  1. Preller belongs in SD for life tbh, he just fits the vibe so perfectly and seems truly dedicated to bringing the city a championship for Peter

  2. Many people on here will lose their minds about this but I’m honestly stoked. Especially about the Preller part. I was half worried the new owners would use this early exit as an excuse to move on from AJ and demand excellence or whatever. If we moved on after letting him go through his growing pains on the job it would have sucked. I honestly believe AJ is the best scout in the game and will always give 1000% effort. Plus he isn’t afraid to aggressively court any player, even if it s a longshot. I think amongst all GMs he is the best bet to rebuild this barren farm system with a quickness.

  3. I was skeptical of AJ for a long while but the AJ/Shildt era has really won me over. I think he’s earned the right to be here as long as he wants to be.

  4. I really and sincerely don’t think AJ has ever been the problem. He’s done so much for us and I think we’re just a victim of expectations. But he’s the one that gave us this culture of expectations in the first place. He should go down as a legend for us.

  5. Fantastic. Love both of them. I hope yu gets a spot in the front office when his time comes. All great ambassadors for SD and the game.

  6. I’ve criticized Preller plenty and I don’t always agree with his moves, but he’s brought about one of the longest competitive windows in the franchises history. He deserves the chance to see it through. At least with him we know the team is going for it.

  7. I like it.

Didn’t agree with some of their decisions this year, but what the fuck do I know about running a ball club.

    Let them cook.

  8. Say what ya want about Preller. Come every trade deadline…. Every opposing player wishes they had a GM like AJ.

  9. AJ literally brought us from irrelevance to consistently being one of the most exciting teams in the sport.

  10. Completely unrelated but what is that ratty horrible shirt Preller is wearing? A seam down the center of the back?

  11. Unpopular opinion: Preller is fine but Mike Shildt is a problem. He doesn’t hold players accountable and runs his team contrary to modern analytical principles. This is NOT a formula for success—we saw this with the Cards when he put in Jose Reyes in a close game against LA.

This team won 90+ games last two years not because of Mike Shildt but IN SPITE of Mike Shildt

  12. Preller has earned it. Even though we don’t have a ring yet, he works tirelessly to try and improve the team and finds the prospects to trade.

  13. This is a good move.  Hopefully we can just change the bunting philosophy.  I do t mind it at time but it went to far.

All we really need is to fix the rotation and have tatis his old swing.  I feel comfortable that Merrill will have a great season and manny will be on par with what he normally does.

Between those three guys the supporting cast should be good enough.

  14. Expecting anything else after back to back 90 win seasons is silly.

That said, please kill the bunt culture.

  15. Shildt has been the best manager we’ve had since Pat Murphy. AJ is to San Diego as what coke is to Preller. Both deserve long term contracts.

  16. When AJ can stand next to Shildt while he’s taking a piss and hold a casual conversation, you know they’ve got chemistry.

(Sorry, I let myself hit post)

  17. Still waiting for the Rodriguez termination announcement. Schildt is on the hot seat going into next year. Preller deserves a 5-10 year extension.

  18. I like shilt a lot, 90 wins with those starting pitchers and that shitty slug is impressive. Lets be frank, tatis and manny are both divas now, he’s the right manager for them, we just need someone like bogey to step up in the clubhouse, he’s been here long enough to lead now he just has to perform.

  19. AJ is fine but I don’t want to see Mike out there telling them to bunt and NEVER changing the lineup anymore, I’m over the guy. I think they won 90 games despite him, not because of him.

  20. Consistency isn’t a bad thing, I’m game to run this out for a few more years. We’ll need AJ’s eye to help refill the farm and also keep this team competitive.

  21. I’m not saying Preller needs to be fired but in the past three years, he’s spent over $600 million and traded probably 50 prospects and we have one postseason series win to show for it. We didn’t even get a home playoff game this year. Why rush into an extension?

  22. Hope AJ gets extended. He seems to be the only one that knows how to drive this crazy machine he’s built.

I do think we need a manager that can put the big guys in their place. Someone that has won before, if not multiple times. That is willing to adjust and not worry about hurting anyone’s feelings.

