the NEW YORK RANGERS NEED to make these UPGRADES…

The New York Rangers have made a bunch of changes with their roster and of course coaching staff as well since the beginning of last regular season on the forward and defensive side of things as they really wanted to of course shake up this roster and take it in a different direction with the kind of core group of players of course by you know now having a guy like JT Miller as the captain of course instead of a guy like Jacob Trouba which we saw be the captain at the beginning of last regular season. But I still think even after all the changes to the defense core, all the changes to the forwards, and the massive changes of course with the coaching staff, I still think there are two areas of pretty big need that the Rangers are going to need to address if they really want to be able to compete for a cup and potentially go on a pretty good playoff run. So, we’re going to start off here with the first of two needs. And the first one I think is a pretty big one and that is probably adding in another offensive weapon. This team needs someone else offensively I think to really get things going. And I’m not saying it has to be some superstar player, but I do think, you know, adding in someone to the third line potentially. And it doesn’t just have to be via trade. It doesn’t have to be that direction. It could be someone from the minors like a maybe a Gabe Perau or a Brennan Hoffman or a Brett Barard. And you know, obviously those are young, inexperienced players, but I think this team needs a little more of something offensively, especially coming from that bottom six. And you know, the top six on paper at least, I I think looks pretty solid there with one of those lines being our Tammy Paneran, Vincent Troek, and Alexi Lafrener. Of course, they didn’t have a great kind of game one. They didn’t end up scoring. I am recording this a little bit before the Buffalo Sabres game, so we’ll see how that goes. But the point being, you know, this line should be pretty good there. Paneran is someone who you expect and kind of hope can be, you know, upwards of a 90 to 100 point kind of player. Then you’ve got a guy like Troch who in a full season you kind of hope can be at least a, you know, 60 70 point kind of guy bringing that good 2A game. Lafrenir, I’m kind of hoping for about 50 to 60 ideally this season there, especially if he does get some power play time. And you know the other top six forward line there being Will JT Miller, and Mika’s advantage that I think is pretty good. And I am kind of hoping could be a potentially pretty great forward line as well. You know, you got a guy like Will Kohley who I think maybe could also like Lafrener maybe be around that kind of 50 to 60 point mark potentially. Then you’ve got a guy like JT Miller who can definitely be that kind of 80 to 90 point player potentially. Guts Bandage who I think the way he’s looking he looked pretty decent there in game one. We’ll see how he kind of continues to play. But if he can be a little more aggressive there shooting the puck and actually start burying some stuff here, I don’t see why he can’t get upwards of, you know, 30 35 goals, maybe, you know, 70 80 points or something around there. I I don’t really think is that crazy for a guy like Advantage Ed. So this top six should be pretty good there. I think most of these guys should be definitely in the top six. All of them have the potential to be at least 50 point kind of players. Each and every one of them in that top six. A lot of them, I think, can do a whole lot more than that. So, if they can reach their kind of heights there offensively, that could be pretty good. I think the top six, if things get going at their peak, it should be, you know, a pretty great top six for the Rangers. It’s not going to be one of the absolute kind of top five, you know, top six forward units in the entire NHL. But it should be a a pretty decent one and definitely a good enough one to get this team to the playoffs. But that bottom six, I do have some worries about getting enough offense out of them. You need some offense out of your bottom six. And you don’t have to have your fourth line guy scoring like 40 points, but you do need some offense out of your bottom six there. And I do just have some kind of worries about, you know, how much guys like Sheeri and Radish are really going to bring offensively on that third line. I think Lava showed a decent amount there in game one. I think he’ll be pretty good going forward. But, you know, Shiri and Radish, I just don’t know exactly how much you’re going to get offensively. So, I do kind of wonder whether or not in a week or two or a month or two we do end up seeing, you know, one of those prospects there like an offman or Bard or a pro actually get the call up there. If one of them are, you know, really tearing things up down there in the AHL to start and they get off to a really good start there being like a point per game after, you know, like a dozen games. Maybe they get a call up there and end up taking a spot from, you know, a guy like Siri or Radish on that third line because this team is just going to need a little more offense. I think you know obviously guys like JT Miller and Paneran they missed a lot of the preseason in training camp. So I’m sure that definitely has kind of you know halted things a bit there and slowed things down with their kind of you know chemistry building there. You know guy like you know Will JT Miller’s advantage they didn’t really get that time together. So I think that’s definitely unfortunate and you know it may be a reason kind of why this offense maybe gets off to a bit of a slow start but I think if they can be clicking there the top six should be really good. Like I said, with that bottom six, I just don’t know if they’re going to be able to get enough offense out of them. So, I I think adding in a guy at some point there to the third line or maybe you chip down a guy like Sabanagad to the third line, put him alongside Laba and have a line of like, you know, Shiri, Laba, Sabanagad on the third line, and then you have like a Koulie, Miller, Perau second line, right? I think something like that could make a bit of sense as well to try and spread a little more of that offense out there. I think that could work a bit. So, there are a lot of options there. Maybe they go out there and look for a trade as well potentially. But I do think the Rangers have some prospects internally in the AHL that you know maybe could come up there especially guy Gab Prow and you know bring some of that offensive punch that I think this team desperately kind