Liam Coen Recaps Win Over Chiefs on Monday Night Football | Jacksonville Jaguars
All right, what do we got, Liam? Down 14 nothing. What did the team show you in terms of overcoming adversity? And where does this one hold a spot for you in terms of just its thrilling nature? Yeah, really. That’s the the theme I think and that was what we talked about as a team. Although we would like to make things very interesting and uh it it wasn’t perfect by any means, but the resiliency is really what I think uh this team has and has continued to show. There was really no flinch or blink when you’re down 14 nothing. I think early on we might have had a little bit of bright eyes and in a kind of big game that you know you can understand a little bit in some ways but got down early uh made an effort to come back. The guy stuck with it halftime. Uh Devin Lloyd shows up again with a huge play. Uh really took all three phases. I thought all three phases really impacted the game. Um, you know, a ton of stuff to correct, but the the toughness and resiliency is really something I’m proud of. What was going through your head on that last touchdown? Throw it away. No, I mean, cuz, you know, when he he got stepped on and um he’s coming out of it and you’re like, “Oh my gosh, throw it away so we could have another down.” Um, man, what an individual effort. I mean, obviously, uh, tough moment where I can only imagine where he was at in that moment, uh, on the ground, but to to get up, break what, three tackles or whatever it was, two tackles, and shed some dude off and go running in the I mean, there unbelievable individual effort. Yeah, we’d love it to be cleaner, uh, and just making a nice executive play, but at the end of the day, it’s about winning and, um, I’m I’m proud of the toughness that he showed at the end of that game. And just last one, you mentioned Devin. Just what has he meant to this defense over the last, you know, however many games? A playmaker. I mean, a guy that has just gotten better and better every day, and he is he’s put it on tape through training camp. He’s put it on tape throughout the season. Um, really proud of Devin as a competitor, as a leader. Um, he’s somebody that is walking around the facility, you know, with with a chin up and really confident right now for for a reason. Um he popped out. I mean that that was one of our zero blitzes that he was one of the guys that shows to get the O line to kind of squeeze and then he pops out to the passing strength over there and just had another unbelievable play and a critical moment for us. Really proud of Devin. Hey Liam, what did tonight show you about Trevor that maybe you didn’t know or weren’t sure about? Yeah, the the competi I mean I I’ve known the competitor in terms of uh being with him for a short time and then obviously going back to some of the games where he’s made comebacks and and have a lot of respect for that, but to see him tonight use his legs the way he did, take some shots while he was running, um make some make a critical throw to BT down the sideline to put us in a position. and made a huge throw to Deami on the left sideline to again put us inside I think the 10 yard line. So, um you know that’s a hu yeah yeah it’s a goofy finish but what a what a tough moment for him to be able to say like he just he wasn’t going to lose and that’s kind of really what it comes down to. He wasn’t going to lose and um he made a unbelievable individual effort that uh hopefully can continue to springboard us. Does a win like this over the Chiefs tell the rest of the league you guys are legit or is are you worried about putting too much on it? Yeah, that it’s a we we won today. Um, you know, tonight it’s a huge moment for our team, our organization. We have yet to play clean for 60 minutes. Uh, not that you always play 100% clean, but we did cut down on some of the penalties. We still had a few operational issues that frustrates you. Um, but I do think we did play a little cleaner at times tonight. Uh, wasn’t perfect as we’ll know. We got to go clean up a lot from the tape to go and be ready on a short week especially. So, I think this week will kind of show us a little bit more about where we’re at. But, um, huge win. Huge win for us, especially with the one-sore game thing, right? That team has historically won the majority of their one-score games. something that obviously was a struggle for for this team last year and uh proud of the guys. Hey, you mentioned the the wide eyes right out of the right out of the gate. Do you think that was just a little bit too much of thinking about the moment and maybe the opponent? These guys. No, they were just juiced like you should have heard our locker room pregame. I mean, it was mental. I didn’t really have to go in and say anything before the game. Foyer did that for me. Um they were very juiced. I think it was a little bit more to do with maybe over excitement, over uh enthused for the moment rather than looking around uh scared. I I don’t