NHL Highlights | Capitals vs. Islanders – October 11, 2025
JG Pio will do the honors for the New York Islanders and we’re underway here in the fifth home opener at UBS Arena at Belmont Park. Bren scoring Thomas Hickey thrilled to be with you here. Picked up by Romanov. Emil Heinman couldn’t handle that one. Carlson back and wide. Baravari down the wall. Ovetkin out near the blue line. Arister blocked down and they score. Ramanov blocked the weak shot from Ovkin and it popped right onto the stick of Martin Farravari. That’s a good reason to go to the net, isn’t it, Thomas coming out of the corner quick enough. And we’ll take a little look at at the bottom of the screen. Yeah, it’s Farravari, right? And he’s a defenseman. So, this is where things go. All right. Defenseman comes down the wall, right? And then just a seemingly harmless shot, but the block right there and Farravari tracking back to the point just picks that one up. a little bit of luck because structurally that that’s how you draw up that sequence of a Dman down the wall. But it’s Sikas for Ciplicom of the Islanders with speed into the zone. Ciplo cuts it back, slides a pass onto the stick of D’Angelo. Rristster blocker down by Thompson. Spencer Carbury was definitely not excited about his team’s performance on Wednesday either for the Washington Capitals. Thought it looked like the first game of the season kind of sloppy guys fighting the puck all night. Communication there with Duclair. Corv got it. Pullock shot it off a pad around in front of the net. A backhand from Duclair. Never made it on goal. Pock able to weave his way around Stro. Hendricks Lafierre after it. D’Angelo put him up against the glass. But it’s Bilier following up. Following up his own shot again and Sroen an athletic play to track that puck to his left. Semiinal that year. That crowd was going crazy. That was a special night as the shot from Dubois is swallowed up by Sroken. Doubt bumped by Pacio. Farravari looking for his second and it’s off the chest protector of Sroen. That’s why he got a shot through. He’s comfortable on that side. Couple of good opportunities already. He started that rush that Horvat put it off the left skate of Thompson. Wayne Gretzky’s alltime goalc scoring record at 895 goals. He’s now at 897, looking for his first one this season. Looking to become the first player ever to 900 goals if he can find a hat-tick tonight or three more somewhere along the way. There’s a turnover that leads to a clean shot for Alexi Pro and a two nothing Capitals lead. He had enough time to be able to get his head up, take a little look. So there, the Islanders are just going to turn it over and Pro look at nobody knows where that he’s behind. Look at that. Beautiful. But watch the snap right over the right shoulder. I mean, that’s a goal scorer for me. And I watch right here up at the top. Adam Helix looking to join. You can’t do that until you have full possession. And that’s Jacob Chiff who had a phenomenal season last year. Good offensively. Watch him keep this thing in as Holstrom tries to get it out. And I don’t know if the pass was intended more than period. Now a two nothing lead after the first of the year for Alexi Prous who scored 30 last season. His chip shot tipped by Ovetch given save by Sroken. One of the more impressive things though about the season from Proise, two years ago, he had six goals, jumped from six to 30. In fact, you go back the last couple of seasons in the NHL, he had 13 total goals in his first 169 games in the NHL and then erupted for 30 last year. So, you’d have to wonder what did he do different, Brendan? What changed that allowed him to become this type of player? Bilier to the front and Sroken comes up with a big stop on Ryan Leonard. Otherwise, it’s three nothing. Czech always aggressive. Pinches in. Keeps the play alive. Ovkin’s pass. Strom couldn’t handle it. Look out here. It’s Shavonghov. He’s got Holstrom with him. Ovkin back. Shave it off. Holstrom fired wide. Their first two opportunities to kill to start the season in Pittsburgh on Thursday. Then they killed three straight to finish it off. Although one was the final 14 seconds of the game after the Duclair cross check. Good tenacity. Unleash and spend some time in the zone and maybe tilt things. And I I think that’s sort of got to be the message for this group Milan that best is yet to come from the Florida Panthers organization. There he is sort of driving, dropping it off. Schaer got a piece but not the whole thing. And a good opportunity there for Nick D. Stopped by Siroken. Anders Lee coming down the wall. Tom Wilson was there. Lee got the puck free. Now it’s Barcel. Sharp angle. Another opportunity and Thompson stopped the bolt. Sandee for Chick low for Leonard. Leonard delays. Got it to the front of that. Serken holds his ground. Puck squirts away and winds up in the corner. Out of the box comes Paul Mary. Leonard with a wister and he scores. Seconds after a heartfelt kill for the Islanders. The puck winds up in the back of the net off the stick of the rookie Ryan Leonard. Make some sense. I mean that was tough one for the Islanders as Holstrom was hobbled and oh that’s a lucky break there that just deflects right on moved into a hole didn’t stand where he was said okay let me go into the hole I got a better chance to get the puck D’Angelo lost it is in and he scores Alexi