of needs a bit more of potentially. And the other massive need for this Rangers team that I think needs to be upgraded in at some point if they really, you know, want to be a contending team, want to be a good playoff team, they’re going to have to go out there and make an upgrade over Carson Susi, who is currently the second pairing left-handed defenseman. And I’m going to be honest, I don’t think Susi played that bad in game one, honestly. But I I also do think and understand that if this team wants to be really good and has the aspirations that I think they probably do and it seems like they do, they’re going to have to go out there and make an upgrade happen at some point. I did and kind of talked about of course in past videos over this offseason how I wanted to see a guy like Braden Schneider really get an opportunity on that second pair on the left side alongside Will Borggan there to kind of have a combo in the top four of Gabbert Foxy on the first pair and the second pair be Schneider playing on his offside there on the left and playing alongside Borggan who’s on the right there for the second pair and then he could have like a Susi and Morrow or Vakinan and Mororrow kind of third pair but the point being I wanted to do that. So, we could see a guy like Schneider in that kind of second pay role over someone like Susi. But, of course, the way things have kind of gone here, it is looking like, of course, that, you know, a guy like Mike Sullivan doesn’t really want to try that a whole lot. And maybe things change at some point there. But, it does seem like he’s looking to kind of keep Schneider on that right side, his normal side, which, you know, makes a lot of sense, but at the end of the day, it does seem like Schneider’s probably about ready to kind of maybe get an opportunity there in a second pairing role. And if he stuck there with Vak and Nan now, I don’t really think he’s going to get as much of an opportunity as I was hoping he was going to get because, you know, Schneider is still a very young and talented defenseman. So, I think there is another level or two in his game potentially that he could reach, but doing that alongside Vaky Ninan probably isn’t going to happen in a third pairing role. So I think that is one kind of big bummer about this move I guess is you know Schneider is still stuck in a third pairing role and the right side of this team defensively is pretty loaded there. I mean Fox is number one and then your two three punch is Borggan and Schneider. Either one of them could be on that second or third pair. I think they’re they’re really equal kind of players. So on the right side this team is looking great. The top pair left guy Gaverov. That’s phenomenal. But the second and third pair lefties I think is something a little kind of shaky. I don’t mind Baky Nan as a third pairing guy here and there. I think he’s a fine number six defenseman, but come playoff time, I ideally don’t really want to see Vaky Nan as a main stay in the lineup there. I think he’s more of a kind of number seven guy come playoff time. And Susie, you definitely would rather have on your third pair come playoff time. So that’s where I I really do kind of think this team maybe needs to add two defenseman or maybe it’s one. If you keep Susi, then maybe you just kind of slide down back in Number seven spot and then you add in that new guy on the second pair and you have Susi and Schneider as your kind of third pair. That could kind of work. But you know, you know, I do think this team just desperately is going to have to make an upgrade. It’s just an absolute must. They can’t go into, you know, the playoffs there if they make it somehow with Susi as that second pairing guy. It just can’t happen. So, I I think this is an absolute kind of must upgrade this spot. And also, like I said, adding in a new forward. Whether or not that is a guy like Gay Perau or an offer Bard trying to add a little more offense into the forward unit there, I think is a must. And I ideally that new defenseman that’s added in there, I think I personally would be targeting a guy who, you know, can move the puck quite well, but also is just kind of reliable defensively. And I know that’s not the easiest to find, but I think that’s the kind of guy this team’s looking for. I don’t think it has to be some kind of incredible superstar kind of shutdown guy. I think he needs to be, you know, pretty solid defensively and needs to be able to move the puck. I don’t think you can have a guy who is, you know, just kind of purely a shutdown guy. I think ideally you’re adding in a guy for that second pair on the left side who can move the puck a bit, you know, be a bit of a help offensively here and there, but also be that kind of, you know, defensive guy as well. So, I think we’re looking for a kind of true two-way defenseman for that second pair on the left side there. I think that’s the kind of ideal, you know, type of defenseman this team would acquire. So, we’ll have to wait and see. And, you know, as the weeks go on there, as the months go on and we get closer and closer to the deadline, I’m sure we’ll start to hear some rumors about, you know, which players are might potentially going to become available. And, you know, as of right now, I really don’t know. I can’t really think of one kind of great target to go after that is really available as of this moment. This team obviously isn’t looking for a righty as well. And, you know, that is kind of one of the problems. If you take a look at this upcoming free agent class and there aren’t any kind of like great left-handed defenseman that you know could be potential kind of rentals to pick up at the deadline. A lot of those top guys like you know Rasmus Anderson is a right-handed guy. So that’s where you know this team might be in a bit of a rough spot there. They might have a bit of a tough time trying to find that you know big upgrade there. But like I said I think if they really want to be able to make any kind of noise in the playoffs they’re absolutely going to have to make an upgrade over someone like a Carson Susi. But anyways, thank you all so much for watching today’s video. Do you think this team, you know, needs to make an upgrade there over Susi? you think they’re kind of fine with us on that second pair? Do you want to see them go up there and add in a a really solid kind of forward there to kind of add in some more offense? Would you rather see them just call up a guy like Perau or Bard or Oman? Let me know your thoughts on these two massive needs for the Rangers in the comment section down below. I’ll catch you next one and let’s go Rangers.

