Love the I kind of like this 100 anniversary Rangers kit. It’s simple, but the blue is a little little like pastel almost. It’s got some white in it. Nice looking kit. They’re losers tonight. Savanad can’t get to him. Malcolm just saucers one to Barcel. Nice. Two nothing Penguins this game. Justin Brazil in his debut. It’s his second goal tonight. So, he gets both. He gets the winner and the empty netter. Nice look for him. Just 11 goals last year between uh split between the Bruins and the Wild. So, big first night as a Penguin for him. A lot of talk about Crosby. I think it’s I mean seems pretty likely like Crosby is going to get traded this year. Could be some serious deadline debate. I wonder if he’ll get he’ll move after the Olympic break. I think that’s what makes more sense. still playing though. A minute and a half on the ice. Penn’s in the zone here running out the clock. Shesteren played an amazing game. It’s not going to look like it with this three nothing loft, but he only gave up a goal and he was fantastic. Let’s see how many shots there were in net. So, yeah, he faced 27 shots tonight when he was actually in net and he looked great. Penn’s just killing time now. Scooping it up. Let’s uh switch over to the ABS and start talking pregame stuff here. All right, so ABS Kings, we’re about seven minutes away from puck drop on opening night. It’s going to be fire here. McKinnon, of course, going to be the the big one. Anybody playing fantasy, anybody just excited about hockey is going to be ready for that. And the Kings, too. The Kings are a funny team. They’ve had a great couple of seasons, 100 points backto-back years, but just haven’t been able to to figure it out in the playoffs. So, Dan Muse winning his first game there as the coach of the Penguins behind the bench. Um, exciting for them and Kyle Dubass maybe. And Archer Cops is going to get a shut out in his Penguins debut. So, pretty exciting. I mean, I don’t know if you’re a Penguins fan. It’s debatable if you actually want them to win too much this year. You might you might prefer that the rebuild is on and they they trade Crosby and get in the Gavin McKenna sweep stakes. Rangers walking off in shame here. Yeah, the R this Rangers team I have them kind of middle of the pack, but I do think they could have a real fall off. They could easily miss the playoffs this year. They’re in a little bit of like no man’s land uh to celebrate their hundth year. They’re interviewing the pens talking about Sully being on the other side of the net tonight. Pretty funny. Ricard Rashelle, 24 shifts, 16 minutes of ice, three shots tonight. He’s probably your best bet on the pens for fantasy this year other than Crosby. I don’t think is Blackwood playing tonight for the AS. That’s interesting. games in LA at Crypto Arena. Colorado scratches. No. Okay, so Black Mckenzie Blackwood is hurt. Who’s starting in net for the ABS? Wedgewood. I guess this could be this could be a better hockey game than I thought. I think the Kings have a real shot of winning tonight. They could do better. Biffield, Lefier, Turf, Cece, Keer. I mean, if you think of just think of just the goalies, Darcy Keer is, you know, playing against his old team. He’s about as good as it gets. And uh I’m not putting any money on Wedgewood. Let’s look at Scott Wedgewood stats. Last game got one game played in the playoffs. Didn’t register any stats. Not a bad I mean 917 and 199 are pretty pretty dirty. Like he had some good stats last year but only played 19 games. All right, they got the mess and TJ Oshi on now talking about Sheil and his shut out debut for the Penguins. Stopped 25 shots. Looked good. Wow, Mess is looking weathered but very Florida. He’s got that Arizona Florida tan going. Mess has been hanging out in the sun in the off season. Good for him. Wiry, man. Looks a bit like a dinosaur. Oh, McKinnon, seven goals, four assists in the playoffs, and all for not coming off a year last year. Let’s look at the stats. 