REACTION: Sixers taking STEPS in Preseason Game vs Magic – Locked On Philadelphia 76ers

Keith Pompei, you were down there at the Exfinity Mobile Arena. Nailed it. There we go. Well, don’t say the other name. I know, right? You were So, you were you were there at the Core State Center. You were there at the Core State Center. Having yourself a great time. Um, Tyrese Maxi out of the gate was extremely strong. But there was just one thing that was bothering me about the first quarter of the game. Quinton Grimes wasn’t in it. Now, why wasn’t Quinton Grimes a part of this after playing last, you know, at the end of last year with the Sixers after being at practice this week, a week of of practice, you know, and then didn’t play in this preseason game. Why was that? What they said is he only competed well they only practiced twice this week and they don’t want to say the word ramp up anymore but it’s one of those things where they want him to get some more practice time underneath his uh belt so to speak before they they toss him out there. It would have been a great opportunity, but I also look at it, they’re probably looking at it like, okay, Edgecomb isn’t playing, you know, uh, M Maxi’s only going to play a quarter, you know, do we really want him out there for, you know, this long extended minutes? Now, it would have been great to just throw him out there for a couple minutes, let him get a couple shots up, but they felt as if that it’s better to just, you know, uh, air on the side of caution until his conditioning is 100%. You know, and then and then or or close to 100 before they get him out there. Uh, look, I don’t mean to come off as if not playing Quinton Grimes in preseason game number three is going to cost the Sixers an NBA title or anything like that, but I I I thought I always thought, Keith, how you get in shape is by playing. And you’ve played with some of these guys before. You could be on the same page as him. I know they’re doing some things differently this year, and Nick Nurse is trying to make some adjustments. I thought it would would have been great to see him out there. Now, you mentioned VJ Edge. Why didn’t he play last night? You remember he had the uh the the hip soreness from two days ago? Well, he had well he didn’t practice on Thursday because he had he was experienced hip soreness. But then on Yeah. Thursday, but then on Saturday you you Friday, excuse me, you go to shoot around and you see him with the blue jersey on which basically signifies the starters. And he’s out there. He’s hitting corner threes. He didn’t look bad at all. And you know, you ask, you say, “Hey, is uh is is Quinton there? I mean, excuse me, is VJ going to play?” And they’re like, “Uh, we don’t know yet.” And then around I mean, seriously, they didn’t know. I mean, the PR staff didn’t know. And then around I want to say 1:30, you know, they it’s like, “Oh, he’s uh VJ is not playing, Quinton’s not playing, you know, Embiid.” uh Cal Lowry, the whole nine. And another person who they didn’t mention was Eric Gordon. Like Eric Gordon was listed as active, but he didn’t play. So, um it it was uh it it wasn’t it wasn’t it it wasn’t a great game if you were a fan looking to see your you know, the stars of the team play because no one played outside of Maxi. Yeah. Okay. Perfect segue. Tyresese Maxi did play and Tyrese Maxi played 12 minutes, got 17 points in those 12 minutes. Shot 50% from the floor and 50% from beyond the arc. Three of six shooting from three point uh from the three-point line, including a deep three that he pulled up for for his first one in the game. The the only problem is with him playing the entire first quarter and him shooting as well as he did in that first quarter. The Sixers still lost that first quarter by two points. But other than that, what jumped out to you about Tyrese Max’s game in that first quarter? You know what? He looked like a dude who knew he was only going to play for the first quarter. I mean, that’s what it looked like. Like he was out there just I’m not going to say jacking because, you know, he he was taking it to the cup. He was doing a lot of different things, but he was like extremely aggressive and it was kind of sort of like I’mma get my money’s worth. You know what I mean? if I’m just going to play a quarter’s worth, I’m going to do everything that I possibly can to excel and to stand out within this quarter. So, to me, that’s what really stood out. I mean, you know, he made a couple shots, he did a couple things, but he honestly looked like the guy who was just trying to get the most of it. You know what I mean? It was and and you kind of It was weird because, you know, I’m looking at it and I’m saying to myself, I bet you this guy doesn’t come back. I bet you he doesn’t come back. Especially when, you know, uh, Kennedy Chandler came in at the start of the second quarter, it was kind of like, yeah, I I think Maxi’s done. I I think he’s definitely done for the rest of the game. But that’s what really stood out to me. But I’m I’m going