three seed hosted in Seattle with the six uh the Lions and the Packers allegedly 5-4 respectively. Philly at one paper champions uh on the AFC Danny Dimes Vanilla Vic was never going to resign here because he saw a clear opportunity to start in Indie. Uh Colts have have the one seat. What year is this? Is this like prime Pton Manning happening again? The Bills are a two would host the Patriots again getting it on. Then you have the P uh the Steelers, whatever, hosting the Broncos. And then the Chargers, the really banged up Chargers, uh hosting the Jacksonville Jaguars do fall. The Chiefs are out of the playoffs. The Ravens are out of the playoffs. Crazy. I love it, man. It’s good stuff. All right. And the Vikings. So from KI, 33% chance to make the playoffs one time in three. We’ll take that. We We’ll take that right now. or even though the Viking schedule gets tough, the Vikings getting healthy, Vikings getting dangerous and everything in the offseason that we thought this team could be, they’re going to be and the next four games, Vikings fan page, uh, fill in the blank. The Vikings win blank number of their next four games. So, let’s break it down game by game. Eagles are banged up and they do have a many biases to playing Thursday Night Football. See what happens with Saquon. Jaylen Herz literally cannot throw the ball vertically, right? And yes, the the run game has been the Vikings Achilles heel as of late, but Cashman could be back. AVG potentially. So, we’ll see. Well, AVG, I’m I’m pretty concerned about AVG, but we’ll see. Uh, so the Eagles game at home and the Vikings, specifically the offensive line, getting healthy at the right time. Let’s go. Short week out out against the Chargers. Chargers having some health problems of their own. They just benched their center. They’re out down Rashan Slater. Joe Alt has been out. Omari Hampton’s on IR. Uh they traded away Gilman. So Adafia away is going to be on their defense. We’ll talk about that in a sec. But the Chargers can get got like Chargers are still a good football team except they can get got. Then you have the mini buy and then you’re at Detroit. St. Detroit, man. The Super Bowl where I’m still not buying Detroit’s brand. Like yeah, they can put up all that stick against bad teams. It’s fine. But let’s see it. Bring it on. Unfinished business. And they got Baltimore. Whatever. Well, never take a team lightly, but the Ravens just seem like they’re imploding like a dying star and they’re going to go supernova and that they’re having a fire sale, which, you know, we’ll talk about here in a sec. Also, power rankings over at ESPN, the worldwide bleeder of readers, viewers, and subscribers. Vikings at 16, up one spot. Wow. The Vikings earned a split on their twoame British Isles jaunt with Carson Wentz turning in a gutsy effort. Damn straight. And a potentially season saving one against the Browns. They hit the buy at three and two and since 199 teams with that recommend the playoffs 50.3% of the time compared to 22.3% for two and three teams. That’s a heck of a lot better postseason outlook than I imagine the Vikings would have even a few weeks ago. Wow. Eric atome manifel.com. Wow. Fumbling and a miss field goal in the fourth quarter is not the ideal path to victory, but once made some big throws late and Justin Jefferson took over when called upon. Jordanison also responded to his benching to catching three straight passes, including the go-ahehead score. In the fourth quarter, Minnesota can still be dangerous even if there’s plenty of work to do. Absolutely, there is. Run defense need to work on ball security, big deal. Uh no cables from spider cams in the way of will the throw. It’s a couple things to work on. Also, so a sign that the Vikings offensive line is starting to get healthy. Uh Vikings, the Vikings are released tackle Matt Wallet from the practice squad. So, the uh oh, let’s go. The pride of North Dakota, the pride of Cold Spring, Minnesota. He got one. But hell, he could be back. Who knows? But it’s probably more to free up a spot to bring Verson Lee back onto the practice squad after he’s released from the 53. But also, it’s a sign that the Vikings offensive line, thank God, is going to get healthy. Also, another good sign here. Uh, so the Vikings did up a piece, you know, talking about the Vikings Browns and specifically the offensive line, our guy Shawn Borman. Justin School matched up with Miles Garrett 14th time Sunday and gave up no pressures. So, props to Justin School. Still was dinged for three pressures and a sack in that game, but fought the good fight. And also, mamas don’t let your babies grow up to be offensive linemen. They should be Dlinemen because think about offensive linemen. If you succeed 97% of the time, you’re average. If you succeed 94% of the time, you suck balls and should start learning Chinese. I mean, that’s that’s messed up, isn’t it? And if you’re an a pass rusher, oh, all right. So, edge rusher, like, if you get pressured like 14% of the time, you’re elite. And defensive interior 10% of the time, you’re elite. And if you make one play per game, you’re going to get paid $40 million a year. Isn’t that crazy? Yeah. Uh, but like I said, I don’t know. Like my my two boys probably won’t play football, but if they did, I’d want them to be offensive linemen because there’s just something so cerebral about them. Although they get no respect. Who am I kidding? My kids are going to be like 5’6, so who cares? Maybe they’ll be the kicker. Uh purple persuasion. Oh, speaking of edge rushers, despite only having one sack through five games, Vikings offensive outside linebacker Jonathan Gernard has 24 pressures per PFF. Bernard’s 24 