THE FIRST 1, I THOUGHT OF ON TUESDAY WITH DEBBIE MCCORD, HE WAS THE DUVAL DOUBLE FALL AND I KNOW THAT’S A LITTLE CLUNKY BUT I KIND OF LIKE IT. THE BEST SUGGESTION THAT I LIFE ALERT PLAY BECAUSE YES, TREVOR LAWRENCE HAD FALLEN AND HE COULDN’T GET UP. SO SOME CREATIVE IDEAS OUT THERE PETE AND I WERE TALKING ABOUT DOESN’T STICK. LIKE A LOT OF TIMES, ULTIMATE RELEVANCE OF THE PLAY. WELL, WHY WOULD THEY DO THIS? WHY WOULD THE BROWNS DO THIS AND MY RESPONSE WAS IN AIR QUOTES ANALYTICS OR ACTUAL QUOTES ANALYTICS? THE BROWNS ALWAYS WHATEVER. ANALYTICS. SOME SOME FORMULA SOMEWHERE. THIS IS WHAT WE SHOULD DO, BECAUSE IT’S ALL DRIVEN BY VALUE. AND I BROKE DOWN THE CONTRACTS THIS MORNING. YOU’VE GOT GREG NEWSOME IN HIS FIFTH YEAR OPTION AND HE’S MAKING 13.37 MILLION FOR THE WHOLE YEAR. OBVIOUSLY THE BROWNS HAVE ALREADY PAID 5 OF 18 GAME CHECKS. REMEMBER THERE ARE 18 GAME CHECKS? YOU TAKE THE TOTAL SALARY, DIVIDED BY 18. YOU GET PAID THE SAME AMOUNT DURING YOUR BIWE, SO THAT’S HOW IT BREAKS DOWN PER AND THE BROWNS KNOW THAT NEXT YEAR, THEY’RE GOING TO HAVE TO MAKE THE FRANCHISE TAG DECISION OR SIGN. GREG NEWSOME TO A LONG-TERM DEAL FRANCHISE TAG THIS YEAR FOR CORNERS WAS PROBABLY 22, 23, NEXT YEAR, IF THE SALARY GAP GOES UP, 10% USUALLY THE, THE ACCORDINGLY. AND IT’S ENTIRELY POSSIBLE. THEY’VE ALREADY HAD PRELIMINARY CONVERSATIONS WITH GREG NEWSOME’S AGENTS ABOUT WHAT HE’S LOOKING FOR. SO, YOU HAVE TO BALANCE KEEP NEWSOME. VERSUS IN CAMPBELL. AND WHEN YOU CONSIDER THE JAGUAR SIGN BETWEEN A LONG-TERM DEAL 2024, ALREADY. I DID THE MATH. AND AGAIN, I THINK IT’S ACCURATE. I NEVER KNOW UNTIL SOMEONE TELLS ME IT’S WRONG. I’LL JUST ASSUME THAT IT WAS BUT FOR THE REST OF THIS YEAR AT A TOTAL PAYOUT OF 1.08 MILLION. BECAUSE HE’S GOT A LOW BASE SALARY AS A RESULT OF OPTION. BONUSES ETC. AND FOR THE NEXT 3 YEARS AFTER THIS 2526.27, HE’S GOING TO GET 45.6 MILLION, THAT’S 15.2 MILLION PER YEAR. THAT IS SIGNIFICANTLY BELOW THE MARKET. THE TOP OF THE MARKET FOR CORNERS AND IT’S WELL BELOW THE NEW MONEY AVERAGE OF THE DEAL THAT HE SIGNED IN 2024 19.125 MILLION. NOW, WHY THE DIFFERENCE BECAUSE IT’S FRONT-LOADED AND A LOT OF MONEY’S BEEN PAID TO THE POINT WHERE THE JAGUARS NEXT YEAR WILL TAKE A CAP CHARGE OF 22.72 MILLION FOR BONUS MONEY ALREADY PAID TO TYSON CAMPBELL, SO FROM THE BROWNS PERSPECTIVE, OKAY, WE’RE LOOKING AT THE POSSIBILITY OF GREG NEWSOME WALKING AWAY. WE TAGGED HIM AT 2223 MILLION NEXT YEAR AND THEN HE WALKS AWAY AFTER THAT, LIKE WE GET SOME CERTAINTY. BY SWAPPING, THE 2 PLAYERS CORNERS AND YOU CAN LOOK AT DIFFERENT GRADING SITES AND YOU KNOW WHO’S GOOD? WHO’S BAD? WHO’S THE BEST? WHO’S THE WORST? I MEAN, THE NEITHER IS THE, THE BEST AND NEITHER IS LIKE, OH GOD, HE CAN’T COVER ANYONE. SO THEY’RE IN THE THE, THE REALM OF CORNERS WHO CAN GET THE JOB DONE. SO YOU TRADE A COUPLE OF CORNERS, WHO CAN GET THE JOB DONE, AND THE BROWNS HAVE CERTAINTY BEYOND THIS SEASON AT AN AFFORDABLE AMOUNT, ASSUMING TYSON CAMPBELL ISN’T GOING TO SAY HEY HEY YOU’RE ONLY PAYING ME 15.2 MILLION FOR THE NEXT 3 YEARS. YOU GOT TO BARGAIN HERE, I WANT MORE MONEY. THEY’RE GOING TO HAVE TO DEAL WITH THAT IF THAT HAPPENS. AND FROM THE JAGUARS PERSPECTIVE I MEAN THINK OF THIS YOU GOT A NEW COACHING STAFF ANTHONY CAMPANILE WITH THE THE DEFENSE THAT DOES CERTAIN THINGS AND MAYBE THEY’VE DECIDED AFTER A HANDFUL OF GAMES. WE’D RATHER HAVE SOMEBODY ELSE. GREG GNOME FITS, WHAT WE DO BETTER AND THEY’RE WILLING TO STEP INTO A SITUATION WHERE THEY HAVE 22 MILLION PLUS IN DEAD MONEY NEXT YEAR. AND THEY HAVE A GUY WHO IS EITHER GOING TO BE TAGGED, OR BECOME A FREE AGENT OR SIGN A LONG-TERM DEAL WITH THE JAGUARS EITHER IN THE SHORT TERM OR BEFORE THE FRANCHISE TAG IS APPLIED, OR IN THEORY AFTERWARDS, SO THEY ARE. I ARE. MAKING THIS DECISION WE’RE WILLING TO STEP INTO A POTENTIALLY DIFFICULT FINANCIAL SITUATION IN ORDER TO GET A PLAYER THAT THEY DEEM IS GOING TO BE A BETTER FIT FOR WHAT THEY’RE TRYING TO DO DEFENSIVELY. SO, THAT WAS THE BIG TRADE FROM YESTERDAY. THE SURPRISE THAT KIND OF HAPPENED OUT OF NOWHERE. I DON’T THINK IT MEANS THE BROWNS ARE GIVING UP ON THE SEASON. THE BROWNS, I BELIEVE ARE TRYING TO BUY CERTAINTY FOR THE FUTURE AND I BELIEVE THEY FACED A VERY UNCERTAIN FUTURE WITH GREG NEWSOME. HIM. AT, I BELIEVE A LOT LESS MONEY THAN THEY THOUGHT. THEY WOULD HAVE TO SPEND, AND THEN THAT’S WHEN THE ANALYTICS GET INVOLVED IN THE HIGH-END GRADING AND YOU KNOW ALL THE DIFFERENT ACRONYMS AND THINGS THAT ARE USED TO TRY TO TURN AN INHERENTLY INTANGIBLE SPORT INTO SOMETHING TANGIBLE. AND I KNOW, I KNOW, ANALYTICS HAS ITS PLACE, BUT FOOTBALL IS STILL FOOTBALL AND IT’S 11 DIFFERENT PARTS COMING