116 point year. Unfreaking real. 32 goals, 84 assists. I mean, he’s got a real shot at at all of it. The Ross being the player of the year. Be interesting to see contractwise, too. see what happens. Everything’s going to change because of that new David contract, of course. All right, looking at Landis Gogg, we got 18 minutes till puck drop in the ABS Kings game. Excited about this one. Three games on opening night. This one’s definitely going to be the best one. Kings and ABS. These are two legit contenders. Quinton Biffield now is the real star in LA. Obviously, Copitar is uh he’s doing his sort of whatever you call it, his bell lap of this bell lap. He’s on the ice now warming up. gonna build a statue of Copitar out in front of Krypto Stadium next year. He’s that good. All right, what do we got? Feel like I could rip on and do a We’ll do tier ranking. Tier ranking NHL teams. All right, we’re going to rip through an NHL tei list and kill the 20 minutes and the warm-up time to the game. Let’s start out with Okay. Okay. Well, we just watched Penn’s Rangers. Maybe we’ll kick it off with Pens and Rangers. The Pens got the win. Uh, honestly though, I think Pens are Dtier. I think this is a full rebuild year for them. Crosby, I think highly likely to get traded. He was in the Red Couch interview the other day and he was talking about it like it’s a real possibility. And when they asked him, he literally was just like, “Well, that’s going to happen whenever you’re losing.” So, I think the Pens are are in rebuild. Exciting that they got some young players. Brezo looked good. The goalie looked good, but uh they’re Dtier. They’re they could be if they make trades, if they get rid of Malcin and Crosby, they could be in the Gavin McKenna sweep stakes. The Rangers uh I think the Rangers are a better team. Sherkin is awesome, but maybe it takes them October with the new coach with Sullivan to figure out sort of how that team looks. Um where Troche is in the lineup, what works for them, what what doesn’t. Um earlier tonight, who kicked it off? Oh, it was Blackhawks, right? So, the Blackhawks in their first game of the night played against the Panthers. The Blackhawks, we’ll start with them, are definitely Dtier. They’re a mess. They have one They’re one line. Uh Frank Nazar, Todd Bertusi, and Terivvenan. Terrainan. I can’t say his name properly. Terrain. They actually look nice. They look nice in the Bard line. that second line. It looked like a real uh threat. They scored two goals tonight. There was, you know, a moment, it was a tight game where they actually looked like they could beat the Panthers. Spencer Knight looked okay in net. Um he looked like a real starter and they were just getting shelled. I think going into the second period, they were outshot about 20 to four by the Panthers. So, Blackhawks Dtier, I mean, they’re another team if they end up with a Gavin McKenna or a real prospect or maybe a real solid number one defenseman next year, they could be right in the thick of it rebuild wise. Uh, some other Dtier teams, the Sharks, no doubt the Sharks are I mean, their rebuild under my career looks awesome, but they are definitely in the middle of figuring out a new look down there in the Bay Area. uh Celabbrini, Mlin Celbrini obviously is the the big hype going into this year along with Will Smith and then they just drafted Michael Misa. He’s going to play they traded for Orlov um from the Kane. So he’ll he’ll probably be their number one Dman there. And but the goalkeeping is just brutal. The the the Sharks have no goalkeeping really. I think they’re they’re full rebuild still. Uh, again, another team. I think they have two first round picks, too, next year. So, they could really, you know, three or four years from now, they could be something. Let’s look at the other bottom feeders. We’ll go worst to first here. Um, oh, this isn’t the Utes, but that’s okay. We’ll stick with it. I think the Bruins. Oh, no. You know what? No, no. Sabres. We’re going Sabres here. The Sabres are just What did they do? They traded JJ Peter in the off season and they’re just basically waiting for Raasmus Delin to carry them to victory. Tage Thompson was awesome last year, especially five on five. I think he led the league in five on five goals. But I mean, what’s Buffalo doing? Where are they going? They’re going to continue their record streak of not making the NHL playoffs, if you ask me. Um, oh, the Flyers, too. Flyers are definitely Dtier. Um, okay, Flyers. So, what’s exciting about them? They have that young guy, Mitch Mitch Machonov, the double M, Mitch Konov. Um, he looks great. He’s going to be a somebody, no doubt. Um, we can pull up advanced stack cards when we do this. So, I think the Flyers are, you know, they also got Zaggress, right? They signed Zaggress, which is an interesting sort of move. Um, was it an overpay? Was it an underpay? I’m not 100% sure. I think Zegress is a guy who, you know, he was supposed to be the the sort of centerpiece of the rebuild in um in Anaheim. I think I’m wearing a Ducks hat, too. And that sort of didn’t work out for him. So, what does it mean long term? Uh, it means he gets another shot at it in the Flyers. Yeah, let’s put his player card up there. Okay, so we got the Zaggress player card. If you look at that war, projective