pressures, tied for eighth in the NFL of the 98 total of 98 edge players. Diamond Dallas Turner, one sack is ranked tied for 42nd with with 12 pressures. And it’s been interesting watching back uh Diamond Dallas Turner’s tape over the last couple of games where he’s basically playing the Andrew Vano role. And I feel I feel like that’s what Flores is preparing him to be where, you know, Gernard’s Gernard and it’d be great to have a multiple Gernards, but especially the dedication of putting in the time of having Turner learn coverage last year and also this year, I I feel like they’re turning him to a hybrid edge rusher, outside lineback or offball linebacker. And Grard, you know, we talk about pressures and sacks, right? So sacks, there’s definitely an element of puck luck. There’s probably probably about five, six sacks this season that other Vikings defenders have had that Granard has set up where he moves the quarterback off the spot right into the loving arms of the other defense defense player, right? And you talk about pressures are more important than sacks because if you have pressures, you you’ll get sacks, right? And you could be lucky. You could get 12 sacks off of 12 pressures, but you’re probably not. You could have 87 pressures and get four sacks. It kind of is what it is, but it’s it’s going to come. It’s going to be perfectly fine for Jonathan Gernard also. So, I I love the NFL trade deadline because, you know, it isn’t as active as NBA or baseball trade deadline, but that’s some good moves. So, Jake Browning, you never should have cut me while we’re benching you. How about that? Uh, so the the Bengals are just trying to do something to shuffle the deck chairs in the Titanic until Joe Burrow gets back. Uh, traded for Jump and Joe Flacco who got benched for Dylan Gabriel. Also, hey, I I love the ESPN NFL network is like, “Oh, Shador Sanders number two in Cleveland now. Shut up. Shut up.” But, uh, Joe Flacco, I don’t know. He could have been back up for the Vikings, man. Hey, you could have had Carson Winston job. Who knows? But, you know, Flaco just dropping piss missiles downfield to Chase and Higgins. Why not? Although, Cincy should have traded for Jameus Winston. Come on, man. Come on. Also in the trade market, uh, the Ravens, Ravens are basically just tanking. All right. So, Adaf, uh, solid edge rusher. Uh, so they trade him before they have to pay him. Uh, traded to the Chargers for Aloha, uh, Aloy Gilman, really awesome safety where I don’t know what to make of this. I It could just be, you know, the Ravens shedding a player before they have to pay him. Sure. You know, Gilman is solid, but future- wise, like, what’s the plan here? So, I don’t know. And also, you know, the Ravens are solid at safety. I know that Hamilton’s been dinged up, but who knows. Uh, but also it’s important to note that the Vikings do play the charges here in a couple weeks and everyone’s kind of banged up. Sort of is what it is. But also, hey, if the Ravens are just trying to uh tank and shed contracts, may may you interest us in our finest Tyler Linder Bombs, we’ll trade you a first and a fifth. And Jonathan Allen, why not? Uh, also, uh, yeah, two more. Uh, so this one’s good. Uh, Guardsy, best ever. Adam Thelen gives Norturn Turn of credit for starting his coffee habit. He needed some caffeine to get through 160 slides at Norv’s offensive meetings. Uh, so you see the before games. He’s always got the caribou coffee. He’s very on brand and all that stuff. And who taught Norf PowerPoint? That’s what I want to know. Also, uh, yeah, everything’s recorded. So, I I want footage of one of Norv’s offensive install meetings. I I I want to see that 160 page PowerPoint where uh Norv just out here, you know, talking about, well, our offensive line sucks, but I don’t know why. Southern. No, that’s more Kubak. Our offensive line sucks, but uh Teddy take a ninestep drop. Uh but we still give Nor credit because his kid discovers Stefanics or something like that. Yeah. Lastly, so uh a lot of fans had issues with ticketing uh before the Vikings Browns game over in London uh app crashing. See, seems like it’s ungood, right? Uh so Kevin Seafford ESPN, who’s not Carl Groman, not who’s not uh ticket master apologized and offer partial refund credits to NFL fans who had trouble entering Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday. And so Tottenham hasn’t had like major ticketing issues before. It seems like Ticket Master has like an issue every other month. Seems like it. Uh actually Burglan Vikings fan. Uh the worst entry to an event I’ve ever experienced. And you saw it on on the telecast. There was a few empty seats at the beginning of the game. But people still shuffling in, people still getting concessions, people still finding their seats, all that stuff. And just can’t h happen. Like a ticket master and these third party ticket sellers just completely gouge the hell out of the consumer. And upon all that, like you don’t even deliver a workable product. It’s ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. But it’s all right. Uh they offered refund credits. So they offered them 50% of the value of their ticket in a gift certificate. So you’re you’re not made whole. You you just have to use ticket master again. I mean the 50% of a premium ticket won’t even cover the fees. But it’s all right. Anyways, that’s it. That’s seven seed. So the Vikings beat the Niners. They beat the Eagles. Uh highest seed would be the Buccaneers for the s for the Super Bowl. Let’s go. Let’s go, man. Anyways, that’s it. A Vikings news up for this beautiful glorious Wednesday from undersclosed location. You guys the best you have to do. Skull production value.

