Alohi Gilman on Joining the Ravens | Baltimore Ravens
Welcome to the area. What have the last 24 hours been like for you? Oo, 24 hours. I’ve been awake for about 21 of them. Um, it’s been a long day. Um, still processing everything. Uh, you know, it’s been a been cool to be here and everyone’s been, you know, open up their arms and, uh, just showing the hospitality and, uh, I have a little bit of history with Maryland. I was at the Naval Academy out of high school and so it’s a has a special place in my heart, but I’m happy to be out here and get this thing rolling. Sound like you’re talking a lot with Kyle Hamilton. I know he’s like Not your name guy, too. I guess what has it been like getting to know him and how’s he been helping you catch up? Yeah. Yeah. You know, Cam, that’s that’s my brother. Um he was a young freshman my senior year at Notre Dame. Um he was uh having a hard time as a freshman. wanted to quit, but I had to keep him in shape and now he’s a allp pro. So, you know, I’m happy to be here. Uh Kyle’s been great. Great friend, great player. Um get that, you know, Notre Dame connection going again and I’m excited for what’s ahead. Take football out of it. Just the human element. What is it like to think one day you’re playing somewhere else and the next now you’re here? Yeah, it’s uh you know, something you can’t really prepare for. Um it’s been tough on me and my family. Um, I have young I have a young daughter and another son on the way, you know, wife. So, that’s been tough. Um, you’re in one facility one day and you get pulled out and you’re on a plane in 3 hours and um throw a bunch of stuff in your bag, say goodbye and hit the road. So, you know, it’s a whirlwind of emotions. Um, obviously I spent a good amount of time with the Chargers uh my whole career, six years. So, it’s you know, a little a little uh bittersweet, but uh you know, I’ve come to a great organization and I’m super grateful for that cuz you know, they could have sent me anywhere and um you know, being able to be here with the Ravens and you know, they wanted me to be here to help this team win. I’m excited to do that and whatever I can do to be the best version of myself and to get this thing going. How about the transition between the Chargers and the Ravens? they tell you anything that you could expect here? Uh, I mean, you know, Harbaugh Brothers, you know, um, I’m excited to see the the similarities and differences. Uh, obviously I got a lot of respect for both of them. Um, you know, Jim Harbaugh at the Chargers and then John obviously the history that he’s made here and built this great organization. So, um, you know, I’m excited for it for sure. Just what what do you what do you expect to bring to this defense and how you can fit in? Yeah, you know, I think uh you know, I can bring flexibility. Um just bringing that uh next level of uh anticipation, anticipation and uh you know, just being a playmaker out there. Um bringing instincts and you know, passion to the game. I think obviously like I said, I got some chemistry with Kyle. Um hopefully we can get him the better best ops possible to for him to thrive and flourish. And um you know I just you know just being the being the best version of me being a ball hawk being a guy who’s always around the ball and just commanding the defense and um you know I’m excited to do that. Lowi is uh Jefferson TJ. Did he give you a recommendation about the Ravens? Yeah. Yeah. Tony Jefferson. Um obviously that’s my brother. Shout out to TJ Jeff. uh he’s uh since he’s been with the charges, he’s always repping the Ravens and I used to get on him for it and now I’m here. So, um I gave him a call right before I got on the plane. Um that’s my brother. I’ve had a lot of great memories with him and he has so much respect for this organization and he’s like, “Man, you’re going to love it.” And uh you know, I’m just excited to be here. What are some of your first impressions of working with Chuck Pagano? Say that one more time. Some of your first impressions of Chuck Pagano. Oh, yeah. Obviously, uh, Coach Pagano, he’s, uh, been around the game for for decades and, uh, you know, just being able to chop it up with him, learn more about football. Um, it’s obviously really early, but, um, just a guy that I can learn from. You know, I’m been in the league for a little bit, but I’m I’m always trying to get better and learn and grow, and, um, Chuck Malo is a a great place to to start and just learn and grow my game. How do you realistically load your plate for Sunday, especially when it’s an offense like the Rams? Oh, man. I mean, luckily I’ve, you know, had open practices with the Rams almost every year that I played with the Chargers, so I got a a pretty good understanding of what they kind of do. Um, you know, I think the coaching staff here is doing a great job of trying to slowly install things and see how we can, you know, tie the knots together. And, um, you know, it’s it’s exciting for me cuz that’s what I do as a football player, man. This is my craft. So, I’m going to be up all night. I’ve been already up. So, we just going to keep it rolling and just keep getting better. How similar is this defense to How similar is this defense to the Chargers? Obviously, with what they run, he having Raven’s fingerprints all over. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, you know, when I first when the uh coach Miner and Coach Harbaugh came to the the Chargers, um there was a lot of Ravens film that we watched. Um trying to learn a little bit about the techniques, um schemes, personnels, and whatnot. So, um, a lot of carryover, a lot of crossover. Um, obviously every coordinator has their own, you know, uh, philosophies, techniques or small things that they like to add their wrinkles to. uh learned a lot for co from coach Miner and but I’m excited to work with coach or and um you know this whole this whole uh defensive unit you know has a lot of you know a lot of talent and whatever I can do to add to it you know I’ll be here for

Charger fan here.. Baltimore please take care of Alohi…Bummed to see him go. You guys definitely got a solid piece to your Defense.
Aloha, Alohi!
Can't imagine he's too thrilled about going from a 3-2 team in Souther California to a 1-4 team in Baltimore.
Ravens Yall got a baller. He was the perfect compliment to Derwin James. He’s going to allow Hamilton to shine and keep the back end locked up. Really sad to see Alohi go. Go ball out!
