  1. the red sox media have been trying to dump duran on us the entire year. doubtful the padres would poke holes in the bullpen by giving estrada away for a DH and an outfielder when we already have our outfield set up for 2026 w laureano, merrill, and tatis. this just feels like the red sox trying to raise bidding price for duran again

  2. Duran sucks outside of Fenway, and if we are giving away Salas, we need young, controllable starting pitching, OR they need to take a statue contract.

They get X and Jake with Salas and can eat $277 million too

  3. So the Padres currently have a LF, CF, RF under control/contract. Why would they do this?

  4. I don’t see it. Laureano is playing left field and we add two guys who can would be also led fielders? Then we have a 3 guys we’re rotating between DH and Left Field with one getting the off day. All 3 of them would be expensive contract and prospects wise.

I think we need to focus on a power bat that can get 30+ HRs at the 1B/DH position. Would play well with Sheets rotating that position too.

  5. This trade makes no sense. We no longer need to sell the farm for an outfielder and Yoshida has never really clicked as a power bat in the MLB. This sounds like a Red Sox fever dream.

If they want Salas these dudes ain’t cutting it.

  6. I guess I could see this if they don’t think Laureano is the answer in LF. He hasn’t been a beacon of health in his career and we’d get more control with Duran. I don’t really like getting $18M/yr dumped on us in a DH (Yoshida) that has been light hitting though. DH and 1B really need to provide more pop next season.

  7. I remember when Newsweek was a decent publication. It’s pretty worthless now.

  8. The source isn’t an insider. The source is a guy on bleacher report coming up with random trades that he thinks make sense.

    > As such, we thought we’d get ahead on pitching eight offseason trades that are entirely speculative, yet also within reason. The matches between the given player and team are solid, with some even based on credible reporting from previous trading seasons.

  9. Wouldn’t mind Duran, he looks like the ideal option for the top of the order, but don’t like moving Estrada at all. Suarez is gone, Adam’s injured (don’t expect much from him next year) and Miller might transition to a starter…

Yoshida is intriguing as a DH option, but he’s owed 18 million per year for the next two years, no way in hell are the Padres paying that. Unless you can send Yuki back in a trade and have the Sox eat some cash, I don’t really see it happening.

  10. Typical local media slop. Hypothetical blockbusters that won’t happen to generate attention in the off-season.

I do wonder what will happen with Salas though. The way Preller has gutted the farm I gotta believe it’s only a matter of time before Salas is gone. I think the only reason he isn’t gone already is first he was untouchable and we desperately needed catching, and then nobody really wanted him due to his injuries and slowing development.

If he can bounce back enough to be a headliner in a trade, I would bet that absolutely happens. Will probably take him getting back on the field for a while and showing off though, so maybe next year’s trade deadline at the earliest.

We’re already all in for the next couple years so screw it why not. He’s still years away from being an impact player, if he does turn out to be one at all. And Fermin is under team control for a few years. So catcher isnt as dire as it was this time last year.

Could maybe get a decent starting pitcher with a package he headlines.

  11. Would have been a good trade in July before our deadline, but now it doesn’t make sense. Right now we have Laureano and Sheets penciled in at LF and DH and I would say both are better than Duran and Yoshida.

  12. This seems like an article someone wrote in June and just refreshed for offseason BS.

  13. Yea we mostly need pitching and a DH. Sure I like Duran but I don’t think he fits this year with laureano on contract still.

  14. lol thats not happening. Not only do they cost too much, but we don’t have spots for them.
