Giannis Spoke To Media Today: “The moment I step in on this court, I wear this jersey, the rest does not matter. I’m locked into whatever I have in front of me — Now if in six, seven months I change my mind, I think that’s human, too. You’re allowed to make any decision you want.”

  1. I mean… I don’t love it but it’s the same thing he’s said for the last five years.

  2. I don’t mind this from him. This is the same thing he has said for years. If the team sucks then he is going to look to leave and that’s fair.

Also, they cut out my favorite part of this clip, which is about this year which is the only thing that matters right now:

    >I’ve said this many times, I want to be in a situation that I can win and now I’m here. I believe in this team. I believe in my teammates. I’m here to lead this team to wherever we can go and it’s definitely going to be hard. We’re going to take it day-by-day, but I’m here.

  3. Giannis can’t play off ball, he needs to dominate the ball. I struggle to see how he’d work in New York unless Brunson is part of the trade.

  4. I’ve always appreciated Giannis, he’s a straight forward kind of guy. That type of personality does well in New York. Also, Astoria has the best Greek food in the country.

  5. It would be nice, as a bucks fan, for Giannis to say “I’d like to be a buck for the rest of my life.” But He’s never said that and never will imo. What he said here is very similar to what he’s said more or else every offseason, and has been reported in my local reporters.

He wants to win and if the bucks can’t put a passable product on the floor around him, he may ask out. But either way I think it would be at the end of this season and the bucks at least have a chance to keep him (by leveraging more picks and expiring contracts in the offseason).

I think he may leave, but this quote doesn’t bother me or upset me especially since it came at the same time as him talking about believing in his teammates and being locked in for this season

  6. He has always chosen to speak honestly because it’s a business and the owners don’t get to skate by on loyalty if they can’t put together a winning team. This doesn’t seem any different.

  7. Honestly, the more I think about the more I understand Giannis’ perspective on this. He loves Milwaukee and doesn’t want to leave, but he’s also maniacally competitive and the Bucks haven’t won a playoff series in 3 seasons.

  8. He’s been super clear and non comital to Milwaukee for a while. And I respect that. It’s okay to say “if we’re good then I’ll stay. If we suck and there’s no hope for a championship in the future then I’m out”.

  9. Kelvin Benjamin: The moment I step in this Buffet, I wear this bib, the rest does not matter. I’m locked into whatever is in front of me – Ribs, pizza, pot roast, ice cream – now if in six, seven plates I change my mind, I think that’s human too – you’re allowed to go back and get any dish you want.

  10. He’s right about humans being able to change their minds about things based on changing feelings.

The internet tries to force people into this box where if you say one thing it has to be your same exact stance forever and ever, people don’t work like that.
