All right, we’re down here in Santa Clara on a Monday since the Niners played on Thursday. They squeeze in an extra practice today. Players will get tomorrow off and then they’ll be back out here for a regular work week. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday off, Sunday game day uh against the um Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So, and the Buccaneers look good. Um Baker Mayfield just completed 87% of his passes. a Mecca Eggbuka looks like the best rookie receiver we’ve seen in years and the Buccaneers despite a bunch of injuries are playing really good football and they’re going to be a tough test for the 49ers without a doubt. Now Niners hit the practice field today. We only got to see a brief amount of practice. I mean brief a very brief amount of practice. It’s hilarious. But Brock Py was not there. Um which is good. You don’t want I mean if Brock Bird is ever going to get better, he’s going to have to rest and that means don’t practice. Um and he shouldn’t be practicing for the next three or four weeks. Um get off the toe, lay in bed, do toe exercises, I don’t know, but just stay off of it. Um don’t practice, that’s for sure. So he was not at practice, which is a good sign. M. Jones and Adrien Martinez were both practicing. And I say it’s a good sign just because Brock needs the rest. Brock needs to rest that toe. He doesn’t need to practice. It’s not like he he can do everything except for game day. No, no. If he if you’re really resting it, then really rest it and don’t practice. So, he wasn’t there. Trent Williams wasn’t there. Jawan Jennings was there suited up. Um, he’s got the hip injury. I don’t know if he practiced. Ricky Pawol was out with the knee. CMC and D Winters. I didn’t see them either on a side field practicing. George KD is coming back from the hamstring. Uh Upton Stout who’s got an injury. I forget what it is. I think it’s a ankle. Um then you Alfred Collins with the knee, Ben Bart, and Jordan Watkins. They were all practicing on the side. In addition to that, uh, in addition to them, I should say, Robert Beal and Derek Canteen. So, the Niners had a whole bunch of guys practicing off to the side. Um, as they’re getting ready for Tampa, the NerS did officially open the practice window today for Malik Mustafa. So, they call him off the PUP list. Number six was back at practice today. Um, and I guess the big question at safety is going to be if Mustafa whenever Mustafa’s back, who sits, you know, is it Pino or is it is it um the rookie Seagull? I think long term Seagull is a perfect fit for Mustafa. Mustafa is a hitter. Seagull’s a cover guy. I think they’re a perfect tandem. Um, Pinoch is also really good in the box as a blitzer. So, I don’t know how they’re going to utilize all three of these guys, but I would imagine Pinoch is the guy whose time will be trimmed uh when Mustafa gets back, but I have no we haven’t asked anybody about that and it’s all speculation at this point. Um, somebody sent me a note today. Do the 49ers have a quarterback controversy? Well, they really don’t. They what they do is they have a quarterback surplus, which is a great place to be in, right? Um Brock’s the number one guy. Mack has said it. Um it’s Brock’s job. You know, Brock’s the Niners starting quarterback. Brock’s the guy who got the $265 million. Brock is their guy. M. Jones was brought here to back him up and he’s doing an amazing job. Now, could M become the guy over time? Sure. Um but we’re not there yet. And um you know it’s funny everybody everybody’s got to be on record with something dramatic happening to M. Jones. It’s amazing. I was listening to Adam Sher and he’s like the 49ers reprogrammed him but it’s absolutely job. And I’m like I don’t know that the ners reprogrammed M. Jones. I just think that when you have a system that works, when you have weapons around you that can play, you know, when you’re better supported, that’s going to help the quarterback. I think that’s really it. I don’t think he’s reprogrammed. I just think that he’s around a better team with a better offensive coach and a better game plan and better weapons. Even with the injuries, he’s surrounded by better guys, better talent, better better coaching talent, better player talent. But I don’t think there’s a real controversy because I think M. Jones knows that he’s the backup. Now, if M. Jones continues to play at some crazy pace, if uh at and and play amazing football, if Brock Py continues to be hurt, you know, quarterbacks have lost their job because of injury. Um, heck, Jimmy Garopppolo lost his grip on the job because of an injury. Uh, you could argue that Joe Montana lost his grip on a job because he was injured. So, don’t let anybody tell you that injuries can’t cost you your job. They absolutely can’t. But, I don’t think there’s a quarterback controversy here. I think it’s more than anything. It’s just the Niners have two quarterbacks that can process and two quarterbacks they can win with. Um, the Niners are in a good spot coming out of week five. They’re one of six teams that are 4- one. Niners, Detroit, Philly, Tampa, Buffalo, Indie. Those are your four in one football teams. And the Niners are also all alone in first place, sole possession of first place inside the NFC West. 3 and 0 inside the division. Uh they gained a game this weekend on all on both on the Rams, the Seahawks, and the Cardinals. So, it was a very, very good weekend for the 49ers without a doubt. Um, one of the big questions is, you know, can CMC keep up this pace? He’s on pace to wind up with 1316 receiving yards this season. To put that in perspective, Roger Craig’s best year was 85. He had 1,16 yards. This is 300 more yards than Roger Craig’s historic 85 season. The record holder is Dell Schoffner um who played with the Rams in the 50s. He had a,097 receiving yards as a running back. So that’s the record,097 and CMC’s on a 1316 pace. I mean that’s just unbelievable. Uh by the way CMC forced 12 missed tackles against against the Rams. seven on the run, run plays, five on receptions. Um, the ners defense as far as EPA per play with and without Nick Bosa is huge. Now, it’s one thing to win kind of a grimy game against the Rams, a division opponent on the road, but we’re going to find out this week if the Niners can really live without Nick Bosa. In weeks one and two with Bosa, the Ners were number three in the NFL EPA per play on defense. Weeks In weeks uh three, four, and five without Bosa, the Niners have fallen from number three to number 26. 26. So, there’s no question the 49ers are going to need some help. Um, probably another big thing to look for this week is Kalia Davis. It seems like he’s going to be out a couple games with an injury. Do the Niners promote Evan Anderson, who’s more of a run defender, or do they promote Sebastian Valdez, who’s more of a pass rusher to take Kalia Davis’s spot. I really wish my employer said "Take as much time as you need, stay off your feet, get a ton of rest, don't try and come back too soon, we'll be perfectly fine without you, don't worry, your the Man, your Job's not in jeopardy, just rest on that 256 Million dollars we just agreed to pay you". That wouldn't make me feel insecure in any way…

