Do you remember Giovanni Bernard? The former Tar Hills running back was selected in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. Bernard was actually selected using the pick that the Bengals got from the Raiders in exchange for their former quarterback Carson Palmer. Bernard made an immediate impact on his team following a 1,200 total yard campaign that helped the Bengals to an 11-5 record and landed him on the all rookie team. Following an injury in his sophomore year, he began to become relegated to a change of pace back after losing the starting role to Jeremy Hill in the beginning of his third year. Despite the more limited workload, Bernard produced his best rushing season in 2015, hitting a career-high 730 yards on the ground. Bernard’s dual threat ability as a rusher and receiver kept him with the Bengals until 2021 in which he would have a short stint with the Buccaneers before retiring in the offseason in 2022 following injuries and being limited to only 16 carries with the team.
