Boston Celtics vs Memphis Grizzlies Full Game Highlights Oct 8, 2025 NBA Preseason TODAY
They have been assigned by the NBA. Ben Taylor in his 13th season refereed in the finals last year. Sean Corbin his 30th to stop play with the teams were going the wrong way. Yeah. Su Yash Meta on the on the dime right out of the gate in his sixth NBA season. So put 12 back up on the clock and we’ll start this all over again. Well, how about all 10 guys? All 10 guys went out there as if they didn’t warm up before the game, do layups at the baskets that they were going to go to to start. There are some things I just can’t explain. Chris Bucher with the screen. Jaylen Brown tracked by Jaylen Wells. Ball comes free. Shot clock down to four. Bush will try a three. Brick it. And the rebound to Santi Alama. Javon Small. Rizie is very eager to see what he can mean to this basketball team. Santi Dama missing with a three. Grizzlies coming off a loss to Detroit Monday night. 128 to 112. Grizzlies got off to a fantastic start leading by 18 after one quarter. And then the turnovers began to mount and things went sideways. Derek White off glass for the Celtics who went 61 and 21 a year ago. They were the best road team in the NBA last year at 33 and8. Well, interested to see what this new look Celtics team will be like as well as fouled on the three-point attempt from the corner because of all of the changes. Tatum out with the injuries. You move Porzingis, they move Drew Holiday, they don’t have the same roster that they have had the last couple of seasons. How do they adjust? What’s the style of play going to be? Because they were three-point heavy when they were the last couple seasons. Will they still be that same team or will they adopt a different style? Yeah, 53% of their field goal attempts last year were from three as you look at the Grizzlies bigs on the back line but all in street clothes. Grizzlies really struggled on the glass against Detroit. That last foul on Brown and Morant ponders his return. Wells goes three for three. Bridges would like to again get off to a good start in this basketball game but then sustain it throughout the basketball game. Xavier Tilman lost some weight in the off season we understand and uh they’re probably going to need him and rely on him a little bit more than they had in prior years as Buché a high flyer misses the running hook. A look ahead to Aldama Small on a two-way contract with the Grizzlies after an impressive summer league. Wells out of a double team. Topside Coward for three. That’s well off and lovering the rebound. Coward, good two-handed jam. His first basket as a Grizzly is an emphatic two-handed slam. What a beautiful job by Lling to get the offensive rebound first and foremost, but then does not hang out around the three-point line. Timely cut, nice pass. Those are the type finishes you would love to see from him throughout the season. And that has to feel good because after an 0 for seven night on Monday, wanted to see that first one go down and he took out a little bit of frustration. Jaylen Brown gets all to the rim and finishes. Jaylen Brown last season averaging 22 a game didn’t shoot the three ball at a high percentage but had his best year in terms of free throws attempted per game. Oh, pretty play. Lovering with the slam off the Alama setup. That’s something that Santi has done his entire career being able to take the two long steps and just create time for his teammates to cut and get themselves open. White who set a franchise record for three-point makes in a season last year. He made 265. Rattles that one down from long range to tie the game at seven. Wells a three. That’s off. The Grizzlies got very threeheavy in that Detroit game. Of their 88 shots against the Pistons, 49 were from deep, but Aldama great find. Yeah, a little hang time there by Santi allows Lovering to become open. [Music] White drives on small dump down. Hower very good three-point shooter Sam Hower team high 42% from beyond the arc last year. I think Hower doesn’t take a lot of time for him to get the shot off. Also, Celtics go up three on the Hower. Make Aldama in the lane with the hook and the hit. And Santi took a shot below the belt. No foul called, but he got the hoop. Nice decisive move there by Santi. It’s a big year for ADAM, I would say, as Brown rattles down another Celtics three. A big year, especially with the amount of bigs that are down at this point here. It’ll be huge for Santi because they’ll need for him to be as versatile. Foul there early on White. His love ring was going for the lob. But for Santi, they’ll need for him to be as versatile as he’s been, but the rebounding will be huge for this Grizzlies team, especially early in the season. Yeah, the Grizzlies understand they’re going to have to work around some absence of big guys early in the season. And a guy who could help also on a two-way contract, PJ Hall in for the first time tonight. PJ had 10 points Monday against the Pistons. Big body, good screener, played his collegiate basketball at Clemson. Was in the the Denver organization last year. Wells misses that three. And the Grizzlies who started I think nine of 11 in the first quarter from three on Monday night. 