just say this. The one thing that really stood there was three things that stood out to me about this game, right? Um, one of them, well, and we’ll talk about the second guy in in a second. We’re talking about Barlo’s Growth, but another guy who stood out to me is a Demona. You know, before I kept saying to you, like I don’t know if he’s a I don’t know if he’s like just a situational guy. He’s only six feet. He does things. You know, the more that I see him out there playing, especially against taller guys, you realize that his leaping ability takes up for his lack of height at that position. The one thing that he really has to correct, though, is these fouls. I mean, this is the third game that he had where he picked up two early fouls. And we’re talking about within the first two minutes. Like, he picked up a foul. I believe this one it was uh what was 1 minute and and 14 seconds where he got his second foul. Now he continued to play but but then they took him out and then he picks up his third foul with 7 minutes and 30 something seconds left in the in the second quarter. So you’re saying to yourself like dude you’re you’re you’re really aggressive. You’re blocking shots. you’re going to the rim, but you got to stop going after all these pump fakes. I mean, it’s ra it’s crazy. Like guy goes like this and he’s up in the air and then he’ll say, “I see the ball and then he’s swiping at the ball.” And it was even at one point like Maxi I asked Maxi after the game like what did you think about him? I didn’t say anything about the fouls. I said but you know um what did you think about um Bon’s game? And you know, he comes out and he says, you know, he says, “Oh, he played great.” You know, he played great. He just got to stop fouling, though. And you’re like, “Huh?” You know, you know, I mean, he says, you know, I think, he says, “I think he’s been playing really good. The only problem I have with Bona is stop fouling. Stop fouling, dude.” Like, I understand the ball is right there. He’s like, “The ball is right there in front of me.” So, I reach. No, don’t do that. But he’s been doing good. really well. So, like that’s all everyone talks about. Like he looks good and if he doesn’t keep if if he doesn’t stop that, that’s going to basically limit his his minutes. Like, you can’t defend depend on a guy who’s just coming out there hacking people. So, he just has to do that. Cut that down. But to me, outside of that, he looked really well. He played really well. Yeah, that was when we talked about this in summer league. I I I know that everyone was like, “Just let Hey, if you get 10 fouls, you you foul. I mean, what’s the big what’s the big deal?” And I’m like, “Well, he’s a younger player trying to learn how to play at the NBA level. I’d rather know that he’s moving his feet. He’s not reaching for the basketball. He’s relying on his athleticism, which is off the charts still for I know a guy that’s not a sevenfooter by any means, but still, he is a hell of an athlete. He can make up for those inches with his speed, his agility, and obviously his leaping ability. So when I was looking at him in summer league, I’m thinking nine fouls, that’s a lot. Then I’m hearing about these practices where they’re like punching each other in the face trying to get tougher and all that. I’m like that might not benefit a Demona of all people that’s learning to how to use his hands and get to the right spot on the floor and knowing when to get the hands out there. And like look look last night three blocks for instance as you mentioned three fouls in less than just the first half alone. So that’s something that I’d like to see him take growth in. I I’ve noticed something similar as well. Uh we talked about VJ Edgecom just kind of putting on that muscle and and looking stronger since summer league what he developed. Well, I think it’s clear still got to work on the fouls, but I think a Demona really put in the work and I know that he was playing over in Turkey, so maybe he was getting more of that competitive edge going and uh getting in some run over there. Obviously, I I I’ve seen, you know, some steps forward in terms of a Dem Bona’s progression to the point where, yeah, this guy could be the first guy off the bench when it comes to filling in for Joel Embiid. He could be the starter when Joel Embiid’s not available and really put Andre Drummond more so in that back seat in terms of this, you know, third center on this team. Mhm. That’s kind of the way that that’s kind of the way that I’ve seen it. Now, I know you want to talk about uh Don Barlo. I know I wanted to get in as well. Some other guys that have taken step steps forward for the 76ers. Talk about that and more when we return. This is Locked on 76ers. It’s good to be right. Dom Barlo jumped out there pretty nice last night. a near double double. 