war, 47%. Pretty pretty mid. That is average stuff. And if you look at his stats, too, he he almost looks like he peaks, right? I mean, he goes up big time for 23 24 and then he just drops off last year. So, kind of the opposite of what you want to see in a player. His war percentile rank has gone down every year since he entered the league. Um, not a huge cap hit, but still that’s pretty oof oof pretty woof. Um, and then I forget the other guy’s exact name. They have that speedy winger Mitch McConn. And then, uh, he was talking trash about the dump and chase. Pretty funny offseason story. So, that’s five in the bottom. Do we add another bottom feeder? I’m on the fence here about the Kraken. I think the Kraken could take a drop off. Uh the Predators. Oh god. Yeah, the Predators are bottom feeder. The Preds are old AF. Uh they’re a bunch of them are like almost my age. I mean, you just have, you know, even Philip Forsber is getting up. Stamos is mid30s. Their poor goalie, Juicy Sorrowos. I think Sorrowos could be an incredible trade bait. He’s kind of the lynch pin of their team, but honestly, they’re not going anywhere. They’re not winning. So, why not why not move on from him? Um, I think that’s good. That’s our solid D tier there. The Pens, the Blackhawks, the Sharks, the Sabres, the Flyers, and the Pred. The next worst team I think is the Kraken. I would No, the Bruins. O, it’s tough. Bruins or Kraken are right there. They’re neck and neck. You know, I’m going to say the Kraken. And here’s why. They don’t have a star. Who is a Kraken star? Joey Decord, their new goalkeeper, US goalkeeper. He’s got his own YouTube channel. He’s been pumping out some videos lately. That’s kind of exciting. It’s an exciting thing about their team. Uh but like Matty Bees is another one of those guys. We’ll pull up his advanced stats. He’s one of those guys who you’re just waiting for the promise to show up, right? They had that nice run when he was a rookie. They go into the playoffs. He looks like the future of the franchise. you know, not dissimilar to to what we saw with Zegris, but here’s a there’s nice, right? So, he has this drop off and then he bumps back up stats wise big improvements 2425 over 2324. So, I do like that. That’s interesting. I wouldn’t have thought that the sort of hot take on the street is that Benur’s um is not showing up probably because his EV on offense and his power play are absolute dog [ __ ] But um you know, look at that. He looks okay on defense. It’s it’s the scoring basically, right? You see that in the color codes there. His scoring is what’s holding him back. He’s still only 21 though. So I think Matty Benz is going to be it for the the Seattle team. They’re going to live and die by him. Maybe if they have something in that goalie decord, they can move on from Grubau because Grubau is overpaid. He makes a lot of money and his contract’s definitely going to hold them back. Uh, okay. So, we got Kraken Ctier for sure. Who’s next? Oh, it’s the Bruins. Okay, look. The Bruins for me would be right here in Dtier. They’d be right at the bottom. Total pits, but this is a huge butt. They still have pasta. And pasta is a legit superstar. And Swayman has also shown flashes, like real flashes. But, I mean, I don’t even have to show you these, but I’m going to for fun. You know, David Pastnack is, depending on the night, top five, top 10 in the league. Um, you know, he’s as good as anyone, I think. And I mean, look, the data, look at this. It all backs it up. Look at that number. Projective war, 99th percentile, right? He’s literally in the top 1% of NHL players statistically. He’s younger than you might think. He’s only 28 years old. The cap hit 11.3. I think it’s a steal. It doesn’t sound like as much of a steal now that we know uh McDavid signed for 12.5, but McDavid pulled the old Tom Brady, right? He’s trying to help his team out to win. Look at this war percentile rank. 100 99 100. I mean, this guy’s a freaking stud. Took a bit of a defensive drop off last year, but I think that can also just be the team around him, right? Swayman was not great last year. Gave up a lot of goals. The defense is falling off a cliff. So you see his his defense there at 36% is pretty weak, but I think as as long as past man’s on the ice, you can’t put them in Dtier. You just can’t. They’re such a he’s such a legitimate superstar. Uh and I know I have Crosby down here in Dtier, but it’s different. He’s at a different point in his career. So I’m going to stand by that one. And we’re going to move on. Who’s next? Oof. Um, my Calgary Flames. Maybe the Islanders. Uh, no, the Red Wings. The Red Wings, I