0 for four from distance so far tonight. White quick release and a rebound. And you can see the athleticism from Coward. He has the long arms and the ability to get up in the air and he’s going to have to chip in I think on the glass as well as the Grizzlies are going to have to rebound by committee. But they’re also going to have to figure out how to enforce the issue and force the pace going the other way because right now what has happened is they’re being forced to play half court basketball. And when you haven’t had the time together then it becomes a little bit more disjointed than if they were able to get out and play freely in the open court. Jordan Walsh into the game for the first time tonight again along with Luca Garza. Garza coming over from Minnesota after three seasons with the Timberwolves. Averaged three and a half points for Minnesota last year and no cornet with no Torzingis as a three goes down again there for Jaylen Brown. There there will be minutes for the bigs and Garza wanted to see if he can slide into one of those positions. So Boston has eight newcomers including Anthony Simons have really revamped this roster as they try to deal with life without Jason Tatum Hall missing in tight and a big part of that dealing just weighing three doesn’t go down a big part of those decisions also part of financial decisions. Hower another three and the Grizzlies will take a timeout as they go down 10 early. It is a typical Boston. We’ve never seen it. It It’s only been a few games and Celtics force a turnover right out of the timeout. John Kai in for the first time tonight along with Gigi Jackson and Cam Spencer. Derek White misses the three and the rebound falls to Cam Spencer. Spencer with nine points including a couple of threes the other night and GI Jackson misses from three. Kchar offensive rebound. Here’s a Spencer three. That’s through. Dam Spencer in 25 NBA games last year, shot 36% from beyond the ark, did not play in the playoffs. He was on a two-way contract and therefore ineligible to participate in the first round series against Oklahoma City. Brown elevates and draws a shooting foul, says Shan Corbin. I think for the Grizzlies, as this preseason goes along, the possessions is something that I think coach Iselo will continue to watch. And by that, you mean pushing the basketball on one end, but Brown to the line. Bacon show you take care of the ball also on their offensive end. Offensive rebounding here early has helped him. Brown shoots too. We check in with Rob. Well, Grizzly’s newcomer Ty Jerome, a veteran who he’s talking a lot during that last time out. And he’s a guy who has seen the Celtics more than a lot of these Grizzlies have. He said, “You got to make them put the ball on the floor, especially Hower.” He said, “You’ve got to get Hower to put it on the floor any chance you get.” We’ve seen the Celtics do this time and time again. nine three-pointers already just halfway here through the first quarter. They’re five of nine from deep. Second free throw miss. PJ Hall with a rebound. And just like last year, you can’t get dejected by the threes because they’re going to take them. They’re going to make them, but they’re also going to go through spurts where they’re not making them. Wells and the Grizzlies got another three-point made. Well, when Boston was here on March 31st, they shot 60 plus threes in the game here in Memphis, they got the win in that game, and they relied heavily on the three ball. Brown, a fadeaway, puts it in. I think Jaylen Brown’s ready for the regular season. I think what Jaylen Brown’s going to show is going to show this season is that he can be a player that carries a basketball team. is we’re seeing here in this first quarter, an array of scoring from him, whether it is behind the arc or in the mid-range. More involved in the offense, much more aggressive, averaged, five free throw attempts per game. That was a career-high number for him. GI Jackson down the lane. Tough contest by Garza