What it do, fellas? Excited to see y’all. Good to see you. I ain’t seen El Boogie in a while. Zoom, I see you all the time, man. But appreciate you representing the workhorse shirt as well, too. Come on now. You already know. y’all. Well, yeah. Let’s get let’s get in there right off the top. You you you launched a a new a new clothing line. Is that correct? Yeah. Yeah. It’s called Workhorse Clothing. Um those who followed my career and stuff and who I play with. Uh I had a a uh a jersey or a shirt I wore under the jersey every game and every practice that had to heavily get washed obviously, but it had workhorse on the back. That was kind of one of the nicknames that I got uh while playing. And when I finished playing, I wanted to start an athletic brand that has something that, you know, when I cuz I still work out. I like to uh exercise and stuff, but that was durable, that had some style to it and wasn’t whack, but then also uh but also was something that is is affordable as well. So, yeah, I had my my dog Zoom in the in the photo shoot with me, too. And uh and then, you know, most recently, we launched the female aspect of it, which is mayor. So, we got the the the women’s clothes in there, too. Zoom, what are you thinking about in that picture to the right right there? How much I hate to work out? You’re like, you’re like, damn, my knees hurt. I’m thinking about lunch right there. I’m thinking about going to the gym and and hitting the bar. But you, man, you you look good though, dude. You’re like 58 years old, but you look younger. I mean, I’m not that old. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Slow it down. I thought you I thought you had Slow down. I don’t have a gray on my body. I know. I know. I mean, look at me. Good barber. You got a good barber. Good. Good. Dyer. Beijing. Is that that Beijing? This is all natural juices and berries, my brother. And number. So, you got the work workhorse clothing line. Uh, do you want to tell people how they can go uh uh pick that stuff up if they want it? Absolutely. Absolutely. Workhorseclo.com. That simple. and uh on uh Instagram, shopworkhorse. You can go check it out uh right on the site. Yep. Absolutely. I tell you what, I have a couple of pieces and um they’re very comfortable, soft, um they move well, they breathe well. So, go check it out, man. I have a couple of pieces. I’m rocking the piece right now. Long sleeve shirt. Like to work out in this one right here. So, go check it out for sure. Yeah, absolutely. But I feel I feel like in the game I feel like in the game we’ve kind of we we’ve gotten away from workh horses like Matt Forte. And I think just very very recently they’re starting to etch back in a little bit. You know what I mean? There’s been a lot of running backs, you know, been that were drafted in this last draft, you know, in the first two two to three rounds. You know, it was one of the best running back classes in a long time. So maybe we’re starting to etch back to, you know, some of the the the workh horses with coach, especially with uh um um some of the coaches like like down in San Diego, you know, where they like to they love to run the ball. We’re getting teams that like to run the ball a little bit more. What good thoughts thoughts, Matthew? Yeah. Hey, absolutely. And I love it. I love it. You know, they always talked about it being a passing league, like since I entered the league, which I don’t know. It was just kind of that time where they had so many uh quarterbacks that were emerging or coming after some of those Hall of Fame type quarterbacks. You you know we we played against guys like the Drew Brees, Tom Brady, you know, Aaron Rogers, all these uh you know, namely quarterbacks that continue to build. Yeah, they got a few guys now, the Josh Allen, the you know, Lamar Jackson and and you know, Patrick Mahomes, those kind of guys, but I think it’s less and less of those kind of dynasty type of quarterbacks that are coming about. So, they need a running game to really help them. If you look at the Eagles, great defense. They got Jaylen Herz who he passes for like 180 to 200 yards a game. He’s not really having 300 yard, 400 yard passing games, but they got Saquon back there. So, they have a Bellcow running back that can run and catch and screen passes. And guys are getting more in tune through that in college. Like, I need to put in the full body of work to be a running back where it’s run, block, and catch. and to um really help these young quarterbacks to to be better. So with our Bears, I would hope that we could, you know, not uh get away from the running game uh so quickly sometimes, but that we kind of just really find somebody who can like do it all and not just, you know, here’s here’s the hammer, here’s the guy who can catch the passes, here’s the flashy guy, but put it all together. We’re all done. What are you seeing? What are you seeing right now out of the Chicago Bears offense? Um, you know, they basically rebuilt the offensive line and they want to implement the run game, but it just seems like they it’s something’s not really clicking. What exactly are you seeing with that? Well, you know, hence the name of the show, Brick by Brick. They try to rebuild the offensive line, but sometimes you got to choose the right bricks to put up there. So, that don’t always happen. Um, and it shows, you know, when when you, and this is one of the annoying things. We used to do this, and it’s a telltale sign when you don’t trust your offensive line, when you throw quick screens all the time. And not that they’re doing that. We used to do that in the past, uh, like last year. And it’s like, why are we throwing all these quick screens? It’s because they they can’t take a five-step drop. And you don’t trust the O line to to pass block or to keep your quarterback uh safe or or even in a a clean pocket to throw the ball. But it’s been evident that they’re they have stepped up. They’re a little bit better than last year, but we got a long way to go, especially in the run game. They haven’t really been effective in that aspect to help Caleb and take the pressure off of him, but then also he’s been still running a lot. And that could be both on him and the line where sometimes he is not making the right read or he’s slow on the read cuz sometimes there’s guys open that he’ll throw it late. And um but the the O line I think if we’re being honest like that’s the weakest point of the team right now. But they they just um and it always sounds funny coming from a former running back. It’s like oh blame the old line original. It’s like no this has been an issue for years. Like you can go back to when I was playing or maybe even a little bit before I was playing. like it’s been an issue where we never really had a a a real stable like you know some of those those guys like the the the Trent Williams or or like these guys that you know can just maul people up front. Uh my favorite group of linemen I think was 2013 or 14 or both those years where we had Bush Rod Garza was at center. We had Matt Slawson and then we had two rookies. We had um um Kyle Long and Jordan Mills and uh and I went for I think on close to 1400 yards that year because we just had some guys that really were in free agency. They they were good picks and then some good draft picks that ended up being that worked out well for us. Yeah, it is interesting, right? That was the best offensive output year of my lifetime as a fan. Uh you guys had a lot of weapons with yourself and Martellis, Alshon, Brandon Marshall, and then obviously Jay Cutler. But you’re right, that offensive line continuity for whatever reason. Right. And then I think the other thing people forget or at least I think is notable is between those five offensive linemen, they played all 16 games, you know, and and I think that’s something that also goes missing at times when in terms of chemistry. So I know this offensive line unit might have some talent. They certainly invested a lot of money into it, but still trying to find their groove in terms of chemistry. In terms of the running backs with DeAndre Swift and Kyle Manungai, what have you seen from those guys so far? Is there anything that you’re looking at from a critical eye standpoint or anything that intrigues you either way? Uh, I I like the kind of flashes I’ve seen from Manungai and when he’s gotten in there, he’s he’s done some some nice stuff and made the most of his opportunities and uh I haven’t really figured out his style as a running back yet because he hasn’t gotten a lot of, you know, a ton of playing time, right? Um, but when it comes to Swift, he He’s he can make these he can make plays happen. It’s just sometimes they have to where this is what what uh makes a difference when it comes to uh NFL football like when you switch teams from other teams and you transition to other places is can you create plays or make plays when there’s really it’s not blocked for the success of the play because if you block it up like DeAndre is dangerous you know he can make all the moves he’s got speed. he can take it the distance. But when you got penetration in the back field, you know, a lot of times that hinders the play and sometimes you start to as a running back start to press. As uh some of the coaches, the running back coaches I had would say, stop pressing where you’re you’re trying to make something happen so bad that you kind of miss a hole here or miss a read there. And um unfortunately, sometimes they’re just not on in sync with the O line sometimes. And it takes it takes time. It does take into the third, middle of the third, fourth quarter to start grinding the the gears where you’re like really grinding the defense down where you those runs start to pop late in the game. Sometimes that’s what how it happens. I was a guy who’s like, I need touches. I need at least, you know, seven 10 catches in different ways. Um, but then also I need 20 plus carries so that we can just like start to grind out the yards and even when it’s late in the game and you want to keep their offense off the field. um give the defense a rest and just, you know, do that. And they’ve done that a few times. There was um uh what game was that? That I think against the Cowboys maybe where they had 11 runs in a row or something like that. So, they’ve done it. They they can do it. Um it’s just, you know, can that be sustainable throughout the season? Is that something that’s going to be a regular thing? And consistency in NFL is is better than talent and and and every day. So, you’d rather be I know what I’m gonna get than somebody who gives me the flashes here and there, right? I mean, you