Five Changes I Want To See The New York Jets Make

All [Music] right, guys. What’s going on? Welcome in. In this one, I almost wanted to do like rapid fire style changes that I would make. Changes that I would make right now with this New York Jets team. No, it’s not going to be, you know, stuff like firing Steve Wols, firing Aaron Glenn, but it’s just personnel decisions. It’s decisions on game day that I feel like, you know what, it what we’re seeing right now, it can’t get much worse. And again, rapid fire style. Uh, let’s dive into it. First order of business, let’s talk about something that the Jets just simply can’t figure out. Kick return, right? Kick return, punt return, hanging on to the football, not having these big time blunders. I mean, you look at where like most starting field position is is kicking off in 2025. It is so easy for offenses, right, compared to how it used to be where it was almost like starting at the 20 every every drive. I mean, you see how many drives do you see just start at midfield now. It it’s absolutely insane. The Jets have got to be able to take advantage of these new rules. I mean, we’ve had two games where special teams play has literally cost the Jets games. Pittsburgh and Miami. Now, I personally thought that Kane Inu was going to be healthy for this upcoming week, but I just read that he’s still off to the side working with trainers. He’s, you know, he’s still listed as a day-to-day player. Uh, which sucks because I really like what he was able to show, you know, preseason and whatnot, but for the time being, instead of doing this weird like Isaiah Williams signs to the practice squad, then he’s on the active roster. Forget Jamal Pritchette. Put Jamal Pritchette back there. He’s an undrafted free agent who a lot of Jets fans were excited about when the Jets initially signed him as an undrafted free agent. Known for his return skills, we saw those return skills on display in preeason. Again, it’s not getting worse. At this point, we’re just hoping that the guy doesn’t fumble. And yet, that is happening. So, for me, I’m giving the undrafted Fijian a chance. So, personally, that’s my game plan, right? If Ka can’t go, Pritchette’s in the game returning kicks. Boom. There it is. Case closed. We’ll see how he does. Moving on to wide receiver. Wide receiver has been absolutely horrible for this Jets team. Obviously, excluding Garrett Wilson, who is on an absolute tear this season. Man, is this guy explosive as hell, right? We all we already knew this, but Garrett just looks like he’s taken another step to his game. It’s unbelievable. But outside of Garrett again, it’s Lazard who is inactive again this week. Josh Reynolds has five catches for 47 yards on the season. Tyler Johnson has pretty much been ineffective up to this point. Um, for whatever reason, the Jets just don’t throw to Aryen Smith. I don’t know if that’s an Aryan Smith problem. I don’t know if that’s a Justin Fields problem. I don’t know if that’s a Tanner Instrand problem, but he’s just not utilized. So instead of giving all of these reps to, you know, the older veterans that I we just feel like, okay, we know who they are at this point, I’m activating Brandon Smith and Quinton Skinner. If you want to do maybe one this week and then see how he does and then, you know, reassess the following week. Okay, that’s understandable. Not only did both Skinner and Smith make plays in the preseason, in the case of Brandon Smith, I mean, this guy had over 100 yards in preeason in just the three games. You know, I’m looking at how they played. You know, they really attacked the football. They were really aggressive, right? Just overall physical players and they’re young and they have upsides. We know exactly who Lazard is. We know exactly who Josh Reynolds is. These players aren’t getting any better. They are not. And they’re clearly not helping the team out right now. As far as overall production is concerned in the passing game, Brandon Smith, Quinton Skinner, I’m not saying these guys are top 10 wide receivers in any category or anything like that. I’m not saying that, oh, these guys are the franchise wide receiver, too. No, but what they do bring to the table is youth, hunger, and a glimmer of hope that, hey, you know what? With more snaps, with more opportunities, they can get better. I mean, the bar is really not that high. I would rather give the snaps to the young, hungry players that showed something in preseason. By the way, you know, I like to think long term. I think NFL general managers need to be thinking long term. I think when GMs get caught up in like the shortsighted shortterm moves, they could run into problems down the road. You have to ask the question, what message does it send to the agents of these undrafted free agents that are coming in and proving something in camp/preeason? They’re playing a position that the Jets are completely thin at. They’re working hard and having an upside and yet they don’t get an opportunity. They don’t get an opportunity to be active on game day. And this goes for Pritchard as well. I mean, if you are that agent and when you have another client in the 2026 NFL draft class and you’re negotiating with maybe an undrafted client and they have an offer from the Jets and an offer from another team outside of money reasons, why in the world would that agent recommend his client signing