12 points, nine rebounds for him. Gets another start in the uh the starting five for this team. Again, what’s jumped out to you about Don Barlo’s progression, Keith? Yo, man, this guy has really Well, first of all, we talked about him after the first preseason game being a guy who fits extremely well, right, um with with the 76ers. But, you know, to me, when you look at Don Barlo, I mean, we’re talking about it. He had nine rebounds, a team high nine rebounds. He ended up with a game high six offensive boards. I mean, at least three of his baskets. Now, he shot four for 10 from the field, which, you know, 40% is is is okay, right? Um, but three of those baskets were put backs, you know what I mean? Now again, some people might look at it that he was he was a a minus 21 and 29 minutes, 30 minutes, 29 29 minutes 20 seconds, but at the same time, he was out there playing hard and he was doing a lot of things. And the Sixers got both rates if we’re going to be honest. They lost by 30. So come on now. Like I’m not, you know, he wasn’t the only eight points. Eight points in the fourth. They scored eight points in the fourth quarter. Eight points in the fourth quarter. Yeah, they got a score 34 to8 in the fourth quarter. But yeah, I Yeah. Yeah. But I’m looking at Don Barlo and he’s a guy that his game has involved a little bit and you know he he’s more of a allaround. He developed more of a all-around player. He can guard multiple positions. There was a time yesterday where they had him playing a five, right? Like you know interchangeable this and that. So, he’s able to do a lot of different things. Now, I’mma telling you this. In the beginning, I I came out and I said, you know, they got one standard contract left, right? And I kept saying, you got Jabari Walker. I kept thinking Jabari Walker was a guy who basically was going to be the favorite to get it. Nah, they got to give that to Don Barlo right now based on what he’s done. Like, you know, he’s outplayed Jabari. um he’s out there and I and I look at him, he is a great fit to play with these guys as we uh said before, but at the same time, he’s just bringing it, man. He’s bringing it. And uh I I I just feel like him being a two-way player, like that’s a waste of talent. like you can give him the standard deal and a guy like Kennedy Chandler say, “Hey, look, I mean, if you can, do you want to take this two-way?” Cuz Kennedy has been balling, but do you want to take this two-way? But Dom is a guy I feel like, you know, he can help him from offensive rebounding um standpoint and doing all the other things. And I get it. Jabari Walker is regarded as a better as a as a better um you know offensive player, but if you just want to base it off of what somebody has done for three preeason games, this dude definitely deserves to get that deal. He deserves it. And he’s also a guy that was thrown into the summer league mix late. You know, he just had a couple a couple of more days maybe with this team. Maybe it’s a he’s even further along. But one of the things I I it kind of jumped out to me last night. He Kelly Kelly Ubé is a like a like a three to two chameleon type guy. He can also play four in the modern NBA. Barlo is the guy that I see as a four that can be versatile and quick if you need him to go to the center position. Not that you want him to. Yeah. But down down towards the end of that, like the four and five, he can he he reminds me of Kelly Ubé in terms of his versatility for a guy that could be a four or five. Like that’s kind of how he reminds me that that’s that’s what he makes me think of for a guy that could be playing a little bit closer to the blocks. He’s got that kind of versatility. And I think he understands, yeah, this isn’t going to be like my team. So whatever they need, wherever Tyrese Maxi needs me to be, that’s where I’m going to be. If he if a shot goes up, I’m going to be by for a tip in or a follow-up. If uh if a shot goes up defensively, I’m going to be there to rip down that board. Like he just wants to be in the right place at the right time. And then as you said fit in extremely well with everybody else around him and I think he has if not if not yet for that for that role and what that role could be during the season. I think he is getting close closer and closer to being exactly what the team would need off the bench during the season. And I think that really shows hard work in the offseason. And I think it also shows a type of mental diversity where you can be whatever the team needs you to be, especially at that four or five spot. I mean, it’s crazy. I honestly think that cuz, you know, we don’t know what the 76ers are going to do. I mean, you know, where they are. You know, I don’t think Paul George I mean, I I highly doubt that Paul George is going to be able to to start on uh the 22nd. Now, again, after Thursday’s practice, you know, I was talking to Nick and asking him questions. I said, “Is Paul George, you know, definitely done for the preseason?” Oh, I wouldn’t say that. you know, you know, the whole nine, you know, he’s he’s he’s doing certain things, but the way Barlo has been playing as at this particular time, you know, if you know, you got to pencil him in as a starter, if in the in the