TEST AUDIO 4.0, Cardinals at Padres, June 8 1974 (innings 4, 5, 6) Radio Re-enactment

It is Saturday the 8th of June 1974 and the St. Louis Cardinals are visiting the San Diego Padres’s. This game that you are about to listen to is a reconstruction 51 years after the original game. Information was sourced from several sites and records including retrochet.org and sportsreerence.com. This broadcast should not be considered a complete or fully accurate historical record. Nevertheless, this is our story of the game. Thanks to the weather there, Sally. Looks like the heat wave is going to continue into the weekend. But the heat is already up as the Padres’s putting up three in the last inning have overtaken the Cardinals. Cardinals two Padres three as we go into the top of the fourth to Cruz and right as you one two three Dan spiller remains pitching for the Padres with Bo Burton on catching duty. Joe steps in now. Righthander took a single previously and a second chance now for Spillner as the ball comes down to open us up and we go one and oh Tur taking the lead again on a 21 count before hitting that single previously. Pitch comes down and that’s going to be fouled down the left hand line. The count goes equal one and one. Spiller staying on the rubber. Bringing down next pitch. Wonder one comes down. Fouled off once more. Back down left hand line but just finding a little bit short of the line. So it’s one and two. trying to came into the game batting 275 for the season with three home runs. Pitch comes down and that’s to the outside I think for the ball. Two and two on the count. Just a little bit of moments communication between batter and catcher. Decision made. 22 comes down. That hit high. It’s going to head out. Short stop underneath. Fat one bounces just in front of the feed over to first base and in time there just a little bit little bit lucky there it has to be said no Hernandez having to step in but not fast enough gets the bounce off the ground but over to Makobi at first for 10 away Tori going out there on a 6-3 Jose Cruz comes in now flew out of center field again in the first inning but finished off the first inning There’s the third out now looking to make up a little bit of immense on that one. Pitch comes down and that’s going to be just snuck off foul into the back stop. Non one comes back here as a crowd. We’re just going to wait and get hopefully get those tennis numbers in. We’re looking well over 2/3 to 3/4 full I would say as they comes down there and it’s going to be a ball one and one on the count. Then not a cloud in the sky. Sally just pointing out the weather. We’ve had a heat wave for the last couple of days and it’s going to carry on over Saturday, Sunday. So, lots for you to do up in San Diego Park as that one is fouled off down the right hand line. And we go one and two on the count. No runners on at the moment. Cardinals two, Padres’s three. Cardinals here at the top of the fourth at San Diego Stadium. as that goes outside and low for ball. We get a count going two and two. Z Cruz went to three and 0 before flying out last time. Spill their conscious. They won’t be looking at that sort of thing again. Now two strikes has the chance to tidy this one up. One away so far and uh that is going to go well inside. And Cruz just lets that and watches it go past for a full count. Three and two. So, it’s foul out or action. Something’s going to happen here. Actually, Cruz just steps back out of the boxer. Asks for time. He just gathers himself for a moment in steps back into the right hand side of the box. And then just gets ready there to swing. That flew out previously. So, fell out action. Take your pick. There’s the hit. And that is going high. It’s higher than before. And it looks like it is going to go center field running in. Diving catch there from Johnny Grub. Taking the hot one right out ahead of the ground impact there. So just before and just wave that one back to the crowd. And uh yeah, somebody’s got a souvenir there. Johnny Gro is pouring out a kid in the crowd going this one’s for you. And in it goes. Uh nevertheless, Jose Cruz is second out there. Uh, two consecutive fly outs to Johnny Grub out there in center field. So, it’s two up, two down so far. And we welcome Ken Wright. Ken Wright opened up the second inning uh with a ground out there. Short stop to first. Coming in though, batting 340 on the season. Second best batting record of the initial lineup. Tom Heinsel in there on 400. Uh, has been neutered with a strike out and a fly out so far. So Spieler will be looking to to do the same with right as our first pitch comes in and that is going to take the zone low and inside as well. So count goes one and0 right leaving that one to go off moment there for the yeah that kid back there is really enjoying that ball there is another ball comes in there and we go to 2 and 0 just ping the change ups and just keeping the ball lowing and see if that’s just going to lift that up He’s going to just bring that through again. 