feel like it was that by any means. I think we were maybe just had a little bit too much juice going and you saw us miss more tackles than we had in weeks past. That speaks to guys just a little bit out of control. Hey Liam, two more on Trevor. The throw to Thomas, the old quarterback in you. How good how high level was that throw? That’s a high level throw. That was a double move. Um kind of an under pump to BT. We put him to the field that you know put the formation of the boundary motion across so you could kind of see the coverage. Gave us single high safety. Trevor did a great job holding the post middle with his eyes and then and laid a diamond there. I mean over the shoulder exactly where that ball needs to be. It’s him or any or nobody in that moment. Um really big moment for Trevor and for our offense. something. Obviously, we hadn’t shown the ability to be extremely explosive through the pass. Thus far, I did think we took some steps in some ways, but um you know, the throw to him, the throw to Deami, uh I didn’t think he was nothing but cool in that last drive. I’ll I’ll say that. Just a follow up to that, did you have to che you sort of have to pick him at up at all in that first half when he crosses the line of scrimmage and has a turnover? No, you know, look, it’s sometimes it goes your way. I mean, I think the sneak obviously that’s something that’s a learning moment for us because we had the kind of the tush push going and you don’t really want to go over the top when you got somebody pushing you there. Uh, that’s a good learning moment for us. Um, but I I didn’t ever really see a a worry in him. I think I actually saw a fiery competitor throughout the day, honestly, on the sidelines. I saw a guy that was kind of pissed off at times for uh some of the things that went down the way they went down. There was no blaming. There was no pointing the fingers. I just thought that he stepped up in a critical moment at the end of the game there. Coach, what does Monday night mean to you? And did you did you watch a lot of Monday Night Football growing up? And who are some of your favorite commentators over the years? Yeah, I remember the Brett Favre game specifically is one that always sticks in my mind. I think it was the one right after his father passed away. It was Monday Night Football where he throws that one on the sideline that somehow gets caught. And I mean, I grew up watching Monday Night Football, NFL obviously, my entire life. and um have been fortunate enough to coach on Monday night a few times but had not won in a while on Monday Night Football. So um you know last year we played um this same team in Tampa last year you know on on a prime time game didn’t come out with the win and so to have this moment personally is phenomenal but I’m really proud of this coaching staff and these players. Coach Brian obviously a big catch at the end drawing the penalty in the end zone coming back for the ball. I mean, what can you just say about him, his resiliency? Yeah, he was locked in all day. He made a couple of plays early and then we just didn’t really have a rhythm to keep getting those guys touches. I thought um a bunch of guys made a play though. If you look at that whole crew, I mean BT specifically making that play at the end of the game, drawing the penalty in the end zone, huge made a big one for us earlier. Travis Hunter makes plays. Parker Washington scores a touchdown. Dei makes a catch. So that whole group did make plays in this game to help us go win. Um now it’s about taking the next step as a receiving core and and a quarterback in the pass game in general to go take some confidence from this and keep building. Wrap it up here. Uh Liam, passing offense, Brent went down, but I guess season high 7 for9 to Hunter and to Thomas Jr. for 144 yards yet you’re down 14 nothing. You didn’t panic. 26 pass attempts, 25 rushing attempts. Just your overall thoughts on this offense. Yeah, try to like everything we do is to try to stay balanced. Now, sometimes the run, you know, versus the pass, it starts going in different directions for different reasons, but we did try to stay the course. They did a nice job stopping some of our mid zones and so we tried to get the ball on the perimeter a little bit. Um, you know, ended up getting over a hundred in the in the game rushing, which was which was a benefit. But we did need to keep running the football. Um, but you know, our O line has continued to protect at a high level. They’ve continued to be able to allow us to run the football when we need to. Trevor obviously helped us out big time with use using his leg. So, um, you know, I think although not perfect, you know, again, the the offense I I’m proud of the red zone and the third downs. We had the one red zone obviously over the top but we would have been four for four and then we were our best I think this year on third down which was something we we really wanted to emphasize going into this game. Thanks coach. Thanks God.

