Zion Williamson & Trey Murphy Recap Win vs. Melbourne United

Okay, right to go. Coach Green just said that Tre is going to be running more pick and roll this year. Does that worry you or does that excite you? I don’t know what type of Whoa. From the gate. Gee. Uh, uh, no, it doesn’t worry me at all. Uh, he definitely made that jump last year in his game in terms of showcasing it. So, no, I’m not worried about it at all. Uh, I mean, you put on 40 a few times. A few times for sure. Yeah. No, I’m not worried about it at all. I support it. Thank you, bro. Zion, your first game back in a while. How did you feel physically out there tonight? I felt great. I felt great. Uh, it felt like as soon as I caught my second win, I was done for the night. Uh, but I had a great time. The fans were great. Uh, and it’s just it’s always great playing a game of basketball. What did you make of the we won chance at the end of the game? I’ve been saying it a lot. I I I feel embraced and I love it. I love it. Trey, Trey, what did you make of the whole spectacle of the whole night and the fans and how loud they were basically the whole time you’ve been here so far? No, it’s really cool. Like I’ve said before, I didn’t know we had this many fans in Australia. I didn’t know how much they love basketball here and it’s really a blessing. I’ve never been out here before. This is all very new to me and so they’ve just welcomed me and my team with open arms and I’m really thankful for that. I know there were the we won Zion chance, but when no when Melvin brought it to within four or five points at the end, did you think maybe I should go tap coach on the shoulder and get back in this game? Don’t worry. Uh yeah, I had I had a moment I was like, man, I don’t know if I can go back to the city like this, man. Uh ain’t the words you use now. Oh god. Uh yeah, for half a second. Uh, even Jose walked up and was like, you know, I think I might go in the game. But no, they handle business. Uh, you know, I got to give my respect to Melbourne United. They’re a great team. They played a great brand of basketball. And like I said, I just enjoyed being out there tonight. I don’t know what you know about Milton Doyle, but from what you saw tonight and maybe what you’ve seen of him in the past, what did you make what he did out there? Uh, he he played a great game. Uh, played 38 minutes. Uh, he didn’t ever look winded out there. uh he played a great pace, great leader for those guys. Uh a lot of respect for him. I got a question for both you guys. What message do you have for the young kids that you know see the NBA play here in B? Uh I would just say cherish it. I remember my first NBA game and how special it was for me and how it motivated me to, you know, keep working hard so so I could get to the NBA court. So um just remember these moments and, you know, cherish it for a lifetime. This is again But this is a moment that’s probably going to have a huge impact that we’ll see in five or 10 years in Australian basketball. So I guess how does that feel for you kids that will tell you five or 10 years? No, you you turn. It’s your turn this time. You said both of us. You can start off. Uh like I said, well for me my like one thing I love doing is impacting kids and you know giving inspiration kids giving back to kids. So, if there’s a kid out there that watched us play and was inspired and wanted to go work on their game, like I feel like I’ve done my job and, you know, I’ve, you know, used my platform for the right reasons. Yeah. What did he say? That was a great answer. Zion, what did you see from Dash Daniels tonight um out on that court? Uh, he was a very active defender. Uh, definitely made some offensive plays uh that I definitely liked from him. Uh, and I told him, uh, uh, I better see you in the NBA, uh, real soon. Trey, it’s a different style obviously here that Melbourne plays to what you used to. Is there anything you saw from them tonight that you kind of can take away with you when you head back to the NBA from them or from Melbourne? They move the ball very, very well. You can tell they’re a really well coached team and they just know how to play off of each other. It’s really cool seeing that, especially because I played against European teams at Rice when we went to Spain and their brand of basketball is just so different, but you can really appreciate because it’s just pure. So, big respect to their coach and then also the players on that team. For you obviously um just coming into the season trying to get back just fully healthy after last season. Um looking ahead after this, your first preseason game, what would a successful season look like for you this year? Uh just a completely healthy season and you know uh my mindset with it is just day by day game by game but a completely healthy season is what my goal is. Zion off the back of that can you take us inside the process of getting your body ready and you know really fit and right to endure an 82 game season. Uh I got to give a big shout out to uh Daniel Bo our trainer uh on the strength staff. Uh we did a lot of boxing workouts, a lot of football workouts, and uh we actually started it last year during my rehab if people paid attention. Uh and we just carried that momentum all through the summer. So what do you think of Tri Doc in the fast quarter? You want the truth or should I be a great teammate? No, give me No, tell me the truth. I want to hear what you got to say, too. Now, I mean, I’ve seen him do better. He could have he could have, you know, did the full windmill. He he he babyed it. He babyed it. But it was nice. What’ you say? Do you think I babyed it? I’m talking about the poster, not the window. The poster was nice. Hey, hey. Hey, the poster was nice. Hey, the poster was nice. Thanks, man. Thank you, Zion. How did you pull up physically from this? And do you feel like you’ll provide a similar level of output minutes-wise in Sunday’s game? Hopefully, they give me more minutes. Uh, you know, preseason, you know, I usually go through the same kind of routine. Uh, but I can’t help but be really excited to get momentum just to, you know, play in front of these fans. One more question. A question for the both of you. What’s one experience that you’ll take back home from here in Melbourne? Honestly, uh, just like Trey said earlier, how many Ps fans there are out here, I had no idea. And when I say this, I genuinely mean it from my heart. that that love is felt and is really appreciated. Yeah, I would say for me the open practice was, you know, really nice because just seeing all the kids like just smile and just be so happy and we had kids come on the court, shoot half court shots, like it it really put a a real smile on their face and I’m very thankful to be able to do that for for the kids and you know the other fans here. Thanks. You know what? There is one thing. This might be the best press conference room I’ve seen. No, really. No, for real. This is crazy.
