🚨REPORT: Utah Jazz “VERY OPEN” To Trading Lauri Markkanen! 76ers Rumors On A Lauri Markkanen Trade

[Music] Welcome in to today’s 76ers. Now, Jake Chipper here with you. And coming up on the show, the Utah Jazz are more open than they ever have been to trading all-star Lorie Markining. Could the Sixers swing a trade for him this season? And on the back half of today’s show, we’ll look at some intriguing numbers and statistics from this Sixers team last year to give us a look at where they can improve heading into this season on the court. Of course, injuries a big deal as well. Let’s get right in to the report from Chris Manx of Sports Illustrated on Lorie Markin and the Jazz. Markin is the name I hear most frequently when talking about trade rumors. Utah passed on an offer from Golden State for marketing in the summer of 2024 believing a stronger market would materialize. It did not. And right now there’s a belief that the Jazz are very open for business on their 28-year-old ex allstar. Key words there. They passed an offer from Golden State. Now his value is lower than it was when they passed on that offer. So, it’s going to take less for the Sixers to potentially trade for Lori Markin. And they are very open for business. That is a big deal here because the Utah Jazz are a team that really value their own players, especially their good players like Lori Markin. And now that value might be dropping just a little bit for a guy that look at 7 foot, 244 pounds, was an all-star just a couple of years ago, really does fit what this Sixers team could use. And we’ve been talking about a Lori Markin and trade for quite a while now because I believe he is that perfect piece to fill in on this team now. You could see last couple of years not quite as good as his first season in Utah when he was averaging 25 a game shooting 40% from three and was that allar, but he still has that in him, right? And if he gets on a a winning team where he can show off that skill set, get some better shots, I think those numbers can look even better, especially efficiency wise from last season. He does have to stay healthy. hasn’t always quite been there on the floor, but also playing for Utah to get to the end of the year. They don’t really need him out there. He kind of has these phantom injuries. Now, he has a very big contract and it’s definitely more than you’d be willing to pay for somebody of Lor’s skill set. He is an all-star level player, but he’s getting paid like an allNBA level player, a top 15 to 20 player in the game. And that’s probably not quite where he is. I don’t think he’s too far below that, but it it’s still not an awful contract when you look at some other deals around the league and really in the midst of his prime right now. He’ll be entering his 28-year-old season. So, you’re trading for a player here who maybe isn’t on the up, but he’s certainly not on the down at this point in his career. And it matches up pretty perfectly with Paul George’s deal, which we’ll get to that trade idea I have here in just a minute. If you’re worried about the Lori Markin and fall off though, maybe you’re listening to what I just said, how he’s definitely not on the decline and you’re like, “But but Chip, his numbers, they’ve been going down. You know, he’s not the player he once was.” Lorie Markin just dominated in Euro Basket for Finland in nine games, playing just under 30 minutes a night. Put up 23-8. Not the greatest efficiency, but I mean, he is far and away the number one on that team. He had a 40-point game as well during Euro Basket. Really showed off that offensive skill set and averaged just over two steals a game where the defensive side of the ball hasn’t always been his calling card. He did turn it up on that end of the floor as a lot of players tend to do, you know, when they’re playing in these type of Euro basket situations. So, love what I saw from Lori really just a few weeks ago showing me, yeah, he can still hoop. He’s just been hooping in Utah where, let’s be honest, you know, he might not always be at 100% of his game. That brings me to the trade and we’ve talked about this trade idea a lot. It just lines up so perfectly and it makes so much sense for both sides. Sixers get Lorie Markin, give up Paul George. Now, this is a deal that would happen at the trade deadline. I don’t see anything like this happening quite yet, but we get to the deadline, Utah’s obviously not going to be good. It is dependent on the Sixers probably being somewhat in contention. I don’t know if you make this move if things are really going off the rails, but maybe you still will consider a swap of Paula George for Lorie Markin. You give up that Clippers first round pick in 2028. I know it’s a valuable first round pick, but the more I think about it, the Clippers are a team in a big market with an aggressive owner. There’s no guarantee it’s going to be a high-end pick. Either way, that’s the only firstrounder you give up in a deal for a player who was an