2 and 0. And that’s fouled off. Popped high, but it’s uh going to go fouled out into the stands. Just pass the third base dug out as well. It goes two and one. And next one ready to come down there. Two and one fouled once more. Staying alive to go for a two and two. Count is equal high. Right just working the count up full here previously to ground out on a one two taking himself to a 22 now. Spiller shakes off the first sign from Barton. Shakes off the second. Sper knows what he wants to throw here. There we are. Barton’s finally given him the one that he he wants to take in. Pitch comes in now and is straight in through the strike zone. Drops down. Strike three out. Three side retired in order. That’s a three up, three down there. and it will be a comfortable side going in from San Diego. So in the top of that one there, no runs, no hits, no errors charged to the Padres’s and none left on base. Pitching there doing exactly what Spiller looking to do. And uh we will head down into the bottom of the fourth. San Diego with a oneun lead. looking to build up on that one if they can. Looking for a new set of wheels, but after trading your old ones first? Check out San Diego’s number one automotive buy and sell at 57 Main Street. They’ve got cars of all shapes and sizes listed on the classifiers, including vintage cars, family vans, and sports cars. Whether you’re trading it old faithful or buying for the first time, you’re sure to find a real gem on the lot. Test drive your dream car today. It’s San Diego’s number one buy itself. 57 Main Street. Going into the bottom of the fourth, our visitors, the Cardinals on two, San Diego Padres’s on three, looking to extend that one lead. It’s going to be Dan Spillner up first with Bobby Tolen at the top of the lineup. Curt second and Enzo Hernandez going to be third. Spillner, of course, it’s our pitcher pitcher time, but it’s the first time he’s facing Rich Falers. So, let’s see how we go on from here. First pitch comes down and that is going to be fouled off down the left hand line past the dugouts there. It’s trickling along the ground as it gets there. Fair top speed on there anyway. N one gathering of thoughts from Faulkers and Simmons still catching second pitch of the inning. And that’s going to be foul down again. That’s going to be high and just over the back stop here. Just a little bit lean towards the left. Spawner now facing a non two drift. Full current previously at the bottom of the second and we’ll see what comes in now on this one. Hulkers pitches in and then Simmons watches that one. Gets into the glove but it goes outside for ball. One and two. Chris is picking that ball back up again. Ask for that one back. He’s enjoying that one. Grip is there. Pitch is down. Fast ball in the zone and high just out the zone actually. So going two and two. It’s nicking the top there. Our home plate up our pole rush just taking a moment there unlike these eyes here up in the commentary buff. 22 pitch comes down and that’s a strike out there as he goes into the glove and as Spieler is out there one away. Curtles two, Padres’s three. So we go into the bottom of the fourth. None on as yet as we welcome Bobby Tolen back to the batter box. Home run in the third. Flew out deep to right field to open up the game. Came in with two home runs on the card. Picked up a third uh in the previous visit here. So once more there’s a chance to swing, but it is his first time facing Rich Folkers. And uh that’s a really slice just off the bat tip there leaning out for the call and it’s going to be giving us a foul tip. So we’ll take non one there. So that one comes back. Pitch comes down. Ball one strike one. Tolen also coming in at 278 for the game so far and one for two with that home run. Starting off the rally in the third that put the Padres’s back on top as we get another ball coming in there on the outside around the belt height. Two and one. 2-1 pitch comes down. Fouled off there. Right hand line reaching out and taking that one in foul territory. 22 on the count. Sizes up there. Tolen digs the heels in. Two two pitch. Contact made. Grounder. It is going up into the past. Not stopped. Second base. Divers gets that one. Daryl Thomas round. Takes that to Willie Ky at first base and is going to be in time on the throw and Tolen ground out there. Daryl Thomas having to scramble back to get that one as it passes second base but gathers it in time and it gets thrown over to first base and Willie Miki. So it is two up, two down, no runners on yet. Cardinals to Padre’s three. Enzo Hernandez steps in now. Strike out looking in the first uh single uh before making it all the way around to score the second run in the third. Anders having just watched Dan Spillner do a three up, three down, will be looking to do the same and retire the Padres here in the bottom of the fourth. Pitch comes down. Ball on the inside. want to know. Comes by just a little luke outfield staying relatively well