NHL Highlights | Devils vs. Lightning – October 11, 2025

Good evening everybody. Dave Randar with you. Brian Angmos between the benches tonight. Gaddy Shirley’s with us as well. The faceoff is sponsored by Rooms to Go. Lightning will start the line of Cerelli. So the Lightning have not had a shot on goal for over six minutes here. And they’re not going to get one on this chance. Here’s a pass up ahead of Grip. He’s in. Shot saved and the rebound goes cleared away. Kimo Myers up there as well. comes free for Cerilli and he’ll just chip this one out. Picked up again by Teim O Meer. That was Heir. Heir with a drive gets in. Big save by Basilki. Rebound tapped in. Nico Heir danced in and ended up getting the rebound and the Devils open the scoring. Obviously, their coaching staff wanted them to get more efficient and be on the attack. Well, this even though this rush is stopped just for a second, they just keep pushing and pushing. And speaking of pushing, look at Vaseli. Bassie is not happy. He ends up facing sideways. Look what happens to Vaselki’s world here. Makes that key save, but then gets tweaked around. You can’t blame him. Nico Heir stayed in there. And did he do it a little on purpose? You see the marker 35 years of age up ahead now. Grit down the left side. Puts it in front. Tipped in by Connor Brown and the Devils have jumped out to a twon lead. Yeah, Basilleski’s under siege here. The Lightning got to regain themselves and quickly. Nobody’s on top of them. There’s only two guys with black jerseys in the picture. See, down that left side. Pritsuk has lots of time and room. The Lightning D have to back off the line in order to protect the middle because they’re not getting enough support. And then Lillberg’s trying to get there to Brown, but all of this happened because the Lightning didn’t get their structure going in the neutral zone. And New Jersey has pedal to the middle and their attack and execution here, especially at the net. Unstoppable for that. Neutral zone’s been a real issue for the Lightning here. Cannot get going with any kind of rhythm or puck puck possession. center in front and it’s in a wraparound attempt. It goes off a skate I believe and in behind Baselki and this is going to be a goal for Heir. They turn the puck over in behind the net. Heir’s going to get to it first. They just have so much drive to their game here. A redirection behind the net. Cooerov is with him, but it’s a good bounce and heir’s going to take advantage of it. He’s got inside position coming around. He just hooks it. Goes off of Bassy’s stick. I think it hits Croer in the leg. So, it’s a double deflection. There’s Vaselki stopping it, but unfortunately goes off his own man and into the Devils here. Final minute of the period sponsored by Edachar and Lavine. There’s another drive saved by Baselki. He jumps on that loose potter. He tries to make a pass and it doesn’t get out of the zone. See the Lightning thought they were going to get out. It even caught Lillberg up top of the circle. Luke Hughes battling for it. He’s bumped off the puck there by Yanni Gorn. Here’s a chance shortanded in. Saved by Marstrom on a great opportunity for Jay Gensel. Studio. You got two periods. They are capable of doing it, but this is total reset. Faceoff sponsored by Rooms to Go pinned along the end boards there by Peshu. Still shaking it off here. Churn with a shot saved by Marstrom. [Music] Cooerov with a terrific play there. And Chernack who’s been really aggressive getting up the ice. That’s a big save there cuz Turn nailed that shot. Glenn Denning sends it around. There’s Zack Mchuan. Steers it back towards the line. Dylan with a drive that hits a leg. Surely lost his helmet on the play. Had to head to the bench. And now off the bench come point Gord shot. Scores. Yanni Gar gets the lightning going. It’s 3-1. So he goes for a line change. The top of your screen, you see the helmet. So that means Braden Point, who had just jumped on, had to wait for Sorelli to clear, but New Jersey hadn’t accounted for Braden Point yet. and a couple of quick steps which point is so good at he really makes an impression on Connor Brown who was a guy back trying to get into position. Point makes the play across the Yanni Gore. New Jersey is unraveled somewhat and they finally get on the scoreboard. So maybe this will give him some juice. Lighting will try to return the favor here in this second period. Ziggth Dollar carries it back inside the line. Jack Hughes is checked. Comes back for Hamilton. Nice shot. Redirected flights in front of Basilki. Now the Devils turn the puck over again. He did that. Here’s Mcdana off the boards. Gonzalez was being checked there by Peshi. Now it’s picked up by Geeki. Geeki