MLB Network | Who is to blame for New York Yankees postseason exit? – Harold Reynolds STRONG REACTS

Yeah, I mean, you know, it’s frustrating. Um, again, I’ve only been here for three months, so um can’t imagine what some of the other guys feel at any other season. So, um, again, you know, you got to you got to learn from it and, uh, you know, again, prepare for next year already. So, didn’t really feel like we were, you know, on an elimination game. I thought we were playing good ball. So, um, again, fuel it for next year. Um, I think the group in here was so it was so talented. We were such a a tight tight-knit group. We all play for each other. It was such a fun group that we had and so it always, you know, is unfortunate when it comes up short, shorter than we all expected and um so it’s never a good feeling. Yeah, we didn’t do our job. Didn’t finish the goal. Uh had a special group in here of a lot of special players that um you know made this year fun, but you know, we didn’t get the ultimate prize. So, you know, we came out short. We got beat here. you know, credit to, you know, the Blue Jays and and the year they’ve had and and you know, they they beat us this series. Simple as that. And um when it ends this way, you know, it’s terrible. It hurts. But I know for me personally, I know for a lot of those guys, it also continues to ignite your fire to want to get back and play in these meaningful games and have a chance at glory. Aaron, I’m I’m sorry on it, but it becomes a subject every year. Do you have any reason to think you won’t be back managing the team next year? No, I’m I’m under contract, so no, I’m I don’t expect anything. Yeah. Aaron, what you expect is a fireside at bat. You knew the three of us were going to get around the fire at home plate and talk about the New York Yankees and the end of their season. We’ll talk about Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman in a second. Maybe we’re going to talk about it now. Who’s to blame? In in the city of New York, fingerpointing is like part of the DNA. So, so if your favorite sports team loses, who is to blame? Harold, I’m g start with you. What or who do you blame the Yankees season not ending with a World Championship? I don’t know if it’s blame, but I think it’s factual. Garrett Cole’s injury hurt this club. If he’s healthy, if you got Garrett Cole down the stretch, you have 30 starts out of Garrett Cole. This isn’t even a conversation. Their pitching was the best starters lined up that were still around in the postseason with Garrett Cole not being there for the full year 162. Think about what they did. Cashman went out and he replaced Sodto with Bellinger, Max Freed, Gold Smith, Devin Williams, and moved Jazz to second base. I’m sorry, but I’ll take that team over last year’s team any day of the week. And I throw Garrett Cole on this roster. They are a team that I say has a chance to win the World Series. And the only reason I push back on that is because they lost to a team that did not have their starting shortstop who’s leading the American League in hits in Bo Bashette. So everybody deals with injuries. Understood. But but this was in spring training. That’s the difference. So because of his lack of innings, it it attacks the bullpen by the time they got to by the time they get to where they want to be. Yeah. That’s huge. Who do you blame it on? Who do you Is there blame? Yeah, players. I it plain and simple. I thought at the trade deadline, Brian Cashman acquired Bednar. That might have been the best move at the trade deadline by any of the teams. Filled the void. So, you start the season off, you acquired Devin Williams. We’re thinking they’re getting a guy that’s he’s an ultimate guy. Elite. Okay. Now, you move the rest of the bullpen sets up. Luke Weaver is going to be the seventh or and or eighth inning. And that bullpen looked like it was going to be strong. Devin Williams was a disaster for five weeks. So now you’ve got to go to plan B in your bullpen. So you have the plan A. You go get the guy that everybody said if you that they’re going to the World Series now because they have the ninth inning. Now you can move Weaver back to the seventh or the eighth where he’s comfortable. Didn’t pitch well. So then third base became a problem. So okay, we’re going to mix and match. We’ve got to get Jazz back to where he’s comfortable. Get him at second base. Okay, you put him back at second base. Anthony Vulpi shortstop. First couple months were good. He went through July, August, September. His fielding was bad. He wasn’t making contact. You could blame the hitting coach. You could blame anybody. You can bring Brian Cashman, Aaron Boon. They had nothing to do with it. They had the Blue Jays in the perfect spot. Okay, they have a game four at home. The Blue Jays have a There’s one thing about a bullpen game when you know you have a bulk guy following. This was a bullpen game if there ever was one and they had everything set up to win game four and you could say whatever you want. I I’m not I thought that Brian Cashman all we did was marvel at plan B. No sodto and we were everybody in the industry was laugh spent $700 million and the Yankees are better and they don’t have sodto. Yeah, they were the best team in the American League East for two months. Then they hit a swoon late July into August. They let the Blue Jays back in and then all of a sudden now the pressure is on a little bit because you had a lead. The lead went away and now you got to catch the Blue Jays again. Give the Yankees credit. They want they want they made the Blue Jays earned to win the East. I want to make an adjustment here because I think we were going to talk about the future’s bright. I think the future is bright because I want to talk about Aaron Judge because we can’t blame Aaron Judge. This is the one year we cannot blame Aaron Judge. He was amazing in the postseason 400 beginning of the year. Remember how fun that was? Yeah. If you go to the beginning of the season to the end of the year, did we just witness the best offensive season MLB network’s ever seen? We we we launched in 2009. During that time, we saw Mike Trout put up incredible numbers. We saw Show Otani put up a 50-50 season. We saw Miguel Cabrera win a triple crown. Is this the greatest offensive season we’ve ever seen? Well, you might. Yeah, because the Triple Crown didn’t have 50 some homers in it. No, he led the league in hitting 331. And that 331 he carried all season long. This wasn’t like he got hot and got to 330. Actually, he cooled off. He cooled off. He finished at 330, right? But very impressive year. Incredible. 3 137 runs scored. Did they waste the best season of Aaron Judge’s career? Uh well, if you consider not going back to the World Series, a waste. Yeah. Aaron Judge has never been in the World Series. You know, we’re not supposed to root for favorite teams or players, but I found myself watching that game last night and he was on the on deck circle to potentially be the last out of the series. I wanted so badly for him to square up a ball and he hit a bullet off the wall just to kind of put an exclamation point on all of the naysayers that have said, “Great player, but he has a 206 batting average in the month of October.” Right. You’re totally right. And I’m telling you, if he if he accomplished one thing, that home run he hit off of Varin, I thought that shot of him in the dugout, you know, the players they look in the dugout, he did a double take like saying, “Okay, for all of you out there, you know, that want to call me Mr. July and Mr. September, I just put this team on my back because if Aaron Judge would have had a bad series, this would have been three and done. They would have been they this would have been an embarrassing series for the Yankees. I agree with that. But I want the positive the most positive thing out of this entire year for the Yankees. They found their ace of the future. Cam Schlitler, he lost that game last night. He showed me more in that game last night than he did in that Red Sox game because he had good stuff. The Blue Jays made him work and he kept making good pitches after good pitches. The strikeouts weren’t as dominant. I get it. They found their race. you just made a comment about 3 minutes ago. He might be their number one next year. I will tell you this. I said game one starter a year from now is Cam Schlitler. Not Garrick Cole, not Max Freed, not Carl Rodan, not Luis Heel. This dude will be game. All things considered, if tomorrow was game seven for the Yankees and everybody was rested, Schlitler starting that game for me. Yes. All right. I I get all that. I still think Let’s Let’s point to some negatives here. Why I think the Yankees lost is because they did not play the game they played all year to get them there. They started the first game in the postseason scrambling their lineup, putting people in that hadn’t played. We’re going to take Jazz and we’re going to sit him and Ben Rice on the bench. They’re not playing tonight cuz the left-hander’s throwing. And that just sets such a terrible precedence for we’re the Yankees. Come get us. We are a bad team that has everybody bad in a good way. Yeah, in a good way. I was gonna say another word and I don’t want to say it. But that has everybody coming after us. We’re ready for you. I thought it was a bad precedence and then they didn’t run. They didn’t put pressure on people. They did that all year. They led the majors in storing bases the second half. Didn’t run. Yeah. They’re waiting till 3-2 counts and then they’ll go. I thought they got away from their style of play and they let the Blue Jays take it to them. Yeah. Instead of them taking it to the Jays. Uh uh quickly, Alex Rodriguez on FS1 took it to uh Brian Kman, said this roster was it was incorrectly put together. Too many catchers were on the roster. They’re all left-handed hitters. Uh he kind of went off on the way this roster was constructed. Brian Kman and and Aaron Boon. Are they back for 2026? Absolutely. Yes. They’re going and I think this is this was a you look back last year, the Yankees lost the World Series cuz they couldn’t defend. That’s what cost them. They weren’t athletic. when you go get Cody Bellinger who can play everywhere and we watched him play defense this year and particularly in this postseason in left field but he can do it anywhere then you go out and you get Max Freed and you go get the pitching and then you put Jazz Chisum in a situation becomes a 3030 guy I mean then you go get David Benar who’s going to be a closer next year to me the biggest question the Yankees have to answer what kind of player is Jason Dominguez he was untouchable he wasn’t even a factor in the postseason they wouldn’t even trade Go get a guy like Joe. They built they built their entire This is our position player that’s going to save us. They need to find out is he a real player or is he a guy they’re going to have to move. Yeah. They need to find out what they’re going to do with Vulpi. That’s a big question mark as well. We got to take a break here. to the national pregame.