spread out. One and0 comes down. It’s a two and0. Little ball goes there inside low around the feet. is really trying to get the change up and curve working but not quite bringing themselves into the zone. Most of the work is coming off a two seamer has to be said and this gets in there and that’s going to be fouled at 20 30 ft away. struggling to get the bat round in time on that one as we go two and one comes back again. Wind up the throw and contact foul once more. Height on this one though, but they’re just staying around the back stop area. Two and two on the count. Breath is taken. Christian Simland’s in agreement on this one. 22. Grounder heads up to third base. Looks like it’s going well. Picked up. Scooped over. Robertson Mikovi at first and it is going to be run out there at first base. 53 and side is retired in order. No runs going on the board, no hits and none left on base there. No errors charged to the St. Louis Cardinals outfield. Paul never reached the outfield in anything other than comfortably controlled from second baseman Thomas over to Makovi and then Roberts in third base over to Makovi as well. We’ll take a little moment just to look around uh the score scenes uh as we go through. Three-day games to report on today. California Angels are visiting the Detroit Tigers. And that’s California to Detroit 5. Minnesota visiting the Yankees. Yankees staying on top there. Winning out. Three to the Yankees one to the Twins. And Pittsburgh visiting the San Francisco Giants. McCov’s old team there not being able to put anything on the board. Pittsburgh 5, San Francisco Giants 2. Uh, United Games, you got a couple of them coming in and uh no real blowouts as yet. Uh, Montreal at the Athletic halfway through there in the fifth. It’s a 14 towards the Athletics. Uh, Texas Baltimore. Baltimore in the lead by three. Two over five. And Boston over at the White Socks has tied game there 33. Time to run through the other ones. Lane’s over. Yeah, looks like we got another minute or two. So, match at Houston, two for the match, three for Houston, uh Chicago and Dodgers 42 there. Uh on the other side of the Windy City, Oakland, sorry, just checking that board’s waving off me. Uh what are we doing? Running this one. Running this one. Okay. Yeah, but I’m quite glit very very quickly. Okay, Oakland and Milwaukee two of Oakland and Cincinnati Phillies. Phillies up by two. Cincinnati to Phillies four. Okay. Right. We get that through. Who we got on the 1, two, three as we go into the fifth. Uh, okay. So, we got Jim Hickman coming into pinch hit for Rich Falers. So, we’ll be uh watching that one there. Hman just getting there on deck. But we will open up with Mike Tyson. Uh and yeah, follow that we’ll have Jim Hickman and then we’ll be back to the top of the order for Lou Brock and Spiller still pitching for San Diego and open up with a foul there for Mike Tyson. Popping that up high over the back stop. singled in the second inning, but then was immediately caught stealing uh attempting to get up to second. So, it was a three out inning in that one there, but with a single hit in there. Oh, there. One and one takes the count on Tyson. It’s the second time he is facing Spielber there. So it was a well it was a first pitch first hit previously. Sper just taking a little bit more time now to get settled in and see if he can bring in his advantage. Goes behind for another ball. Tyson goes ahead in the count. Two and one. to waits for the 2-1 coming down. Lets that one just go straight to Bob Barton outside of the zone. Count goes three and one there. Tyson single previously shakes off one pitch. Decides on that one. Pitch comes down. hit high. It’s popped up. It’s going to the outfield and that’s going to be a comfortable catch there as Johnny Grub steps in underneath that one there. Picks the fly ball out and Tyson is our first out there. The Cardinals down by one. Cardinals two, Padre’s three. And we’re going to welcome in Jim Hickman now. in here and heading for Rich Vulkers. So, we’ll see if uh we’re going to have in the bottom of the fifth, but for now, Ecman looks there and fouls that one off the right hand side. Fair bit of clip on it, but just pretty much died there in the grass. So it’s not one one away so far. There are no runners on base and that one there is going to be fouled off again to bring that one if possible into the left hand side but not running not into on the current. Bner’s going to go lean it into that fast ball that took out Tyson. Strike three and swunging out there for two away and a Hickman coming into pinch hit is a not one not two not three and out on the count back to the top of the order as a Lou Brock steps back in strike out and ground out so far with three home runs so far in the season not able to build on them as yet to do that now. And the ball comes in. So gets himself ahead in the count. One and0 just uh give the ball a little extra. Steps back off the rubber. Actually takes his own little bit of