beginning of the season, if nobody if like Embiid or or George doesn’t though, they don’t play. Now, even if MB Yeah. Barlo I think as the four even if even if I mean here’s my thing and and I don’t know what Brendan Ward’s gonna do, right? But what I’m what I’m saying is even if Paul George doesn’t play, I think that I would start Barlo. And and and and here’s the only reason why. if he’s an elite rebounder the way he’s been doing can if he can keep up that rebounding you know you already know that Maxi Edgecomb maybe even you know Grimes are going to go out there and they’re going to try to put put up buckets you know I mean even Embiid but you need someone who’s going to be able to crash the boards and get the rebounds right all that other stuff like what what Trendan Waford does is great but I’m talking about for starting the game, you need some rebound because you’re not going to rely on Tyrese Maxley to grab the boards. You’re not going to re rely on Quinton Grimes to do it and and and not and and Edgecom. So for for what I’m saying is like this guy has to be a legitimate candidate if Paul George and Embiid and and people like that don’t don’t come back by the start of the season to be out there and and and to start. I mean, he’s playing extremely well. I mean, you would have to say that, you know, Tyrese Maxi has been the best player, and we all know that he is the best player, but in regards to consistency and playing hard and stuff like that, Dominic Barlo is up there with the best of them through these three games. You know what I mean? He is like, you know, you might say, some people might say VJ Edgecomb in two games hasn’t shot the ball particularly well, but he has some highlights. You know, Adona, he’s played well in certain spurts. He’s plays well until he gets into foul trouble, right? But as far as consistency, um you you know, Barlo was up there. You know, he’s he’s up there. The other guy, Kennedy Chandler, has been playing well, too. But as far as starters, you have to say that Barlo has been that guy. I I agree. Uh it it I think that I think Watford’s injuries got to linger, but do you think I mean, I know that’s what you think. Do you think that that’s what Nick Nurse is considering as well that Barlo would be out there if you don’t have George, you don’t have Trendan Watford? Um, you you have Ubé as your starting three and then VJ and Maxi or VJ and Grimes. Oh, no, sorry, Maxi and Grimes as your one and two. Do you think that’s what Nick Nurse is considering right now that it would be Barlo and then potentially Embiid actually being ready for the season opener? It could be. I mean, yeah, I do. I do. I I do think that, but I I just think so. Here’s the deal. Yesterday after the game, you know, Nick Nurse was asked about Barlo asked like, “Hey, it’s rare that you have a two-way guy um getting these type of minutes, right?” And so Nick, so it was like, do you see him, can he be a guy in the beginning of the season that, you know, to start the beginning of the season as a two-way guy who can be in the rotation or can he be the guy at the four or something like that? So, so Nick Nerks came back and basically he confirmed that he believes that Barlo has a chance to be a solid contributor at the beginning of the season, right? He says for sure he does, at least rotationwise, for sure. I mean, I think we are starting that way. He said we’re starting way with him right now. He’s the best kind of at that position right now. He’s kind of the he kind of played that way most days. So I think for sure he’s going to keep playing like this, which I expect him to do. So to me, like, you know, we’re talking rotationwise, Nick Nurse is acting like he could be more than just a rotation play, right? So to me, like when I look at him, and again, nothing against the other guys that you have there, but I saw the way that he was attacking the basket off of missed shots and getting put backs. I mean, six offensive boards and he was doing a lot of damage like in the first half when the other team had their players playing, right? Orlando. It wasn’t against the Scrubby-Dubs, right? Now, here’s the one thing against when they got in the second half and they start like playing the end of the bench guys, you know, he got a little sloppy. They all got sloppy because he was doing a little bit too much, right? But at the same time, I just feel like his element, he can knock down a shot, he crashes the boards, he grabs rebound, he plays in his lane. Like, he knows that, look, dude, I’m not the man. This ain’t high school. I’m I’m not an elite passer, not this and that, but I’m an energy guy. And I feel like when uh that’s what you need, you know, as a starter. Now, again, you know what it reminds me of? And some people might think of this. It reminds me of the 76ers. And you know, I know we have a young a young audience, but when the 76ers won the championship in 1983, they they started a guy by the name of Mike Mark Ivaron, right? Hell yeah, they did. They the the Italian assassin, right? So