were very impacted going into going into going into this off season. This is a question for you. Going into this off seasonason, if you had an opportunity to draft a running back, let’s say in somewhere in the first or second, first two rounds, you know, what is the what kind of running back were you looking for to come in and either compliment or be the main guy for the Bears in going into next year? Let’s say we have our offensive line, they begin to jail. Now, we can move the ball. We can press, we can wall, we can wall up to the second level and we can open lanes for our running back. Yeah, you know, everybody was talking about Genty um coming out just because of the nature of his college uh career in that in that last year, too. Um but all things being equal, like line is set and you ready to go. I was kind of confused when we went tight end because I’m like, well, we we you both, you know, somebody that’s that’s I don’t know. We just I think we had other needs in that. But I would say Genty obviously like he’s being he’s started to have some some success even where his O line has a major you know some faults where you know I think 40 or like over over like 70 80% of of his carries like start where he’s getting hit in the back field or something like that and that dude just just the nature of his size and his kind of physical build he just is a tackle breaker he’s hard to tackle So, you can’t go wrong with a pick like that. But also, uh, we could have probably snuck and got a guy like Omari Hampton who he’s a a like a bigger, taller running back. Um, he’s definitely and definitely elusive. Like I’m I’m 6’2 and and but but can be in a passing game and that gives you a matchup um ability when it comes to uh playing against different teams. Like you split a guy out, put him in the slot, you don’t know what you’re going to get. He might get a a linebacker out there, safety, so you can create those mismatches on other people. So Amari Hampton would have been a really I would have been really excited about something like that. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, running backs are obviously they they run the ball, but they have to be effective in the pass game as well. You were very effective in the pass game, and it seems like the Bears right now are trying to figure out how to utilize their running backs. Um, how how do you think that they can be a little more effective in the passing game for the Bears? I think it it’s uh when it comes to coaching and I think Ben Johnson is actually really good at this where he can put players in position to make plays. I love that’s one of the things I loved about Mike Mars when you’re in his offense and you split out or you motion out of the back field you like and you see somebody to come to guard you or whatever the defensive setup and the look you already knew whether you’re going to make a play or you’re going to open somebody else up for a big play. And I think Ben has that kind of look as the off as his system is is continuing to grow and and Caleb’s continuing to grow in his system. But I would like to see the the backs get more involved in more receiver type routes where we’re not just running checkdowns or flat routes or option routes. Hey, let me run a slant. Let me run a sluggo. Let me let me run a post route. I might be a decoy, but let me run that. You know, let let them get out there. And that’s obviously if they have the ability to do that. But um that’s something that you got to work on in offseason and even when um um what’s Adam Gase came in. I mean he would put me in the slot and I’d run like wheel routes and all kind of like different receiver routes where you’re you’re really a slot receiver and you’re just putting a the running back in there to get the mismatches on different people. And I knew by that time in the league, all right, I’m running this this this uh this goal route really to draw open the cross, you know. So, it’s you you do those things to create those um mismatches out there. And I think that is an element that we could definitely get better at. Yeah. I mean, you saw Kevin O’Connell utilize that idea in the fourth quarter against the Bears, uh putting a running back on the linebacker and Aaron Jones had a big touchdown on that play. So hopefully, you know, the Bears can find their way to that. I mean, you’re mentioning what you’re like and what you see from Ben Johnson four games into his coaching tenure here in Chicago. What are you seeing that that you’re enjoying so much? Yeah, I I enjoyed that. He when you when it comes to being a head coach, like a lot of I’ve been around really good ones and great ones, and you know, me and Lance, we played together for a long time. You’ve been around babins and there’s a difference. The truth comes out, baby. There’s a difference in like the way you are. Yeah. Like you don’t have to be the most charismatic person either or or just, you know, talk the talk. But when you follow through on each and every point that you’re trying to make or what you’re trying to build as a team, it just it’s just it comes to leadership. And I think if I’m a if I’m a GM or my um the CEO of of football operations, whatever, and I’m hiring a coach, I’m going to see the background if they did like any kind of leadership training or leadership classes or something like that. Because how do you lead people if you if you don’t know how to lead yourself, you know? So if you have been in a work because leadership is is is uh it’s difficult. First of all, it’s difficult, but then it’s it’s tricky. It’s not there’s no cookie cutter like kind of mold that you can put on it that just oh yeah, I’m a I’m He’s a born leader. Like that’s the dumbest saying I’ve ever heard in my life. Nobody’s born just like I’m a born leader. Like you have to go through and experience stuff and experience life, experience hardships because you can speak to all of these different situations. So I think Ben is that kind of guy who can be the leader of the team where guys buy in and they follow suit. If if you got a team and even even you know 1% of the team is not bought in. It’s it’s like you’re hanging off of the cliff by a chain. It doesn’t matter whether it’s the first link or the last one. If it’s weak and it breaks, everybody falls. I mean I mean for sure I mean we just talked to uh Charles Leno yesterday had him on uh former you know obviously Bears left tackle but also Commander left tackle and um I asked him who were some of his favorite teammates and and you were the first person he brought up and said that you were a great leader to him and somebody that showed him how to uh stay in shape and and be in football shape every year and things of that nature. So you certainly know what you’re talking about in terms of leadership. Go ahead, Jerry. No, go. Yeah. No, I’m sorry. So, yeah, I just thought you I didn’t mean to cut you off, but yeah, Jerry didn’t see it. Jerry Jerry didn’t have to experience it. Jerry didn’t experience it, you know, but you know, and especially in the sport of football, you know, there’s, you know, a lot of times when we dealing with our our the youth players, you know, I always explain to the parents, I’m like, this is this is an aggressive game. This is a violent game. If we don’t prepare our kids for that, we are doing them a disservice because when we go out and we play the other team that we’re going to play against, they’re going to push, they’re going to shove, they’re going to kick, they’re going to punch, and I’m not going to go over there and tell them to stop doing it. It’s about what are you going to do about it, you know? And if you have a coach that comes in and there’s punching, there’s pushing, there’s shoving, and he turns, he turns like he doesn’t see any of it, you know, or he can’t handle it. He can’t step in there and say, “Hey fellas, you guys need to break that. break that crap up, you know, or handle it or stand on his principles, you know, the whole the whole uh locker room is going to crumble. It’s going to fall apart. Yeah. You you gotta you got to be able to like it’s an aggressive game. Like there’s I you know, there was there was teammates I’ve had that were nice guys like off the field and I appreciated that. But when I’m in the huddle with you and we in the trenches, I don’t want no freaking nice guys out there. Absolutely not. Like I want I literally I want some dogs out there that’s going to really go out there like they and and at all costs they going to be put on the line. They gonna give it up because I’m doing the same thing. If they got a a 255, 260 pound linebacker come through the A gap. Hey bro, I love you enough that hey, I’m gonna take this. I’m 220 225, but I’m I’m gonna go and and sacrifice because that’s my guy and we trying to win this game. And and then when it when it comes to like the the physicality part of of just like the aggressiveness and you you can’t have a uh somebody who’s a coach who’s like trying to do the fad type of things like that just doesn’t work. It’s like it’s it’s football is is really pretty basic. Like there’s been some of the best teams I’ve been on has been where they know the play is coming and we say, “All right, we’ll stop it.” We’ve been doing it the whole game. you know it’s coming but you can’t stop it. So you can’t stop it. And and one one other one other point when it comes to coaching aspect that is a make or break thing for a team. Nobody can be bigger than than the team. I don’t care if you offense, defense. I don’t care if you’ve been a Pro Bowler every single year of your career. I don’t care if you make a 100, 200, $300 million. You’re not you’re not incapable of criticism. And that’s some of the things that we’ve had to, you know, deal with and stuff, but you not incapable of criticism or correction. I mean, this Bears team right now offensively, I feel like they don’t really have an identity. You know what I’m saying? Um, I know that Ben Johnson’s brand new and they’re trying to figure some things out offensively to get to get it going, to get things clicking, but it starts with some type of identity. You have to lay down some type of identity and the Bears just don’t really have one. Like, what are you seeing in in that sense? I’m seeing uh I mean I I think they’re going in the direction of creating one or developing one and finding that identity because um like we played a long time. We’ve been on teams that didn’t have one. Uh especially offensively, it’s like, “Okay, we’re doing this. We’re trying things.” And it gets to like week eight and we’re like, “All right, we need to start running the ball.” It’s like, “Okay, we done wasted