time. Comes back in again. Wine pitch comes down. Strike one. K goes the equal low. One and one. Rock incredibly happy with that one. Little glance back at the umpire. But I know oops inside the strike zone. Give a touch high. It’s one and one and ball gives that one there. Nope. Cold strike. One and two. Outside low on the zone there. Oh, B with a little bit of cheeky framing there uh potentially, but nevertheless, we count is one two. Situational is aware. Two away so far for the St. Louisie Cardinals popped up two runs in the first not yet building on them. Swing comes round and swing and a miss there. So side retired in order once more. Little acknowledgement and wave to the crowd there from Spillner. I think he was waiting on something else coming through there. But that is another three up, three down. Retired in order for Dan Spiller. Two in a row there. No runs, no hits, no errors, none left on base. It zeros across the board once more. Louis Carlos, as I said, with that early lead, taking them up to two, but then made up in the third inning by the Padres’s. Looking for a new set of wheels, but have to trade in your old ones first. Check out San Diego’s number one automotive buy and sell online at 57 Main Street. We got cars of all shapes and sizes listed on the classifiers, including vintage cars, family vans, and sports cars. Whether you’re training an old faithful or buying for the first time, you’re sure to find a real gem on the lot. Test drive your dream car today. It’s San Diego’s number one buy and sell on 57 Maine. bottom of the fifth here and it still remains Cardinals two, Padres’s three after no scores either side in the fourth frame. Andre’s holding Cardinals back after that two-run spot in the first inning. And I will just look out now. It’s going to be Pete Rickert who is uh warming up here. Falker’s having Jim Hickman come in to do the pinch hitting there. And uh unsurprisingly Jim as you all know Jim ain’t a pitcher. So Pete Richtor Petri handwriting there. Pete Ricker comes in now and it is going to be a chance for a new pitcher. Nico Cobber, Willie McCobi, and Johnny Grub are up in line to see what’s going to come down and Rard opens up with that’s ball coming down there onto Nate Cobber. So, one and0 coar two walks already so far. first inning getting himself all the way around to third base eventually. Third inning. That was the third run on the board and go ahead and we have one more going straight in the catcher’s glove on a ball. So it’s a 2 and 0. Ober threatening to do the same again. Just waits for the moment. Swing on this one or up pitch. Swing and foul. One and two. Bottom of the fifth here. 2-1 pitched. Comes down and that’s going to be inside for cold strike. Two and two. Bit more breath taken. Just looking to find his rhythm to understand where the strike zone is here. Two and two. Outside for ball three. Count goes full. Three and two for Nate Colbert. Already drawn two walks. 25 seeing his chances once more. 32 count payoff pitch comingings down and that’s going to be high and foul but there’s going to be a sprint underneath that Joe TorĂ© trying to get underneath that from the first base and feet planted and ball goes into the glove there. So one away there as that popup caught in foul territory there. Lee Coar heads back to the dugout. Stepping in now we go Kovi. Just like Coar drawing two walks in the two previous visits to the play. Going to be the first person on the Padres to see all three of the pictures so far. Mike Thompson, Rich Fogers, and Pete Rickard. Recurs pitch comes down. It’s going to be fouled off there. Heading down the right hand line. Noded one. Kovi putting a little bit of ace in the back there, but just swinging a little bit too late on that one. Going for the opposite field. Not one comes down. That’s His little grounder chopper bouncing over to Tori at first base. He’s going to get that in the hand and just take three steps and put his foot on the bag for the second out. So, it’s two up, two down so far for Pete Ricker in coming in in relief here in the bottom of the fifth. Johnny Gro walked on the first appearance and then put in a sack fly to continue the scoring run in the third. At the moment it is Padres’s three runs to the good. Cardinals chasing as the visitors on two. Tony Grub steps in now. And that’s going to be ball one as he Grub lets that one goes past one and O. Rob just doing a few check swings there. Left-handed batter and swings high on that one and it’s going out of right field. It is going high. It’s gone. It’s going to be a little bit short. Jose Cruz having a run to get underneath that. Catches that on the learning track and throws that in sharply. Tom Heinsman uh doing the cut off there at second base. Johnny Grub gets the single. First hit for the pad race. Senzo Hernandez back in the third. So we’ve got two outs, but we’ve got a runner on first and Jon Grub as we welcome in Daryl Thomas. A strike out and a walk previously. First one off