  1. Ticketmaster sucks, we are going to a game and had to try for an hour to find seats cause the app wouldn’t let us by the tickets and then they’d get bought out from under us

  2. Play JJ!!!! We need to know if he is the guy or not. By end of year we will know if he just needs experience or if he's worth moving off of.

  3. Thanks to Andy & his wife for devoting some precious vacation time towards giving the PFTW gang their daily fix!👍 Here are a few of my own thoughts….
    1. When Justin Skule was "matched-up with Myles Garrett 14 times Sunday", was he matched-up alone, or did he have help from a TE or G?🤔
    2. Turner isn't at AVG's level yet, but he played even better on Sunday than in his previous game.👍
*3.In the worst-case scenario,* I'm sure that the Vikes could start 'the Bro-Show', against the Eagles, and…given that Wentz was able to perform well at the end of the Browns game…I'm sure Wentz would be healthy enough to step in if 'the Bro-Show' struggled & a change was absolutely necessary.
    4. I thought I'd never say something like this, but perhaps the NFL should take over the selling of tickets for ALL games, rather than forcing the fans to deal with a perpetually incompetent (corrupt?) company.
    5. Yes, the Ravens may be needing to clean house to some degree, so they can reset this off-season. One could certainly say the same thing with the Chiefs (Vikes fans>>>"Chris Jones, pretty please with cream & sugar on top!". lol)

  4. Put the young QB in. We need to know. We already know this won't be the year. Maybe a playoff if we can take the division or be in the wild card. Put JJ in and see what we got with a healthy OL

  5. Who's to say this team won't be like the 2011 Giants? Who's to say McCarthy won't gets us 14-3 again? Like a 0-33 comeback, it ain't over till its over. Enjoy the ride!
