Steelers News: Jalen Ramsey PLAYING This Week vs. CLE? + Scotty Miller STARTING Over Roman Wilson?
Welcome in to Steelers Talk. I’m your host, Jack Sperry. Thank you guys for joining me here on a Friday. Got some new uh injury news coming out today on the Pittsburgh Steelers with the final injury report for week six coming out today. Um we got a lot of stuff to talk about on today’s show. But before we get into the content today, guys, make sure you click that subscribe button. We just passed 99,000 subscribers on this channel. We’re only a thousand subscribers away uh before we become the first Steelers news program anywhere on YouTube to get to 100,000 subscribers. So, I just want to thank you guys so much uh in advance here. We’re probably going to get uh over that 100,000 subscriber mark uh by the time that the game finishes on Sunday on our live watch party. Um so, if you got guys want to come help celebrate, uh make sure you guys join us for our watch party on Sunday. I’ll be starting that watch party on Sunday obviously at 12:00 p.m. Eastern time, an hour before kickoff before Steelers versus Browns. Um, and hopefully we can celebrate uh not only getting to 100,000 subscribers, but also a Steelers victory and a 4 in one start and hopefully a one in five start for the Baltimore Ravens as well. So, make sure you guys click that subscribe button if you haven’t already to join the largest Steelers fan community anywhere here on YouTube. All right, so now let’s start here with the Steelers injury updates that you guys need to know about. The final uh Steelers injury report for week six came out today. Alex Heismith, Joey Porter Jr., and Jaylen Warren are all good to go. No injury designations for them. Um and obviously getting these three starters is a big deal back for the Pittsburgh Steelers, right? Because you got Alex Heismith um who is one of uh you know the most disruptive edge rushers in the entire National Football League when he is healthy and playing. He hasn’t played in quite a while now. Obviously, Nick Herbig has certainly done a good job holding down the fort in the meantime, and I do expect Herbig to still have a very heavy workload um as the season goes on. But, you know, having that three-headed monster of TJ Watt, Alex Heismith, and Nick Herig is really what can make this Steelers defense and this pass rush so special because they can have a healthy rotation of these guys and never give opposing defenses a break when they’re all healthy. And you know, frankly, um, you know, these three guys have been on the roster a lot over the last several seasons here, but they haven’t really been all healthy at the same time very often. So hopefully the Steelers can take advantage of that. And hopefully we actually get to see over a good stretch of time here a fully healthy TJ Watt, a fully healthy Alex Heismith, and a fully healthy Nick Herbig. When you combine that with the depth that the Steelers have on the interior, Cam Hayward, Keo Benson, Derek Harmon, etc. Daniel Aqual um all these guys that they ya black you know they’ve got some serious depth on the defensive line and with their pass rush this year and now that you know we’re finally getting healthy there really excited to see what that’s going to look like then Joey Porter Jr. getting him back is really really crucial guys um you know what the Steelers do with Joey is he’s their press guy you know he’s their man everywhere he goes defender where if they want to go rotate a coverage away um from the number one corner on the outside they can do that with Joey Porter Jr. They trust him on those island assignments one-on-one in press because he’s got such great physicality and arm length. He’s one of the best press jam corners in the National Football League. And since he’s been out, the Steelers haven’t had that as an option for them. And because of that, they’ve been kind of playing more off coverage. Um, you know, they’ve been playing a little bit softer. But now with Joey Porter Jr. um adding into the Steelers defense now, they can play even more aggressively in terms of the coverages that they call. Um, I think they’re going to be more effective as a man uh coverage team with Joey in there. So, really excited to have him back. And then Jaylen Warren, man, we all know what he does for this offense. I mean, he makes people miss at a rate that really nobody else in the National Football League makes guys miss. Uh, super efficient. And he’s just been um, you know, frankly the best offensive player on the Pittsburgh Steelers roster for the last several seasons. And, you know, it just took him this till this year to figure out that he should be a number one running back. I personally think he would have had over 150 rushing yards if he would have played behind uh you know that awesome offensive line in the jumbo packages versus the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin. Uh Kenneth Gainwell did a good job holding down the fort