Thompson. Second one of Faler’s third time is going to be now facing Pete Ricker. Grows down the opening pitch and it’s passed and into the back stop. Wild pitch and you’ve got Grub heads up to second base on that one and he’s going to get there standing. Jogs into second there on a wild pitch there. Pete Rickert there just acknowledging Ted Simmons down and catching that. Yep, that one is going to be on him. A high and wild throw release point just absolutely all over the shop and it’s going to be 1 and0 for Daryl Thomas 208 so far. Runner up on second in scoring position. San Diego Padres’s one run to the good here in the bottom of the fifth. Pitch comes down. Contact made. It’s going up. So the grounder straight there towards Heman. picks out under arm to Joel Jury who’s doing a lot of work but not having to really stretch himself and gets the third out there at first base and side is retired and a little bit more action there but ultimately unproductive. No run scored there. One hit though coming off Johnny Grub which means he’s going to be left on base as well. Lower charge to the Cardinals and the Cardinals keeping the lead to just the one. No chance there for the Padres’s to catch up. It remains the St. Louis Cardinals to San Diego Padres’s three as we get ready to go into the six here in the San Diego Stadium on a delightful Saturday evening. We pause now for station identification. You’re listening to broadcast test 4 here on KTPC and classic baseball radio reconstructions with myself, you and Spence. Game is brought to you by the KTPC broadcasting team and is a reconstruction after the original game. Information was sourced from several sites and records including retro sheet oransportsreerence.com. This broadcast should not be considered a complete or fully accurate historical record. Nevertheless, this is our story of the game. Top of the six coming up now here in San Diego and one two three Tom Heisman, Bate McBride and Ted Simmons are going to be here for the Cardinals chasing that oneun deficit that they have against the San Diego Padres’s. Cardinals of course coming in this game 2626 Padres’s a little bit further behind there at 2238 and Sper is going to continue pitching for the Padres as we go into the sixth and it’s going to be the third time facing Tom Heightman strike out and fly out in the previous appearances and we are going to open up there with the ball on the inside there to go one and oh batting right-handed and strongest average on the Cardinals team coming into the game with 400. He’s going to have dropped very slightly now. He’s not in two so far. Just a solitary home run so far in the season to show for the swings. And that one is going to go for ball two. 2 and 0. Just that little bit more of a gap. He’s stepping a little bit fur forward in the box here. Stepping a bit away from Bob Barton here. Interesting this one. just a changing up his ey line getting a little bit more comfortable. Strike one. Well, if it’s looking for comfort found the extra comfort off of that one there. It’s a 2-1 count. The 2-1. Oh, down right hand straight just misses the dug out there and bounces further down in the outfield there, but count goes equal high. Two and two. Cardinals only had the two runs in the first inning. They’ve been held to zero throughout the next four innings. And now we’re into the uh the hopefully for the Padres’s hoping for the fifth scoreless inning. But I mean Darren is just going to go ground. Short stop picks that one up there. Hernandez takes that throws it over to Lovi and Cby quite happily there. There’s one away on a 53. Seventh in or eighth in order returned so far since they’ll walk on Bake McBride in the third. But it’s Bake McBride stepping in now with one away. Cardinal still facing that one run deficit here in the six. Right takes that one there and lets it go behind actually for the strike. Little bit of a TX thinking on that one. So we’re not one on the count. steps back out of the left hand at the moment. Akin again ready to take the next spill there. It’s not one on the board goes towards short grounder picked up there. Hernandez attempted to do the throw over in time and it’s not going to be. Then that’s going to be single there and D big McBride finds himself one baits for the third time in this game. A single previously in the first inning walking the third and that’s joined by another single here in the six and puts himself on base. It’s William Mikovi there in the right position, but Hernandez just not getting the ball snapped over in time. Ted Simmons in now. Single in the first uh with an RBI. Dropping the first of two runs for the Cardinals. Fouls that one off there. quite happy to see that one going into the stands. A little bit of a scramble for the ball that I can’t quite see who’s got it this time. If I glance up to center field, there’s probably somebody going to be waving the ball caught previously then. Anyway, Simmons there fouling that one and it gives us a not and one