with the Jets, he could be he’s literally witnessing players again at team needs, playing well, showing out in preseason, they don’t get an opportunity. They’re almost like they’re being held hostage. Now, I don’t want to make it sound like we have T. Higgins just randomly sitting on the bench and the Jets are like, you know, not smart enough to realize that. Obviously not. But, uh, the point is, if Brandon Smith gets activated to the roster and has no catches for no yards, that’s literally on par with what the Jets wide receivers are doing right now. So, for me, I’m letting the young guys play. We’re 0 and5. What we’re doing is currently not working. The veterans, we know who they are. They’re not giving us anything. I’m playing the young guys. and a stick on the offensive side of the football. I’m shaking things up. Not only would I be playing or getting these getting some of these younger players more involved, whether it’s Brandon Smith or Skinner or Pritchette, but also Galani Woods, but I’m not really liking what I’m seeing from Jeremy Ruckard. So, you know, of course, you can argue, okay, well, Rucker’s probably the better blocker than Galani Woods. That that’s totally fine. But is Woods going to be getting any better by just sitting on the bench and practicing with this team? I don’t know. I I I think, hey, he’s a 6’7 weapon. We’ve seen him produce at the NFL level before as a rookie. Let’s get him involved a little bit. Let’s I We all know Justin Fields likes to target the tight end position and Galani Woods with his size and catch radius that could be like like there’s a reason why the Jets picked him up here. Let’s get him in the game. Again, we are not a good football team. I would rather go down playing the young guys or guys with upsides as opposed to, you know, the players that either aren’t going to be here or veterans who we know who like exactly who they are. And it’s not just personnel offensively, right? For the offensive scheme, I really am getting Justin Fields outside of the pocket. I don’t understand why the Jets have not done this more. You know, you think about all the knocks, right? all the people that have, you know, came down on Justin Fields over these past uh really since the start of the season. He can’t process. He can’t process. He can’t process. Okay. Well, if that’s true, let’s take Justin Field and remove him from five offensive linemen, from a bunch of defensive linemen, from potential blitzers. Let’s remove him from the clutter. Let’s get him outside the pocket where literally no one is in front of him, no one is deterring his throw. The only thing he’s looking at is a half field read, wide receivers and DBs and tight ends and maybe a running back, but you guys know what I mean. It’s just pass catchers and pass defenders. It’s no offensive lineman. It’s no defensive lineman. So, in other words, the processing becomes a lot smoother. You’re simplifying it. You’re giving him half field read. And then you throw on top of it that Fields is a world class runner. So now if you have a guy like Fields outside of the pocket, not only can he throw it deep, not only can he throw it over the middle of the field, throw it short, right? And and like a lot of times in these uh you know roll outs where you’re only reading half the field, chances are there’s one or maybe two DBs, but there’s really that one primary DB that you’re looking at. He’s kind of in the middle, right? Is that DB going to come up and and try to close the gap on that on the um you know pass catcher closer to the line of scrimmage or is he going to sink backwards and try to cover uh the deep receiver right on the crosser whatever whatever it may be or even like the deep potential go route right and so it’s kind of like this cat-and- mouse game who’s going to bluff who’s going to show their hand first with the quarterback rolling out like actively on the move he’s just reading that DB if he sinks back he goes with the guy underneath and vice versa but if Fields can run. Now you throw this whole other element into the mix where you can really pick up some serious yardage where even if all the pass catchers are somehow covered, Fields could just take off and run up field. So that is just another big big element that I’m do I’m doing, right? The Jets don’t really have a ton of, you know, long developing play action plays. You know, I I think I’m going to be trying to to do that stuff a little bit more, but really the focus for me getting fields outside the pocket. Another thing offensively is speed, right? I I’m getting the play call in quickly. I’m getting up to the line quickly. I’m sapping the ball quickly, going more uptempo. I think this Jets offense has looked better in the third and fourth quarter compared to the first and second quarter when we take a look at the season from a macro perspective. And I I think when you have an an offense playing in rhythm in in a kind of quicker pace, there’s not as much thinking. It’s it’s more so you got to execute because you’re going fast. Now, I’m not saying every single drive or anything like that, but I do think it should be utilized a little bit more. Now, on the defensive side of the football, right, the the area where the most problems occur, I would say it’s the reason why the Jets are losing games. First order business, let’s talk about the secondary. Remove Michael Carter