Mahomes Monday Night Matchup Chiefs vs the Jaguars

We’ll talk about some of those, but really wanted to focus on playmakers for this ball game, but late this afternoon, Xavier Worthy has had an update. He has been moved due to a shoulder slash ankle, which doesn’t sound like it’s the same injury in any way, shape, or form. He’s now listed as questionable for Monday Night Football. Took me totally by surprise. I saw him on Rich Eisen on Friday. He looked absolutely fine. So, there must have been something new develop. I don’t know what to make of it off the top, especially with them being on totally different appendages. What’s your takeaway? Uh, Chief’s offense is in trouble if Worthy can’t play. So, uh, they absolutely need him to play, but the the issue is we don’t know high ankle sprain, low ankle sprain, uh, what type of issue it is with the ankle. We knew the shoulder injury, that’s not a surprise. Uh, but the ankle issue is definitely something to be concerned about, uh, headed into a game. I I’m seeing speculation. And I don’t have this from any of the sources that I truly trust, but I understand the travel portion is what kind of spurred some of this on some swelling in the lower body coming off of the plane. Okay, that does happen, especially given uh you know, the fact that you this was your first real action last week and and now you’re on a plane traveling, etc. We’re going to see. I don’t know that it rules him out. And they haven’t said that. Questionable does not mean doubtful. It means it’s a possibility, but not a strong um you know, over 50%. If they had gone right to doubtful, I would be more concerned. But I’m leaning towards especially the toughness this kid has showed just coming back from this injury initially. I’m guessing I still feel right now sitting here positive that he’ll play. You feel better about it than I do because I look at this and going they’re putting him on the injury report and generally speaking, when you get put on the injury report the day before the game, uh you’re probably not playing that game. Generally speaking, that’s not always the case. We’ll see if that ends up being uh something that happens. But the bigger question to me is what happened because I understand that maybe you get a little bit of swelling on the plane ride, but it sounds like the ankle was an issue before, which I didn’t even realize he had an ankle issue. So, a little interesting there. Yeah. And and we are seeing your chats, folks. Maybe we’ll have some time at the end for questions. Come back with us there. Um we don’t know what Worthy did. Um, we we just got this news within the last half an hour before we started this live stream. Um, and so much so I didn’t even change the title of this stream. So, uh, welcome in folks. We are talking about matchups. And the reason that we preempt everything else is because Xavier was one of our prime matchups. One of the playmakers that we had to see perform in this ball game without him. It falls very much to a guy that has been on a roll. If he if Xavier cannot go, it’s Taquon Storon’s job. They still have to stretch the field. They still have to make them pay over the top. This secondary’s been playing pretty good, but I feel they can still get got with speed. And I think that that’s the way that they have to go. And Taquon’s put up a touchdown in each of the last three games. Yep. Yeah. And I think Taekquin has shown that he can do more than what he did when he was a Patriot. And he’s obviously moving in the right direction for the Chiefs. The one thing that I will say that I feel better about this than I would have a couple of weeks ago is they have Jaylen Royals who should be able to play and that should help uh whether or not I mean I’m not expecting that it’s going to replace Worthy. Obviously you can’t do that but having him having another guy that can go out there and produce and I do think he can produce in this offense uh would would be helpful. Yeah. Uh, still the bigger question, sorry, but the bigger question is how much of the game plan did they have just for Xavier Worthy because they did that week one and he goes out in three plays and poof. Yeah. And and as much as I like what Taekquin’s done in stepping up and performing the the long ball and putting that pressure on the defense, all the other stuff, especially anything that is an option route is not Taekwon’s story. He cannot do that. There is no replacing Xavier unless Rashi walks back in the door and we know that’s not going to happen. So it does narrow your possibilities. So that means Travis has to step up. It means the running backs have to step up. I hope that it means that there’s enough in the game plan for Bashard Smith that you can lean on it a little bit more and give it more