on the count. Ball comes down. One and one. See little bit of moment there. We’ll glance over the first One gets thrown down from Simmons. McBride goes for the steal. There’s a pop up from the catcher. Snaps back up to second base. Daryl Thomas takes that one in time. And that is going to be a cot steel. Yeah. Walk back to the dugout. Empire signals that one there. Second cot steel so far of the game. Mike Tyson attempted it for the Cardinals in the second. Did not make that in time. Bake McBride not making it in time either. It’s a 2-1 count, but now it is two away for the Cardinals. Ted Simmons there watching an opportunity for his teammate into scoring position get failed. So from from one out to and a runner at second, he’s actually facing two outs and nobody on Zimmons on a one two. Let’s that one goes by for the ball. Three and one. As I said, singles already singled so far in the game. Bner there in the first takes a moment on this one. Contact made. That’s going to be hit high. It’s going to be going out right field. Got the height on it and it is going to go over the head of Bobby Tolen. So, Simmons puts first, puts the foot down and hips himself up into second as well, relatively comfortably as well. Has to be said, has the distance over the head of Bobby Tolen out there in right field, bouncing on the warning track. And the double there for Ted Simmons gives him a 243 game. And stepping in now it’s going to be Dari RBI single in the first before grounding out in the fourth. Let’s wait to see what comes in from Spillner. Third time facing him. They’ll probably have the measure of each other. lets that one go past on the outside around the letters though it’s a little bit far of reach so it’s going to be bone one next comes down fouled off goes one and on the moment taken there. Ted Simmons at second base. Runner in scoring position. Two away so far for the Cardinals here in the top of the six. And that’s me. Line drive going down left field line. Pass Robertson in third. Goes towards Cobar. Picks that one up. Colar throws down to Roberts at third. Has the check there. Opportunity after that possibly for Trey to make it round to second, but he’s just going to hold up at first and have runners on the corners there. So, another productive single coming from Trey there was an RBI in the first inning. Not quite the RBI this time around, but brings teammate Simmons over to third. And stepping in now Jose Cruz, who’s a flown out on both up to Johnny Grub in center field coming in batting 263 with five RBI in the game so far. going to take a moment there. He’s just going to let that one go past him. It’s going to be a cold strike though. Not in one. And that’s it. Goes towards second base. Gathered up there by Daryl Thomas. walks over and does the foresight at second base there. And uh with that side retire to is caught out there on the force not caught forced out there on the run up to second. Ted Simmons not home from third base there in time. So side retired on that one. Tori is going to have that down potentially as fieldielder’s choice. But there’s the run out. And there the Hadres preserve that one run lead. Runners on the corners in that one in the end. Uh but no runs on that one. Three hits though in that inning. So uh just going to have to go back and check the card again with anything. Two left on base. No errors. Turns to the Padres. So it is an O Cardinals two San Diego Padres’s three as we get ready to go into the bottom of the six here at San Diego Stadium. Looking for a new set of wheels but have to trade in your old ones first? Check out San Diego’s number one auto of buy and sell at 57 Main Street. Buy and sell 57 Main. We might have to give them a refund on that. Let’s pretend I didn’t say anything. Right. Okay. Where are we? We are going into the bottom of the six here in San Diego Stadium. It is going to be Dave Roberts, Bob Barton, and Dan Spillner. The 789 on your lineup card is going to be your 123 here and they will be looking to build on the one-run lead that they have. It’s a 3-2 game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Record is going to stay pitching for the Cardinals. And with that, we are underway. Dave Roberts squaring up. First time facing Payton Rickert. Comes in contact there. It’s high. It is long. It’s going down left field line. Lou Brock running back, but he’s not going to be there in time. That’s going to go over for a home run. Touch all those bases, Dave, if you’re going to make it home. And that doubles the lead. San Diego four, St. Louis Cardinals two. Steve Roberts puts his second home run on the board of the season. 