  23. just remember

the last 3 managers AJ[](https://alb.reddit.com/cr?za=7lhyanLa3lF_esHlRKUAFbrfDXcACMsKsurKxQous1EXCu13gF6soqegYAXE4fbLqDHIlS-MSx-97vukhfIBIDWlX7JCqfT7ZF6Tt5g1h6LuwuiVEcb6-hi-9hrxTp7TGabvXfzmWmrk352gsw9qr-1rE70jpOr0VhhsoasqMDabXX15ZTuOerJaS7KkWvQuElZH9eybsetYrJNJa6zLTAEDV6-Izg4nvgI1Qn692pmpXaT9lL-MTderHkLPG7ZmXCXF_Xek-cngOa9ebJQO_3nr6JovaMiAbLuETXEqIoXZZpmoEG0Hh6yGkC0rovx-Nn3-EB8lS2VVARHflGsdiYXLdE0Cqi7WAZP5mbXSv–sqWVVeFpT6tCzZTxWFr1roaZe64TwrcTFNfALmoN7g14ivFQOCGxLuPzFOM0KVGvZ8EmV58jvjvA1yv6olAEKk3iDZ55PMyb_Ncc7vK0ihsPYExgpBwvVnC5yroZJds1T4DkdjN1IFTf289pfUwHauLiYNBSv6PDLLoi0cJ6mnYuilH9JxCf3qBjO6CqE9ABp39Eo0M4Vw0xUk8Ut2eIIGak4S3CgNEp9NLcXwtbZLuiibR7ms50YyMlJADGCTCLPswOhui8Jd96dovvnY1Yz8z4G1Q&zp=eIoBrxSmuD4j8X6i39tnyz5KjvAhJIZ7_2tzfdQ-YzokImOIAVqeVYy9g3VQmYsRp2CCCqV1ywjFc8xy2-EqPbTkM8hCvwBVgvGvNd7s5HDTGLD6_sGdvd2WfMW2QaYhKPYERSrhzmyCSAJ3IKUbdZlH-bMTDtPwvP7wrh6yTYhKgutWOERJZvB5COl_qNWvJB5NUt8z7B5E6OV-hr65WV4oxtsXijJRRrHgzrolZQmWRaKbBambPZQHhBh_-eyZFlvSchGzSMQch7VbewTlNzhEqG6YbgFUzXhVagtWhuQJ7nzlPhXI5miKD9Z5HCyMRXL5pD4cfpcu1mgmsWxfbWdZDYZfdCSMNEpOkMVn0Z2nVa4H6aU0A9LW4YLi5u3E2x306XbnFTykAv0ALw&a=475619&b=475477&be=475411&c=475359&d=289421&e=289402&ea=289407&eb=289392&f=289387&r=6&g=1&i=1760142994117&t=1760143532415&o=1&q=1&h=204&w=732&sh=1440&sw=2560&va=1&vb=0&vc=0&vd=0&ve=0&vg=1&vh=0&vi=0&vs=0&vt=0&vu=0&vv=0&vx=0&vw=0&vq=0&vr=0&vy=0&xe=0&vz=0&xa=0&xf=0&xb=0&vf=0&xc=0) has hired have brought them into the playoffs

you’re not gonna go far in the playoffs when your horses play like donkeys

Only problem I have with AJ is I wish he would build more through the farm instead of trading every chip away

Not gonna blame him for the Manny extension or X contract….it was a desperate time

Shildt is nothing special to me, but you can’t argue with the regular season results….just hope when the day comes Niebla expresses he wants to be a manager…they don’t let him leave and give him the job

  24. I will not take anyone seriously who thinks we should fire Shildt. And if you’re inventing “doesn’t hold guys accountable” BS, you’re not in the locker room, you don’t know what is said. Changing the order doesn’t send messages, it just fucks with things for no reason. Consistency is good and the club will be better for it. If some of the maniacs here were in charge we’d have a new manager every 2 years and we’d never get anyone good because guys aren’t going to interview for that garbage.

That said, we need to do whatever it takes to hold onto Ruben. Anything

  25. By this organizations standards, back to back 90 win seasons will get you an extension. By championship level organization standards, Preller would be long gone. 10 years, tons of hype, tons of trades, tons of managerial changes and we have 0 NL West titles, 0 Pennants, and 0 championships.

  26. Our stars consistently fading in playoffs isn’t his fault. He’s making Champaign out of dog shit most years
