  1. I wouldn’t be opposed ik ppl are down on him but he did end strong and statistically this is an outlier year. Had a 2.68 FIP, Idt he’s cooked.

  2. I’d give him a one or two year contract, but he’s definitely going to get more than that on the open market. But I think the days of relievers getting 4-5 year deals is in the past. 90% of top relievers can’t put together 2-3 great seasons in a row.

That being said, maybe they give him a qualifying offer

  3. he definitely was a force from august on, but he will want closer money but won’t be a closer for the yanks..don’t see him returning but stranger things have happened, if he’s willing to be a set up man

  4. I’d take him back a on friendly 2 year deal. Not as a prominent closer but a 7th 8th inning man. Get him an Doval in the right frame of mind in the offseason and you’ll have Williams/Doval (or Doval/Williams) and Bednar in the 9th.

  5. he definitely had rough moments but man was he resilient. and even with last night’s outing, he was our best pitcher out of the pen besides bednar this postseason.

  6. I’d sign him on the condition he learns a 3rd pitch. His airbender, great as it is, just leaves people sitting on a fastball that becomes incredibly hittable. He was good, but maybe not what we need at the moment.

  7. Tbh he’s no worse than Weaver at this point in time, I’d like to have him back as the setup guy

  8. May as well have him back if its a low enough price. I think I trust Williams much more over the long haul than re-signing Weaver (yeah I know the money isn’t the same, but neither is the talent level). Williams striking out Vladdy with just fastballs shows me he still has it in there.

  9. Was great down thw stretch and performed in the playoffs. That’s enough to win me over.

  10. I’d probably take him back, assuming the price is decent.

His FIP and strikeout rate were elite. By eye test he was also elite for the home stretch + postseason.

He had a horrendous start where he looked out of shape. He couldn’t throw strikes and then batters sat on his 93 mph fastball.

By the postseason his fastball was 96-97 mph and he was mostly unhittable.

  11. I actually like the idea of bringing him back. As the closer it wasn’t great, but most forget some of his best work came as the set up guy for Josh Hader. I think he started to settle in down the stretch and in the playoffs he showed who he can be. I like the idea of him setting up for Bednar next season but obviously I understand why others don’t want him back.

  12. I mean, what’s he going to say “this place sucks and I’d never re-sign”? I’d be fine either way with him staying or going

  13. I’d bring him back. He got his footing toward the end of the year and in the post season. There’s value in experience playing under the bright lights and media environment of NYC and showing resilience + improvement.

  14. Dodgers maybe….he stated in his first interview after the trade, that he expected to be traded to the Dodgers, not the Yankees. I wouldn’t mind bringing him back on a reasonable deal but he’ll want closer money and I don’t see that happening with the Yankees.

  15. I kinda think he’d have a bounce back year next year. Someone said it on this thread, we need a real leader. We need an insane person (Gardy for Manager) but Cole can’t be the only one.

  16. “At first, it was a challenge, but I’ve grown to love being here. I’ve really enjoyed my experience here”… That’s why I’m signing with the Dodgers

  17. I don’t know if I necessarily want him back, but credit to him for saying the right things. And he didn’t give up, he was actually very good in the playoffs.

  18. If Devin never shaved his beard to begin with this season, he would have ended with a sub 2.00 era.

  19. He finished strong and was great in the playoffs. That had to do wonders to his confidence after the Pete home run the year prior. I’d take him back
