Is currently in the same uniform that the Saints last franchise QB was in prior to joining the Saints… the Chargers! Trey Lance could very well be the next former 1st round QB bust to rise from the ashes just like Sam Darnold and Mayfield!
Lance is still young, and is in a nice situation learning behind Herbert and under HC Jim Harbaugh. I remember seeing the Saints/Chargers preseason game, and thinking “Dang! Trey Lance is better than any QB on the Saints roster!” …and it wasn’t really close.
Kellen Moore appears to be an offensive-minded HC with a knack for developing QBs (he’s made Shattler look like a decent game manager).
Lance is a UFA after this season, and the Saints need to get this done. Lance is better than any QB prospect slated for next years draft (save for maybe a fully healthy Mateer).

I mean Trey Lance does have a nice toolset so if we could bring him in on a cheap contract to compete for the starter position I’d be fine with it but I wouldn’t just hand the keys to him as he hasn’t earned it.

Hell Shough would probably be starting as I thought Shough played the best out of any of those 3 in that preseason game.
Lookie now, shough and Lance are backups, and Rattler is steadily developing.
You have Lance and Rattler in very similar positions when it comes to development. Both developing behind extremely well Offensive minded head coaches. Both QBS have shown they aren’t the best.
Also the biggest one everyone seems to forget with Lance is that he’s made of glass. With the idea that he hasn’t played much football for a first round pick aside, both of his seasons in San Fran ended with him being out for the entire season.
If they aren’t gonna role with Rattler or Shough just draft a QB in the first round and built around developing them instead of the run around late draft picks and former bust candidates
