We need a deep threat for Maye

  1. Nyck Harbor next year.

I honestly have no idea if he’s actually good or if he’s just tall and fast as hell. But I love him in Madden haha

Edit: at the very least he can’t be drafted by the Chiefs

  2. Maybe Jayden Reed would be available from GreenBay? He’s a deep threat and wouldnt break the bank. They got a lot of bodies over there.

Kyle Williams is a possibility at the X position though Id like to see what I have there first.

  3. They’ve got 4 players on the team that run in the 4.4’s, or at least did for their combine/pro day. Henderson, Pop, Diggs, Kyle Williams. I think the next evolution of the offense is to incorporate more deep shots into the game (we saw flashes against Carolina), and I really think Kyle Williams can do it.

I’d like to see Henderson on more wheel routes too, from the slot maybe and not just from the backfield to the intermediate part of the field. I think there’s still some meat left on the bone in terms of pushing it deeper downfield, excited to see what Josh can scheme up.

  4. Rashid Shaheed please. Dude is going to want a new contract, why not get ahead of FA and make a move?

15.9 yards per reception in his career, that’s wild.

  5. Guys we just beat the Bills and are lookin good. Calm the fuck down and let McDaniels scheme up his shit. If it involves a deep threat they’ll make it work. If it doesn’t then as long as we’re winning games

  6. As Taylor Kyles mention in his film review of the bills game, Kyle Williams was in on a lot of the big plays, and was actually getting open deep and drawing coverage. I think it’s a matter of time before he’s getting more involved deep and hollins becomes more of a blocker / redzone threat

  7. Looking at the current QB field, it’s noticeable that there aren’t many great QBs right now. Mahomes and Allen are very good, but not on a Brady/Manning level. I’m thinking we have a good chance to start dominating the NFL again once we start operating with more discipline, which will happen in time.

  8. This is a flawed chart, I think. Teams that aim to push the ball down field will inherently take more chances, meaning they likely have lower EPAs per throw since the scheme or playcaliing is dictating the down field throws. That doesn’t mean these QBs or offenses are better or worse at throwing deep – just that they are more likely to take chances deep.

Conversely, Maye is really only pushing the ball down field when those routes are open/available, or when he’s off-platform, meaning he is taking less deep shots but they carry a higher success rate.

  9. Im so glad we drafted Will Campbell but man it’s too bad we couldn’t get Tet. Kid is absolutely balling in Carolina and honestly is probably being held back by bad QB play. He’d be OROY with Maye at QB

  10. It’s a mcdaniels offense it’s gonna be a lot of quick efficient passes and the deep ball only when it’s there. That’s what the dynasty was built except when Brady had moss.

  11. He’s getting most single high safety looks in the league right now but he’s played so well that’s about to change witch should open up the run game

  12. AVP was scheming up deep throws to Kayshon Boutte and Austin Hooper all last year, and Maye was hitting them consistently despite having the worst pass protection in the league. McDaniels needs to trust Maye’s deep ball accuracy. Right now he’ll only call deep plays if he can scheme the receivers wide open.

  13. Lets focus on getting the right guys up front to protect Maye and a strong running game.

  14. I think the error here is blaming personnel. It is the scheme’s fault. Before I get downvoted to oblivion for suggesting that I do say it is clear McDaniels is having a positive impact on Maye in several areas but the deep ball is absolutely not one of them. Mahomes’ deep threat until last week was Tyquan Thornton, who was on this team. Joe Flacco’s is Jerry Jeudy who is obviously worse than Stefon Diggs. Cam Ward is Cam Ward right now.

Perhaps personnel is dictating McDaniels’ decisions, but they had plenty of opportunities to fix it with any number of free agents. They chose Mack Hollins and to get rid of Bourne and Thornton. That was a schematic decision.

  15. Prime example of survivorship bias. A big part of why Drake has been so efficient deep is that they’re not going deep very often. An increase in deep throws will bring that efficiency down.

  16. Denzel Boston should be on our mind come draft day. 6’4 burner who’s used to catching lobs from a mobile QB outside the pocket

  17. Eh, this is how Josh McDaniels offense was with Brady as well. He forces the other team to respect short yardage plays and that eventually opens up an opportunity for a deep ball. Not a revolutionary concept or anything of course, but McDaniels is particularly good at playcalling those infrequent big passes into existence.

He pushes and pulls the defense, because Brady and Maye have the skill set capable of throwing anywhere effectively. Maye even has an advantage over Brady in that he can run and scramble. Very hard to defend when done well which is why offenses tend to have an advantage over defenses in the NFL.

Best counter is an effective pass rush, which is what used to beat Tom Brady during the dynasty years. Makes the tight end and RB need to block on a higher percentage of plays and that makes the job of the linebackers and defensive backs easier. Pass rushing is so strong in the NFL lol

  18. This has almost nothing to do with a “deep threat” and most to do with what system McDaniels runs. McDaniels history is he hammers teams with the short/medium stuff while sprinkling in deep plays.

  19. AJ brown is desperate to leave Philly and loves vrabel, said pre draft he wanted to be a patriot

  20. They are probably slowly building up to that as the season goes along i imagine. Gotta make sure the offensive line settles. Build your confidence in the short and mid range game. Make sure people respect your offensive game plan closer to the line of scrimmage. Then you can start launching shots down field more often. Multiple players on the roster can run.

I wonder how someone like tyquan Thornton would do on this more stable team now. After all, he’s doing pretty well with Kansas city now. Just needed a qb with the arm talent, a stable offensive line to keep plays alive, and a consistently good offensive game plan to execute what is needed. I imagine after the play of this season, if things keep going with their upward trajectory, the patriots might be a hotter commodity in the free agent market for weapons, and another wr1 caliber player should open up this offense even more, or if Kyle Williams can build more chemistry with maye because he’s been getting open on the film, just that maye didn’t look for him as a 1-2 option usually