half the year and probably lost some games.” And so like, “Okay, what’s our ident?” So then you’re kind of formulating this identity. Um it’s hard as a new coach like when you’re a brand new coach to just bam that’s our identity unless you had a a you know bunch of veterans on the team that have been there for a long time that have that continuity and and that they’ve already developed it. But I feel like he is developing a a culture and culture gives you the identity. Whatever the culture is in the locker room and in the facility you go out there if y’all a hard-nosed team. y’all practice hard and y don’t make excuses and we go out there and when you do everything necessary to get better and to play better then the identity is going to show out on the field that that’s what kind of team you are but in the details of it I can’t say what we are yet either are we a balanced attack team when it comes to it um defensively are we like uh do we take risk are we blitzing a lot or you know I can’t really say exactly offens ensive perspective what we are identity wise but I am encouraged that we’re going in that direction too in the next few weeks is going to be really fun we’re going to see if they’re going to really develop it or some hard times hit and they’re going to reset back to like okay I don’t really know what we’re doing yeah it’s going to be interesting here especially Monday night it’s a big redemption game for this team obviously the the Hail Mary last year that led to a 10-ame losing streak and obviously Tyreek Stevenson talking yesterday about owning up to what happened and trying to, you know, uh, persevere through that. Caleb Williams and Jaden Daniels have their own storyline. Ben Johnson lost to the Commanders in the playoffs last year. So, there’s going to be a lot of high emotions going into this game on Monday. Uh, just circling back to, you know, all talk in this city is always about Caleb Williams. What are you seeing from him here in year two, four games into playing under Ben Johnson? Yeah, four game games in um we’ve seen what I what I I kind of expected to see. I saw um him embrace the system that he’s in with Ben. I’ve we’ve seen some flashes of of really good stuff and then some of the stuff that reverted back to kind of um what happened last year where u I was encouraged that he didn’t throw a lot of interceptions but he was the most sacked quarterback. So, uh, when it comes to what he’s doing, I I like that when the pocket is clean, which is not going to be all the time, but when it is, he does he does execute the play. He’s going to execute the play every time. But when we get into situations where um he may be just trying to make a play or make something happen, sometimes it’s better to check the ball down or um and and also like his progression of the game. like sometimes uh there will be a missed open receiver or or you know an errant throw here or there. So getting better on those things is important going forward because like we were talking about earlier the consistency aspect of we know what we’re going to get and when you have the opportunity to um you know execute something that’s going to be like a touchdown or is this going to be a first down or something that’s important that’s meaningful within the game. You can’t miss those opportunities. All right, give us your best. I know you got to get going here soon. I don’t want to take up too much more of your time. I know you got some things going on today. Um, but I I need a I need a Brig story from you. You got You got any good ones from the locker room? We got several. I’m sure you have several guys doing that. And I know and I got a great one. Which one? Which one? Which one? Which one? What you think? What do you What? I think Lance already knows. Lance already knows. Go ahead. No, no, no, no. I’m not gonna say that. I got I got a great story for for Lance because No, Lance Lance helped me. Lance helped me as a a uh young rookie running back coming out of two lane practicing against this dude every day. First of all, like he can to me if people ask me like who’s the the best defender or guy that you like went win went against? If people saw like running backs against linebackers, I’m like it’s my own teammate. Lance because in practice I had he can Lance can first of all he can run and hit and his instincts are crazy but he can cover. He can cover and and he’s just super athletic. Like Lance used to play running back too. And so when I when I was a rookie I was like man I got like some of the stuff I was doing that was in college. I was like ah that that ain’t gonna work. You got to try something else. And so one one one practice this is when we we finally you know in camp we’re down there in Bourbanet and we get the pads on and stuff and I’m trying to earn a starting position like you know they uh uh you know rest in peace Cedric Benson but he had gotten cut and went to a different team and we had Kevin Jones there who was trying to get back on the field. We had Garrett Wolf Adrien Peterson our Adrien Peterson but I’m you know competing so I don’t know how to practice like that. I’m p I practice full speed. So yeah, you know, we we we’re doing kind of a I don’t know if it was a run drill or it was kind of it was a team drill or something, but I got the ball. Lance was getting blocked and he like spun off the block and I boom. I like I ran through him like like really hard. I didn’t like I didn’t I didn’t I don’t I don’t think he like fell down or nothing like that, but I just blasted through him or something something. Yeah, blast him right in his face. It was It was one of those It was one of those situations where it was it was like, “All right, you practicing really hard right now.” And it was one of those ones when you when you get to be a veteran player, you’re like, I can I can take care of my teammate. Like, I know how to practice. I don’t have to like do that. I know he’s coming spin. Like, I can take care of him. Um, so then the next play I’m lined up, it’s a passing play and Lance comes through the B gap and I’m just like, cuz usually, you know, we don’t bull rush and practice nothing like that. And Lance gave me a stinger like my neck was like and he man, he came and we had done like pass blitz pickup before in camp and stuff and he was doing moves and doing I was like so I’m thinking, well, Lance is kind of shifty. I don’t want to get I don’t want to get shook. And boom, he just dropped the helmet on me. I was like, “Oh my god, that that hurt. That hurt.” So that was like my welcome to the NFL moment before the game before actually getting a welcome to NFL moment in the actual game. It’s very, you know, it’s funny. It’s Hey, Matt, it’s funny you talk about that, man, because I was just talking with my linebackers uh at at the high school that I coach at, you know, about a week ago, and I was telling them about, you know, iron sharpens iron. And so I said, “Listen,” I said, “Never be afraid.” I was like, “If you want to be the best, you got to go against the best.” I said, I said, “For you guys,” I said, “For me, going against MattForte every day.” I was like, you know, it was one of those deals where it was, you know, the Erler always got the, you know, he always, so if you went up, Erler got to go first, but I would try to get as many reps as I could with you because the the ones always, you know, he always got to pick first, you know, but the only way that you can get better, I’m like, fellas, I’ll go against Matt Forte as many times as I possibly can. I said, because he’s the shiftiest guy in space. He’s the hardest guy to deal with. So, if I can find a way to slow him down and how to cover a guy like that, I can get better when it comes game time, you know. And you they were all like, “Oh, oh, you covered Matt Forte.” Well, I said, “I tried. I tried.” Hey, hey, Zoom. Zoom. I was shifty in space. I was shifting in space. Yeah. Yeah. I love it. I love it. Yeah. I love it. Well, we appreciate your time, man. I know. I think you’re heading to Midway today for for No, no. I’m I’m going to O’Hare first. Midways tomorrow. Are you taking your horse? Are you Are are you riding Gumbo? Tell us about Gumbo. Gumbac. Yeah, I got Buddy Soup. I got a uh I got a horse. What it looks like? And uh on gumbo horse. Yeah. No, he’s a palamino. He’s a quarter horse. So, um No, he he he a big dog, you know. Yeah, he big dog status, you know. What do you say to him every day? Like what do you say to him? You’re like, “Hey, Gumbo, how you doing, buddy?” Gumbo. Yeah. Yeah. I talk to him like like that, man. You know, what’s up? What’s up? What up, G? You know, you ready? You ready to ride? All right. What’s And does he respond back to you? Yeah. Yeah. Actually, DJ, he goes like Mr. Hey, horses know how to communicate. It’s It’s weird. They They definitely know how to communicate with you. And if they don’t want you on them, they they’ll let you know, too. Yeah, they wouldn’t want Briggs on them. That’s for sure. They got You got a horse. You got a I’m allergic to horses, Braggs. Thank you. Okay. You’re allergic to Sounds about right. You’re allergic to everything, Briggs. That sounds about right. Floate is going to be hitting. Uh, you got you got the horse right now. You got the horse, you got the clothing line, which hopefully you can hook Briggs up so he doesn’t look like a gym teacher like he’s looking right now. He’s got the hairs on. Uh, but you also have a book uh that you you’ve got, Stay in the Game. Uh, I don’t know if you want to tell us about this. I know you got um a signing a meet and greet signing event Saturday, October 11th, just a couple days away. uh from 4 to 6 PM at the BNN Oakbrook Center. Uh but yeah, your book’s called Stay in the Game. You want to tell us a little bit about that? Yeah. Yeah, my book is called Stay in the Game: Making the Most of Every Season. Um uh it’s it’s kind of drawn a parallel comparison between life and how football is. We’ve all learned a lot of lessons, life lessons by playing football. And there are essential life lessons going forward that continue to propel you beyond the sport. Football cannot be our identity because that’s going to end one day, right? And it already has ended. But for everybody who has some kind of career or professional um you know uh job that they do you that job is going to end someday. But when that ends, who are you? Are you still successful in in something else that you can do? A lot of us struggle within retirement from pro sports. A lot of guys go broke. A lot of guys get divorced and have issues and and family issues. But you know, God hasn’t blessed us with this amazing talent