from the game. Insert Jarvis Brownley. Remove Tony Adams from the game. Insert Malachi Moore. If you want, you can get Isari Thomas more so in the mix, but you’re not really going to be in a position where you’re taking Gardner off the field much based off of what he’s being paid. And then, of course, with Brandon Stevens, you know, he’s performing right now as the best corner on this roster. He’s showing hustle. He’s flocking to the football. So, I don’t necessarily want to take him off of the field. I don’t want to move him over to safety because we’re getting the most consistent play from Stevens out of all of these guys. if Stephen starts to, you know, have some more mistakes and, you know, blow a couple plays and stuff. Okay, now, you know, obviously that’s more so inconsideration removing him. But, um, I I think we got to shake it up in the secondary, right? We have to get guys that are willing to tackle, willing to make plays, and quite frankly, what we’ve seen from Tony Adams, what we’ve seen from Michael Carter is just simply not good enough. Now, I want to make a, you know, a swap at free safety. I just don’t know if we have the personnel to do that. Um I I don’t think Cisco has performed as poorly as as you know those two players. Um but that that’s what I would do and the hope would be okay the middle of the field where the Jets are the most susceptible a massive section of the field to attack. I mean if this area is constantly being uncovered again Michael Carter virtually just unplayable up to this point by the way he’s hurt for this week. And then you know if you want to play like a lot of man coverage and you want to have this like drop down strong safety the robber in cover one and that player is not effective you know you are asking to be torched torched over the middle of the field. Throw on top of it the Jets are thin at linebacker. So yeah I want to make a change. Jarvis Brown Lee starting slot corner. Boom. No questions asked. Malachi Moore. Boom. He’s in a starting lineup. We don’t have to think about it. Uh yes he’s a younger player. Yes, there’s probably going to be mistakes along the way, but I would much much much rather have Malachi Moore be making these mistakes over Tony Adams, who again, we know who this player is. So, that’s the plan for the secondary, just a simple personal swap. It might sound, you know, super easy, but you know, again, you know, I don’t want to oversimplify it or anything, but that’s what I would do. That that’s what And again, assuming Brownley’s healthy, okay? I’m not playing this guy if he’s 90%, if he’s not good to go. But you guys know what I mean. I’m making I’m making changes in the secondary. It’s simply not good enough. And then with the defensive line, um I I think the big problem with this defensive line is pressure or lack of pressure on the quarterback. Uh primarily from the edge position, right? Tyler Baron has been ineffective, but hey, he’s a late round rookie. Braden McGregor has been ineffective. Michael Clemens ineffective. Will McDonald’s not really playing as much as I would like to see him. You know, I I don’t remember if this was idea or Solah’s idea, but what would happen if we took Q and not every play, not every drive, but we took Q and we plugged him at the end every once in a while, right? Obvious passing situations where they’re not going to flood Quinn’s way in the running game and just try to neutralize him. No, you take Quinn, you can put him at D. Again, these third and seven pluses. Will McDonald on the other side of the defensive line and then you’re rolling out Harrison Phillips and Jawan Briggs in the middle or if you want maybe more, you know, more so a pass rusher, you can put in Tufle on the inside there. Leonard Taylor as well, who I think deserves to be getting some more NFL action. So, defensively, you know, I’ve been impressed with Jawan Briggs. I think Harrison Phillips has just been as advertised, which is fine with me. And Quinnon is doing his thing. So, let’s utilize that, right? Let’s look at the pro the main problem of this defensive line and and and say, “Okay, what can we realistically do to to have success on the fly, not saying sign this player, sign this player, trade for this guy, but right now, what can we do?” We’ve seen Quinn line up at the end and have some success. We know by getting Quinnon on 101 matchups that instantly favors New York instantly. You’re putting two good defensive tackles on the field more in Braggs and Harrison. And then on the other side, you the hope is, okay, Will McDonald can win his one-on-one. So, I’m making some changes here, man. I I’m not just going to continue to do the same thing over and over. The Jets lose games, the Jets get blown out, and that it is what it is. Now, who knows? Maybe the Jets do the same exact thing and Tony Adams has a great day and the Jets win. Who knows? That’s what I’m hoping for. I hope I am dead wrong here. But until then, I need to actually see something to get behind. Right now, I like the Jets run blocking. I like the Jets running game. I like Garrett Wilson, what he’s been able to do in the passing game despite the deficiencies around him. But that’s pretty much it. That is pretty much it. So, anyway, let me know your thoughts down below in the comments section. Thanks so much for watching. I appreciate you guys. And as always, go Jets. [Music]