options, which I think is good for Bashard Smith in particular and getting those runs. Um so we’ll see what comes of it. We also have to pay attention to the fact that because we’re live on a Sunday, uh it’s not just a normal preview. We have more intel on the rest of the AFC West. And late breaking news just within the last few minutes is stop me if you’ve heard this before. The Chargers are getting hurt again. Marin Hampton in a walking boot. That significantly changes the outlook for the Chargers going down the stretch. For for all of you who are tired of hearing every media member in the world pick the Chargers every year, well, guess what? Every year they get hurt to the point that they can’t compete. It looks like it’s starting to happen to them yet again. Yeah. And they already lost Jo for a little bit. They already they already lost uh their starting left tackle uh and Rashan Slater for the entire season. And now you’re losing uh you lost another running back already uh Naji Harris. And now you’re losing Omarian Hampton. Uh there goes my fantasy league, but who cares? Uh and they’ve lost two in a row at this point. They were three and 0. Now they’re three and two. And Kansas City finds a way to win against the Jaguars. They are tied for first place. Uh technically tied for first place because they will have lost to the Chargers. Uh but the Denver Broncos are also three and two. They are. And the Broncos survived and beat an Eagles team. This team couldn’t beat. Um didn’t look pretty, but they did get it done. A lot of questionable calls. Yeah, a lot of questionable calls. Up and down performance from Bo. um really had Sutton and Sutton and Sutton and not a whole lot else. Um but that pass rush is real and they got after it a little bit as well. So that’s something to keep an eye on. But we have to maintain our focus on this ball game for Monday Night Football against the Jacksonville Jaguars. So what are those matchups with and without Xavier that the Chiefs must win? Well, Travis Kelce has won him against Deon Lloyd. We’re going to talk about that next. This episode is brought to you by Square. Your favorite neighborhood spots run on Square. See you in the neighborhood. This episode is brought to you by Mazda. Moving the game forward. And for those who believe it’s not just about playing the game, it’s about redefining it. There are moments that do more than put points on the board. They move crowds. They move culture. And they keep the game moving forward itself. Xavier Worthy is a prime example of that. A lot of people had the Chiefs down and out until miraculously they are reborn with Xavier Worthy back on the field. His impact cannot be understated. From the stretch plays to the end of rounds to on the ground, everything that allows Patrick Mahomes to be himself and to emphasize and put pressure on the opponent. That’s what Xavier did this week. When you follow what moves you, the unexpected is only the beginning. And just like there’s more to every highlight, there’s more to every Mazda vehicle. Mazda move and be moved. Well, I am moved. Maybe not to panic, but I can see it from here. Um, so we have to take a look at what the other matchups are. Um, I personally am am very fixated on what Devin Lloyd, who’s been the strength of their defense so far, has been able to do versus Travis Kelce, who is off to a slow start for him, uh, and maybe a few more mistakes than we normally see. I think this could end up being the marquee, especially if Xavier is not able to go. How do you see it? It definitely could be the marquee matchup. I Travis turned 36 today as we’re recording this. Uh it is his birthday and so I do think that he’s going to be a little bit more fired up for this game. Uh maybe more than normal and it’s going to be white on white in Jacksonville. So I’m going to be curious to see how that goes as well. But I do think that Kelsey is a huge matchup that if Worthy is not able to go, he has to win and he has to win on a regular basis. But the bigger question to me is is can you get the other tight ends involved and maybe take a little bit off of Travis’s plate because he needs a a few less snaps. Uh and you’re going to be getting a situation where you ever see Rice coming back in two weeks. Uh, and if Kelsey can just hold out for another couple weeks, I I do think that his presence on the field won’t be needed as much. Not saying he’s he doesn’t have to be on the field or we don’t or the Chiefs don’t need him, but when Rashi comes back, it changes the way that this offense is going to run again. And I do think that that’s important. So, um, going to be very curious about that. And if Worthy doesn’t play, this becomes an even bigger deal. My curiosity and my big matchup is going to be Josh Simmons against the