He’s also the first (and currently the only) American captain to win the cup more than once!
He will always be the Captain. Everyone else that has or will come after him will be playing the role in his shadow.
Oh Captain my Captain
He’s the C that we need. Never won a lady byng, didn’t need to. I know that will rub some fans the wrong way. But if you gotta scrap and go after the other teams best player, then by all means you do it. (I.e. Hit on the Sedin)
Kopi is my King, but Dustin will forever by my Captain.
man this took me straight back to where I was sitting, what it sounded like, the people I was with. Incredible.
Jesse Cohen is gonna flame me for this, but I think Brownie has a real case for the greatest King of all time, even if Kopi is a much better player who spent his whole career with the Kings, too.
Kopi, unfortunately, never managed a deep playoff run as Kings captain (with one last chance this season) – this isn’t Kopi’s fault, but the Kings in his era haven’t had the same “never say die” attitude that the Kings in the peak Brownie era had.
Brownie was counted out so many times, was put on the trading block and his captaincy was questioned: every time Brownie bounced back and unquestionably was the leader in the team. 2012 and 2014 don’t happen without Brownie as captain; he rightfully is a Kings legend, even if not a HHOF candidate like Kopi.