well shucks – it took the refs too – but at least you got it done – -best hope you don't see us in the post-season, I will GUARANTEE that KC win if we do.
Coach of the Year
I didn't watch the game last night – I just can't do all of the commercials nowadays – so when I asked Siri last night, in the middle of the night, who won the game – I was totally stunned when Siri said that the Jags won. I hope we get some different teams at the top this season, looks like it's heading in that direction. I watched it this morning on YouTube. Gratz to the Jags – what a game.
It’s the next morning and I’m emotional asf driving to work! Tony Boselli saved this franchise for identifying Liam as HiM, throwing out Baalke & together nailing it with Gladstone. This group will win a SB.
Great win for the team the organization and the City. Starting to feel like the Early years again. Like Tony said, when you come to Jacksonville you’re going to “” feel the Jags”. ! Love the new coaching staff and seeing guys like Lloyd and Trevor snd Armstead and others who the national press have been beating up on get to show the NFL who they really are! Cant wait to see if Richard Sherman will be man enough to admit he was wrong.
Great game guys really a must win , happy birthday Trevor. Sometimes I feel the Jaguars offense needs to run more outside sweeps or on the outside than right up the middle. I noticed running up the middle many times the defense and offensive lines had everything bunched up or cluttered. Great job Jaguars
The Jaguars after 5 weeks into the 2025 NFL season have already won the same number of games as they did all of the 2024 NFL season.
I am a steelers fan but good job Jacksonville!!!! Was rooting for you.
Pushing yourself up with the ball isn’t easy. I don’t know how Trevor pulled that off so quickly.
Bills fan. Happy for you guys. Mathematically it maybe made for sense to root against you guys but I’d rather see the chiefs lose. Coen and the gm seem like what jax have needed for a long time. There will be some highs and lows but that’s every team. Wanted b Thomas so bad for the bills. He’s a stud. Lawrence was too good to fail. It was coaching! Glad they stuck with him.
Proud to be a jags fan
This already looks like a fantastic hire only five games into the season. Makes you wonder where Trevor would have been in his development if he had a coach like Liam in his first year instead of suffering under Urban Meyer and football terrorist Press Taylor.
Thank you jags. America didn't give you a chance and you did it. ❤🎉😊
Jags finally have a lil' luck on their side. We are all too familiar with Trevor making that key mistake to cost us a game.Last night I thought,Oh crap, here we go again. KC rarely has made those type of mistakes so Thank You for that. Nice for a change to be on the winning end of these close games. Hopefully correct the mistakes & learn from this not to count on miracle plays. But We'll take it.Shades of 2017 ?Go Jags !
Does Coen just look more and more jacked every press conference?
Just staying in the Game. Congratulations job well done. Go Jags🏈🏈
This team keeps winning and they are all believing in eachother. We got something special and if we can get healthy we can keep getting these gritty wins
There was nothing special about these jags. The Chiefs defense gave the game away at the end. Mark my word, these jags will fall apart mid season and I will come back here and says told you so. Since when the team duval had won anything 😁😁😁😁😁
Jags are going to the Superbowl this year. 100% guaranteed
I know it’s waaaaaayyy too early to say this but give this man Coach of the Year! DUUUVALLL!!!!
Duvaaaaal
Proud of you Travis Hunter, Jackson State baby/ we had you 1st and planted that seed and it is still growing🍒
I like the guy as a coach but he needs to work on the delay of game penalties repeatedly as well as the inability to use timeouts when time is running out at the end of the second quarter and you have two timeouts you let half of the time run off of the clock when you should have called a timeout after the third down stop.
Man I’m a Vikings fan but fantasy got me so invested in the Jags I love seeing the progress for yall amazing roster and staff
the league is on notice! they WILL respect the Jags! proud of our guys 🙌🏾👏🏾
Jaguars haven’t won to teams like the 49ers and the Chiefs in like 15-20 years. Liam is making history
First time I’ve EVER seen Trevor play angry.
