Here’s everything you missed from the NHL’s opening night…

The NHL has returned. So, here is everything you missed from opening night. First, the Florida Panthers lifted their new Stanley Cup banner to the Raptors. To be honest, the banner is a bit underwhelming, but they more than make up for it with these flashy Stanley Cup rings. After the ceremony, it was time for hockey. Conor Bard looked ready to go from puck drop. He rang a wicked wristster off the crossbar early in the game, nearly deaked Seth Jones out of his jock strap later in the game and dished a beauty of a pass that probably ends up being a goal if he had some better wingers. Yet, the young Blackhawk that shine the brightest was Frank Nazar, who not only scored the first goal of the NHL season, but also showed off some silky smooth skating before setting up Terrain for an easy goal. The Panthers ended up winning this game because of this highlight reel goal from Yesper Boquist. A goal that proved that you don’t need to watch the MLB playoffs to see some good batting. Next, we had the Penguins facing their former head coach Mike Sullivan, who is now the head coach of the New York Rangers. And so wanted to beat his former team so badly that he gave his Rangers a fiery pep talk. We talked about an identity and trying to build something here that we’re proud of, right? What does Rangers hockey look like? Well, Rangers hockey looks like Alexi Lafrrenier completely losing track of a 6’6 guy in front of the net. Rangers hockey also looks like getting shut out in your own barn to start the year. At least the Rangers looked good in those new Centennial jerseys. Speaking of jerseys, the Kings pulled off a really cool third jersey reveal. a reveal that they kept secret until game time, taking warm-ups in their usual threads before changing into these glittery blackout uniforms with chrome buckets on top. They also had these jerseys ready to be sold in the team store. It was also great to see Kopitar get a huge ovation from the crowd. He has already announced that this will be his final season, so this was the start of his farewell tour. Fans of the Kings also got introduced to a new fan favorite because after Josh Manson absolutely crunched Warren Fogle along the boards, a guy named Jeff Malot came to the rescue. And if you’re wondering where Jeff Malot learned this from, well, his brother Mike fights in the UFC. While the Kings won the scraps, the ABS won on the ice with Marty Nes potting two goals in this game. And if he keeps doing this, he will earn himself a boatload of money this summer. Meanwhile, Kale Mar continues to prove why he’s the best defenseman in the league by breaking ankles with this pump fake slap shot, then using his quick feet to drive to the net and earn himself an assist. Overall, I am so glad that hockey is back. And if you want to stay up tod date with the NHL this season, make sure you drop me a follow.

Hockey season is here, and I couldn’t be more excited for the 2025-26 NHL season! So, let’s talk about everything that went down on NIGHT ONE in the NHL. From cup banner celebrations, to shiny Chrome helmets, to surprise third jersey reveals, to rivalries and much much more!

  1. If the last decade of the Rangers has taught me anything, it's that Rangers hockey also means playing hockey like the biggest losers on the planet.