Jacksonville Jaguars defensive line. I I is it going to be Tavon Walker? Maybe. Uh he had a a what a cast I I guess you would call it on his hand. I I don’t It looked like a club when I saw Right. He did have surgery this week as well. Yeah. And so I don’t know that he’ll play, but uh it’s possible that he’ll play. If he plays, that’s a big it’s going to be a big test for the Chiefs. and for Josh Simmons. And the reality is is that as soon as Patrick Mahomes has gotten to a point where he trusts his offensive line, if they can continue that going into the next couple of weeks, this is going to be a Patrick Mahomes that is going to continue getting more and more uh comfortable with what his line is doing and it’s going to look better and better every single week. Yeah, I agree with you and I think the actual reverse is just as much true. This team has to produce pass rush. it must have it. This is a team that has not been able to to really bring along their their star wide receiver in Brian Thomas as much as they need to. They have not been able to really make uh Trevor Lawrence look anything closer to the quote unquote generational talent he was coming out. Now, he’s had a raw deal in terms of coaching trees, but the the fact is if you can move him, you can put pressure on what he’s able to do, not just pressure on him. And I think that’s key. I hope that they don’t have to go to the the five and the sixman uh rushes. He’s not as good against zone. So, if you can just do a little zone fire where you can get every now and then a fifth uh pass rusher that is so that you’re not like in the normal spags like getting to cover zero, which I do think he has kind of a knack against. He’s comfortable with using his face because he understands the quick decision path and I think Trevor Lawrence is somebody that might be able to take advantage of that. So, I’m really looking for like the zonefire type concepts from Spags that I think this team’s very very capable of but hasn’t had to pull out so far this season. It’s going to be curious to see what Spags has in his bag of tricks for Trevor Lawrence because this is a matchup that you should feel based on the way that the Chiefs defense has been playing that they should be very good in this in this game. But the bigger question to me comes down to one of the biggest keys in this game is can Kansas City not turn the ball over? And it’s not a specific matchup, but the reality in my mind is that if you make it to where Trevor Lawrence has to go the length of the field versus just short fields, it’s going to change the game. So, I do think that that makes a big difference. And Jacksonville has got three turnovers in every single game so far this season. So, that’s going to be a big deal. Uh, if Kansas City can stay out of that, I think they’re going to be in good in a good position. Really, the bigger question when I start looking at this defense is, can Kansas City continue to stop the running game? Tien had a good week last week. Uh, he’s played okay, but can they continue to stop the run? I mean, they basically took the running game away from Baltimore, which is kind of funny considering Derrick Henry is is a Raven. But when you look at this game, it’s can you make this a one-dimensional game? Can you get this to a point where your defense has the ability to know it’s going to be a passing down and get after it? The other guy that’s on the injury report that is questionable is Omar Norman Lot and that could be a big loss if he’s not able to go in this one. Yeah, you’re absolutely right. And as much as I am fearful of at least we’re not the team in Baltimore cuz it has been a bad stretch losing big yet again today. This AFC picture is changing as we go forward. The Jags are in it right now as are the Colts who who did a good job today as well. I think that there’s a lot of question about just what you have to do. And that brings me back to Xavier and the must-win matchup is you must not forfeit Xavier for the season. So that is a matchup that Andy has to win now. The the decision-making matchup of whether you push him to play or not. So if there is any question, I think they have to leave him on the sideline. They have to ask Taekwon to stand up. They have to ask our guy Hollywood to stand up. Hollywood was, I think, shifting towards a, oh, he’s the other guy at this point in the offense until Rashi returns. Now he’s going to have to step that back up. He He I thought he got what? Thirdman looks even got some looks before him, at least in terms of like uh the route packages that were put on the field. That may have to shift and maybe you can do some of the things that Xavier generally would do with Hollywood and see what you can get. And I think that this is a huge deal for the