think. Yeah, we’re going to get the Red Wings in here. The Red Wings are mid. What did the Red Wings do in this off season? They got Gibson. They traded for John Gibson, so they have a decent goalie. The The Who days are over. Um, I don’t know what else. Honestly, I don’t know what else the Red Wings did this offseason. They’re one of those teams that’s sort of been rebuilding, but is the rebuild going anywhere? We’re 645 till puck drop, by the way. So, maybe I should hurry up this tier list. ABS Kings NHL opening night coming up. We’ll do a full playbyplay on it. Let’s go. Um, you know, sad story obviously with Gudro. I mean, he’s one of my favorites. When I was living out in Calgary watching the Flames, Gudro and his whole family are absolute legends. And Shawn Monahan, you know, his best friend, went down to play with him, Columbus. And then after that absolute tragedy, um, Monahan had his best year as a hockey player statistically by a mile. So he was obviously energized by the tragedy of his friend’s death and and Monahan, you know, played incredible like almost like looking like a real star and obviously Zach Worinsky is a real star. So that, you know, a team like Columbus when you have a couple stars and then do you get any decent goalending that becomes the question. Um, we can look at Warenski and also at Monahan stats, but these guys are both real, you know, real players. So, let’s see. You got that there. Yeah. So, Warren stats here. I mean, he is incredible. It’s interesting. He actually dropped off two years ago, probably because he was hurt. He’s another guy with a four-year under 10 million cap hit. 27 years old in the 97% of the 100% on offense and goals, assists, everything in there. His compete level’s a little lower than I would have thought. Um, and then let’s get up Monahan because Monahan took a huge leap in his career last year. I remember when it was like him, Gudro, and Sam Bennett were the kids in uh in Calgary in the Flames a few years ago. You look at this. Look at that line, right? He’s going from a nobody to a sort of midpack 74enter all the way up to what is that 70 or 80% last year. Okay. So, over 75%. So, this is really like a legitimate top line top six guy. Eevee on offense was 88%. The power play 74%. Competition and teammates and first assists 98%. So, I mean, this is for him. This is a real a leap, a massive leap and step forward. So, could be exciting. All right, let’s get back to the tears. Enough about Columbus. Um, who do we got next? Who do we got next? Uh, Islanders. What am I going to say about Islanders? Lou’s finally gone, so maybe they’ll be able to grow beards. Exciting times. Uh, they drafted the first overall defender, Matt Schaefer. He’s going to play this year. You know, I used to go to games all the time when I was in Calgary, but they stink. There’s not a lot to love about this team except young studs. The new defenseman Zayn Zayn perique peri I don’t know how to say his name properly. He has a real shot at maybe being an all-star player. You know, a sort of lynch pin for the next decade. Dustin Wolf could be right there in the conversation. You know, starting national team games, winning playoff games. And I think when you have a keeper that good, you’re always in the mix. So unless unless Wolfe has some sort of big regression, I think they’re still right there. Uh the Blues again, this is probably a playoff team. You know, everyone saw it. They pushed the President’s Trophy, Winnipeg Jets, right right till the end last year. We’re in Anthems, by the way. We’ll get to the ABS Kings later. So, the Blues, yeah, they’re a playoff team again or very close to a playoff team in that one of those wild card slots. Maybe it depends on Jordan Bennington. Uh, I got Binner in my fantasy league. Binner looked great in Four Nations, I’m sure, as many of you know, but it’s not too deep of a team depthwise. Okay, who’s next? Who’s next? I think we’re in this Canadians Senators range now. The Canucks I think have the talent to be right up here in you know the top two tiers of the league. But um that weird Person regression we saw last year was just didn’t make any sense. uh statistically I can I’ll pull that up and show you the Elliott Patterson stats from last last little while were just I mean he looked like a different player after and he got paid. So here he is. So Project War this is a guy who’s supposed to be in the 96 percentile of the league which sounds great on paper. Uh here’s the reality though. Two years ago he was a 1enter. He was the absolute creme to the creme in the NHL. had a little drop off in 23 24 and then a significant drop off