all-star not too long ago. If it’s perfectly on the Sixers squad, they want some second round picks. Sure. Not too long ago, I would have said you would had to give up multiple first round picks for Lori Markin. I don’t think his value is quite that high anymore because Utah waited too long to trade him. And I think it’s just a perfect fit for the Sixers. And this is why a Lori market and trade makes so much sense for Philadelphia. One, he fits a huge need for the Sixers at that power forward role. He can score from anywhere on the floor. He can help you in the rebounding department. He’s an improved defender from a few years back. It’s just exactly what the Sixers need in that starting lineup. And he fits the Sixers timeline way better than Paul George should you’d be sending out in a hypothetical trade. He’s younger and he fits more in line with that younger core and getting better over the next few years. It also helps you make a push in a weak Eastern Conference this season with a lot of injuries across the East. Lori is a better player than Paul George and if you want to go for it, got to make upgrades on the roster. The Utah Jazz are not a competing team anyways. They don’t need Lori Markin. They’re very open to trading him. According to Chris Manx, why not get a player like Paul George, get some additional assets if you’re Utah. And look, his value is not what it was. If you want to trade for Lorie Markin, now is the time. I think he he can be had for cheaper than he has in the past. So, from the Sixers, I’m 100% going after a Lori Markin trade at this year’s NBA trade deadline. But that’s just me. Maybe you disagree. Let me know in the comments section if you were the GM, if you were Daryl Moore, you were Alton Brand, you’re running this team, would you pursue a Lori marketing trade this season? Give me a T for trade, P for pass. It just seems like it lines up so perfectly for me. So, I’d be typing my T for trade, but of course, you let me know your opinions and we’ll have a good discussion down in the comments section. Now, Chris Manx also mentioned a couple of other names to watch on the trade market this upcoming season. Two big men. Now Jared Allen, Nicole Vousvich, Jared Allen of the Cavs, Vousvich of the Bulls, not so sure they’re 100% guys, the Sixers would be too interested in, but you know, potentially if you get to the deadline and they want to stay competitive and the backup center spot hasn’t been very good, maybe Adam Bona didn’t take that next step up and Andre Drummond is still hurt and you want a real backup center, you can go after one of these two guys, but they’re making a good amount of money. It’d be tough to reach up to that amount if you’re the Sixers and and how much are you really willing to pay for one of these guys to be your backups? I don’t think they really make sense. The Sixers trade targets, but are some names to monitor here that I did want to pass along from Chris Manx. Now, coming up next, we talked some trade rumors, talked some trade buzz on Lori Marketing. We’re going to look at some advanced numbers courtesy of NBA University on Twitter. A great follow. A lot of really good stats over there on Twitterx. If you don’t follow them, give them a follow. But some good stuff from the Sixers last season that we can take a look at how it impacts our team this season. But before we get into those numbers, got to give a shout out to today’s sponsor, and that is prize picks. You and I make decisions every day, but on prize picks, being right can get you paid. Don’t miss any of the excitement this football and basketball season on prize picks where it’s good to be right. I love using prize pics because it just gets you so much more invested in those games. you know, a Monday night, you got some money on the line, you are going to be invested in watching that game closely. And super simple to play. All you do is pick more or less on at least two player stats. And if you get your picks right, you can cash in big time. I love the features Price Bricks has to offer. One great new feature is stacks, where you can pick the same player up to three times in the same lineup. So, if you want to pick more on Jaylen Herz’s pass yards, rush yards, and touchdowns, you can pick them all in the same lineup only on prize picks. Eagles playing a huge game on Thursday night against the New York Giants, looking to bounce back from that loss to the Broncos last week. I think AJ Brown gets on the board in this one, getting more than half a rushing or receiving touchdown. I think the Eagles score a lot of touchdowns in this one. So, give me the less on Jake Elliott, one and a half field goals made. And the Giants probably gonna be behind in this game for most of it. So they’re gonna be the more on Jackson Dart. 30 and a half pass attempts. It’s that simple to play the game. So download the prize picks app today and use code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. That’s code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. Prize