[MKC] Like Flacco trade, the #Browns trade of G.Newsome II to the #Jaguars for T. Campbell was a surprising and quick deal. They were willing to extend Newsome. Campbell will cost them less over the next 3 1/2 years.

  1. I’m cool with it I guess but I was kinda turning my opinion on Greg around after the Cincinnati game thought he was locking stuff down

  2. Ugh—just watched some Jags games from this year.

Cap implications and value aside, it looks the Browns just took a bigger downgrade at CB than anyone is going to say out loud until it’s obvious from the play on the field. But maybe a change of scenery will help Campbell find some form, he was supposedly looking promising before his injury a few years ago.

But If I was in the locker room I would be questioning if the Browns really want to win any more games at all this year, and that’s a terrible place to be at 5 games into the season. I feel bad for the vets on the team.

  3. So they had planned on extending Newsome and then surprised themselves by making a quick deal …..yeah that sounds about right.

  4. I thought newsome was pretty good. Feels like the browns already decided they werent going to pay him…but then trade for a similar level corner with a fat contract?

  5. I wonder if there’s a world where we suprise people and trade for Riq Woolen. He’s also on the trade block in Seattle and fits AB’s mold as a reclamation project, same as Campbell. And he’s another good man corner struggling in his current system. Could see us dangling Alex Wright for him, especially if Hall is getting close and we plan on moving him around the line.

  6. I think what weirds me out is it seemed Newsome was playing a big role on this D this season. He was covering a lot of WR1s when I expected to see Ward doing so and appeared to be doing fine. PFF says this and that when it comes to comparing the 2 CBs involved in this trade and I’m getting the money/Emerson’s return next season/scheme fit arguments for sure, but I really thought his outside skills at CB2 were flourishing this year. And now it just feels like they’re gonna go full tank mode. But, if it opens up some $ for a WR (I don’t know if it does, probably not enough with the Watson bs contract and all – understanding contract shenanigans is not my strong suit though), I’m so all about it.

I’m a lil confused/kinda get it… let’s see what Campbell does and what happens before the trade deadline. Maybe I’ll be happy with the trade in due time but I’m a Browns fan – I don’t understand happy.