  1. Hello everyone, this team did not achieve for one simple reason!! there’s no consistency to this team to who took the field every day,, to what batting order they were batting in,, to who our closer was,, we all go to work every day regards of what your position is and know what our job is and ready to work that day. Just imagine you’re going to work, and the boss says Stacy sitting in the break room, have some coffee and in case someone has to go pick up their kid at 3 o’clock then you can clock in or sitting in a truck in the foreman says hey Aaron sit in the truck just in case someone puts a nail through their foot you’re gonna have to come in and cover form. You have to have consistency,, Heck we started this season without a third baseman that should tell you everything for me I’m going for the Phillies Godspeed

  2. Yankees are not entitled to the World Series, there are 29 other teams. There are too many low .200 hitters in the lineup. Wells, Volpe, McMahon. That's 1/3 of their lineup! And kudos to the Jays!

  3. what's the point of being the best regular season player in the game , but, not winning any titles? ? haha, it's worthless if your goal it to win rings. good luck with that.

  4. Cost of attending a MLB game? Astronomical.

Cost of all the streaming services needed to follow your team? Outrageous.

Jazz booting the grounder and Schlitt taking the L? Priceless 😂

  5. Here’s a scenario I want to put out there…instead of being a starter…how about Schlittler as our setup guy for Bednar…I really really like that idea…just throwing that out there to get some feedback..

  6. The answer to your question is…the blue jays. They were sensational as a team up and down the order. No break for pitchers or fielders at any point of any game