they started Mark Ivoron. And the thing about it is, was Mark I did Mark Ivon deserve to be a starter? Like was he like the starter type guy? No. Bobby Jones did. Bobby Jones is a Hall of Famer. He was the six man of the year. He was a starter in the Allstar before that. Before like he Right. But what it was is they had Dr. J. They had Moses Malone and they had like Mo Cheeks and Andrew Tony. They were the other starters, right? Andrew Tony, Moses and Doc was gonna give you buckets. They needed a guy who was going to grab rebounds, set picks, do all the dirty things, and then all of a sudden you bring in Bobby Jones. Did Did Mark Ivoron close out games? No, Bobby Jones did. But when you get something started, a guy like Dominic Barlo can do that type of have a Mark Ivoron role and then you bring in the Trendan Waford, you bring in the other guys, you know, who when you start, you know, shuffling the lineup or or or like taking guys out, it it can help you. But I think initially you’re going to need somebody to do that, you know, to have the Mark Ivorron role. And I think that he can do it. My dad, this is going to be my dad’s favorite episode because I know I’ve told you before. He doesn’t like to say that I’m named after Mark Ivoron, but my name was inspired by Mark Ivoroni. So there you go. But any Mark Ivoroni references are are welcome by Joe Farzetta. I’ll tell you that right now. I bet you they loved him in South Philly, huh? Back in the days, but you know, as a kid, you don’t like, you know, you don’t think like that, but then you’re like, damn, this is the place. If you got a role playinging dude. Yeah. Yeah. I remember that. Yeah, that and obviously the population of South Philadelphia that that Yeah. Yeah. Uh when we come back, hey, we we I I these were my words, not yours, Keith, so I don’t want to put it out there that you said, but uh one player that the best thing I could say about him last night, he didn’t suck. We’ll talk about that when we return. This is Locked on 76ers on the Locked On Sixers YouTube channel. And right now, let me tell you about FanDuel. NFL season is here. I mean, it ain’t a brag, Keith, but we’ve been talking about it. Struggled in the summer league. Struggled in the first two games over in Abu Dhabi. And then, five assists in this game, two rebounds, a couple of turnovers, but two rebounds, five points. All right. Um, you know, if there’s what’s less than a baby step, I don’t know, a fetus step. I don’t know. It was uh it wasn’t terrible. That’s that’s the nicest thing I can say about Justin Edwards last night. Yeah. You know the pro I mean the thing that Justin Edwards has to do like I asked him yesterday after shoot around and I said do you do you try to play the same way regardless of who’s on the floor or do you look at it like differently like my role changes and he says his role stays the same right and you know Nick Nurse. I asked him, I said, “What role do you want Justin Edwards to have?” And he basically said, “We want him to, we know his shot isn’t falling, you know, we want him to uh to to defend, to rebound, to do all these other things, right? But me personally, I just feel like that Justin needs to play differently regardless. I mean, when different people are on the court, you know what I mean? Because Yeah, that makes sense. Yeah. Because the things that Justin, the things that Kelly Ubé are doing and the things that uh Don Barlo are doing, in my opinion, are the things that Justin should be doing right now. I get it. you know, yesterday, like you said, he he didn’t play as as bad as he normally does. I mean, but in the first half, I like here we go. I I I take the first half stats. I don’t really get into the second half stats in these preeason games, but in the first half, you know, he he had three points on one for four shooting. He had four assists, which led the team, right? Four assists. He had one turnover and he had a block. He was a plus six. He had three personal fouls, right? So, he played better. But the problem is even though he ended up with he had an an assist in the in the second half. So, even though he ended up with um let me make sure I get his points right. Even though he ended up with he had five points, but he shot two for eight. He had five assists. He had two steals, he had one block, he had three turnovers, but un and he did it in 25 minutes. It’s like he gets lost out there, you know, and there was times when, you know, he did have a block, he had a couple steals, but there was times where, you know, he was getting baked as well, you know. So, to me, it’s just a matter, and I get it. They have a lot of confidence in him. They they believe that he’s going to shoot the ball better, but I just feel like he needs to step up a little bit because if not, he ain’t going to be in the rotation. Like if they’re really trying to win, you know what I mean? Because you got a guy like Don Barlo who can step down. He can play different positions. You know, he’s only two inches taller than Justin. You got Kelly