getting 99 rushing yards, but Jaylen Warren just brings an extra element of juice to the table uh that Kenny just doesn’t necessarily bring. And you know with Warren running behind these jumbo personnel looks with Spencer Anderson and Darnell Washington out there on early downs. Um, something tells me that, you know, the Steelers could have one of the better run games in the National Football League for the rest of this season. So, can’t wait to see how the Steelers run game with these jumbo personnel looks kind of goes up against right now the number one rushing defense in the National Football League in the Cleveland Browns. That is a big matchup that I’ll be keeping my eye out for. And don’t be surprised, I’ll tell you guys this right now, do not be surprised if the Steelers win that matchup on Sunday afternoon with Jaylen Warren as their lead running back. Um, and then some kind of surprising news today. You know, Jaylen Ramsay, who did not practice all week, he’s been, you know, kind of stretching with the team with that hamstring injury. Uh, there’s a lot of people reporting that he would not be able to play this week. um and that he would probably be out these next two games as this team gets ready for that stretch of Green Bay, Indianapolis, and Los Angeles. That was kind of the time period uh that was kind of slated for Ramsay to return. Well, he was a full participant in practice today. Not only did he uh participate in individual drills, but he participated in team drills. So, that is a really really good uh sign that he could play on Sunday. Now, I do think the Steelers have the depth at corner to be able to uh, you know, play and play successfully on the defensive side of the ball without Jaylen Ramsey. They could either go with Brandon Nichols and just put him in the slot or they could put Deshawn Elliott in that big nickel position that Jaylen Ramsay plays and then bring in Jabril Peppers to play strong safety. Obviously, if Ramsay’s good to go and, you know, there’s not a huge risk for reinjury, by all means, put him in there. He’s an awesome player. um you know super physical player and you know the Steelers defense is different obviously when he’s on the field. So really do think that you know if he can play he should and it’s looking like a pretty decent chance that he could play. Now when he was talking with the media today he said we’ll see in terms of whether or not he will play. Um and I still will pick the Steelers to win this football game whether Jaylen Ramsey plays or not but that’s definitely a name to keep your eye on here as we approach kickoff on Sunday. And then the one guy for the Steelers that is designated as out right now is Calvin Austin III. Did not practice all week. Still dealing with that shoulder issue. Um and I would assume he’ll be out for the Bengal game too. Uh you know, short week, you know, get him back for the for the Green Bay game uh before the Steelers go on that kind of threeame stretch. That’s going to be a big test for them because the Packers, Colts, and Chargers, they’re legitimate football teams and, you know, they’re potential, you know, AFC playoff teams and NFC playoff teams in in the case of the Packers. But, you know, to get Austin and Ramsay back fully healthy for those three games, I think has to be the priority for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Um, so that is what the Steelers injury updates are heading into Sunday, guys. But um there’s also a little bit of dynamic going on right now in terms of who’s going to be the number two receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers uh with Calvin Austin the third out of the lineup. Well, according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazettes Ray Philaldo, he says that Scotty Miller is expected to take the number two wide receiver role, usually occupied by Calvin Austin III um this week over Roman Wilson. And we saw this play out in Dublin um where Scotty came in and kind of finished the game where Roman only had three snaps the entire game versus the Vikings. Um and if Phil Depalo is to be believed here, it’s going to be DK Metaf as the number one receiver and then Scotty Miller is going to be the guy that replaces Calvin in this Steelers offense. And listen, man, like with all due respect to Scotty, I think he’s a good backup. Um, you know, he does bring legitimate speed and I think he showed some really good things during the preseason and it seems like he has a pretty decent connection with Aaron Rodgers. Like you drafted Roman Wilson in the third round, man. And like the expectation for him heading into this year is that he is going to be a legitimate contributor as at least a wide receiver three and now your number two receiver goes down and it sounds like Scotty Miller is going to be, you know, above him on the totem pole here. That’s not a great look for Roman Wilson at this point. in his NFL journey, man. And you know, I I I think that