  1. The receivers should easily be GW, Arian, and Brandon Smith. I’m not convinced Reynolds is better than Brandon Smith lol. I also agree with them playing Jelani, he’s certainly better than Ruckert. Also probably provides more value than Beck.

  2. How did Malachi Corley NOT make this roster? Wasn't he known for "yards after catch" in college, he should have at least made roster as a kick returner.

  3. Unlike college which relies on top talent recruitment, the NFL is a coaching league. 32 jobs. The best coaches always win regardless of talent. When they have a QB, they win championships. Some coaches get the gift of an all time QB but are still not good enough coaches to get over the hump. It's always been a coaching league. Glenn is not even in the ballpark of being a good HC. Not sure if that will change.

  4. Doesn’t make sense why they aren’t trying Pritchett or Smith on the roster. Also Andrew beck scored a TD last week but I barely see him being used. Don’t get what the coaching staff is doing. Play the young guys more and see what we have in them. Go Jets ✈️

  5. I agree with the Brownlee & Moore take. Those guys if 100% healthy should be starting over MCII & Adams at this point.

The main thing for me, and i honestly dont know how you do it because its such a bang bang moment every game, but stop fumbling. The Jets defense isnt good enough to stop long drives, the Jets arent built to make huge comebacks, ans fumbles have cost us 2 games at least. Fields is at his best when he can initiate a play action. How do you fool teams on a play action? By having a successful run game and you have the most success hanging onto the ball after gaining yards. If you have a 20+ yard run but get the ball popped out and dont recover, that 20+ yards mean nothing. Again i dont think the Jets are the absolute worst team, no questions asked, because we are literally 3 plays away from being 3-2 and not 0-5, with 2 of those wins being against playoff teams. But if you constantly turn the ball over, youre going to lose. Again i dont know how you can fix it. Glenn tried a fumble drill the previous week and we still couldnt hang onto the ball. But if the Jets could just stop with the fumbling, i think we could look better. But the Brownlee & Moore take, 100% agree

  6. Fire the dc. And at this point we need to fire sale and recoup picks ill be sad to see hall go and i would even look to move sauce and the williams brothers. Id keep garrett wilson harder to find a true 1

  7. WR room STINKS because everyone aside from Garrett is an AG/Mougey GUY!!!
Lazard could've been cut or traded , but No….he was restructured & retained because Lazard is an "AG guy".
Other Mougey misses include garbage men Reynolds & Johnson. Another Mougey miss was the over drafted rookie who cant get on the field A. Smith.. an AG guy!
ALL of the "Mougey/ AG Guys" absolutely SUCK!
This regime is clownshoes 🤡 👞

  8. This is the worst coached jets team I’ve ever watched. And to add insult to injury, I’m still watching Lazard, Clemons, Adams playing on this team

  9. You know what the jets need!!! We need a proven old school person to run the organization and give them time to fix it stop with the hot names on the market

  10. T. Johnson is wasting a roster spot. Lazard is out. So hypothetically the wr lineup: 1. Wilson 2. Reynolds 3. Smith 4. Smith 5. Skinner. TE room: Mason, Woods, Beck [cut Ruck] Safety is tricky both Cisco and Oliver are mid. Why not play Clark who they were high on and combo him alongside Moore ?

  11. Okay so let me start by saying I agree we should play the young guys . I know it’s a different situation but we see it time and time again where rookies or young players don’t play. Again I get it’s different with the Jets considering how the WR room looks . I was looking at the lions when St Brown was drafted and he didn’t get playing time to half through the season and that’s when they let him loose . Which makes me question do you think they are waiting until later in the year to use these guys ?