to go show it and display it on stage on a large scale and to be paid well to do it to go and blow it all away. It’s really to go and to bless other people. And so how how can we do that? Do you know your purpose within life? Cuz when we leave here, um the only thing that’s going to go go with you is who you are and what you’ve done for other people. Not no money, cars, clothes, jewelry, none of that stuff is going to stay. Uh it’s going to go with you. So, how to be successful in every season of life. Just like every season was different, there was no season that I played in the NFL that was the exact same. Everything was different. But what prepared me was the the, you know, the talent I had, the way I developed it, and the preparation aspect of wanting to be better at every single aspect of it. So, when it comes to life, it’s way better to to me to define success by the significance you have on other people. So success can be monetarily the earth, you know, the world says, okay, you you’re successful, you played ball in the NFL, you played for 10 years, whatever, but have I significantly impacted somebody else’s life to make it better? That’s the only thing that’s going to matter at the end of the day. Well, that’s good on you, man. Congrats on all your success postc career and uh we’ll make sure we continue to support and promote all the things you’re doing. We appreciate you jumping on here to the Brick by Brick podcast and uh absolutely appreciate you and and uh it was a pleasure watching your playing career in Chicago, but it was a real thrill to talk to you here today. Real quick, real quick. Um do you have a prediction for Monday Night Football? Uh Monday night I’m terrible at predictions, too, but I’ll go ahead and throw one out there. I’m going to say uh we at home, right? Oh my goodness. Oh lord. Yeah. I don’t even know. I don’t even know. This prediction is going to be terrible. Uh, okay. I I I’m going to go with redemption from from, you know, last year. Like, we don’t we don’t do the dumb thing. I think we’re a better character team now. We don’t our coach doesn’t allow us to do, you know, silly stuff like celebrate before the game is even over. So, I’m saying we going to get revenge and Ben’s going to get his revenge from losing in the playoffs last year. And then um Caleb, you know, you got the the the first round quarterbacks that people are saying, “Oh, we should have picked him instead of Kate.” So, look, I think revenge, this is a revenge game for everybody. We’re going to get it. Let’s go. Lot on the line here on Monday night. Appreciate you jumping on here today. Hopefully, we can bring you back here some sometime down the road. We are getting into things here as the Bears look ahead to the Washington Commanders. A huge Monday night football tilt. a chance for the Chicago Bears to get over 500 for the first time since midl last year as the Bears season collapsed uh before our very eyes. So, let’s get into that, Stephen. Uh we’ll do our blueprint of success for the Bears as they take on the Commanders here in week six of the NFL season. And we’ll start with you, Briggsy. Uh, Professor Briggs, let’s get your two keys to the blueprint for the Bears. Well, I’d say uh we number one, you’re going to have to win win the trenches. You know, um you’re going to get a lot of pressure from this uh this commander defense. You know, they’ll they’ll they’ll show six, bring five, they’ll they’ll show four, bring six. Um but what they do, they do a good job of getting pressure on the on the quarterback. You can see that last week against the Chargers, you know, with the the amount of sacks and QB hits that they had uh on the offensive side. They do a lot of of really nifty things, you know, but they do it well, you know. They’ll they’ll direct snap to the running back, you know, and and uh um um Merritt Crosskey Merritt exova Wildcat, he does a real good job on the ground. Uh you’re also going to have to contain uh Jaden Daniels, you know, um uh Debo Samuels. They have a lot of weapons. So, you know that it’s but but it starts up front. You have to win the dog on trenches. This is a the revenge game for Montes Sweat. Let’s see if this is becomes a a a marquee game for him, which we really needs. How many sacks do the Bears have right now? Five. Five. Five sacks. Five. There’s five different players with one sack on the team. That’s not good. They have five players leading the team in sacks, but the only problem is they only have a sack. That is not good. That has to change immediately. So, you’re right, Lance. I mean, it’s the trenches. They got to change something there. Yep. Yep. Uh yeah, you saw it here last week, Lance. 111 yards for Big Bill, as they call him. Um uh and it’s going to be interesting to see if the Bears cuz the Bears run game or run defense has been non-existent. It’s been real bad. So I don’t you know they’re going to hopefully they’ve made the correct adjustments here in the bye-week. You do have TJ Edwards and Kyler Gordon returning. How do you think that they could help potentially um with this run defense trying to get fixed here? Uh well, you know, it’s going to be it’s going to be bigger than them. What I do like about like let’s say uh Kyler is he he he he plays downhill. He makes a lot of plays on the other side of the ball. So he his addition will help. However, getting into your gaps, Braggs, is not a like that’s that’s not rocket sciences, you know? It’s not it’s not rocket science at all. And it’s just about knowing where your gap is supposed to be, playing downhill when it’s a run and and putting your pad on his. And so, um, I don’t know if bringing in those players makes a a consistent change in what’s happening. They’re going to help. Yes, there’s going to be plays that they make, but if they run the ball, if they run the ball 10 times, you know, Kyler Gordon’s going to make, you know, maybe three of those plays, there’s still seven plays that aren’t accounted for, that aren’t going to Kyler, that that are going to the players that haven’t been getting into their gaps the the previous games. So, you got to sack up and do what you do what you’re supposed to do. Yeah, it sounds like it’s all about playing with discipline. You know what I’m saying? Playing with uh great technique, anticipation, you know what I mean? So th those are the things that we want to see and those are the things that have to happen to be successful. So you’re exactly right. They have to play with some discipline. Absolutely. All right, Lance, let’s get into your second key for the blueprint of success for the Bears versus the Commanders. I think second key is you got to watch it watch the the the the film. Know their tendencies. I think this is a tendency high team. you know, they motion certain guys certain ways and they do specific things out of it, you know. So, if you’re paying attention during the week, you know, you’re paying attention during the week and say, “Okay, listen on this down a distance when they motion like this.” 65% of the time these they’re either running this or they’re running that. That really narrows down for you. You know what I mean? Use your athleticism, but use all of that stuff. Use your keys. But know that they’re only running two plays out of this formation when they motion like this. There’s only two plays. So be ahead of the game. So pay attention to what their tendencies are. Find You’re always looking for the 100% tendency. Find the tendencies that are high and play what you see. Play what the hell you see. Absolutely. Um so uh Jerry, let’s get into yours. The two keys for you on how the Bears can beat the Commanders. Yeah. Starting off with number one, it’s about slowing down the commanders no huddle. So, this is going to be a little different that the Bears haven’t really seen, you know, defensively. They haven’t really seen a lot of no huddle, but um the commanders are known to go uptempo, you know, and try to get people off balance. That’s their number one thing to get people off balance and actually test their conditioning as well and test their focus. Um once you speed things up, then um you’re forcing the team to to um you’re giving them you’re trying to get them at a disadvantage. You’re trying to speed them up. Um obviously they know where they’re going and you don’t know where they’re going. So you have to kind of catch up to that. And if they can speed up that process and be successful at it, they can, you know, really hurt you. So it’s going to be interesting to see how the Bears, you know, counter that because they haven’t really seen a lot of it. But there’s going to be a lot of uptempo. you know, no huddle is really difficult. You know, um you have to account for everybody to make sure that you know where everybody is on the football field and then execute your defensive plan behind that. But if you’re playing well defensively, right, like sometimes no huddle can come back to haunt you as an offense, you get your team off the field a little too quickly. And so there are some meth, but they’ve had but they’ve had a lot of success doing, you know, and that’s why they do it is because they have a lot of success and they also have a nice little rotation of guys, too. They they play with a committee of running backs and a committee of wide receivers and they spread the ball around. So it this this could create some problems for the Chicago Bears. There’s some mismatch problems as well. So there is you just nailed it right there with the mismatch. So they’re essentially because of how much they try to utilize no huddle. Is it essentially because they want to find a certain personnel grouping and once they have that then they’re going to they’re going to run no huddle. Exactly. they’re going to keep it on there and you you have to defend that because you have no time to really substitute and adjust to that. So, defensively they’re going to have to be focused. They’re going to have to be locked in on their keys and um they’re going to have to be doing some things that obviously they haven’t really they haven’t really been um they haven’t seen it too much, but they’re going to see a lot of no huddle and it’s going to be interesting to see how they adjust to that. See, I think that’s why it is important Kyler Gordon returns because he is able to do so many different things, not just as a nickel corner, but somebody that can play in the box, play at the line of scrimmage, make damage in behind the line of scrimmage, whether it’s in the run game or quick pass. And hopefully he can pick up right away, too, because he hasn’t played this whole season, you know, so we we don’t really