last year. So you see it his defensive rating plummets for one year then bumps back up last year but the finishing and the offense both really really fell off right I mean we’re talking a guy up in the sort of 75 80% range in the league dropping down to 25% it’s just unacceptable especially his cap hit 11.6 6 million. It’s a guy who’s now getting paid and it’s going to happen to everyone. So, two bad guys. He’s a guy who’s getting paid, you know, in that Conor McDavid range. So, that’s the reality. That’s what you’re going to who you’re going to get compared to. And he is the guy who makes the difference for Vancouver now, right? They moved on from JT Miller. He’s in down here in the Rangers. Uh it’s going to be all about is Demco healthy? Is Quinn Hughes healthy? A lot of talk that Quinn Hughes might go play with his brothers in the Devils on the Devils in New Jersey in two years. So, I think Vancouver has to, you know, I got my Canucks jersey up where up here over my shoulder. The the Canucks need to need to get it done. They’ve got to they’ve got to act now. I think the And the flip side too, right, is like if the Canucks become a serious contender, then maybe Quinn Hughes sticks around. I think these So, these next teams are playoffs teams. These are real playoff teams that are going 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14, right? So, two of these teams will make the playoffs. Get 16 teams to playoffs. Two of these are wild card teams. These are my teams that I basically think are playoff locks, barring some sort of um freaking disaster, i.e. injuries. So, let’s start with the Wild. Possibly the least exciting, perhaps the most exciting. Obviously, they just paid huge money to Carol Caprosov. He’s now uh the highest paid, richest hockey player, not just in the NHL, in the history of planet Earth. Making what is he making? 16 odd million a year. 12.5 ABG is criminal. Nice, Jack. Um, so I think the Wild need to be a playoff team. They’re going to be a playoff team. And if you look at their record before Kappa got hurt last year, so whatever it is from fall until December or January, uh, they were amazing. They’re absolutely incredible. Again, they look pretty decent in the playoffs, too. But I think it’s like, you know, what do the Oilers look like if McDavid gets hurt? They probably look like the Wild without Caprosoft, right? They look like a middle to average team. I know they still have dry citle, but it’s just the reality. This is a team dependent on having a big star and having a big star makes all the difference in sports. So I I got them in the playoffs for sure as long as Kurill stays out on the ice. Next up, the Senators. The Senators I love this year. I think the Senators have an outside shot at making a deep run, maybe going in all the way to the Eastern Conference final. Uh they got Lis Lionus Olark, the old uh one half of the Boston goalie duo, the swayman. He’s a legit goalie. Brady Tachchuk is I mean he’s becoming one of my favorite players in the league. He’s just awesome. Everything about Brady Tachuk is awesome. He’s got a little bit more skill I think a little bit more skating ability than his brother even though he’s not not um obviously as proven yet as Matthew Chuck with his multiple cup wins. Saddest thing ever him being traded from Calgary. We’re not going to talk about it. So Brady Chuchchuk right now, see projected war up in the 94th percentile. And look at this, right? This is a guy who just his defense gets so much better. Yes, his finishing went down a little bit. Offense right up in that top 100th percentile. Boom, boom, boom. Three years in a row, right? So this is a guy who’s absolute superstar. And if he just improves on the finishing, I think he’s there with anyone. Obviously, the team is only going to go so far as as he carries them, but you know, Bath, Drake Bath’s hurt right now. He’ll be back soon. I think the Senators are are loaded up, locked and loaded, ready for a serious deep playoff run this year. Uh, and I’m excited for it. Um, I don’t know if we’ll get a Battle of Ontario first round, but maybe that’s a good thing. Maybe this year seeing the Battle of Ontario second round um would be a best case scenario. Speaking of which, I think the next team on this list is probably the Leafs or the Devils. The Leafs, uh, their biggest offseason move, my my lovely Leafs. Should I put on my Leafs cap when I do this? Maybe I should put on my Leafs cap to talk about them. My filthy old Leafs cap. I’m not replacing this cap until they win something. No, no buying loser team caps. Um, the Leafs lost miner in the offseason. Why did they do