and GI able to put it in off glass and the Grizzlies are within five. Good job there by GI to not settle as Jaylen Brown had a little heat check on that step back. But Gi Jackson forcing to put it on the deck. Kchar straight line drive flares it out. A GG3 and the rebound of Jordan Walsh. I like those. Those are the threes that you live. If they go down, you take it. If it doesn’t, but the drive that set it up. Derek White. Grizzlies get a deflection but can’t steal it. It stays with Boston and kick ball. Shot clock to 14. Jaylen Wells out. Mitch Williams Jr. in for the Grizzlies with 454 remaining in the first quarter. [Music] Grizzlies had issues because of their lack of bigs with rim protection against Detroit. Garza and the foul on Kchar. Luca Garza, it’s a big body, good screener, good offensive game. Never really got a chance to show very much of it in Minnesota. I think there’s going to be an opportunity for him in Boston because, as you said, a lot of guys leaving Celtic Green and that was a because of Hower’s prowess from the three-point line. You get two defenders to jump towards him coming off the screen. Nice job by Garza sliding to the basket and because they cleared the side, there was no help. They’re able to come from the corner. They had to come from the other side. There’s a foul as you see Jason Tatum who will be back next season for this Celtics team. Vince Williams Jr. well off with the three. Lovering deflected it off of Garza. So the Grizzlies get it back with 11 on the shot clock. Three-point shooting for the Grizzlies tonight. Two of nine. Good hustle though by Lovering. He’s kept a couple balls alive to give the Grizzlies another possession. Spencer in traffic. Corkcrews a shot up toward the rim and draws a foul. Well, you talk about loss and lover. He’s a guy on a camp deal and this is an opportunity for him to have some NBA minutes and see if a G-League team or an NBA team might be ready to take him on. Yeah, we always talk about in camp there there different situations for different players. There are certain guys who already have a deal, you know, will be on the team, just trying to figure out what their role will be on the team. And then you have others who sign camp deals so that you are exposed not just to the organization that you’re playing for, but to all of the other teams that will be watching, scouting, trying to see what they can do to fill some some holes within their roster. So, these are these are big moments for all guys that are on the floor. Spencer misses the second free throw and Boston with the basketball. Jaylen Brown has said this has been the hardest camp physically of his career. Boston defensively had been over the last couple of years, we’ll defend without fouling. We’ll contest jump shots, but we’re not going to get overly physical with you. Brown with a pull up, a miss, boarded by GI Jackson. This year, they want to be more physical, and they’re they’re okay with giving up some free throw attempts. fast by the Celtics. You know, they they were going to have to have some adjustments because they were it was a heavy offensive team. That is what helped their defense. So, this season, they may have to be a better defensive team to also help their offense. Lovering lost the dribble. Got it to Spencer. Shot clock at 10. Vince drives. Ded floater back iron. blumbering offensive rebound. A Kard triple that’s off and Dar runs it down in the corner. No communication is Walsh was able to get behind the Grizzlies defensively for easy two. Walsh in his second season out of Arkansas. They really like Jordan Walsh and a lot of the moves that they made was to allow more room for some of their young guys to get more minutes. Walls, one of the young guys that will get those minutes. Gi Jackson has his pocket picked. Derek White, one of the best defensive guards in the NBA. He’s known for blocking shots. He’s also known for making threes. Not that time. Three minutes remaining. First quarter. Spencer drives, hangs off glass and in for Cam Spencer, who averaged 18 a game in the two summer leagues for the Grizzlies. Brown against Vince Williams Jr. Vince could not get himself set defensively and commits the foul. Timeout on the floor. Celtics by seven. Two and 53 remaining in the first quarter. Celtics fifth. Some leadership on those teams. Well, when you talk about the impact of Jason Tatum on the Celtics a year ago as Brown makes the first. He led the team in scoring in 42 games, rebounding in 37 games, assist in 38 games. He finished sixth in the league in scoring. He scored 20% of Boston’s points a year ago. And