know exactly where he is or where he stands, you know, physically. But we will find out. We will definitely find out. And it’s not going to be easy for him, too. He’s going to get his conditioning tested and they’re going to run right at him also because like you said, he’s going to be in that box and he’s going to be asked to cover wide receivers too in in a hurry up offense. So, this this defense will get tested and Kyler will definitely get tested as well. It’s going to be scary. I’m scared. All right. Be ready for it. Key number two for you. Yeah. So, key number two is basically to challenge the commander secondary. I think that um when you look at the Commanders defense, I think up front in the trenches, they are strong. They get after the quarterback, you know, they get after the quarterback. They they shoot gaps. They put pressure all over the place. And I think last week, I think they had five sacks, you know. Yep. Five sacks against the Chargers. And the Chargers are a really good team. And they did this on the road. So, Yep. They had five sacks. Yeah. Five sacks. So, they did that on the road. But the secondary, but the secondary is very vulnerable. Like they give up some big time plays. Um, and with with guys that we have on on the offensive side of the ball with Rome ascending to being that number one wide receiver, I think that he has an opportunity to go off. So, we’re going to have to find that protection for for Caleb Williams to get the ball in the air to take some deep shots and some intermediate shots at the secondary that’s a little vulnerable. I think that we can crease them for sure. Yeah, that’ll be take what take what the defense is giving. Take what the defense is giving. I know Rome is ascending. Yes, he’s ascending, but if Rome’s not there, we have weapons. Take what they’re giving. Don’t try to force it to Rome. You know, if Rome is there and they’re giving that that route to to us, take it. But if it’s Zakius, take it. If it’s Lelin, take it. If it’s KT, take it. If it’s DJ Moore, take it. You know what I’m saying? Does that make sense? So, also is Colston Lovelin. You know, I know that he’s been hurt a little bit, but he’s a top 10 pick. Okay. Um, we need to get him involved into this offense and I want to see what he has. You know, as a top 10 pick, we need to implement him. And I know that he’s been hurt and things like that, but now is the perfect opportunity if he’s playing to to actually showcase him and feature him. And I think that with this I think with this secondary, the secondary for the commanders is not really that great. So intermediate routes, I think deep over routes to Coloulston. I think that he can really eat. You know, Coulson has a really great upsize and athletic ability, catches the ball well in space, and he’s great with the ball in his hand and and running with the football. So, if you can stretch this defense and and get him into the secondary where it’s a little uncomfortable and and settle down, you know, about 20 yards downfield, I think that he can go off. But they have to get the ball to him. And we haven’t seen that yet. You know, like I said, he’s been hurt a little bit. Yep. and he hasn’t been on the football field, but he is a top 10 pick. Okay, we need to feature this kid. We I want to see this kid go off. I’m tired of top 10 picks with so much upside that we draft. Show me the dog on upside. Right. Right. I mean because if you look at Warren, that’s his name, right? I mean I mean he’s going off. Yeah, I think he’s leading all tight ends. I think he’s leading all tight ends, not just rookie tight ends. All tight end tight ends receiving yards, you know. So, but you’re talking that’s real upside right there. Hell yeah. All right. Well, time out there, El Boogie. You know, I know you like picking on these top 10 picks, but Tyler Warren is on a team that he’s the second option where Loveland is maybe the fourth option, fifth option when he’s available. He’s been hurt the last couple weeks. Then why the hell draft him top 10? Well, they didn’t know he was going to get hurt. They didn’t plan on him being hurt for two weeks. I’ve been listen I I’ve never I I just don’t it’s rare for me this year that a top 10 pick is the fourth fifth option. You know what I mean? Like talk to me. Maybe I’m crazy. The Bears are so good. They need to feature him more. He needs to be featured. He just didn’t realize how good the Bears were. He needs to be featured. But now they are. And so Lovelin, yes, is is still working his way up. I mean, look at Rome last year, right? He he didn’t have this huge year. Now he’s had a touchdown in every game this season. top 10 pick. He’s playing like a top 10 pick now. So, I agree with you. It’s it’s once sounds like Lovelin’s going to be back for Monday. When they did try to implement him against the Cowboys, he had a few catches to start the game and then he got hurt. So, he hasn’t been back since. So, it is time for him to start getting involved in this offense. I agree with you and I agree that it’s fair to have uh high expectations for him as a top 10 pick. But, I do I feel very strongly you will eventually see that. Um, maybe as soon as maybe as soon as Monday. Maybe you’re going to see it on Monday Night Football. Time out. Time out. Time out. Break Monday Night Football. You just got done saying that don’t force it. You got weapons all over the field and and take what the defense gives you. But now you’re saying let’s make sure we get Lovelin involved. So you can’t you saying both you’re trying you’re you trying to use my words against me. Now, now what I what I did say yes I what I said was don’t try to force it to Rome. Don’t try to force it to Rome because we have weapons. If it’s open to Lovelin, throw it to him. Yeah. You know, if it’s open to DJ, throw it to him. But let’s not force it that way if if that’s not what the defense is giving. Yep. That’s all. Well, in this Well, with this secondary that they’re facing, I think that we can spread the wealth around. I think that we have talent all over the place, you know, but we we have to try it. We have to throw the ball deep. It has to be pushed like 20 yards and deep like deep go routes. I want them to test this secondary because I feel that the secondary has vulnerabilities. There’s deficiencies there and we can attack them. Yep. Well, as the the residential excuse maker for the Bears and the the Bears bootlicker, I will say the first Where’s that spray at? The first Hey, I used to defend you guys, too. All right, so now I’m defending the new Bears. Uh, so yeah, I will say the first couple games I do think they were in a lot of 12 personnel. You did see Lovelin on the field a lot. Uh, but they were using them as block to block. We saw him block. If Lovelin gets hurt this game, I’m going to be pissed. I’m sure he’d be pissed too if that’s what happened. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen. But I know from what I saw at camp, he I feel very strongly anybody that’s selling stock on Lovelin because he hasn’t shown it yet. Go ahead. I’ll buy all the stock on Coulson Lovelin uh all day because I think that he is going to be a very good player once uh they start football. I promise it will happen just whenever it does happen. I’ll get into my two keys here now. Uh uh my first key is it’s a it’s a pretty easy one. It’s contain. Uh you know, obviously Jaden Daniels is a dual threat quarterback. Uh but he always keeps his eyes downfield, you know, even when he’s escaping the pocket. You know, he did come back from an injury last week. I was monitoring that pretty closely. He looked pretty good for the most part. I think he was protecting himself a little bit. Um probably not running as much as he normally would. Uh there was one time where he slipped up and um when he got up he was kind of limping a little just a little bit of a limp. Um, I do think he takes a lot of to if I was a Commander fan, there are times where he takes hits. I’m like, “Dude, what are you doing? You just came back from injury and he got twisted up and hit by like three guys at one point to get like one or two more yards. Like, chill, dude.” Like, that’s how I’m looking at it. If I’m a Commander fan, if I’m a Bears player, I’m noticing, hey, this guy’s going for that extra yard or two. And if I’m Lance Briggs, I’m popping that dude. Come on now. But if I’m a commander if I’m a commander fan, I’m loving it. You know what I mean? Like he fights. Like if I’m a Commander teammate, I’m loving it. I want to fight for this guy right here because he’s putting all of his upside into this play right now. Yeah, for sure. Do you realize how many parallels there are to last season at this time? We’re coming off our most exciting win of the season. We go into our by-week. We got the Commanders and Jaden Daniels is coming off an injury. That is exactly the same script. Yeah. Last year it was a a broken rib for Jaden Daniels. He’s wearing that flack jacket, I want to say. And this year he looked great last year too. I also but I also think the difference there is a difference between last year and this year and last year is I I think the Jaguars win was a little deceiving with the way they dominated that team whereas this win against the Raiders like they coasted against the Jags. It was a great game. We had a great time in London. Uh we also had a great time in Vegas. But the way they won that game, the way they earned it at the end, the way they fought through the adversity and Max Crosby wrecking that game, I I was impressed by that. The We talked about it at the beginning of the year. Show some toughness. This team lacked mental toughness and um you know, they slipped against Minnesota. They blinked against Minnesota and let them steal a game from them. Well, they stole a game from the Raiders uh at the end because they they they their mental toughness stayed in the game. The young guys did well as well. Yeah, absolutely. They played very well against Crosby. Crosby is a beast. He is a beast. But you’re exactly right. They have to contain Jaden Daniels for sure. I mean, he’s a dual threat quarterback. He can run all over the place, but not only him, but just everyone. They have to contain everyone. You know, they can’t let people just go off on them. They got to stop the dog on run. We can’t stop the run. I think the Bears what? Dead last and stopping the run. That and when you talk about the run, I mean with with Daniel Jaden Daniels had 40 yards on eight carries. So, he’s he’s one of those guys. So, uh obviously Jakori Kroski Merritt, they call him XUFA guy. XUFA guy. What do you mean except all that enemy right now? Did he end his UFA? Did he go somewhere else? He played one game there. He played one game at the enemy, Lance. He’s He’s the U of A guy. What are you saying? He’s the enemy. I’m just saying we have to stop him. We have to stop him. Yeah. And you’re adding in this whole U of A thing. My goodness. Do you have the stats? How many Arizona shirts do you have? Golly. Hopefully more than just that one. Golly. Can you zip that thing off? Yeah. Neck too big, buddy. No. No. No. No. No. You’re going to pop that a off. No. Okay. What do you got for us, Stephen? Yeah, I I got some Cory Crosky merit stats that are honestly are going to frighten us. So, uh, is PFF rush grade? Number one out of 43 qualified running backs with at least 30 attempts. Yards per attempt 6.6 yards per carry. Oh my goodness. First, you know what this spells? And then what’s our run defense ranked? 