Do The Boston Celtics Have A HIDDEN GEM?
[Music] Why not my not? I’m making my claim right now. The Boston Celtics signed a hidden gem in the 2025 off seasonason in the form of Josh May not. We’re going to break down who this player is and how big of a factor he is going to play for your Boston Celtics this season. As we are finally here, folks, the preseason is finally here. Celtics play the Grizzlies tonight. I unfortunately will not be live for tonight’s ball game, but I’m going to bring you guys a video breaking it all down tomorrow. So, if you’re excited for Celtics basketball to return, prove it. Go down below, smash that thumbs up icon, and like today’s video because Josh might not, I think, is going to play a pretty big role for your seeds this year. Signed to a 2-year, $5 million contract with a team option in the second year. This could end up being highway robbery with how much and and and really how effective he is in winning basketball games for RC’s this year. 6’8, 200 200 lb, almost a 7 foot wingspan, my not and he’s just 22 years old. To be honest with you guys, he hasn’t flashed a ton uh as far as box score stats go in his NBA career to this point. Uh he’s playing behind a lot of talent in Minnesota playoff team for the past three seasons. and you know you just can never really find out a true carved out rotation role in Minnesota but he has talked about how much learning he has done there and you know talked about his time in Minnesota as as a learning experience and now he’s going to put all of that to use in Boston. Now, the with the preseason starting tonight, I do kind of want to look at his preseason stats here is he’s starred in in that with with in the preseason there’s a lot of open space and for a downhill attacker like Josh might not because that’s the player that he is. He’s an athlete. He gets downhill, got a good first step from the perimeter and can attack the rim. Tomahawk dunks flies above the basket. Like he is truly a highlight type of player and he’s been pretty good in the preseason before. He’s been a disruptor on defense as well. But we’re going to talk about his defensive impact specifically. He’s an excellent rim protector for his size given his athletic profile. 13 points per game last year. He got a pretty good opportunity for Minnesota in the preseason. 24 minutes a night over five games. Had five boards a night as well. Loves to crash the glass both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. And wasn’t uh afraid to let the three-point ball fly either. Eight of 16. And a nice stat to know is every six minutes that he played in regular season action last year, he actually launched a three uh during that time. So like he is not afraid to uh let it let it fly from outside either. I don’t think he’s going to be a uh necessarily polished offensive player. Is he going to be g giving guys size ups into, you know, mid-range jumpers a whole heck of a lot for the seeds this year? I I don’t think so. But he is going to play a role. And in signing with Boston this summer, Minot knew that he had to get somewhere where he could play. I mean, he shined in the preseason last year and then really never saw much of an opportunity in Minnesota’s regular season rotation. Now, with the uncertainty surrounding what Boston’s roster has this upcoming year with Jason Tatum and a lot of minutes to go around now at the wing position, he said, “Well, this is a golden opportunity for the Celtics.” And what have we heard throughout, you know, his this whole training camp process, all the media availabilities and all this stuff? The Celtics want to play fast. Well, Josh May not is absolutely conducive to that style of play. But getting back to this, he had to get somewhere where he could play because this is kind of his last shot. If you’re a guy who didn’t necessarily put up a ton of stats in your first three, four years in the league, then, you know, there’s not a great chance that you sign another contract in the NBA. It is come and go. There is a ton of talented basketball players on God’s green earth, and there are only so many spots for on NBA rosters. May not knew this is the last chance for him, and he spoke on that. Now, here’s what he had to say. I’d almost consider this the one and being his last chance in the league. I’m really excited about being here. I feel like it’s a great opportunity to impact winning, whatever that looks like. Desperation is a perfect word for it. I feel like every time I step on the court, man, it’s like do or die. At the end of the day though, I don’t want to use fear as my motivation. So, I’m just going to go out there and play desperate. Woo! That is music to my ears. I got to love a guy who’s playing like the rent is due because you know what for Josh might not it kind of is. He’s on this two-year deal with a team option. So if he doesn’t play a factor in Joe Mazula’s rotation this year and Boston doesn’t see a future for him on the team they