you can make the argument if the Achilles doesn’t go maybe maybe they’re going to the NBA finals. Well, the thing with Jason Tatum was he he has just continued to mature every year. Since going to the Celtics, a lot has been put on his shoulders and he has just continued to bear the brunt of it. And then they have started to just the success has continued to come and come and a lot of it because of him. Javon Small back on the floor. Aldama also back on the floor. Olivier Maxense Prosper or as everybody calls him Omax along with Braxton Key. A small three is off the back iron. It’s run down by Aldama [Music] really good athleticism up under and drew a foul from Jordan Walsh. He’s allowed to play one-on-one Prosper to be able to back Walsh down. And then a good job with the ball fake to get him up in the air. You’ll see right here the spin the ball fake there up in the air that gets the foul and two free throws to was originally drafted by Sacramento out of Marquette then was traded to Dallas. Knocks down the first free throw. Ax 0 for six Monday against Detroit. One of two from the line. I thought we talked about the the lineups that were there was a lot of mixing and matching of lineups and then you got to give a lot of credit to Detroit in that basketball game because they turned up the physicality on the defensive side. They slowed the Grizzlies down after that first quarter and dominated the game for the next three quarters. Another thing about shout out Canada. We going we got to keep us a Canadian especially until BC gets back. Brown his three off but nobody checking on the offensive glass. Josh Min who knows this building very well is a former Memphis Tiger with the follow flush. Also another one of former Timberwolf Prosper. No Baylor Shyman in for the first time tonight. They really like him out of Kraton. Showed flashes of promise last year. Another one of the guys that can stretch the floor for them is Jaylen Brown. Gets to the basket, a foul, Vince Williams. Now, like I said, Brown a year ago averaged five free throw attempts per game. That was a careerhigh for him. This will be attempts five and six here in the first quarter. Already 13 points on his ledger. when you talked about how how much of his scoring is done individually. It is not and a lot of that’s because he’s not a standstill jump shooter as much and so a lot of the time anytime the ball is swung to him then he goes into create mode. It’s not a catch and shoot scenario. So he has been very good but because of it he gets himself to the free throw line. He’s an efficient free throw shooter and he’s found a way to be able to play alongside another star but still be able to play his game. That two highscoring stars have coexisted brilliantly in Boston. I think that they’re both unselfish stars. Hey, former Boston Celtic, former Grizzly, former Grizzly Tony Allen. Small bails out of the jump shot. Prosper drew a foul and will go to the free throw line on a Jaylen Brown foul. The theme partner in these first this throughout the first game and then through this first quarter, we have not been a we haven’t been able to see fast break opportunities for this Grizzly team. And I know that they talked about wanting to play with the pace and speed kills, but because they are a smaller team at this point with the amount of bigs that are hurt, they don’t have the opportunity to cleanly defensive rebound. But the other thing is they’re not forcing any turnovers. And so when you don’t force the turnovers, you don’t get clean rebounds, then you can’t use the speed kills mantra because now you’re not able to push the ball up and down, right? and Boston last year. Second fewest turnovers per game in the NBA, but right around 12. They have produced a clean sheet as it were here in the first quarter. No turnovers for Boston. Minot on the weave against Prosper. Lays it up and lays it in. Josh Min [Music] lead is 12, largest for Boston. We’re in the final minute of the first quarter. Small with 10 to shoot. Exchanges with Aldama. Aldama against Shyman. Back door cut. Ball loose. Prosper. Hand grenade for Aldama. Got it to the rim. [Applause] The Grizzlies just 33% from the floor here in the first quarter and down a dozen. Xavier Tilman back on the floor for Boston. Brown is going the entire way for Boston. Finds May not for an open three. The Grizz get the last shot here in the first quarter. Shot clock is off. Boston out of fouls to give. Small a wideopen three. Give the Celtics a chance. Walsh from beyond midcourt. And that will bring an end to the first quarter. 3523 Boston with the advantage.