Ubé. You know, right about now, you got an overflow of guards. So, Kelly Ubé can play, he can start or he could come off the bench. You want to keep him engaged. And if these guys are playing better than and than than uh Justin Edwards, that could mean Justin is out of the rotation, man. Because Barlo’s a two-way guy who we I’m saying could be a Marco Iberroni type. So, you know, it it could spell doom for Justin Edwards. Yeah. Um, you’re either a star or you’re a role player. And if you’re a role player, you need and I’m talking about on on a team. You’re either the star of the team, a star on the team, or you’re a role player. Yeah. And if you’re a role player, you got to perfect that role and know that that’s going to change depending who’s on the court. So, that’s unfortunate to hear that that was Justin Edwards’s answer, especially when the head coach is saying, “Hey, yeah, I kind of need a little bit more versatility.” That’d be nice. Um, Keith, I like your answer, by the way, to Jerry in our comments here asking about Kyle Lowry as a coach. And your answer to that was what? Well, oh, my answer is like, you know, they call him coach Lowry, right? Basically, like my answer was, and I’m and I’m I’m paraphrasing right about now, is you know, it’s one of those things where they look at Kyle, in my opinion, as more of a coach, right? a a player type of coach thing. So, I don’t see Kyle playing a lot. And whenever you ask about Kyle, it’s one of those things where, oh, you talking about coach Lowry, talking about coach Low and everybody’s laughing, right? Because they know and but that’s what he does. He’s coaching him up. And he’s another guy who has yet to play in the preseason. And I asked the 76ers yesterday, I’m like, “Yo, what is it? Is he still dealing with elements from last year with this and that or is it just one of those things where is his 20th season, you know, he’s just not playing him and they’re like, “Yeah, well, you know, he’s been practicing, but we he’s not pra he’s not we’re not playing him right now.” So, so why the roster spot? That’s so confusing to me. I always thought like it’s all about economics in my opinion. Like if you look at all these teams, you know, Adonis Hland, and I think he’s the most um popular one when he was with the Miami Heat. Um you know, you get these guys, they’re older, they they don’t have it anymore, but at the same time, they’re great locker room guys. They’re very well respected. They won championships, the whole nine. So yeah, you can say, “Okay, I’m gonna make you at the end of the bench. I know I’m I can make you a a coach or whatever.” But when you look at it financially, making them a coach, you’re only for you’re only going to make about 300,000 or whatever it is. That’s rough. But as a player who sits at the end of the bench on a minimum contract, you’re going to make over 3 million. And and and what happens is the league will pay like 2 whatever and then the 76ers, no, excuse me, the 76ers will play 2 whatever and then the league will take up the other part. Right. So might be actually making 3.3 or 3.5 million, but on the books is only 26. So it’s really they’re looking at it like we really want this guy to help lead these young dudes. So we’re willing to give him two point such and such with a minimum and then the league will will take the rest. Now there are some people that’s going to say, “Yeah, but what about a young player?” Yeah. you know, you should have a young player to come in there and like and and uh and and and groom them. Like for instance, you know, uh some of the young guys that they got out right now like out there playing Chantler like Chandler, but but at the same Kennedy Chandler would be a great one, but I guess they look at it as if like we got a guy who’s going to be a great locker room guy for us. you know, he’s going to be a guy that’s going to help continue with the maturation process of Maxi, Jared McCain, VJ Edgecom. Kennedy Chandler is cool, but is he going to play? No. Is is he going to be a guy that can go up to Maxi and say, “Hey, bro, they’re playing you this way. This is what you need to do.” So, I feel like the teams feel like it’s a a really good investment. And if you look at it, look at Mark Markeis Morris. He did the same thing for the Dallas Mavericks. He did it with the Lakers last year after he was traded. So you’re getting these older guys who who have a worth of knowledge. And if you know, most of them have been on championship caliber teams. So that that’s what they’re doing with Kyle Lowry. Coach Lowry. Coach Coach Lowry. Coach Lowry. Uh that’s coach Keith Pompei. Um assistant coach Mark Farzetta. 1. My point is that I am trying to give you a scoop regarding Lowry. I now believe he will retire sooner than later this season.
Lowry gets 3.63 M take home, supplemented by NBA, but counts as 2.30 M against the Cap, Lux Tax and Apron.
Eric Pincus confirmed to me that if Lowry retired during the season, he would keep the 3.63 M and still be able to be paid as an Asst. Coach.

