Devin Booker Macao, China Media Availability | Phoenix Suns | Talks the experience, team, and more
All right. If anybody has a question for Devin, please raise your hand. We’ll bring a microphone to you. So, mic one, front row. Can you talk a bit about what it means for you as a player and for the league uh to be playing these games in China? I think it’s super important. Um, obviously, you know, we have a big fan base out here in China. you know, we have Chinese players in the NBA and um you know, I think basketball without borders is super important. being here on their homeland and letting them see see us play in person. You know, I think for the youth and, you know, the next generation um of Chinese players getting this experience on on their land um will just, you know, open up the their inspiration and, you know, make them feel they have a chance. Black Devin, hi. Oh um you’ve become one of the most global marketable players now. I mean how do you appro approach your brand here in China and in Asia? Um super important also. Um I came out here six years ago and did Rise Academy through um through Nike and that was actually before I had a signature shoe with Nike. So, you know, again, getting involved with the youth, um, being here, letting them feel you, um, letting them hear me talk, um, is super important. And I know, you know, the game of basketball is, you know, it it it touches everywhere in the world, but especially here in China. Next question. Front row on your right, Devin. Hey, Devin. Um, the NBA has obviously come to China several times, but it’s been six years, and I wonder if you’re getting any sense of the excitement that the league is back, that there’s they’re going to be games here again. Do you get a sense of how big of a deal this is or if it is? Yeah, I know. I know it is. Um, like I said in coming here once before and you know getting that experience and you know just seeing the reaction seeing you know their their faces light up you know just upon our arrival. So you know it’s super important for us super important for the league to to be here in person and doing this. Second row right side. Uh Devin, just want to ask your observation about how the reception and the fan base in China has evolved over the years as you were saying because you were here uh multiple times and do you feel like uh that has taken a hit during the time when the league was not in the country? Um you know from my perspective it’s always been an extreme amount of love. Um, and me not being here for 6 years, you know, even seeing that through social platforms and, you know, the the Twitters and the Instagrams of the world. I know for me myself, I have, you know, a tremendous amount of respect for, you know, the the country of China and they have the same for us. Next question to your left. Hey Devin, uh, Pete Averick, Tata, Hong Kong here. Um, I know you’re in preeason, these trips across the other side of the world. How much is it exciting to grow the global game and meet international fans versus how much does it disrupt your flow in preseason as a team? Um, I mean, honestly, this time around, I haven’t even been jetlagged yet. Um, you know, so the routine is still there. Um, we’re enjoying ourselves. I think it it’s also good to, you know, get the team, you know, away from our our normal comfort zone and get on the road together before we start the season. I think it builds a lot of camaraderie. Um, and we can start building chemistry. You know, I’m not saying there’s distractions at home, but, you know, we’re all here together and, you know, we’re good to do experiences outside of basketball together. Next question will be back to your right. Um Devin, so you spent last summer playing in the Olympics as well. So really busy season and year leading up to this. So how’s it like having a full preseason preseason back and getting back into your groove? Uh I mean this that was last summer. Th this past summer was too long for my liking without being in the playoffs. So you know I’m I’m eager to get back to it. You know, I’m excited. Um obviously we’ve had some changes with the roster. We’ve had some changes with the coaches. Um, you know, so I think it’s a big responsibility for me to um just be a leader, continue being a leader, and get everybody on the same page so we can start this thing off the right way. Next question back right is from TVBS. So, how would you define the new son’s era built around you? Um, it’s kind of what I just said, you know, I have a I have a big leadership role now, you know, that I’m ready to take on and we’re looking forward to it. You know, we we had an early camp because we were coming out here and we had one preseason game um versus the Lakers before we came. So, you know, everything’s hitting on all cylinders right now. You know, we just have to continue to grow um continue getting better day by day. Any more questions for Devon? Okay. Thank you, Devin.