30 seconds. Yeah, pretty much last. Guess what’s coming. Yeah, we already know what’s going to come. They’re going to contain. I watched a lot of Crossky Merritt film and one thing I noticed is he always falls forward for two, three extra yards. And here’s another stat for you. Yards before contact, 2.2. That’s second in the NFL. Yards after contact 4.4 also second in the NFL. And this is just limited touches. So maybe with more volume he gets a little bit less efficient, but I mean still like right now the Bears have to be keying in on this. Well, and you know, a lot of what they do is they’ll be in pistol or whatever and and run that RPO. Yeah. And so you have to you have to always keep in account what Jaden Daniels is doing. That’s going to hold certain players, linebackers or defensive ends on the edge because they’re worried about Jaden. And in the last game, there was more than a few times where they were running those plays where I’m like, Jaden’s not running right now. Like, sell out on the run. But if you the minute you do that, Jaden, send your defensive end after you send your defensive end after the the quarterback every time. They’re sending they’re leaving the defensive end wide open. You send him go hit the quarterback every time. You allow the the run the linebackers to play the running back. All right. That makes you make make a decision right now. And it puts it and it tells us where the ball has to go. kind of. Yeah, I I hope Sweat goes off, too. I mean, this is his X team and he needs to come alive because we haven’t really seen much of Sweat come alive, but hopefully this game he comes alive and he plays in a balanced type of position. Like, obviously, we have to stop the run. Like, that’s rule number one. We have to stop the run, but we have to create this pressure, too. We can’t just let Jaden Daniels just stay in the pocket, you know, just untouched and and no pressure. We have to get to him. I don’t know what’s been going on the past four games, but hopefully in the in the bye, they figure some things out. We’re able to get some pressure because we have five guys leading with one sack. It’s just not good in the NFL right now. Good enough. I’d be calling out every one of those guys. You got D I I’ll And there’s a lot of money over there. Exactly. They’re the fifth They They have the fifth most money in the NFL uh invested in their defensive line. The fifth most of any team that invests just specifically in their D line. 30 million to Dio Dango. Montes is what makes the most of anybody on this twe team. It’s not just about money. It’s about what you do on the field. But at the end of the day, that’s why they paid these guys with the expectation that they were going to come up. Now everybody’s talking about, “Oh, well, when Austin Booker comes here, come on. Step up guys. You You’re the guys. You’re the guys.” And so hopefully Grady Jarrett can return from his injury. I did like a little bit of what we saw from Shamar Turner. I know Briggs, you were big on him the night we drafted him. Um, you know, on the final play when they stop before the block kick on that third down, Kevin Bard makes the big tackle. If you go back and watch that play, Shamar Turner gets big penetration up the middle that blows that play up from the line of scrimmage that allowed Kevin Byer to make that. So hopefully Shamar Turner continues to um develop and and become a player that that can be a differencemaker on that defensive line. Um, so, uh, you brought up Montes Sweat playing his former team and this is my final key here in this game and this has been kind of my word of the week and it’s composure. This team needs to have composure on Monday night because there is going to be a lot of emotions whether it’s Montes Sweep facing his former team, Tyreek Stevenson trying to redeem himself from the fail Mary of last year that’s going to be played over and over and over. Jaden Daniels versus Caleb Williams, the number one versus number two pick. Caleb Williams returning to his hometown in Washington DC. Ben Johnson facing the team that knocked him out of the playoffs last year. There’s so many different things from an emotional standpoint. It’s Monday Night Football, prime time. You know, it two teams last year that went in two different directions after that loss on the Hail Mary last year. So, I just think emotions are going to be running high for the Chicago Bears. They have an opportunity to get to three and two. And the mental toughness is something I’ve been talking about for weeks now with this team and I’m I’m seeing improvement on that. This is going to be a big test for this team on Monday night to continue to show uh good signs in that regard. Also, just no errors, you know, like penalties, you know, this penalties is something like especially pre- snap penalties, like we just can’t have that anymore. So, hopefully they got that stuff corrected in the in the um in the by-week, but we can’t allow that stuff. We can’t shoot ourselves in the foot constantly and then expect great things to happen for our offense. Yep. So with with that composure, just make sure that you guys are focused in, locked in on the game mentally and and don’t don’t make any errors that you that that are unforced. Yeah, I agree. Um I think the I think Washington had seven penalties last week against the Chargers. So they’ve got some things to clean up in that regard. And then the Bears had let’s take a look here. How many penalties they had? They had eight penalties last week for six yards uh against the Raiders. So, you got to clean that up. Uh you can’t keep giving your team chances, the other team chances like that, right? Chances and opportunities. It’s too much. So, I think that wraps things up here for the blueprint here uh that we continue to give the Chicago Bears. And I know they appreciate it. They’ve been listening the last few weeks and that’s why they’re back to 500. And so now if they listen this week, they’re going to be on a legitimate three-game winning streak. We’ll have to wait and see. Onto a 10-ame winning streak. That would be really nice after the 10ame losing streak that took 10 years off of my life uh last year. So that’d be really nice if they can make up for that. So they owe us. All right. Well, that wraps things up for the Blueprint uh segment here. Make sure you hit the like button as you always do here on the Brickby Brick podcast. And now we will move over to our awardwinning segment with our good friends over at Circa Sports Illinois. And that is with the Bats. The Bets. That’s right. hit the bets is uh we are looking at the NFL betting lines here in week six of the season uh for the NFL and uh you can get those lines at circusportsillinois if you download your new bookie today at circasports.com once again must be 21 or older gambling problem call 1800gambler all right well let’s start off with the bears and commanders line here and shout out to circa Stephen and I spent a solid week there. Uh, and really enjoyed all their amenities from their stadium swim to the to the sports book and hanging out with some different guys. Uh, Aaron and and you know the big dog the big dog over there. Yeah, that’s right. Derek and and all them guys. So, it was it was a real pleasure to be there and they they taught us a lot about what what sports betting is all about. Sounds like you guys are still there. I wish I was still there. That’s why I’m there. I do wish I was still there because Sounds like you’re there. I do wish I was still there because we spent the by-week. We’re like, “All right, let’s get through the bye-week. We’ll be in Vegas. We don’t have to do any work.” Well, it’s like this is still a byee. The Bears don’t play till next week. We should have stayed for two weeks. Now, my wife probably wouldn’t have appreciated that uh as we’re trying to buy a new car next week, but uh we’ll see how that goes. So, let’s get back to the betting line. I’m sorry, but yes. Uh, so the the Bears are are 4 and 1/2 point underdogs here in Washington. The overunder set at 49 and a half. Jerry, what do you got for us? I think that we’re going to see some points. I like the over on this one. I think the ball will be in the air. Obviously, the the Commanders are going to try to come out and run just based off of all the the stat the statistics that are out there about the Bears defense not being able to stop the run, but the ball’s going to be in the air, you know, and it’s going to be Monday Night Football, prime time. I think the ball is going to be uh in the Caleb is going to be throwing the ball all over the place, I believe, because obviously the deficiencies in the secondary for the Commanders and then vice versa. I think, you know, if there’s no pressure that’s getting to Jada to uh to Jaden, then he’s going to be throwing the ball downfield as well and testing our secondary. So, absolutely. You know, um just based off of those statistics, I think the ball is going to be in the air and I think there’s going to be some points on the board. Um the one thing that I do like about the Bears is that they take the ball away. Yep. You know, they take the ball away and they’ve been doing that and I think that that continues on. There’s going to be opportunities, you know, for this secondary to make plays. So if if they could be ball hawks like they’ve been, you know, in the past couple of games, then I think that they they’re going to take the ball away and give themselves a better chance and opportunity to win the game. Absolutely. Lance, I like the over. Lance, what do you got on it? Listen, um Bears defense couldn’t they can’t stop anybody run on the on the ground right now. Oh, when they come in that that uh or haven’t even proven it right now. So on that first 10 to 15 play run script, there’s going