can just cut him. There’s no guaranteed money on the second year of this contract. So, I love that he’s going out there and playing desperate. And people are taking notice of it in the Arback Center in and around the Celtics building, including the head coach, Joe Mazoula, who, you know, I’ve been hearing talk about this new play style for Boston is they were one of the slower teams pace-wise in the league over the last few seasons with a lot of veteran talent, good isolation halfcourt players. That’s not really where the Celtics identity this season. And with adding Josh Minat here, I think Joe Misoula has an idea of how much he wants to, you know, use and implement Josh May not into this new style of play. And specifically, he has expectations for Josh May. My not commented on he and Missoula’s relationship, saying this, he expects me to be the best and someone that takes pride in all areas of aggression, whether that be defense, rebounding, or not being afraid to take an open shot. And also as far as when he originally signed with the team and they they released some film and and all this stuff of uh Luca Garza and Josh Minat signing their contracts in Boston, he kept saying that he would run through a brick wall for Joe Mazula. He said he he kept commenting about how inspiring the Celtics head coach is and how, you know, whatever he needs him to do, he is going to go out there and do it. And and I I think that is a match made in heaven. A coach who, you know, has a brand of aggression and a warlike mentality. Well, Josh Mina’s kind of going to war to save his NBA career here. So, couldn’t be a better head coach and free agent signing addition here for Boston. Now, Missoula commented here directly on what might not is uh going to be capable of this year. He said he has to quickly learn the system, have an understanding of what the execution is, what his role is on the offensive end. Can you help us create advantages, whether it’s sprinting through transition, whether it’s screening, whether it’s offensive rebounding. I think clearly understanding what his role is and executing that at a high level of consistency and intensity. If there’s one thing we know about Joe Mazula, it’s how much intensity this guy has as a coach. And he wants that same thing to bleed through to Josh Mat here. He’s got a high rebound rate. I mean, like I said, he’s not going to be this guy who’s, you know, playing a bunch of isolation offense, ball dominant player for this. He’s going to be complimentary running along the baseline, catching lobs. I mean, I I watch a ton of this guy’s tape and he’s constantly a lob threat from, you know, running running from the dunker spot or in transition or, you know, just taking one dribble, two dribbles into the paint and just rising up and and slamming or laying it up over a defender. Like, he has those types of advantages to his game and I think it’s going to play right into the Celtics hand this upcoming season. And my not commented on that play style that’s going to be in in the Boston’s uh in Boston’s view this year. and he said essentially we just want to play fast and so aggressive that the other team just can’t keep up. And that was a comment about defense. He wants to speed teams up defensively. Then Joe Joe Missoula has talked about that as well as you know being a fast-paced team is not only an offensive definition. He said that’s what we want to have our identity as. And I’m trying to be one of the people that helps to push that identity. I play fast. I’m a runner. I feel like I might be the fastest on the team. Music to my ears. I love transition. I love playing fast. Love speeding people up. So definitely something I can easily find myself doing, contributing to this team. And like I kind of alluded to earlier, the way that Joe Mazula has talked about this roster and playing to this roster strength, it it feels like there’s been obvious subtext throughout all of his comments here throughout training camp and media day and all that stuff. Like he’s talking about Josh May not here. He loves the addition to this team. And the Celtics in general are going to have contributions from younger athletic more athletic players on the team this year. Jordan Walsh is going to play a factor. Nimas Kada is more of a rim running around the a rim lengthy big than you know maybe the some of the previous stretch big options that Boston has had before. So it’s going to be a different looking team. Anthony Simons an athletic guard who loves to get downhill. So Joe Mazula is talking about these types of players including Josh May not when he’s talking about speeding things up on the on both ends for the Boston Celtics this year. And like you guys should go seriously watch Josh May not highlights. It’s a treat. It’s absolutely fun. And there aren’t a ton. I I can’t believe Minnesota didn’t implement this guy more uh into their rotation because it’s a fun watch, man. You see him rising up, you know, swatting