with a shot saved by Marstrom and it got a whistle. The fewer times you pass actually settles things down and gives more players confident. So if you have any room at all out there to hold on to it. Here’s a chance for Hegel. He’s in. Hits the post. Brandon Hegel had March beat. Now Lillberg steers it into the corner. Good pressure in response after the penalty kill by the Lightning. Hegel feeds it back to the corner for Ginsel. Back up top to Max Croer. Hegel drops it off. Mcdana scores. Ran Mcdana gets the lightning back within one stick. So it was five against four and a half. See there’s Meer. He doesn’t have a stick. The Lightning are smart. They keep working that side. What can a guy do without a stick? Well, all they can do is take up a little bit of space. So they keep it over here. Keep trying. Keep looking for a one-time. And then because Meyer can’t really put any pressure, Mcdana is able to walk into that. But it’s faceoff sponsored by rooms to go. They got a backto back Monday, Tuesday at Boston at Washington. And they do not want to head out on the road down 0 and two to start the season. Flipped into the middle of the ice for Point. point, picks up some pace, skates it in on the right side, sent back to the line where it’s controlled by good, but he’s given it up. Here comes Jesper Brat. Shorthanded Brad in scores. Bad turnover right of the stick of Jesper Brat and he does not miss. By a backhand pass by Cuchov who didn’t look into the middle of the ice. He only saw the man coming at him. Well, Brat was hanging in the weeds in the deep slot. And when the pass was so slow coming across, Radish didn’t realize the problem either. Started to move towards the puck to too late, but he’s standing still. And there’s no way you could turn and go. The pass up ahead to Gourd. Gourd is stood up there by Luke Hughes. And glass takes over from there. Devils quickly moving back up the ice. Here’s Quitsu. He’ll drop it back. There’s a shot. They score again. Another quick one. this one off the stick of Brown who’s got his second goal of the game and it’s a three-goal lead again for the Devils. He was going to make a play into the middle of the ice and then he rips one low inside the far post. That’s really late moving on this one which is unusual for him especially on low shots. Now Mcdana’s going to come across on Connor. Didn’t look like it. Bassie just got fooled on it. He was off balance a little bit. He starts heading again. Gish is off and they don’t get a shot away. Yeah. And you see even the fans are reacting to that in the slot and still one more pass to the outside. New Jerseyy’s wise to that and they’ve broken up so many of those plays. Hands up with Radish. He’ll take a shot and score. [Music] Jiren Radish gets one back. 343 to go. They’re down by two. And this one, I don’t know if I got deflected, but Marstrom, you would think, should have had this one. Oh, he is screened a bit. No doubt about that. I think that’s Cotter coming out towards Radish. See, he’s top of the circle. Oh, even Yeah, his own defenseman moving in front of him. That’s what it was. Nemesis cuz Mark was upset. I I saw him looking at his glove and then looking at his Sherock sends it back in. How aggressive will John Cooper be tonight with a goalender pull. Here’s a shot in front. Gordon is there. Loose buck and a save made by Marstrom on Densel. Points blank. Send a Cro up top. Heman waits. He shots and that is blocked as well. Now it’s Coo. There’s a shot. Bouncing puck. Knocked down. March. Another save. Mad scramblers. Let me keep pushing. Here’s another drive and that’s kicked out. Yeah, that hit Celli in front of the net. That was going to go in otherwise. He hit middle of the blast. Another big shot blocked. Time for one more shot. Maybe point hanging on. Marks him down. They wrap it around. The Devils are going to hang on here. That’s it. A wild final flurry push by the Lightning as they try to get back within one and maybe try to tie this thing, but they are going to fall short. And [Music]

Connor Brown potted two goals while Nico Hischier and Timo Meier each tallied a goal and an assist as the New Jersey Devils earned a 5-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Max Crozier picked up two assists in the loss.

  1. Oh my god the bolts are literally a poverty franchise now 🤣🤣 The panthers broke the leafs, the bruins, the rangers and Tampa lmfao

  2. Remember when Tampa was good and Ottawa and New Jersey were a guaranteed 3 points? Maybe Tampa thinks it's still pre season, they sure haven't shown up for the last 5 periods. And if they get 2 out of 8 points on this up coming road trip they'll be lucky. And after all that nonsense last weekend the Panthers get the last laugh.