It would open up a roster spot. Someone like Quinones is still eligible for a 2-way, as he only has an Exhibit 10 with ORL. He looked really good and is a 6'5" SG.
If Lowry retires (to become a coach) Nurse wouldn't object to bringing back Jeff Dowtin as a PG he can trust, on a standard contract.

  2. Commissioner Adam Silver messed up the Heights, when he decided to use heights in bare feet, but not everyone follows that rule. Should be add 1" – 1.25" from bare feet and then round up.
Regarding Barlow, I looked up his Combine #s from a few years ago. He had a 7'3" wingspan which is 4.25" more than Walker and 5" more than Edwards.
Barlow was a full 2" taller than Walker and almost 3" taller than Edwards. I would call Barlow 6'10" (as I would Broome) and Walker at 6'8"'.

I studied the videos of Barlow from ATL and before, and knew he would be perfect next to Embiid (who should come off the bench to start season, but Joel would never agree).

  3. Regarding Broome, he really looks like he lost more than 10 lbs since Summer League.
He is definitely quicker, which means he can also jump a little higher.
Depending on who is healthy among Bigs, he ideally should spend a month in G-League, and put up like 7 threes per game and get used to the faster speed.

I fully believe that Morey drafted Broome as the longer term replacement for Yabu. Yabu and Edwards may have been overrated last season because of they were able to stand out among a weak roster. Morey had already decided at the time of the draft that he was going to pass on Yabu, since he couldn't use the full t-MLE and keep Grimes anyway.

Sixers fans may have written off Drummond, but I believe he's now 3-4 for corner 3s, and is still proving to be in another league over Bona in terms of rebounding. Still hope Andre can lose even more weight.

But do to precious Cap and Luxury Tax management, if Drummond (5 M) and Gordon (2.3 M) are sold off (with help of 8 tradeable 2nd rd pics), then Broom would replace most of the Drummond minutes.

  4. WIN…By Any Means…. that is the culture needed for Nick Nurse and team every game every player… regardless…just WIN…. It's contagious.

  5. Regarding Grimes, it has to be acknowledged there is politics involved, including why he wasn't allowed to play vs. ORL, despite being in great shape and being a teammate last season, and having 2 practices. If there was no concern for injury, he should have played. But I fully believe that didn't want Grimes to rob the spotlight. Nurse would have had no option but to start Grimes at the beginning of the season.

There is a VJ Fanboy contingency that aims to discredit Grimes. They don't expect the Sixers to contend and wouldn't mind if both PG and Joel were traded for a bag of chips.

At the same time even the management is trying to promote VJ (if used his real name of Valdez Jr., would be less popular, LOL) as the future, and there is a push to have VJ start, even though everyone really knows that Grimes is better (and will be better for 1-2 years).
With McCain out until around mid-December (leave that for another time) there doesn't need to be keep Grimes down, as both Grimes and VJ will get lots of playing time for the first 2 months. It is not good to start VJ over Grimes, knowing that Grimes is better.

And there are still lies being spread (may be coming from Morey) that
    1. Sixers want to see Grimes prove himself before giving him a contract worth more than than 9 M.
    2. The 2 sides for so far apart that there was no point for Morey to even try to negotiate.

If Grimes knew that Morey was never going to negotiate in good faith, his agent could have pressed other teams on June 30, that he would have accepted the full NT-MLE (60.6 M over 4 yrs, starting at 14.1 M). He would have asked for a Player Option in year 4. In that case if he signed an offer sheet elsewhere, I bet Morey would have had to match or lose Grimes for nothing. Even the VJ Fanboys would have admitted it was fair price.
Sixers would have been about 7.8 M under the 2nd Apron. Instead, the Sixers are now more than 12.9 M under the 2nd Apron and 1.1 M under the 1st Apron and 7 M above the Lux Tax Threshold.
Morey put himself in position to trade off some combination of Oubre, Drummond and Gordon, and take back 7 M less, to duck under the Luxury Tax Threshold at the trade deadline, for the 4th year in a row.

It was always about saving Luxury Taxes for Ownership. They have only paid Lux Tax twice during their regime, according to Derek Bodner.

  6. How tf is Sallis still on this roster?? He is god awful. There has to be someone out there better than this bum. My goodness. Edwards is just as deplorable. Cut bait with these stiffs.

  7. Your show is sooooo full of shit. The 76ers took steps?? WHAT STEPS?? STEPS ON HOW TO GET BUTCHERED??? They are 0-3 and got SLAUGHTERED again last night- it wasn't even a close game. The 76ers have SHOWN NOTHING in 2025, except that they totally SUCK. They are a HORRIBLE org and a HORRIBLE team. Happy Halloween mther fckrs, because the 76ers are SCARY HORRIBLE.

  8. So far not impressed with hype over Justin Edwards…..his college play making has not translated beyond G-league level… spot light now on with chance to prove himself.