Chiefs. If Xavier isn’t able to go or he’s on a snap count, maybe that’s the way that this goes is he’s on a snap count. And maybe the big thing that they used Worthy with and and one of the storylines coming out of last week’s game was he was worn out after that game. They ran him hard. So the question becomes is if you have him in there, can he be in there and not be the guy, the motion guy? Because that’s more running that he doesn’t necessarily have to do. So, can you shift that to somebody else and maybe kind of switch the positions a little bit? Brown is a guy that could step into Worthy’s role to an extent uh and be okay. So, I do think that that’s possible that they go that direction. And Hollywood Brown needs to step up and have another big game. He had a good game uh what was it week one where he had something like 12 or 13 receptions after starting off slowly. He needs to have another one of those games. And when you look at this game and you look at how this is going to play out, if you can limp along in this game and and find a way to win, you don’t have to worry. I mean, yeah, the Lions come next, but that’s going to be a tough matchup even if everybody’s healthy without Rasheed Rice. But you get Rasheed Rice back right after that game, and that completely changes what this offense is going to be able to do, and it changes what you need from some of the other players. Yeah, it changes everything. And this is a rolling situation, folks. If we have an update before kickoff, we’ll let you know as well. But we may be looking at a game time decision here. But anything can change the fortune. It could be X, it could be something else. X factors play that role for a reason. And there’s several of them. One of them, including a guy that I am coming around on, to put it that way, on Travis Hunter. That’s next. The NFL season is here and FanDuel has an offer you don’t want to miss. Right now, new customers can bet just five bucks and you’re in business. You can get $300 in bonus bets if you win. That’s right. Pick a bet, put down five bucks, and if it hits, you’ll unlock $300 in bonus bets to use across their app. It’s super simple. And if you know your first one, it helps you get on a roll without a doubt. It makes watching football even more exciting when you’ve got a little something riding on the action when you’re involved. It’s not just for the casual fandom. But if you love diving in to the stats, FanDuel makes that game day experience that much more. You got to get into it. So, what are you waiting for? Visit fanuel.com or download the FanDuel app today and get started. It’s at FanDuel. It is at FanDuel and it goes a long way. Go check them out if you want to get in the action. X factors. Travis Hunter has been a lot of of fanfare. Came out um ran a lot of routes early. They switched him back more to defense for a couple games. Then last week saw a lot of offensive snaps yet again. I think he only played nine snaps on defense last week. Now, this is a guy that can help you on both sides of the ball. Now, for the Jaguars, I think it’s an interesting dilemma of like, do you concentrate? Cuz I don’t I don’t think in game five of his NFL career that he’s able to do what he did in college and play both ways for a full game. There there’s just no way. I don’t see it. Yeah. And I don’t disagree with that. I I guess my question would be is how much does their game plan change if Xavier Worthy doesn’t play? Because to me, Travis Hunter is going to be a Xavier Worthy guy and going to be cover mean Xavier Worthy. So, does I’m not sure Travis is fast enough to handle that to tell you the truth. Well, he may not be, but I I don’t I I think that that they were probably going that direction anyway. Maybe. I I would not. I would protect him a little bit, but you’re absolutely right. If there’s no Xavier, what does that do to that game plan? I think on offense is the the place that you need to pay attention a little bit more because Brian Thomas can go off at any time. If you fall asleep, if we see lapses, especially when we’re talking about some of the the more intricate um high shells that Steve Spangle and Dave Mer are going to want to play, right? Um where you’re switching between uh single high or a cover two look to a single high with either a zone three or a six across it. like it there’s a lot of moving parts there and sometimes especially with this younger secondary some of those wires can get crossed up I think Thomas could have a couple of catches where he gets loose but if they’re able to man that it’s the underneath stuff that I think Hutter will be more involved in that than I really am to this point at first I was like ah you don’t need to put Trent McDuffy on him I don’t think it’s that much of a threat but the