  1. No doubt that the 3rd line right now is not what the team needs. That line will eventually be the prospects line, with Berard, Othemann, and/or Perleau on the wings.

  2. Saddling Laba with Sheary & Raddysh is criminal. It's like putting a millstone around Laba's neck. And what does Sullivan do with Parsinnen & Brodzinski? Drury needs to get off his ass & move at least one of those guys instead of letting them rot in civvies. Laf has been the best forward on the ice through two games. His board work on the JT goal was what Rangers need more of. There are some really weak sticks out there to be sure. I'd still try to pry Byram out of the Sabres if a deal can be worked out.
Sullivan needs to change up that third line because there is no offence there.

  3. they're gonna be lucky to make the playoffs. They won't be playing the Sabres every game, that's for sure. Sullivan won't change anything; the core sucks and they only rely on Igor. If and when Igor breaks down, the team will fall apart.

  4. The good news: A W,2 points. A shut out. Major contributions from players who were – often deservedly – last season's fan unfavorites…. Laffy had a great game, Z playing well, Soucy had a goal.
The bad news: Too many quality shots allowed on Igor. Seems we were getting outhit and for a good part of the game, out hustled.
JT Miller looking better…but Trocheck injury.
Two games this weekend should tell us a lot.

  5. Cuylle Miller Zibanejad
    Panarin Trocheck Lafreniere
    Sheary Laba Perreault
    Edstrom Carrick Rempe
    Berard Parissinen

    Gavrikov Fox
    Schneider Borgen
    Soucy Morrow
    Vaakanainen

    Shesterkin
    Quick

  6. There going to have to be good defensively and cut down the amount of goals they give up because they don't have a higher scoring bottom six. They need to protect the area in front of the net and keep things to the outside like the good teams do. If Shesterkin can see the puck for the most part. They need to get a good forecheck going to help the defense and create some turnovers and some good scoring chances. They went with the veterans but Berard and Perarault could have potential given them some more offense on the third line. I would have signed Adam Gaudette as my third line center for 2 years 2 mil instead of Raddysh for the same amount. He would have rather signed with the Rangers than the Sharks for the same amount. He had a good year in Ottawa last year. They have plenty of wingers. Next year with the cap going up they need to get a good third line center who can provide the scoring they need and is a good passer to set up his wingers