Prous races after that puck beats Sroen his second tonight has made it 4 nothing Capitals a stick and this one I don’t think he waited for this thing to settle down too we’ll see what happens once he gets it on his stick, but that’s a rolling puck and that’s really difficult. Just a little flick shot there and but it’s going hard too. I mean, again, Sroen up and over his shoulders and just just no chance. It’s just like you said, it just seems like very little motion. Knows where he wants to go. I mean, he’s going all the way. He’s going his ability to score goals. Of course, his skating is pretty good, too. Right. Here’s Duclair on a bouncing puck. Cut in and bounced away from him. Thompson down, but the puck underneath him as it continues to bobble. I think at the very end almost gets more help and much like protest you get a bouncing puck like this but it’s going wide and Carlson sort of puts it right back into Thompson everyone gathers around butch right now you need something you need a spark you can’t go you can but you don’t want to go into this second intermission down four goals on home ice need to find something he snuffed it out now John Carlson left side proise return to Carlson and a long stretch of the left leg from Sroen stopped it the block hands off for Barzel Ball stripped by Wilson. He’s got Proous with him. Proous settles it down. Has Wilson couldn’t get it there. Pinball around. Suck it in the split. Somehow able to keep it from crossing the line. This this could start it for the first power play of the night. Their fourth power play of the season. And they play it well off the draw. And Duclair shoots and scores. Just how you draw it up in practice. It’s a power play goal for Anthony Duclair. Give it here, but starts with a good faceoff win for the Islanders. And then this is well set up back and forth. Watch that. Look at Yep. Thank you. And there’s a great shot. This thing’s been a hot potato all night on three of the goals that we’ve seen. And and this one, you see the Islanders, they they really did this well against Pittsburgh. You look for Horvette. But Horvette, if he feels that pressure, he knows where his out is. He understands that there’s no one else in a white jersey on that side, and he knows Anthony Duclair’s going to be there. Checker says that one’s B. See how much Chaper’s got left cuz he was working pretty hard on the for check. He’s going for a change. Only eight to go in the period though. Mayfield going to get caught in a threeonone stroll. Time winding down. Sroen, he made the save on Ponus. My goodness. Instead, Sroen magnificent. Yeah, that was just a bad change for the Islanders all the way around for defense and I don’t know. Did Siroken make the save or? Does Scotty get a stick on it? Yeah, it might have got his blade on it. He’s still He’s still got a good piece of it. Did Siroken? I I think he got a bit of both. But yeah, you’re right. That thing’s going in the net. And but for me, I mean, was that last goal enough out for the start of the third period with Schaefer and Mayfield. See if the Islanders can take back control of this hockey game. They need three. Durant suspended for tonight’s game. Barzel will switch places with Schaefer. Matthew Schaefer back door to Clar alone. He made the pass. Paul Mary shot was stopped by Thompson. Still looking. They score. It’s Schaefer. The first pick has his first goal. Well, the referee calls this a goal. He’s pointing at it. Puck was never I mean it was a pile up in front of the net. So they they may review this and see if there was goender interference. his willingness to just go find it whether it’s jumping into the play and watch this. He comes in superman from the point everyone’s looking for. Where’s the puck? How’s this for a first and goal? Whole scorers went like this. Unbelievable. And let’s as they huddle here. I mean, what a shame it would be. The thing’s loose. There’s zero question about that. Look at the referee. I mean, he’s standing there the whole time watching it. He knows it’s loose. Schaefer to Marzelle. A little too much mustard on that one. Schaefer downhill. The pass to Horvat and a save from Logan Thompson. Ecstatic about this. How about Matthew Schaefer? Okay, give the puck back to me cuz I’m going to come to different ice. That frees up Horvat. I mean, I know he’s a confident kid. Pal Mary taking the draw and left the far side of the ice. Caught it to Shaboff. Shabinoff, Barcel, and Palmer here. Oh, off the mask as Barcel had a chance at it from an off angle. Did the Angelos try. Pacio to the front. A backhand clearing attempt. It’s Stro with two and then one. They’ll take the shot. The horn will sound before it gets there. It’s a 42 final. [Music]
Aliaksei Protas recorded two goals and an assist while Jakob Chychrun chipped in with two helpers of his own as the Washington Capitals secured a 4-2 win over the New York Islanders. Matthew Schaefer picked up his first career NHL goal in the loss.

First! Good win Caps!
🦅🔥
Хорошая игра
Протас молориг.
Patrick Roy should not be coaching an nhl franchise, legendary goalie, but he was a goalie, what does he know about playing as a defensemen or a forward? Seriously.
Protas gonna win maurice richard
Protas is like heavy tank with forced engine. That was impressive speed, that defensman was looking like still image 😀
Protas could’ve had 4 goals in this game