Scotty Miller theoretically does fit the quote unquote role of Calvin Austin the third in this offense. Maybe maybe slightly better than Roman does. I think he might be a better true route runner than Roman is. Um, you know, he’s obviously got a very very similar amount of speed to Calvin. He’s a similar size. You know, he’s a very similar profile to Calvin Austin the third, even though I would say he’s not quite as good as Calvin is. Um, but you know, plain and simply guys, like if you have Roman Wilson, he’s a third round pick. This is his second season in the league. I know he lost most of his rookie season due to injury, but like you would want Roman Wilson as a third round pick to be the guy that they trust to, you know, bestow upon this role when when and if Calvin Austin the third goes out with an injury. And, uh, it doesn’t appear like that’s the case at this point. Um, I do think that Scotty has an opportunity to actually have a pretty good game against Cleveland. I think that the Steelers will be very jumbo personnelheavy, let’s call it, on Sunday, which could open up a lot of crosser opportunities and play action, deep shot opportunities, uh, that he can showcase his speed. And, um, I actually think Scotty could have a pretty darn good game as the number two receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday afternoon. It’s just, you know, I I would I would have liked to see Roman get that opportunity and for Roman to have played well enough in practice to earn that opportunity uh with this Steelers coaching staff. So, we’ll see what ends up happening on Sunday. Uh for all we know, Phil Depalo is just wrong on this and and Roman is going to be the number two receiver and he’s going to out snap Scotty Miller. I can tell you this right now, Scotty Miller looks like he’s probably for sure going to be the punt return man for the Pittsburgh Steelers this week. Now, usually, of course, that’s Calvin Austin the third’s job, but Scotty is the backup punt returner in case Calvin gets injured. Um, so they did bring in Black Shear to the practice squad. We’ll see if he gets a helmet, but I do think Scotty Miller will be the number one punt return man on Sunday, whether or not he’s number two receiver or not. So, definitely something to keep your eye out for on Sunday. We certainly will on the watch party this weekend. Uh on the other side here on the Browns injury report, there’s only one name uh that was that’s designated as out or questionable. That is Michael Hall, the defensive tackle. Um you know, rotational guy. He’s not a starter for them, but he will be out and then nobody else is questionable for them. So Miles Garrett, all these other guys that were on the practice or was on the injury report for Cleveland this week, they’re all good to go. So Cleveland is going into this game pretty darn healthy. All right. So, um, you know, if the Steelers beat them on Sunday, they’re pretty much beating the best version of the Browns that there is. So, that would be, uh, a really good sign for their chances of, you know, proving that they’re the best team in the AFC North right now if they can beat the Cleveland Browns, uh, at home on Sunday. Also, it was announced today by Browns head coach Kevin Stfansky that Shadur Sanders will officially be the team’s number two quarterback behind Dylan Gabriel. So, if Gabriel leaves the game with an injury, it will be Shur Sanders getting his first ever NFL action playing against the team that he was heavily linked to before the NFL draft here in the Pittsburgh Steelers. Um, you know, I would say I’m guessing Gabriel’s going to play the entire game, but injuries do happen. Um, and either way, guys, I think the Pittsburgh Steelers defense led by Mike Tomlin, who just eats rookie quarterbacks for breakfast. Pause. Um, yeah, and you know, I just don’t think either one of these guys is going to be able to uh really move the football effectively through the air. I think if Cleveland has a lot of success this week, it’s probably going to come through the run game with Quinn Sean Judkins. We have seen a couple of uh dynamic backs like Kenneth Walker and Bruce Hall get over 100 yard performances against this Steelers run defense. So, we’ll see if Cleveland can kind of replicate that success. if they can’t, I think it’s going to be really tough for them to put points on the board um against this Steelers defense. So, um that’s it for Cleveland side of things. And then to kind of wrap up today’s show, guys, Lamar Jackson, the Baltimore Ravens quarterback, is officially out for this week’s matchup versus the Los Angeles Rams. That was expected. Now, it’s been confirmed. And Lamar missing this week versus a legit Super Bowl contender in my opinion in the Los Angeles Rams means like their defense stinks. I know they’re getting a couple defenders back this week from injury, but their defense stinks. And then you have Cooper Rush that’s pretty much going to be asked to win a