to be more than 50% of those are going to be run plays. And if the Bears aren’t able to stop the run, why wouldn’t they why wouldn’t they stop doing it? They’re going to continue to run the ball down the Bears throat until the Bears can can prove that they can stop somebody um and pray that that we do take the ball away. Um because that’s been the only that’s been the saving factor for our defense is has been the takeaways. Now, on the flip side, um um you know, with a questionable defensive backfield, yeah, the Bears are should be taking shots. You This should be a game where Roma Dunce stands up. DJ Moore, uh Zakius Loveland, the top 10 pick. Yeah. Uhhuh. All of that stuff. So, it makes for an interesting game where you have one team that’s going to run that’s going to run the ball consistently, one team that’s going to uh uh test them down the down the field. Um, if we’re successful, then it should be a it should be a high-scoring game and that 49 points that Zoom is talking about is going to look good. However, I do think the Bears cover that four and a half and it’s a game that’s going to be won by three points. Mhm. Okay, I like it. I agree with you. Let me ask you guys this. between Roma Dunes who’s having, you know, the best season on the Bears right now with his five TDs. We’ve got uh DJ Moore who two seasons ago against the same Commanders team went for eight catches, 230 yards and three T three TDs and laminated Zakias who this is a revenge game for him. He played with the Commanders last year. Yep. Who do you think is most likely to go off for the Bears out of that wide receiver trio? I mean that’s a tough one. I obviously DJ has he’s he’s had success last year. So I think that he’s four touchdowns right against Washington a couple years ago. Three. Three. Yeah. Yeah. I would say DJ. You know, it’s time it’s time for DJ to have a breakout game also. And last year he had one against this team. So I we need to run that back. I say DJ because they’re going to be keying they’re going to be keying on on Rome, especially in the red zone. They’re going to be keen on Rome because he’s he’s been magnificent in the red zone. Obviously scoring five touchdowns in the past four games. But DJ, he has an opportunity to go off. If I had to pick one of those three, it’d be uh Coleston Leland because he’s a top 10 pick. All right. We should we have to use him and that upside has to come out right this week. Oh my goodness. Laora Le, I think you’ll see that. I think you’ll see that. Um, yeah. I don’t know. I I I mean, I’ll just keep going to Rome. I I know. I mean, he’s that good. I mean, he’s that dude. So, and yeah, Cole about him as well. Yeah. Get the little baseball bat in there. Yeah. I mean, he hasn’t hit a home run in a long time. Well, he had a he had a touchdown a couple weeks ago, right? Yeah. But we need to see more home runs against the Cowboy. Well, we need some home runs at Wrigley Field tonight. Okay. That’s what we need. You’re now you’re muted there. Now you’re swinging and missing himself because you’re muted. He’s doing it right. Oh, that was accidental. That was accidental. My my finger touched the the the mouse pad. Sorry about that. That’s okay. It’s okay. That’s okay. Arthritic fingers. Yeah. Oh man. He’s also getting much closer to the screen and his head’s getting He’s going to eat the screen. All right, let’s look at the week six NFL slate as we’re starting a round third here on the Brickby Brick podcast. Please hit that like button while you hang out. Shout out to Circus Sports as we continue to give the betting lines here on our award-winning segment, Duh Bets. Uh and we got the Eagles and Giants on Thursday Night Football coming up in just a few minutes. That should be fun. Uh that should be a fun game. Obviously, Jackson Dart is one and one so far in his career. He might eat a dub. might uh the Eagles, you know, coming off that upset loss from, you know, against the Broncos. So, Giants might be in trouble tonight if the Eagles are It’s interesting with the Eagles, too. They’re the first Super Bowl team in NFL history to have the other team get more yards than them in each of their first five games. Really, they’ve been out yardaged. And I’m not a metrics guy. I’m not I keep bringing up all these numbers. I don’t know what’s been going on lately with me with the numbers, but maybe Hog and his nerdness is rubbing off, but uh so I find that interesting, but uh let’s let’s look at the slate. We’ll go through it one more time real quick. The Broncos and the Jets in London. That’ll be the early morning game on Sunday. I like having an early morning Sunday game. It’s nice, you know, uh have as many games separate so we can kind of isolate them and enjoy them. We’ll see if uh Justin Fields can win a game this year. I know they’ve been going through it in New York on go. The Jets franchise as a whole is just not in a great spot. But Justin’s having a good year. Justin’s having a decent year um wins and losses. Yeah, it’s the Jets and the concussions. Yeah, the Jets are just a mess. But you also are very good defense. Very good. Very good. So that’s going to be a tough game in London. But all bets are off when you got to travel overseas. You got Rams and Ravens at 12 PM on Sunday. Lamar Jackson still out. Uh but that’s a game for the Bears to monitor as the Ravens have a lot of injuries. I think Stephen told me they had eight defensive seven seven defensive starters missed that last game. Rams got to be licking their chops. They do. And the Bears play the Ravens here very soon. So the Ravens can’t sustain too many more injuries on the defensive side. It’s going to be tall order. They just traded a guy, too. Yeah. So, I’m not sure what they’re trying to do over there in terms of spiraling outlook. And then you’ve got the Cardinals and the Colts. That’s going to be an interesting game. Jerry, the Cardinals love to figure out ways to lose. Well, the Cardinals lost in You think the Bears last year in the Hail Fail Mary game was an epic way to lose. The way the Cardinals lost last week was epic proportions. Uh, dropping that off on the doorstep demarcado. But uh Jerryardo uh you had some thoughts I saw on Twitter of Jonathan Ganon approaching uh Demarcado after the play. One of his teammates is kind of consoling him. Jonathan Ganon comes up to him on the sidelines and and was pretty tough on him. I think it looked like he slapped him in the chest. It was ridiculous. That should have never have happened. Look, we know that De Maro messed up. He knows that. He feels like absolute crap. Obviously, they were his teammates were around his teammates who were around him. What’ you say? He said big dummy. Big dummy. He was big dummy for that. That was big dummy. We And we know we we we got that. You know, we we understand that. But at the same time, like his teammates got around him and were like, “Look, man. Like whatever happened happened. Like, let’s move forward. We’re still up 21 at to six at that point when that happened. You know, we just have to do we what we’re doing and then we’ll win this game.” So, the game wasn’t over then. Obviously, they could he could have put him up 28-6 at that moment, but that didn’t happen. But to put it all on him that this this whole game was just on this fumble and and this loss was just on this fumble was just absolutely nonsense. Like there was enough bad stuff to go around that game and the the way that they ended the game, including the coaches with some of the play calls that they had absolutely ridiculous. It was enough blame to go around and that’s why they lost that game. But to put your hands on a grown ass man is absolutely ridiculous. Like that should never happen. Point blank period. And people are kind of defending and saying that you know what, like he almost deserved it or it was it was nothing. Look, it might if you’re if you’re younger and you’re in college and things like that, it might be a little different. But when you’re dealing with grown ass men, you keep your damn hands to yourself. Keep your damn hands to yourself. Everybody Everyone knows that. Yeah. But here’s the thing, man. Like, I’m not here to defend uh what this de Marcato Jonathan. No, no, no. I’m talking about D Marcato. Like a real man, you know, and then if you allow somebody to do that, you know what I mean? That’s on you. That’s on you. You know, like like I’m at at principal, at principal, there’s there’s there’s there’s no man that’s going to put his hands on me and without there being some sort of consequence on that. I don’t and I don’t care if that was my rookie year to my very last year, you know, there was nobody’s going to do that. So, I’m not here to defend him because he allowed that coach to do that as well. You know what I mean? He I saw the head butt. The headbutt and then that last slap at the end. No, we’re going to we’re going to we’re going to saw that on the sideline. Yeah. His wife saw that. Yeah. So, you know, but but grown men, you listen, you got to stand up for your dog on self. That’s that’s on you. And I like I if that happened to Jerry, I would stand in and defend Jerry in the moment. Like if if Lovey did that and I would stand in right then and I would defend Jerry for Jerry because I love Jerry that much. You know what I mean? But any other man you got to defend yourself. But that’s also a lack of leadership. You know it’s a cheap shot. Like obviously we know how he feels. You know everybody knows that he feels like crap. But in in terms of like leadership as a head coach that’s your moment where you could have came in and said you know what like I understand the the magnitude of the situation but we still need you. We still need you to be in this game. like let’s go out there and like let’s finish what we started. We’re up 216. Let’s keep on going. You know, in in terms of leadership, I think that that was tested and I just didn’t like the the leadership that the the leadership that was shown or displayed at that that particular moment. Yeah. And uh Jonathan Ganon got fined $100,000 for that by the team. It was good to see that. You should have a black eye. You should have a black eye. Yeah. It’s it’s no violence, Lance. No violence. Well, don’t play football. You don’t want football. Well, that wasn’t We’re on the sideline now, Lance. We’re not on the field. You can take a charge in basketball. Yeah, but you know, a lot of guys act tough, man. A lot of guys want to flip a flip a ice chest or they want to throw their helmet on the ground. You know what I mean? Like, listen, none of that stuff, none of that stuff tells me you’re a tough guy. You know what I mean? It doesn’t