179 batting beforehand with the one home run. We’ll do the math on the banning average, but I can do the math on the home run. two now uh for Dave Roberts on the season. And Pete Rickard just literally looking back at that one as that goes goes into the stadium. Doesn’t quite go out the park. Not got the distance on that one yet, but a home run is a home run. They all count. So that’s going to be 42. Well, Barton stepping in now. Strike out and fly out so far in the game. Opening pitch comes down and that goes to the outside for ball one. Look at there. Gather with the ball. One more goal. One and0 comes down. It’s got to be 2 and 0 as that goes low under the zone. Martin coming into the game 256 and three RBI. Nobody on base at the moment. No outs so far either for the Padres, but they have extended that lead. Martin swings pitch there and that’s going to go down right field line. It’s heading long. It’s bouncing on the ground past Hman at first. Jose Cruz, he’s going to have to gather that one up as well. Dustin Long throw in, but Barton is going to make second base comfortably on that one as well. Matching Ted Simmons from the top of the six for the Cardinals. It’s going to be Bob Barton for the Pad race. Picks himself onto second into scoring position. No out so far. Home run opened up the inning. Chance here for San Diego Padres’s to extend that lead from 4-2 with a little bit more. Dan Spieler pitcher comes in though now. So it’s pitcher pitcher time. Strike out looking. strikeout swinging so far, but this will be Sper’s first time facing Pete Ricker. So, it’s a a different pitcher pitcher this time. And that’s going to be ball one. Ber lets that one go past him. Pitch comes down. That’s scrabbly fouled off in the dirt around home play. So we’re going to go one and one. Ricker and Simmons in agreement. Jordy for the third pitch. And that’s going to be fouled off as well. A little bit more. Gets at least gets outside the the batter’s box on that one. So we go one and two. Still up in scoring position there. Barton looking to capitalize on that one. No outs so far. Pitcher Spellelner faces pitcher Pete Rickard. Rickard pitches down. Spellelner takes that one and lets it go past strike three. So we go back to the top of the order. One away so far for the Padres’s here in the six. Bobby Tolen got a home run himself in the third inning. And he’s just watched teammate Dave Roberts put up the second home run. Well, Barton out there and second base after his double. Foul that one off there. So, we’re sending that one high and up over the back stop. More than one and that’s going to go ball high in the zone as well. So it’s one and one on Ten. Here it comes up once more and that’s going to go high in the zone again. Ball at 21. Next pitch comes down. It’s high as well. Not needing to bring that one down there. Three and one on the count. Rickert suddenly having the pitches balloon up high after keeping it underneath. Wonder if he’s just taking a different approach here to Tolen and just trying to get the pop up rather than anything else as a fly out in the first is probably what’s on the mind at the moment comes in now pitch line drives back towards pitcher picked up there by Rickard throws it over right at third force out there over to Tyson to try and make the play at second but it’s is going to be steady. Bobby Tolman there slays it at first base on the fielder’s choice, but not before the force out on Barton as he goes down from second to third. Got the force out there actually tag applied there as that goes over long drive back towards Rickert with a snap over to Ken Rice covering third base. runs in, puts the tag on to Bob Barton and then Mike Tyson shorts stop covering second probably just to see if Tolen was going to go any further or not but to hold up at first on that one there. So from what was a dangerous situation with just the one out. You move towards two outs there and just the one runner on first as Enzo Hernandez comes in. Did single in the third, but he’s an one for three games so far. And that’s going to open up with Rick going behind in the count once more. All Hernandez’s favor. One and0 comes down high and strike one. One and one. We’re equal on the count. She comes in once more. Foul heads towards the right just a little bit as we go for one and two. The one and two and that’s going to be hit long. It’s going towards center field though. That’s going to be Bon Bright though just needing to step in two steps on that one and that takes the ball out of the air for the third out and that there well we got another one on the board there. One run there for the Padres coming off a home run as Dave Roberts opened up the inning. Two hits in total one coming off of that home run followed by a double from Bob Barton but no other production off that one there. one left on base. Cardinals uh going back behind one more run. So, it’s Cardinals two for the visitors and it’s four for the Padres here at San Diego Stadium 42. And we’ll just take a brief moment to head back over to get traffic and what you can look forward to this evening and all the rest of the weekend at the uh all the shenanigans going on at the San Diego Aerospace Museum. I’m inspired here at the San Diego Stadium where the score as we played through six is the St. Louis Cardinals to the San Diego Padres’s four.