shootout versus Matthew Stafford. I don’t care if the Ravens are home. I would have the RA I would have the Rams be significant favorites in that ball game. And of course, if that happens, uh Baltimore will be sitting at 1 and5 come Sunday evening. And uh you know if they’re sitting at 1 and5 man that really really really you know you know narrows the goal postul that they need to hit uh in order to not only you know win the division over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North this year but just to make the playoffs. Like usually in the in the AFC especially you got to win 10 games to make the playoffs. And there’s a number of you know quote unquote playoff caliber teams to this point that have shown that you know they could be worthy of making the playoffs. you know, not only the Bills in the AFC’s, but the Patriots look like they could be a playoff team. Um, you know, in the AFC South, you got two pretty darn good teams sitting at 4- one right now in the Colts and the Jaguars. Um, and then in the West, man, you’ve got the Chiefs, you’ve got the Chargers, and you got the Broncos that could all make the playoffs. So, I think this year you got to get at least 10 wins to be a wildcard team in the AFC. And if the Ravens are starting one and five, like they got to come out of the buy. And I know their schedule’s not like the most difficult in the world coming out of the buy, but like they cannot afford to miss. They have to win every game that they should. Not to mention, if they want a chance at the division, they would probably have to sweep the Pittsburgh Steelers down the stretch. Uh usually the Steelers at least win one game against the Baltimore Ravens in a given season. And you know, I I just don’t know if that defense is actually going to be able to turn it around. like they’re going to have to be the best team in football to kind of turn around their season if they start this year off one and five just to make the postseason and you know if the Steelers just take care of their business man if they win the games that they’re supposed to win or at least most of them and then they can pepper in some wins against some of the tougher teams that they play down the stretch you know Green Bay and Indianapolis and Los Angeles and Buffalo and Detroit if you can win you know two or three of those games along with you know taking care of business against inferior teams this year you’re going to sitting at at least 10 wins this year, guys. Probably 11, maybe even 12. And um you know, you’re going to have a chance not only to win the AFC North, but to have a pretty decent seat, maybe even be uh outside of the four seed and, you know, maybe even contend for the number one seed in the AFC. I don’t want to get too ahead of myself here, guys, but I do believe in the in this Pittsburgh Steelers team. I think that they’ve gotten better every single week to this point. Now, they’re coming off a buy. They’re getting healthy. They’re feeling confident. Uh, and I think this team is built with all the new players coming in, all the new veterans. I think this team is built to play their best football towards the end of the season and to continuously play better as the season goes on. So hopefully we see that progression continue on Sunday. We will be live starting at 12:00 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday for the Steelers Talk watch party. Um, like I said guys, we’re probably going to hit 100,000 subscribers on that stream. So, if you want to come celebrate that with us and hopefully celebrate another Steelers victory on Sunday, make sure you guys click that subscribe button if you haven’t already and join us on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Easter.

He's going to play.
All three should make a difference if they are truly healthy. Fingers crossed. Here we go steelers!
Roman Wilson is a Bust !
Real one
This is what happens when you believe in Gerry Dulac! he gives out false statements and doesn’t know what he reports.
Just dropping off a comment for the algorithms
Jalen Ramsey is so gangster, so grateful he’s a steeler
Miller starting over Roman isn't some crazy concept. He's proven. Roman isn't.
Ravens lose n we beat 2 division opponents this upcoming week LETS GO STEELERS!!!! WE OWN THE NORTH THIS YEAR
Jalen Ramsey is playing on Sunday changes everything
That's something that the browns did not want to hear now they got to find a way to try to beat them down filled and good luck at that😅😅
what’s the yinzers opinion on the giants upsetting the eagles?
11:55 nah you got it 💀
Need Ramsey more for bengals on short week
I think we should trade a 5th or 6th rounder for WR Christian Watson. Dude is an elite deep threat and speedy playmaker at 6'4" when healthy. He would open up the passing game and has chemistry with Rodgers. Plus he's only getting paid like $12 million APY. Dude has elite WR potential if he can just stay healthy. Would be worth a swing with low risk.