that? Well, they did that because for [ __ ] years, none of their general managers have pulled the trigger or made a big move or done anything other than just, you know, sit and watch the so-called big four not do anything come playoff time. Um, I don’t think there’s much to say about the Leafs other than the fact that they won the Atlantic Division last year, uh, and they’re probably going to regress this year. I don’t I mean, nothing about them implies a better team. Don’t say anything about Matias Machelli or whatever. Are you Jack? You think the Leafs will win the Atlantic? I I think they’re in third place maybe in the Atlantic. Uh we’ll see though. We’ll see. Um well, okay, we’ll get there. Okay, so Leafs, boom. Then got the Devils. The Devils, I think, have an outside shot of winning their division, possibly moving past the Canes this year. They just signed Luke Hughes to the big deal. Jack Hughes is healthy. Obviously, there’s all the rumors all three brothers want to play together at one point, in which case they create some sort of super juggernaut brother team. Speaking of Canadians, we got Ryan Reynolds on team on TV pitching Mint Mobile. Used to live in Kitano with him. So, the Devils, I think the Devils are great. I think Markstrom in that for them is going to be solid. Uh the Luke Hughes signing is a big deal and they’re a real serious contender. Playoffs and a whole lot more if they uh if they stay healthy and get into it. Next up, I have the team we’re watching right now, but these they look so good they could even move up. LA is one of those teams. I mean, do we want to call them the Leafs of the Western Division? They got maybe not because they have Darcy camp. Yeah, prove it. Year for the Leafs for how many years running? 50 years. I’m taking this hat off. It stinks. Um, I’m so cynical about the Leafs. I don’t even like talking about them. I could not stand the Kyle Dubis Leafs and I cannot stand the Kyle Dubis Penguins. I don’t even want to wake up to watch them. Uh, yeah. So, we got LA Kings. They look awesome right now tonight with Biffield. Uh, Kopitar, it’s his last season. There’s going to be a lot of push to to do something with him there. Kempe looks good. Um, the defense is awesome. They have some older guys like Dowy back there, young guys like Brandt Clark waiting to take over in the wings. Um, they look like studs tonight. They’re locking down the abs through the first period. Um, so let’s do it in that way. Let’s say ABS. No, ABS has to be S tier. Playoffs and much mass. Who else? I think the Caps belong in here. I think the Caps take a bit of aggression. They have a lot of awesome young prospects. Who’s the monster? The big dude, Prous. The six foot sixer. Prous is gonna I mean, let’s not forget about him. He’s out there. He’s a stud for sure. Uh, incredible skill for a guy of his size. Obviously, Obie, he’s going to hit 900 goals. Is he going to push all the way up for a,000 goals? Obie’s a legend. Um, you know, I remember back in the day, Don Cherry, before he got cancelled or thrown off TV or whatever, the CBC told him they didn’t want to pay him anymore. he would talk about how he liked Obie as much or more than Sid the Kid. So I think it’s played out that they’re different but but equally incredible players. Um so I have the caps here, but yes, taking a bit of a regression um from last year where they’re just on fire. So the top eight, these are the teams that I think are going to be playing each other more or less for for a cup. Am I loaded on the West? I think I might be loaded on the west here. Or did I do this right? I am. I’m too heavy on the west. So, I have to pull out a west team and drop an east team in. Okay. So, I’m going to take the back. The Panthers or the Caps stay up. And we got to knock one team from the West out of here. Dallas, ABS, Spilers, Knights. It’s the Jets. Sorry Jets. I love you. I love you Jets fans. I’m I mean, there’s nothing cooler than going to a hockey game in Winnipeg. Um, you think the caps are too high? I don’t know. I think the Caps are real legit. I guess if you think the Leafs or the Devils will take the Caps out. Um, yeah. So, I got the Jets dropping off. The Jets are amazing, but they lost. Eers, statistically, Eers is just an incredible, incredible player. We can look him up. His all of his advanced stats are uh are stunning. He’s just an incredible guy. and they lost him. They replaced him with aged Jonathan Taves. Um, I like Jonathan Taves, but he’s been out of hockey for a while, I think, because he had some personal problems, which usually means someone’s sort of drinking or off the wagon or something. I don’t