“A home run to right is gonna have to be crushed”

  1. yep. he absolutely smoked it.

    was a no doubter off the bat… huge, huge HR for us. set the tone for the entire game

  2. What i found encouraging also is that he hit the ball hard in every at bat. Didn’t seem lost at the plate like he had been.

  3. mlb/baseball-savant for some reason don’t have metrics on happer’s home run.

    but his next three AB’s were:

    * 3rd inning: 102mph ev
    * 5th inning: 97mph
    * 7th inning: 107 mph

  4. This plus the guy who summoned a Happ legacy at bat on the pre-game thread is what brought it all together.

  5. I’ve always loved Ian Happ, and his numbers are always solid… but it’s still been legitimately frustrating to watch him for stretches this year. That homer made all my “ugh, but he’ll break through eventually” moments worth it.

  6. Where we at today? Do we like Ian? Or is he the most embarrassing Cub ever?

    It’s hard to keep up around here!