more I think about it without Xavier and if you’re trying to make sure that you’re locking things down maybe you don’t have as much of a lead maybe it is time to just be like you know what? We’re going to take him away with Trent McDuffy and I think McDuffy’s perfectly capable of that. Yeah, it’s going to be interesting. I You look at this and you look at this game plan. Uh Christian Fulton’s questionable again. Uh whether or not he’ll play is going to be something to watch. Uh the Chiefs defense hasn’t had their entire defense the entire season yet. And they’re still looking very good. So, they’ve got a good scheme. They’ve got a a great coach and they’ve got players that know what they’re doing. The question is is can you pressure uh Trevor Lawrence? Can you make him uncomfortable? Can you get him off his spot and make it to where he can’t do what he wants to do? And if you can do that, I think that this defense is going to be just fine. When I look at the X- factors of this game, it’s going to be a question to me. And and I you kind of mentioned this guy earlier. I think an X-factor could be Bashard Smith. And the reason I think that is because he got he they have said they need to get him more involved. He got more snaps last week than he’s gotten in the previous couple weeks. They got more touches. This could be another week where you’re sitting there going, “Okay, maybe especially if Xavier Worthy is out. Maybe this is a game where you have to go to Bashard Smith and say, “Look, you’re going to play a lot more than we expected you to and you’re going to be thrown into the fire.” And maybe it’s not just at the running back position because he played wide receiver in college. He he practiced some of the wide receiver stuff in training camp. He’s done that before. Can you use him in that role and can you use him to your advantage to kind of surprise the Jacksonville Jaguars in this game? Yeah, and I think that’s that’s a really nice matchup and and I am sure they have a package of things specifically to use him in that role. I worry that that’s something that Andy wants to hold on until later in the season, but we’ll see what happens. The guys that I would attack. Yeah. Hey, the guys that I would attack right now are Tyson Campbell uh and Jordan Lewis. U not necessarily Campbell gave up a lot of yards. Lewis did not. um what did was it 59 last week but the between the two of them they’re giving up respectively 50% and 78% completion percentage so that’s where I’m trying to go it’s not necessarily that I feel uh let’s see what did he do I think Travis Hunter is giving up about 50% as well but he hasn’t been targeted very much teams seem to be unhappy or afraid of him I hate to use that word for a grown man quarterback to be afraid of a rookie corner that’s that’s pretty extreme you’re not going to get that from Patrick Mahomes, so I ain’t worried about that. But you have to continue to push it. And I do think that the other two guys there uh in in Campbell um struggling a little bit and Lewis especially are two guys that they can target successfully. Well, and I’m curious if they try to attack Travis Hunter and and use double moves on him. Uh I mean, you could do lots of different things to try to confuse the rookie. And uh Andy Reid is a guy that absolutely likes to get in his bag of tricks at times. This is a game that maybe you decide you want to get in your bag of tricks and and I’m not saying it has to be trick plays specifically, right? It could be plays that we just haven’t seen so far yet this year. And I understand that he probably wants to keep some of those for later in the season and maybe for you know the Lions game or the, you know, the Bills here in a couple of weeks. But the reality is is that you’re in a situation where you can get to three and two. You can get to a winning record after starting horribly the first two weeks. That’s something to chase, especially considering you’re in a situation where you’re probably going to be an underdog against the Detroit Lions as it sits right now. And going to three and two with a possibility of going to three and three is way better than being two and three with a possibility of being two and four. You’re you’re absolutely correct. One last guy before we get to our predictions that I want to shout out because I do think he is a home run hitter. Bul Tutin, the running back for the the Jaguars. He has all the speed. He’s a guy that I wanted in here in place of Rashard Smith because I thought they could acquire him in this same type role. So that gives you an idea of what he’s capable of. He’s been living in practice all week, but he is undesated for the game currently. So that means you’re going to see him. And so the Chiefs have to be aware, especially at the