know what was up with Jonathan Taves, but he is not a guy at this point in his career who can replace Nikolai Eers, who’s off to the Canes. I think Eers is one of the underrated stars. Yes, Kyle Connor is still there. Kyle Connor is going to be hoping to get paid soon. But if you look at Eers, 94% projected wins over replacement. And he’s a guy who’s been moving up, too. So, he’s just just a little bit, but I mean, when you’re that high, when you’re in the top five, 10, 5% of the league, it’s hard to move up, but you see his finishing is getting better. His offense has stayed there. This took a bit of a regression, but that’s okay. Either way, he’s gone from Winnipeg. I think they’re not relying on Kyle Connors, on Shley. um on pian on defense uh I I don’t see it. Hell, you know, Heluk is the best goalie in the league or the world maybe, but um yeah, they’re for me they’re the one they’re the team that pulls back after that president’s trophy. Uh we saw them almost lose in the first round and then kind of get brushed aside in the second round. Okay, so now we’re up to our top eight. Definitely I just kept the Cavs Caps here because I needed a fourth team from the East. Um, these for me are the cup contenders. Legit odds and worth laying cash. Okay. Yeah. So, these are teams that like are legit. I would lay some cash on them if the odds are right. Uh, I can’t spell, but that’s okay. We’ll just say worth worth worse to first. Yeah. So, the Caps the first one. I already talked about them. I would have had them in the playoffs in Mro Mass because I do think they might regress. That said, as long as Obie’s out there with Prous on the come up, um, good goalending, you know, they’re a solidly built team. They know how to win. I think they have a culture there, too. Um, that they can they can make a run at any time. Next, I have the Panthers. They would have been higher. Would have been higher, but I think right now having them at seventh is probably the right spot. It’s really hard to do a three repeat in any sport. We all know that statistically it’s almost impossible, very unlikely to happen. Um, Matthew Duch out till December. Barov now missing the whole year. I think they’re going to need Anton Lundelle to step up and be huge just to keep them in the thick of it till Christmas. Um, for Hey, he’s going to have to be awesome. Babski is still Babski, but he’s getting older, too. I I just think that this could be the year where, you know, they haven’t been an awesome regular season team. I think this could be the year when the wheels fall off the bus for them. Uh I still have them top eight, no doubt, but a little bit lower than some of these other squads. Next up, I think it’s this ABS team we’re watching. They’re really great. Are Wedgewood or injured Blackwood gonna be the Darcy Kemper, the Praint they’ve been looking for for the last couple years? Probably not, you know. Um, Wedgewood looks pretty good tonight. His stats were awesome after he got traded to them. Still, I see that as a flaw for them. Uh, Netis, Marty Ness came over from Carolina, who of course he got swapped out for Eers. Netas looks good on the right wing with McKinnon, but I don’t know. I I don’t really see this team as having improved or fixed the the mistakes that they couldn’t come over last year. Next up, I think it’s Dallas. No, Dallas really good. Uh I think it’s the Canes. So, I know we’re running out of Eastern Conference teams here. I think the Canes will probably have the best regular season record in the Eastern Conference. I think this improvement, this is a really good team who lost Ness and then replaced him with Eelers who is a better hockey player uh in my opinion and statistically right or left wing on a $6 million contract. It’s an incredible deal. It’s going to give Carolina wiggle room. Carolina also uh picked up Keandre Miller from New York. Uh they lost someone. Or Demetri Orlov I think left. I can’t remember if they lost another defender or not. This is a great team. Again, they’re going to be relying on Freddy Anderson to stay healthy. I think Freddy Anderson is a great keeper. There’s a real miss that the Leafs couldn’t win games. Couldn’t figure it out with Freddy Anderson. For me, that was a shame. They bombed that up. Among other things, the Leafs are bombed up. Okay, next up, I think it’s the Stars. The Stars are good. They’re cup contender. Having them fourth on my list here doesn’t I mean they could win the Stanley Cup. Any of these teams could win the Stanley Cup, but the Dallas Stars could legit win the Stanley Cup. They could go in with the President’s Trophy, absolutely on fire. Uh if