picks. It’s good to be right. Okay, let’s take a look at some of these advanced numbers from last year. It gives us an idea of obviously the areas the six are struggling in last year. We know three-point shooting and rebounding were struggles, but this gives us even further idea into what they need to improve upon this season if they want to get out of being one of the worst teams in the NBA, which they were last season. Now, of course, when we talk about the Sixers last year, the injuries are a big key for how they can improve upon what was a disaster of a season. This chart here again, all from NBA University on Twitter, shows a total unique starting lineups that every team used last season. The Sixers up there at the top, far and away ahead of everybody else, 54 unique starting lineups in 82 games. That is absurd. No other team had more than don’t know the exact number there, but at least 10 below the Sixers using 54 lineups in 82 games. You’re simply never going to win that way. And it wasn’t just the Embiid and Paul George injuries either, right? It was guys in and out of the lineup all year long. Tyrese Maxi dealt with injuries. Andre Drummond dealt with injuries. Everybody in this roster really besides Kelly Ubé, Gershon Yabisel, and Ricky Council miss a pretty significant amount of time for the Sixers. Right. So again, it’s not just can we get and beat and Paul George healthy. It was can we get everybody healthy and just develop more consistency. One of the things Maxi talked about as well is if you are going to deal with these injuries, one of their big focuses this offseason, no matter who’s on the floor, you play the same way, you expect the same results. That was not the case last year. Hopefully that will be the case this season with a little bit of a better culture. Uh, speaking of Tyrese Maxi, I asked some people we’ll talk about how he had a disappointing year last year and it wasn’t the same efficiency-wise as he had the year before when he had a career season. But when you take a look at this graph here, it shows the points per game of the top scorers in the league and the assist points created per game. People like to say Tyrese Maxi isn’t that true floor general that creates a ton for others. And while he might not be one of the best in the league in that regard, you could see here right around the middle to the right, you see Tyrese Maxis’s head shot in that green area in that top right, every player in there, it’s considered an offensive engine. Guys that not only score a lot, but also create a lot of points for their teammates. So you can see right here, right next to Jason Tatum, there’s Tyrese Maxine. Everybody in this area you would consider an offensive engine, right? And not only are they scoring a lot, but they’re creating a lot for their teammates as well. And that’s where we need to see an even greater step from Tyrese Maxi this upcoming season. That’s the final leap for him in my opinion, to go from a really good player, an all-star level player to maybe an all-NBA level player. Can he go from sixish assists to 8, nine assists per game and keep that scoring right around 25 26 a game and do it efficiently? If he can do that, there’s a reason he can’t be one of the best true starting point guards in the entire NBA. One of the things I also want to focus on for the Sixers is the transition game. They’ve been focused on playing faster. It’s one of the things Nick Nurse has said this off season. And obviously playing faster starts with your transition offense. And last season, this shows here your transition offense, how often you get in transition, and how efficient you are in transition. The Sixers are to the left of that graph, meaning they didn’t get out in transition all that often. Now, they’re higher up on the graph, meaning that they were more efficient when they did get in transition, but they didn’t get enough transition opportunities, right? So, they need to find a way to get out and run more. Even with, you know, Joel Embiid, obviously, we know that’s not the ideal way that he wants to play, running up and down the floor all the time, but, you know, even when he’s out there, I think you have to do it more because they did show when they did that, they were able to score at a decent rate. And if your half court offense isn’t going to be very good, you got to score in transition. Hopefully, uh, they can take advantage and get out and run more often. We saw that a little bit in the preseason and they’ve talked about that this offseason. Now, we got to see it actually put into G game action. Of course, talk about trans transition offense. Got to talk about transition defense. And the Sixers here, they didn’t allow a whole lot of transition opportunities for their opponents. You can see them right about in the middle next to the Wizards, Suns, Raptors. They didn’t allow too many transition opportunities, but when they did allow them, they allowed high efficiency for their