linebacker level, of where he is and what he’s running so that they can jump all over it early. Now that said, do we do predictions with Xavier or without? I think we have to figure that he’s playing. Although I don’t really like the thought that I don’t really know that I feel like he’s playing, but I think that’s kind of the way I’m going to lead is that he is going to play. The one thing I will say X factor- wise, uh, the guy that needs to there are two guys that need to live in the backfield in Jacksonville, and that needs to be George Carloffus and Chris Jones. Their offensive line is very hurt in Jacksonville. They had all they had four def four different offensive tackles limited in practice the entire week plus their starting guard limited in practice. All of them look like they’re going to play except for maybe one who’s questionable. Uh you need to take advantage of that and you need to go after them and you need to make it very difficult for Trevor Lawrence and Travisian to get going. I think you’re up when it comes to predictions though. Okay, I’m going to call it as I see it. I’ll call Xavier Worthier plays, but he’s at like 75 80%. So, I do think he will get touches. I do think he’ll get targets, but I don’t think he’s able to hit his high gear. 75 to 80% of what he was last week or 75 to 80% total. I’ll go total. Okay. Okay. So that that’s that’s my mindset coming which tells me that hitting as you said all the motion and all the the jet sweeps. I think some of that comes off the table so you can preserve the the vertical routes in particular but also the ability for him to get into the digs to get into those inbreing routes that allow him to make more of a difference in in my opinion. So I think he can do some of it. I think especially with an ankle depending on which one this is uh he’s going to be limited in where he lines up as well. So, I do think that slows the the offense around down a little bit, but I’m hoping they can make for up for it in the run game. As you said, in the end, it’s it’s always a rough game against the the Jaguars for some reason, but I do feel that this team is the better team and they should be able to pull this out. It is a national stage, something that this roster is very comfortable in that maybe the Jacksonville Jaguars are not. I think it gives them a little bit of an edge and the Chiefs do end up winning 2723. I really hate all these one score games. Uh it’s hard for me to disagree with you on the score. It’s hard to disagree. I I think Kansas City is going to find a way to win this game mainly because their defense is so much better than their offense has played to this point and I do think that that’s a a huge advantage for them. The other thing is Jacksonville has won multiple games because they keep getting turnovers. And I’m not saying that they’re not forcing them, but I don’t think Kansas City is going to make that that issue. They may turn the ball over once, uh, but I don’t think that they’re going to turn the ball over three times. And I think Jacksonville’s offense needs those types of turnovers in short fields in order to be able to score the points to challenge Kansas City. So, I’m looking at this thinking Kansas City is going to win. I’m going to say 2417. Okay. Don’t even let them out of the 20s. I like that. That is my personal favorite to tell you the truth. 1. So much for the Chargers running away with division!! What they have done so far was not special. They beat KC with a depleted WR core by 6!!? Color me not impressed at all. They beat Raiders by 11 okay but it was more Geno giving game away. They beat Broncos by 3 at Chargers. Now facing competition they fold like a cheap suit.

  2. Getting tired of these guys that stay hurt man.. Travis Kelce been with us for almost 15 years and has had less missed games than a handful of guys on the chiefs who haven’t been playing for 5 years.. best ability is availability and we can’t seem to catch continuity in that department

  3. If the Chiefs coaching staff is So Good, they should be able to have a back up plan in case Worthy can't play. They have enough other weapons to scheme without Worthy.
The weather may affect the scoring but I see another Chiefs high scoring game. Keep the momentum rolling.

  4. I don't think people are upstanding why teams aren't targeting Hunter much. He has covered Chase and held him in check most of Chase's yards came against Campbell. He matched up with Nico Collins, moves Collins yards came against Campbell. He should have had a game sealing pass breakup that would have had the Jaguars undefeated if not for the b.s. pi. He is a much better corner than receiver thus far. A Honestly a lot of both btj and hunters receiver woes are due to the accuracy and decision making of the qb