uh def attempts off of the glass, just pinning people off the glass at the rim. He’s rising up above the rim for for dunks down the lane, you know, rising up for alley finishes as well. Like he is a fun player to watch. And you couple that ability with, you know, the the mindset that he’s got coming into this season, I think the Celtics fans are in for a real treat. really looking forward to seeing how much he plays tonight and uh you know how much he’s going to play in the regular season as well. And that’s what I’m going to ask you guys right now. 19 and a half minutes per game for Josh May not this upcoming season. Type M for more, type L for less. You guys let me know what you guys think down in the comments section. I hope it’s more. Coming up next, I’m going to kind of, you know, talk about that and allude to some other people’s uh comments about what the Celtics rotation could look like to start at least the preseason here in 2025. How featureful Josh might not be? We’ll answer that question in just a moment. First though, get hooked up with some awesome Celtics hats. As gift giving season is approaching, hoodie season is approaching. You know, you’re going to want to look fresh this fall. So, pick up this corduroy one. What about this retro one with the color brim and the cream top? What about this khaki one? This one fits the fall vibes for sure. These are just my favorites. There’s so many more Celtics hats at this link right here, chatports.com/seltics. To get yours today, it’s chatports.com/seltics. That link is in the comments section and description of today’s video. I love this one with the Boston skyline in the background as well. Okay, so some people actually think that Josh might not isn’t only going to play a factor in Joe Mazol’s rotation. No, he’s going to get the first preseason start here in 2025. Bobby Manning of CLNS had this to say about it. He said, I think that they’re going to try some rim protection stuff with my not. I think they want to see how he fits in with some of the regulars and I think that they actually kind of, you know, view him as a potentially key cog to their defensive attack this year. So, look, they need to generate rim protection somehow and he has some of that in his game. So, I think my not actually will my start at the three next to White, Pritchard, Kada, and Brown on Wednesday. So, I I don’t hate that take. It’s a hot take. It’s a surprise start take from Manning there. Um Noah Dozel, his co-host there at CLNS, she said that, you know, I think the Celtics are going to go with a more traditional look, something with the the you know, the regulars that uh Mark Manning was alluding to there. And uh Peyton Pritchard, uh Sam Hower starting at the three along with Jaylen Brown, Derek White, and Nius Kada as well. That was the starting five that I projected on Celtics today a couple of days ago. Now, my whole take on that, uh what Manning said there, if if my not is going to play alongside those guys, I actually wouldn’t view him necessarily as a three. I know it’s the NBA. Basketball in itself is very positionless at this point, but I would project him to run more of a as a complimentary player like a maybe an Aaron Gordonesque role at the four more so than, you know, a perimeter isolation guy, a guy who’s operating, you know, above the break a whole heck of a lot as a small forward three. So, that’s kind of where I would have him placed, but I don’t hate to take by Manning here that he’s absolutely going to play a big role. and you know against a smaller Memphis Grizzlies team in the first preseason matchup here um it could make sense to include my not now speaking of the preseason here is the schedule as it stands right now Celtics starting this thing on the road in Memphis they’ll play tonight against the Grizzlies I don’t believe Zack Ed is going to play because that is what uh Manning was alluding to this being a smaller Grizzlies roster as it stands right now I guess Edy is hurt uh Raptors 10-10 they’re going to be playing on Friday in Toronto and then they uh wrap up the preseason with a game against the Cavs at home and the Raptors at home to wrap things up. And then the 76ers game, the the regular season opener on October 22nd. I cannot wait. I will be live for that game. I I think I’ll be live for one of those preseason games as well. So, make sure you are subscribed to the channel. Unfortunately, will not be tonight. We will have a video talking about it and breaking it all down on tomorrow’s show. So, subscribe youtube.com/seltics TV. We’ll see you in the next one. And as always, let’s go SE’s. [Music]

On my way to Memphis for the game. Live in north Alabama and am celtics fan for 65 years
Josh Minot and Luna Garza should have been starters in Minnesota. They may have won it all. Boston stole these guys and the Timberwolves will regret it. Need points Luka Garza. Need points Luka Garza. Say no more
Luka is a really fast paced player too!๐โ๏ธ#19