Robertson plays well, if Ransin becomes their best player, which I think he is their best player. Um but if he proves it on the ice, I think that the the Stars could go into the playoffs as Stanley Cup favorites. um and then they could win. The flip side, I don’t know that Robertson is as dependable of a top scorer as some of the players on other teams. Um and Ratnan, you know, he was missing missing an action for a while after that trade. So, I know it’s not fun to be traded from two teams one year, but still. Okay, next up, I got the Bolts. The Bolts, remember, were, you know, they’re going in after as the best team on the ice and then they lose to Florida last year, right? I think the Bolts are the best team in the East, especially with the Barov injury. Um, I don’t even really think it’s that close. I think Coov’s the best hockey player in the East. Uh, we’re about to tip off in second period, but I’m going to finish this first. So I think Cutrov um and Vaselki just carry them again. They’re stacked. Hegel awesome. They’re an awesome team. So leaves the Oilers and the Knights. I got the Knights. The Knights obviously huge acquisition with Mitch Mner. Offense gets better, but they lose Alex Portangelo. Defense gets worse. They sign Aiden Hill to a long-term contract. I think the Knights are going to be right back in it playing deep, deep, deep in spring hockey. But like the Vegas oddsmakers, I got the Oilers as favorites. Even before the McDavid contract announcement, I had them as favorites. McDavid signs for less money, shorter term. Um, remember, it’s not charity case here. He’s still taking $12.5 million. There isn’t very much income tax in Alberta relative to the rest of Canada. And he’s going to sign a freaking mega deal in two years. So, and I think what he’ll do too is if he doesn’t win the next two years with the Oilers, this is dryidle kit, by the way. This is not a McDavid. This is a dry cidle assistant. Um, right. Two more years with Dry Cidle. Dry Cidle’s long-term. Jake Walman just resigns. I think the worst case scenario for the Leafs, now just talking as a Leafs fan, Jack, the worst case scenario, is that the Leafs get stuck playing the Bolts in round one. Um, not Florida, the Bolts. And I think if that happens again, whether the Leafs are two and the Bolts are three or vice versa, I think the Leafs might be out flaming out again. first round playoffs. You know, everyone in Toronto lighting the arena on fire, bitching about MLS, all that stuff. Um, yeah, I definitely see the Canes Canes are going to be right there. The Lightning going to be right there. I honestly think in a weird way that the I think the Senators could stun a lot of people in the East. The Senators to me are like my dark horse pick coming out of the East this year. Um, and then in the West, this Kings team, you know, maybe the Kings team bounces back and makes some action happened. I mean, absolutely shredded, don’t get me wrong, but just like sizewise, his build, like if you w you’d walk right by him in a mall or a restaurant or a street and just think, “Oh, yeah, that’s a tough looking small guy.” But like small, you know, like period, like in an objective way, a smaller man. Uh, but [ __ ] hell was he tough as hell and super fit. They can drink like no other athletes. That’s true. There’s a hockey drinking culture. Maybe it’s the Eastern European thing or the Canadian thing or just the cold weather thing. It’s funny even I was watching that NHL faceoff show the other day like from last year and they were showing pasta and uh Knander, right? William Knander and Pasta played hockey together in I don’t know Finland or Sweden or something when they were kids. And so it was showing them like having dinner in Toronto before Bruins Leafs game and they’re just like skull and beers which is I mean it’s great. I think it’s it’s cool. Why shouldn’t you drink a beer? I mean it’s not like there’s anything wrong with beer if you’re a pro alete. It’s not like these guys are alcoholics the way they used to be. There’s so many other games, so many leagues. they’re um they’re uh you know just kind of like obsessed with fitness and cardio and all this stuff now and like yeah well like even pro league pro league who was always winning the fitness test on the Calgary Flames right they have a little competition at the start of the year and he just dominated right he could do whatever a zillion squats a zillion press ups you know his uh what’s the blood oxygen test they do through the roof exceptional athlete, but like at his house like he’s always drinking beers, you know, like he he that’s what he did like on the weekend.