Using fields in more play action again I agree . Do I think every drive no , I think they should definitely mix it in. It may help with get guys the ball like Arian Smith .

Lastly the I’ve loved the big front ideas since I heard Connor say it on Badlands . It think you have to try to simulate pressure the best way you can with the personnel we have .

    As always great video man

  12. Looks like the jets are all in on Aaron Glenn. Seems like this is gonna be a team that’s built over a couple years. Trade breece, try to land someone like cheetah at wr, draft a defensive stud in the secondary. Next season will have a different way of drafting in my opinion. Glenn is gonna ask for straight talent, not this gadget reaching bs that we’ve been wasting picks on.

  13. I’ve been pondering and I came to the conclusion that the players aren’t quiting on themselves, the fans or the coaches.. They are quitting on Woody Johnson

  14. The ownership should change the franchise name from Jets to a different name and should totally change the uniforms. This whole "Jets " identity thing is negative and has terrible karma. The "Jets" identity = misery, strangeness, and losing. This franchise must get away from the whole "Jets" identity immediately and completely.

  15. Hey Ian, great video. One of the only jets content creators that seems to have an ounce of optimism for the future. It’s a big reason why I watch all your videos. Keep up the great work man, hopefully we figure it out. Go Jets✈️

  16. Glenn isn’t the guy to turn this team around. I don’t blame the Jets for giving him a chance but I’ve seen all I need to at this point. He will be our next former coach in a season or two. The only hope is that they get a high pick & end up hitting the nail on the head at the QB position.

  17. This team needs an enema seriously, Wilkes is done, kaput, over, relic. He really needs to help with scouting talent or something. Engstrand is actually doing a good job, the turnovers, mental errors, is killing his shine. Because we move the ball.

  18. McDonald hasn't been effective which is strange. Michael Clemons, Tony adams, carter2,. Why did we aquire Phillips we have not gotten anything from him. Sauce looking like now that he's paid time to vacation

  19. You see Andy Reid do it for Mahomes hes always rolling out creating space where the DB has to commit to him and he dumps it to the open receiver for a serious gain.

  20. I think AG needs to take over play-calling duties on defense. Like you’ve said in other videos, it seems too vanilla and other teams aren’t fooled by what the jets are doing.

  21. They’re trying to run a West Coast zone run style of offense. It’s all timing, there should be no thinking after the snap. Decide who you’re throwing to based on the coverage you are given, snap the ball, drop back and throw. I now understand why Pittsburgh went back to Russell Wilson when he got healthy. Justin Fields has an internal clock that is slow as molasses. And because of that, he needs to stop thinking and trust the system. He already has quality receivers in Garrett and Mason. He just needs one more receiver to step up. Defense is another issue entirely.

  22. I love how us jets fans forget what a rebuild looks like even tho we do it every 4-5 years lmao.

Steve Wilks has called the right play in several key defensive plays this season; our guys miss the tackle. What we are watching is a supreme level of player ineptitude

  23. I can see the jets coaches having the same exact conversation you just had with us, I'm hoping, I have to believe AG has a plan B, plan A hasn't worked, time to see what actual talent you have on this Roster.maybe not the spot in In London, but I'm hoping we get to see the young players get a shot. There's always a hidden Gem out of the bunch , even if it's 1 surprise, I'll take it, as long as we know what this team is really about We've all heard the hype speech now it's time to bring strong coaching decisions into play.idk, I hope the coaching staff sits around and talk sense like this, if not we have a serious problem.

  24. being 0-5 has its benefits. and its freedom to try out new players in real situations. players we saw in pre season. let them at it. like you said we know the ceiling of lazard and reynolds. we could open something up with other players that no one in the league knows about.
our backs aren't up against the wall anymore our backs are through the wall! time for freedom and giving players a shot. start benching mercenaries on the time that dgaf and are only there for the $$. young and hungry players wanting a shot and maybe we can turn it around and start growing a roster with chemistry going into next season.
fucks my day up man. im in Australia and i get up at like 3-4am on a monday morning before work to watch 90% of the game. 0-5 got my mondays feeling even worse