  1. While the Jaguars signed Campbell to a long-term contract in the 2024 offseason, he was neither drafted nor re-signed by this regime. He also has struggled at times making plays on the ball during his career. One thing to remember, too, is that this trade gets the Jaguars out of a lot of the salary-cap commitment of Campbell's 2024 contract. Newsome's contract runs out at the end of the season, which means the Jaguars can re-sign him or move on at the position. It gives the Jaguars freedom at the position that didn't exist previously.

  5. You don't need analytics to know that Newsome is a defensive liability and is being hunted by opposing qbs all season. He's not worth $22M.

  7. I hate this trade. Newsome was playing well at his old position once Emerson went down for the season. The Browns probably were not going to pony up to resign Newsome though.

  10. NJoku is next. Love Njoku but Fannins ballin on a rookie deal and Browns aren't going to pay Njoku big money. He's a good TE great blocker too but they have other needs especially Oline to pay

  12. It's pretty simple Mike. It's not "analytics" ya knucklehead.
    1) Newsome is about to hit FA and will want CB2 money. Browns envision Newsome as a nickel in their defense and Emerson as their CB2 so they weren't about to offer him that type of money.
    2) Campbell is under contract this year and next year for a very low cap hit before his big money kicks in. But even before it does, there is an out with $0 dead cap if he doesn't work out. It's low risk high reward.
    This makes sense why Browns would do this. It's not some obscure "analytics" shtick you're yapping about

  17. This trade frees up money for 27. They will have around 50 mill. Lloyd and Walker need paid. Plus there are some cap casualties that jags could look at to like armstead.

  18. Bill belichick should go to Miami Dolphins! Win the remaining games there to: 1 make Dolphins have the top two hC in history 2 make fans sell out the stadium to be part of history and 3 have a statue at hardrock to forever show pats that we immortalized the best in Miami.

  24. Campbell is not interested in playing tough football, he’s interested in getting paid. If the Browns ended up with him then you know.

  25. As a jags fan Tyson Campbell has been a liability all season just look at the bengals game. Hes a guy Baalke drafted and liked so he overpaid him. Newsome is definitely an upgrade but ye jags gonna have to resign him or watch him walk.
