Dan Wilson Responds to Detroit Tigers Forcing Game 5 vs. Seattle Mariners, Tigers GM4 Comeback Win

Okay, everyone. We’ll get started with Dan Wilson. Please wait for the microphone before asking a question. We’ll take our first question. Start here with Dan. Dan, Gab’s been so effective for you all season, all series. Just what did you see from him out there in the fifth? Yeah. Um, you know, I think, uh, you know, he has, you’re right, he’s thrown the ball incredibly well all season long. They were able to, you know, get to him on a couple of pitches. looked like, you know, just uh they were very aggressive on them and and um you know, able to to get some balls into the outfield and and uh you know, able they, you know, really they were just able to get to our bullpen today and and it’s been such a strength and they they’ve thrown the ball incredibly well all season long and uh you know, one of the things our guys do the best is is they bounce back and we’re going to do that and and uh no better place to do that going back home and and uh you know, being able to do that at home and on Friday night will will be what we need to do. Why why was that the best pocket firm against Meadows knowing that Hinge can counter there versus maybe saving him for Carpenter and another later pinch hit? Yeah, I mean I think you know uh we anticipated that the move that you know that uh they were going to pinch hit there, but but still liked the way Gabe matches up and and he throws the ball so well um and has you know right-handed, left hand, doesn’t matter. And um you know just uh they were able to get to him today. Dan, you’re up early. they they come back um score so many right there. Just how challenging is it to in a game like this to regain momentum there and try to kind of stem the tide? Yeah. Um you know, again, this is, you know, postseason is about momentum and and uh getting that momentum and and uh uh they were able to to to kind of turn the table there and get it. Um you know, we weren’t able to get back, you know, then they they were able to score again and and kind of uh spread the lead a little bit. Um, but again, I think, you know, it it’s up to us now to to to turn the table back and and uh get back home, bounce back, and uh, you know, get in front of the home fans and and feel their energy and and uh, come out Friday ready to go. Dan, I mean, you mentioned bouncing back and this has to be a pretty massive emotional blow considering you’re so close to winning this series, but how do you go about bouncing back and what’s your message to those guys to try to further that? Yeah, I mean, you know, again, uh everything’s in front of us and and uh you know, these guys have have uh have done this all season long where, you know, they uh you know, get in tough situations and they know exactly what to do and and and they do fight back and they do bounce back and uh not worried about that at all and and uh no better place to do that than at home. So, um you know, I think uh we just continue to do the things we’ve been doing and and uh um just get back on the right track on Friday. Dan, is there any like inherent risk of um showing the other team the relievers so often? Like, you know, Bizardo who’s been in every game, Spire’s been in the three that just that they’re going to get more familiar as the series goes on. Uh I mean, these guys have have thrown the ball so well. Um and uh you know, I don’t think that’s a risk. These guys have have uh done the job and and uh thrown the ball uh extremely well and and uh today they just you know they they were able to get to us and and uh um you know like I said we bounced back and and come back on Friday. Dan, going back to T-Mobile on Friday, you know, you’re probably going to see Scooble. Do you guys have an idea of who you’re going to match up with him? Yeah. Um, you know, we’ll we’ll announce that, you know, coming up, but uh, you know, I think, you know, we we’ve been able to get to school throughout and and, um, you know, we have another chance to do that on on Friday and and, uh, offensively, you know, uh, we’ve done some really good things in this series and and, uh, continue to do some of those things today. Um, so we will certainly be ready on Friday. Dan, would what did you see from Bryce? It looked like he was giving you kind of what you want and were you seeing something you felt like it was time to go get him at that point? Yeah, I mean I he he was throwing the ball well. Uh I I thought, you know, um used his fast ball extremely well, had good life to it. Um thought he threw some good splits. You know, it was it was a really good pitch for him. Um you know, kind of able to to neutralize the lefties as he went through that. He was working quickly. Uh was pretty efficient getting through that lineup there and and uh um you know, just uh were they were able to get a couple guys on. just felt like the right time to go get Gabe and and uh you know be ready for that for that uh you know that left-handed pocket coming up.   5. Game 5 could be Naylor’s last game as a Mariner. If he is looking at this team to win a World Series, he probably sees that this team can’t win a World Series in the near future with Wilson as manager. Wilson has a long learning curve that will take time.

  6. There were definitely some questionable decisions. Like deciding to pinch hit for Canzone after he got an RBI. Also, taking Bryce out when he did. Shoulda let him pitch a little longer.

    Detroit manager is evil one, because he was a Astro scandal stealing pitchers information. Hopefully, Mariners can over come such obstacles. Detroit is very good road team, they're a road fighters.
    I think some mariners players are little selfish now, in stead of a team success to advance the playoffs

  10. Dan better let the starters go longer if we have a chance. This is ridiculous taking out a starter after 55 pitches giving up no runs. Wilson lost this game, hope he learns something from this bad loss.

  13. 100％ウィルソンの采配が敗因だ。この男は1戦必勝の野球を知らない。何かバカみたいな余裕を見せているのがずっと気になっていた。シーズン中と同じ戦い方をすれば勝てると思い込んでるのは初戦の采配の甘さを見てからずっと感じていた。ミラー、ハンコック、エバンスで継投すれは2～3回を全力で投げてくれれば７～8回くらいまで行けると私は思っていたしミラーが初回から全力投球（シーズン中より球速が2～3マイル上がっていた）なのを見てやはりそのプランなんだと思ったらまさかの4回にも続投した。案の定4回から球の勢いは落ちてきた、頼むから継投してくれと思ったが4回に続投してるんだからこの素人監督の頭には何のプランも無い事がその時分かった。たまたま4回は投げ切れたから、5回から継投か、こういう甘さが相手チームには伝わると思っていたらまさかの5回もミラー続投。この時私は負けると思った。せっかくのミラーの全力投球が無駄になった。当然だがタイガースは5回のミラー続投で「この素人監督は何も分かって無い、勝てる」と確信しただろう。ラッキーが有れば勝ち進めるかもしれないが私はマリナーズは無理だろうと今は思っている。第5戦でラッキーがあればまた見たいと思う。

  15. Please read my post! Dan brought the M's this far and remember 17/18 to get to this spot! We all tend to question coaching after the game's final results! I believe in Dan and his methodology! He will not repeat the same mistakes twice! Go M's! We got this on our home turf!

  17. Sayin a WHOLE LOTTA NUTHIN. Very ironic that the biggest impediment our boys are facing right now is their own Skipper. The fact that Dan didn't even step one foot out of the dugout after that questionable fairball/foulball say everything you need to know about the guy. Rather than taking an opportunity to confront the umps, fire up his squad, and try to stop the momentum Detroit was building he stays in the dugout with his head up his ass.
    To my fellow M's fans out there, it is hard to describe the level of anxiousness I have waiting for Friday night to come. This squad deserves to win but I just can't shake the feeling that Dan Wilson's senseless decision-making, across the board this entire series, will do us in. The man is timid, unsure of himself, and just generally lacking any kind of fight that a Skipper requires to captain the ship. He is not Manager material and the fact that a remnant of our cursed past is overseeing it's continued torment is highly ironic.

  20. Say it with me mariner fans! We will win game 5! I’m tired of us always thinking negative and expecting to lose, I expect to win, we have the better overall team! Better bullpen and starters outside of skubal who we beat already! Time to believe and stand behind our team! Players need good quality at bats! We got this!