  8. Brock's job to lose…………Mac is proving he can run the offence effectively with no turnovers so far……..no matter what you say he's playing better than Purdy and can take Purdy's job………….Brock takes chances and those can be game ending……….

  9. I would love to see Mac Jones play completely healthy, with CMC, Kittle, Aiuyk, Pearsall, and Jennings. I think he'd have a very similar, maybe even better year, than Brock had, a couple years ago when he was an MVP candidate. I just think Brock has a size advantage, and a much stronger arm than Brock, where he can make those outside of the number, and back shoulder throws, that when Brock try to make, doesn't have quite enough zip on the ball, and allows defenders time, to get in front of, and either intercept, or break the pass up. Mac is just taller, and i think can see the field better, plus Mac isn't afraid to check the Ball down to CMC, and he makes that decision, a lot faster than Brock now, gets the ball out of his hands quickly, so CMC can catch the Ball, and has time and space, to get some yards down field, before getting tackled. Brock is always looking for a bigger play down field, and holds on to the Ball too long, by the time he finally decides to check it down, Brock is nearly getting sacked, and the Check Down option is already getting tackled or hit, right when the Ball get to his target, no YAC opportunity at all.

  10. I said 3 years ago they should have traded Bosa as I didn't' think he would make it through the year and here we are………..Should have traded him when he was worth something and gotten something to replace him with…………

  16. It kinda seems like us as a fan base are politely easing off of brock no offense but if Mack 10 keeps playing like this id rather see what he can do with this entire season

  20. I love how kruig is like purdy shouldn't play for 3 or 4 weeks. Like he knows how the toe is. Wait until mac craps the bed with his 5 yard a thro average. Oh Purdy should be back next week. Don't get me wrong, I want Brock to get healthy because I felt he was going to have a great year.

MAC10 is a good QB but anyone yapping about QB controversy is a Joke because it isn't like MAC is blowing teams out though he is doing well with lesser weapons at WR and TE but Brock would be doing the same and with better mobility and knowledge of KS offense. The 9ers are 4-1 is mostly a team result (better rookies and added vets) with better coaching on the D compared to last year.

  35. Mac will never be Qb1 in SF because Mac wants a $50M/yr contract. He can leave for Carolina next year and get paid. The 49ers put a ring on it. its over

  39. Pump the brake on the CMC recieving hype Krueger! At this point he’s more effective running routes and catching passes. And I highly doubt he’s going to be hitting 1000 yds rushing.