opponents, right? So, when their opponents got in transition, they scored at a pretty high rate. So, it’s again got to be a focus for this team. If you’re going to play this fast style of pace and get up and down the floor, the opponent probably is going to have more transition opportunities than last year. You got to get back. You got to get set because this defense was not good last year, especially defending threepointers. And if you can get back in transition, it just makes your life so so much easier. One of the biggest issues for the Sixers last year, defending the rim. And this is absurd, right? So, this here shows the leaders for each team on the amount of shots they defended at the rim and the percentage that their opponents shot at the rim. And the two leaders for the Sixers last season because Embiid was out so much, Andre Drummond was out so much, Adam Bona didn’t play a ton. The two leaders for the Sixers in rim defensive field goal attempts defended Gershon Yabellle and Kelly Ubé who are over there on the bottom left side of this graph. Those are the two guys that are defending the most shots at the rim for the Sixers last year. That is not what you want to see. And they also, of course, being lower on this graph allowed a higher field goal percentage at the rim. That is not gonna work if you’re the Sixers. If the the guys that are defending the rim the most are two guys that are short. Now, obviously Yabaselli not in the team anymore more, but Kelly Ubé cannot be your best rim defender. It just simply cannot happen or else you’re never going to win basketball games, right? So hopefully you’re going to beat healthy. Hopefully these additions of a Dominic Barlo, Jabari Walker, Trenon Watford, an improvement from Adam Bona helps you in that regard because if you don’t have a rim protector, guys are going get to the rim at will. Simply never going to be able to get stops. And the three-point shooting a big concern for the Sixers last season. They were one of the worst three-point shooting teams in the league. They haven’t been that good this far to start the preeason. This year shows the best three-point shooter for every team last year. The Sixers led by Quinton Grimes in this regard at 38.9%. But they were only better than the Wizards, the Pelicans, the Blazers, three not good teams, and then the Magic who a good team, but probably the worst shooting team in the league. Other than that, they didn’t have a three-point shooter better than pretty much the rest of the league, right? And almost everybody on this list, if you’re a good team, you have at least one guy that can shoot 40% from three. Now, obviously getting Jired McCain back and hopefully he plays a full season. Can Tyres Maxis efficiency get get better? Can Grimes repeat what he did last season? Can Paul George have a bounce back? I mean, these are all guys that theoretically should be really good three-point shooters. But look, it’s it’s 2025. It’ll be 2026 by the end of the season. If you don’t have guys that can shoot the ball at a high clip, once again, you’re not going to win basketball games. So, those are just some areas, some advanced analytics I wanted to look at for areas the Sixers were not good in last year that they need to improve upon this season if they want to get better more than just hoping for better injury luck because even when they were healthy, they weren’t really a very good team last year. 2. We already owe 2026 to OKC and 2028 to Brooklyn why are we still mortgaging our future for a player not guaranteed to put us over the top especially when our depth is already thin

  3. Imho, your breakdown is pretty spot on, except for your understanding of his value.
While it is lower now, with the new contract, and the weak 24-25 season, it’s still very high. And his recent team Finland stint has reinvigorated the market. Furthermore, if he plays like 22-23, or 23-24, again, that’s a wrap – back to 3-4 firsts, and young talent, along with the salary match.
So, even if we are talking just about his current value, your trade hypo is not even remotely close to what Utah would want/need for Lauri.
George is coming off of an injury plagued, awful season, now at age 35, on an awful contract.
Taking on that contract alone, would cost Philly multiple firsts (if George comes out healthy and awesome, this would change – but as of right now, that’s the reality). So, if Philly is not willing to add Edgecombe, and multiple firsts, to your hypo, Utah easily hangs up the phone.

  4. What asinine content. Danny Ainge would never do this trash deal. Bro you should be canceled for this video straight up 🤣. Why the fuck would they give up a 28 year old stud for a 35 year old washed has been..

  5. His 3 point shooting is sub-par he wont add value to the team the Sixers need to keep their own baggage and not add to it -Common mistake to look at stats and not look at what the team actually needs to win Sixers need shooters shooting 3 point shots at 40% OR BETTER