make you tough or anything like that. You go out there in this violent game and be violent and play violent. That’s that’s what that’s what the real men do, you know? And so on the sideline, you know, on the sideline when you’re supposed to be able to to go over and review what’s going on right now, talk about things with your coach and your coach is putting his dog on hands on me, you know. No, we going No, we’re we’re about to tussle right now. We going to touch everything on the sideline right now. We’re all going to get fine and you’re going to come up with a black. Everybody going to get fine. Everybody gonna get fine. Fine. We’re getting fine. Yeah. I mean, and it happens like heated situations on the sideline. It happens. You know, coaches scream at at players, players scream at coaches. Like it that’s we we want to win, you know? There’s a lot of passion. There’s a lot of fire in there, but we’re not out there swinging and hitting people. Like that’s just ridiculous. Like you go out on the football field to to do that. But to come back and just disrespect a a grown ass man, you know, in front of the rest of your team, you know, that’s just a bad quality. It’s just you’re showing bad leadership. Yeah. Very bad leadership. You preach You preach You preach self-control. You got to have control out there. You know what I mean? you’re you’re where it’s it’s controlled chaos. It’s control discipline is controlled chaos, you know, and then you can’t control yourself. You can’t control your own emotions out on the field as a coach, you know. Listen, players, you know, we we take on the the the identity of our head coach. Our coach can’t control his own damn self, right? That’s a problem. Yeah. And I mean the co that coach is what 13 and 25. Yeah. You know, 13 and 25. Smacking himself. I didn’t say that, but maybe you might need to get comply. Um, so yeah, let’s get into the rest of the NFL slate here real quick. Uh, but yes, Jonathan Ganon definitely out of line there. Bengals at Packers. Joe Flacco starting for the Bengals at Green Bay. Adam Hog will be at the game getting intel on both teams. He already played against the Packers, too. So yeah, he already beat the Packers. So probably be one of the first quarterbacks to be able to ever beat same team twice. Let’s go season with two different teams. Then you got the Flaco. All right. Now you got 49ers at Buccaneers. That’s going to be a big matchup on Sunday at 3:25. Baker the baller. Yeah, Baker the baller. Baker maybe the NBA. Then you got Lions at Chiefs Sunday Night Football. The Lions are rolling and the Chiefs are reeling under 500 and maybe that’s going to continue here this week. Let’s look at the betting lines real quick. We’ll run through them quickly because I know we got to get going here, but you got uh Bengals, Packers. Uh you got the you got the the overunder set at 44 and a half. Uh so it should be interesting to see if the Packers can win that game, but probably take the under in that one. Let’s go. Just throw it to the playmates. Come on. They’re right there. They’re everywhere. Then you got Eagles and Giants. Once again, if you go to if you go to Circa, download the Circus Sports Illinois app, you can get all of these odds here at your disposal. Got the Eagles as seven-point favorites. The overunder set at 40 for here just in a few moments for Thursday Night Football. And then of course here, we’ll continue to move things along. You got the Broncos and Jets here. Uh so it should be interesting as the Broncos are the favorites over the Jets here in London over under set at 43 and a half as we continue to roll through these. The Colts Cardinals you got the Colts as the favorites. Kyler Murray may or may not play in this game apparently still. I know he had a concussion when Yeah. the ball when that ball hit off his head. It’s not funny. He got a concussion off of that. He really did. He really He was concussed off of that. Yeah, I heard that. He’s like questionable potentially for this game. Steven’s uh fact checking cuz sometimes I just say things into the mic that may or may So the ball bounced off his helmet and he got concussed. He he did not practice yesterday, but it was due to a foot injury. Okay. So the concussion is fine. Ball off the head’s fine. But yeah, he has a foot injury. Big dummy. A little little dummy for a little dummy. It’s worth mentioning he only missed three snaps last game. He did finish that game. So I would expect him to play, but it’s worth monitoring. And that’s why we love Stephen. He gets the facts straight as the meatball just yells things into the mic. Uh Ravens Rams. Uh you got the Rams is seven seven and a half point. Yeah. Well, the Ravens without Lamar Jackson got the doors blown off them against Houston and they have all these defensive injuries. So, you got the overunder set at 45. So, that should be They’re going downhill coolick. Yeah. And then uh Chiefs and or you got Bucks and 49. This is going to be a game. Yeah, this is going to be This is going to be a game. Yeah, for sure. Baker cooking. Yeah. And and then I wonder if it’s Brock Pury, right? Yeah, he’s back. Yeah, Max. Oh. Oh, max out. Yeah, Brock Pie’s back in now. He’s out. Back. Arizona product. Perie, the quarterback that Mark Harmon wishes Tyson Beijing was. All right, so we got Chiefs, Lions, uh, coming up here on Sunday Night Football. Two and a half point favorites for the Chiefs at home. Are you surprised by that? Because the Lions Very surprised by that. Are you? Yeah, the Lions. I mean, when’s the last time the Chiefs were home dogs? It’s been a while. I mean, the the Chiefs aren’t really They’re up and down. The Lions have found a lot of consistency. So, I just don’t even understand this line. What’s Vegas hiding? Vegas, come on, call me up. I mean, their offensive output here without Ben Johnson has been pretty impressive. I think we all we all expected them to kind of take a little bit of a step back, not just with their uh losing their offensive play caller in Ben Johnson, but their offensive line took a pretty big hit. Yeah. And they haven’t skipped a beat Briggs. The first game they took a step back, but they have taken many steps forward. Yes, they have definitely figured it out quick. You asked when the last time the Chiefs were home dogs was two weeks ago against the Ravens. They won 37 to 20. Chiefs sitting at two and three right now. I cannot see any scenario where Patrick Mahomes and company is two and four. I’m taking the Chiefs in that one. I mean, I hope you’re right. I hate that. Yeah. I mean, I don’t want the Lions to win, obviously. So, I think that’s all the odds we were we went through there for the week six NFL slate. Get another Sunday of Bears free football. Two Sundays in a row where you can kind of just isolate, watch the games. Yeah, you can relax and then we’ll all stress out on Monday night. I I mean, honestly, I I I don’t know. I’m assuming I mean, Briggs, you’re coming back into town for this, right? Like I know you’ve seen me in some certain ways watching these games. Monday I am Monday I am going to be in a weird place. It’s I am I am really dialed up. I really want the Bears to win this game on Monday. Really? I’m going to We all do. We all do. Yeah. But I you know me I freak out a little more than the normal person. Are you freaking out already? I already am freaking out a little bit. I’m already freaking out a little bit. It’s going to be okay. It is. It’s going to be okay. And Yep. And and the first time that uh Coloulston catches one, me and you are going to go crazy. We’re gonna go crazy. All right. Chest bumping and all that good stuff. Okay. We need uh we need like a top 10 pick light. And every time one of our top 10 picks does something, it’s like the light goes off like uh you know when you buy bottle bottle service bottle service lights. Club dub. We need a club dub lights. Spark. Whatever happened to Club Dub? We need midgets and and little cars and everything like that. Did you guys go to Club Dub in Vegas? No, Club Dub was in in in Soldier Field. They retired it finally. They were doing it like three years after they had made the playoffs like all right. They they they’d like lost three games in a row. They’d beat the Giants and they were doing club dub and I’d come on my own podcast. Nobody in the club. Knock it off. Quit dancing. Win two games in a row for once. So Ben’s cut all that out. No more smoke machines and strobe lights. None of that. I can’t remember what game was on Sunday, but they had a smoke machine in the locker room and the they thought like cuz like they show the postgame and they were like showing the the live look in the locker room. They’re like that they thought the stadium was on fire, but it was just a smoke machine. But um all right, well that wraps things up here for today. Uh any final thoughts, Briggs, before we let you go? Um, listen, it’s going, like you guys said, it’s going to be a a great week of football being able to relax and get ready for Monday and then uh we we come in and see what our Bears can do. Yeah, it’s going to be a good one. How about you, Jerry? You got a little bit of an extended weekend. Gave the gave the fans an extended brick by brick. I’m ready for Monday Night Football. I’m ready for the Bears to revenge revenge what happened last week um last year. The Bears have to come out on fire and and win this game. And I I think they’re going to get that that W. I’m looking forward to it. I’m really looking forward to it. It’s going to be ugly. It’s going to be It’s going to be They’re going to grind it out, but they’re going to get it. Let’s hope so. Redemption. Revenge is a dish best served cold. Hopefully the Bears uh have that dish ready for for Washington here on Monday night. So, that wraps things up for today. Enjoy Thursday night football. Friday, you still got Hogan John’s. You actually have a CHO Bears podcast show here on Friday afternoon uh for all your viewing pleasure to get you into the weekend. And then we’ll be back on Monday pre and postgame show and of course our brickby brick after show late in the evening Monday night. Uh and we appreciate every single one of you tuned in. So, hit that like button on your way out, subscribe to the channel, and once again, thank you to Matt Forte uh for all his time here earlier in the program. Uh if you didn’t get a chance, go back and watch the beginning workhorse. He is still doing his workhorse thing. So, uh that wraps things up. Thank you to Stephen as always for running the ones and twos. And as we always like to say, keep your head up and always bear bear down. Bear down. Let’s go. Boom. [Applause] [Music]
